When not using the transactional CLI mode, do not display a
warning when a YANG-modeled commmand doesn't perform any effective
configuration change.

If we have an interface configured in a daemon on shutdown
store the old ifindex value for retrieval on when it is
possibly recreated.
This is especially important for nexthop groups as that we
had at one point in time the ability to restore the
configuration but it was lost when we started deleting
all deleted interfaces. We need the nexthop group subsystem
to also mark that it has configured an interface.

The nexthop_group_write_nexthop_simple function outputs the
interface name, because we've stored the ifindex. The problem
is that there are ephermeal interfaces in linux that can be
destroyed/recreated. Allow us to keep that data and do something
a bit smarter to allow show run's and other show commands to continue
to work when the interface is deleted.

Wildcards bits have the opposite representation of a network mask,
example:
192.168.0.0/24 has the following netmask 255.255.0.0 and the wildcard
representation is 0.0.255.255.
To avoid future confusion lets put those definitions into a macro so we
know for sure which form to use.

When removing an IPv4 prefix configuration the wrong amount of bytes
will be read from `struct prefix_ipv4` from `DEFPY`, so lets use the
proper function for this.

When configuring a access list rule with type `any` it is now ambiguous
between cisco and zebra because both have the same syntax, so lets
remove the cisco command to avoid that.
YANG users will not notice this change.

`nb_cli_enqueue_change` just points to the string values passed in
parameter, so we must use different strings for different function
calls (at least until `nb_cli_apply_changes`).
While here fix a variable name typo/copy paste error on destination host
case.

When you add a key chain in the RIP configuration file and reload the
configurations via the frr-reload.py script, the script will fail and
the key chain will not appear in the running configuration. The reason
is that frr-reload.py doesn't recognize key as a sub-context.
Before this change, keys were generated this way:

With this change, keys will be generated this way:

This will allow frr-reload.py to see the key sub-context and correctly
reload them.

in ipv6 flowspec, a new type is defined to be able to do filtering rules
based on 20 bits flow label field as depicted in [0]. The change include
the decoding by flowspec, and the addition of a new attribute in policy
routing rule, so that the data is ready to be sent to zebra.
The commit also includes a check on fragment option, since dont fragment
bit does not exist in ipv6, the value should always be set to 0,
otherwise the flowspec rule becomes invalid.

to recognize whether a flowspec prefix has been carried out by
ipv4 flowspec or ipv6 flowspec ( actually, the hypothesis is that only
ipv4 flowspec is supported), then a new attribute should contain the
family value: AF_INET or AF_INET6. That value will be further used in
the BGP flowspec code.

In case of config rollback is enabled,
record northbound transaction based on a control flag.
The actual frr daemons would set the flag to true via
nb_init from frr_init.
This will allow test daemon to bypass recording
transacation to db.

The sorting for zapi nexthops in zapi routes needs to match
the sorting of nexthops done in zebra. Ensure all zapi_nexthop

Sysrepo recently underwent a complete rewrite, where some substantial
architectural changes were made (the most important one being the
extinction of the sysrepod daemon). While most of the existing API
was preserved, quite a few backward-incompatible changes [1] were
introduced (mostly simplifications). This commit adapts our sysrepo
northbound plugin to those API changes in order for it to be compatible
with the latest Sysrepo version.
Additional notes:
* The old Sysrepo version is EOL and not supported anymore.
* The new Sysrepo version requires libyang 1.x.

when receiving a netlink API for an interface in a namespace, this
interface may come with LINK_NSID value, which means that the interface
has its link in an other namespace. Unfortunately, the link_nsid value
is self to that namespace, and there is a need to know what is its
associated nsid value from the default namespace point of view.
The information collected previously on each namespace, can then be
compared with that value to check if the link belongs to the default
namespace or not.

to be able to retrieve the network namespace identifier for each
namespace, the ns id is stored in each ns context. For default
namespace, the netns id is the same as that value.

as remind, the netns identifiers are local to a namespace. that is to
say that for instance, a vrf <vrfx> will have a netns id value in one
netns, and have an other netns id value in one other netns.
There is a need for zebra daemon to collect some cross information, like
the LINK_NETNSID information from interfaces having link layer in an
other network namespace. For that, it is needed to have a global
overview instead of a relative overview per namespace.
The first brick of this change is an API that sticks to netlink API,
that uses NETNSA_TARGET_NSID. from a given vrf vrfX, and a new vrf
created vrfY, the API returns the value of nsID from vrfX, inside the
new vrf vrfY.
The brick also gets the ns id value of default namespace in each other
namespace. An additional value in ns.h is offered, that permits to
retrieve the default namespace context.

With vrf-lite mechanisms, it is possible to create layer 3 vnis by
creating a bridge interface in default vr, by creating a vxlan interface
that is attached to that bridge interface, then by moving the vxlan
interface to the wished vrf.
With vrf-netns mechanism, it is slightly different since bridged
interfaces can not be separated in different network namespaces. To make
it work, the setup consists in :
- creating a vxlan interface on default vrf.
- move the vxlan interface to the wished vrf ( with an other netns)
- create a bridge interface in the wished vrf
- attach the vxlan interface to that bridged interface
from that point, if BGP is enabled to advertise vnis in default vrf,
then vxlan interfaces are discovered appropriately in other vrfs,
provided that the link interface still resides in the vrf where l2vpn is
advertised.
to import ipv4 entries from a separate vrf, into the l2vpn, the
configuration of vni in the dedicated vrf + the advertisement of ipv4
entries in bgp vrf will import the entries in the bgp l2vpn.
the modification consists in parsing the vxlan interfaces in all network
namespaces, where the link resides in the same network namespace as the
bgp core instance where bgp l2vpn is enabled.

While a configuration transaction can't be rejected once it reaches
the APPLY phase, we should allow NB callbacks to generate error
or warning messages when a configuration change is being applied.
That should be useful, for example, to return warnings back to
the user informing that the applied configuration has some kind of
inconsistency or is missing something in order to be effectively
activated. The infrastructure for this was already present, but the
northbound layer was ignoring all errors/warnings generated during
the apply/abort phases instead of returning them to the user. This
commit changes that.
In the gRPC plugin, extend the Commit() RPC adding a new
"error_message" field to the response type. This is necessary to
allow errors/warnings to be returned even when the commit operation
succeeds (since grpc::Status::OK doesn't support error messages
like the other status codes).

We can make the Linux kernel send an ARP/NDP request by adding
a neighbour with the 'NUD_INCOMPLETE' state and the 'NTF_USE' flag.
This commit adds new dataplane operation as well as new zapi message
to allow other daemons send ARP/NDP requests.

There are situations where POLLERR will be returned. But
since we were not handling it. Thread processing effectively
is turned into an infinite loop, which is bad.
Modify the code so that if we receive a POLLERR we turn it
into a read event to be handled as an error from the handler
function.

For the sake of Segment Routing (SR) and Traffic Engineering (TE)
Policies there's a need for additional infrastructure within zebra.
The infrastructure in this PR is supposed to manage such policies
in terms of installing binding SIDs and LSPs. Also it is capable of
managing MPLS labels using the label manager, keeping track of
nexthops (for resolving labels) and notifying interested parties about
changes of a policy/LSP state. Further it enables a route map mechanism
for BGP and SR-TE colors such that learned BGP routes can be mapped
onto SR-TE Policies.
This PR does not introduce any usable features by now, it is just
infrastructure for other upcoming PRs which will introduce 'pathd',
a new SR-TE daemon.

The `struct evpn_ead_addr` structure had a prefix length
associated with it. This value was only ever set never
used. Remove this from our system. The other
nice thing about this change is that it puts back
the sizeof struct route_node to 192 bytes.

This info is then sent to BGP and used for the generation of EAD-per-ES
routes.
2. Access VLANs associated with an (ES) access port are translated into
ES-EVI objects and sent to BGP. This is used by BGP for the
generation of EAD-EVI routes.
3. Remote ESs are imported by BGP and sent to zebra. A list of VTEPs
is maintained per-remote ES in zebra. This list is used for the creation
of the L2-NHG that is used for forwarding traffic.
4. MAC entries with a non-zero ESI destination use the L2-NHG associated
with the ESI for forwarding traffic over the VxLAN overlay.

This is the base patch that brings in support for Type-1 routes.
It includes support for -
- Ethernet Segment (ES) management
- EAD route handling
- MAC-IP (Type-2) routes with a non-zero ESI i.e. Aliasing for
active-active multihoming
- Initial infra for consistency checking. Consistency checking
is a fundamental feature for active-active solutions like MLAG.
We will try to levarage the info in the EAD-ES/EAD-EVI routes to
detect inconsitencies in access config across VTEPs attached to
the same Ethernet Segment.
Functionality Overview -
========================
1. Ethernet segments are created in zebra and associated with
access VLANs. zebra sends that info as ES and ES-EVI objects to BGP.
2. BGP advertises EAD-ES and EAD-EVI routes for the locally attached
ethernet segments.
3. Similarly BGP processes EAD-ES and EAD-EVI routes from peers
and translates them into ES-VTEP objects which are then sent to zebra
as remote ESs.
4. Each ES in zebra is associated with a list of active VTEPs which
is then translated into a L2-NHG (nexthop group). This is the ES
"Alias" entry
5. MAC-IP routes with a non-zero ESI use the alias entry created in
(4.) to forward traffic i.e. a MAC-ECMP is done to these remote-ES
destinations.

In the global evpn routing table RD is part of the key. However in the
per-VNI routing table the key doesn't include the RD and we need more
than the ESI to distinguish between EAD routes from different VTEPs
attached to the same Ethernet Segment.
This commit also includes other definitions needed for managing an
ESI.

In most cases this memory is pre-allocated along with the base element.
Similarly it is stored in the base element to allow efficient del
without lookup (main reason for using DLL vs. SLL).
So (in most cases) there should be no need to manage the element/data
and listnode memories separately.

When using the default CLI mode, the northbound layer needs to create
a separate transaction to process each YANG-modeled command since
they are supposed to be applied immediately (there's no candidate
configuration nor the "commit" command like in the transactional
CLI). The problem is that configuration transactions have an overhead
associated to them, in big part because of the use of some heavy
libyang functions like `lyd_validate()` and `lyd_diff()`. As of
now this overhead is substantial and doesn't scale well when large
numbers of transactions need to be performed in sequence.
As an example, loading 50k prefix-lists using a single transaction
takes about 2 seconds on a modern CPU. Loading the same 50k
prefix-lists using 50k transactions can take more than an hour
to complete (which is unacceptable by any standard). To fix this
problem, some heavy optimization work needs to be done on libyang and
on the FRR northbound itself too (e.g. perform partial configuration
diffs whenever possible). This, however, should be a long term
effort since these optimizations shouldn't be trivial to implement
and we're far from having the performance numbers we need.
In the meanwhile, this commit introduces a simple but efficient
workaround to alleviate the issue. In short, a new back-off timer
was introduced in the CLI to monitor and detect when too many
YANG-modeled commands are being received at the same time. When
a certain threshold is reached (100 YANG-modeled commands within
one second), the northbound starts to group all subsequent commands
into a single large transaction, which allows them to be processed
much faster (e.g. seconds and not hours). It's essentially a
protection mechanism that creates dynamically-sized transactions
when necessary to prevent performance issues from happening. This
mechanism is enabled both when parsing configuration files and when
reading commands from a terminal.
The downside of this optimization is that, if several YANG-modeled
commands are grouped into the same transaction and at least one of
them fails, the whole transaction is rejected. This is undesirable
since users don't expect transactional behavior when that's not
enabled explicitly. To minimize this issue, the CLI will log all
commands that were rejected whenever that happens, to make the
user aware of what happened and have enough information to fix
the problem. Commands that fail due to parsing errors or CLI-level
validations in general are rejected separately.
Again, this proposed workaround is intended to be temporary. The
goal is to provided a quick fix to issues like #6658 while we work
on better long-term solutions.

DEFPY_YANG will allow the CLI to identify which commands are
YANG-modeled or not before executing them. This is going to be
useful for the upcoming configuration back-off timer work that
needs to commit pending configuration changes before executing a
command that isn't YANG-modeled.

vtysh_cmd.c. After the patch, DEFPY commands are correctly indented just

Merge the cisco style access list with zebra's logic so we can mix both
types of rules while keeping the commands.
With this the cisco style limitation of having 'destination-*' only for
specific number ranges no longer exist for users of YANG/northbound (the
CLI still has this limitation).

While iteratively looking for a best match route-map index amongst
a list of potential best match route-map indices, if a candidate
best match index is already found, disregard the value returned by
the function route_map_apply_match() if it returns either RMAP_NOOP
or RMAP_NOMATCH in the following iterations.
This is because if a best match route-map index is found then, the
return value must always be set to RMAP_MATCH.

It is possible that the same VRF exists in one daemon and doesn't exist
in another. In this case, "no vrf NAME" command execution will stop on
the first daemon without the VRF and it won't be possible to delete the
VRF from other daemons.
Such behavior can be reproduced with the following steps:

Route map entries are not getting a chance to call `description` string
deallocation on shutdown or when the parent entry is destroyed, so lets
add a code to handle this in the `route_map_index_delete` function.

rpki vrf subnode is instantiated under the vrf subnode.
It it to be noted that this commit contains a change in vtysh.
Actually, the output of bgp daemon from show running-config is extracted
in vtysh, and reengineered ( hence the vtysh_config.c change done). This
permits having a subnode under vrf sub node.
Also, add vrf node support to bgpd, as rpki command can not be found
under vrf node.

a missing '!' operator was making any STREAM_GETF fail
when in fact it should have succeeded. As a consequence

After the commands started working I noticed that prefix lists were
still not working and displaying incorrect information in
`show ip prefix-list`.
Turns out `any` must be set to `0` when a prefix is set and the prefix
entry **must** be installed in the prefix list head.

Based on the function `prefix_list_entry_add` and
`prefix_list_entry_delete` it was created two functions to replicate
its functionality without the assumption we are always alocating a new
prefix list entry.
Since the prefix list entry is stored in the YANG private data
structures, we want to avoid the allocation/free of memory that is
hold by the schema.
Every time a prefix list entry values change we must call
`prefix_list_entry_update_start` to uninstall the entry from prefix
list internal structures and then call
`prefix_list_entry_update_finish` to put them back.
The variable `installed` in the prefix list entry tracks the
installation status of the internal structure. It is possible that a
user unconfigures or forgets to add a `prefix` value and so we can't
install the entry until then.

Implement the commands `no ... remark LINE` for cisco and zebra style
access lists to match `ipX prefix-list description LINE` command set.
It useful when you just want to go through the command history and
prepend a `no` to a `remark` or `description` command. Example:

Provide a way for the data plane to indicate pseudowire
status (such as: not forwarding, AC failure).
On a data plane pseudowire install failure, data plane
sets the pseudowire status.
Zebra relays the pseudowire status to LDP.
LDP includes the pseudowire status in the LDP notification
to the LDP peer.

Implement the infrastructure for other protocols daemon (e.g. `bgpd`,
`ospfd`, `isisd` etc...) to communicate to BFD daemon which profile
they want to use with their peers.
It was also added the ability for protocols to change profile while
running (no need to remove the registration and then register again).
The protocols message building function was rewritten to support
multiple arguments through `struct bfd_session_arg`, so we can
implement new features without the need of changing function
prototypes. The old function was also rewritten to keep
compatibility.
The profile message part is only available for BFD daemon at the
moment.

Each northbound callback has a set of valid return values, some of
which might depend on the transaction phase. The valid return values
for each callback are documented in the northbound main header.
Add some code to detect when a callback returns an unexpected value
and log the occurrence. This should help us to identify and fix
such problems.

The northbound configuration callbacks should now print error
messages to the provided buffer (args->errmsg) instead of logging
them directly. This will allow the northbound layer to forward the
error messages to the northbound clients in addition to logging them.
NOTE: many callbacks are returning errors without providing any
error message. This needs to be fixed long term.

Instead of returning only error codes (e.g. NB_ERR_VALIDATION)
to the northbound clients, do better than that and also return
a human-readable error message. This should make FRR more
automation-friendly since operators won't need to dig into system
logs to find out what went wrong in the case of an error.

The new northbound context structure contains information about
the client performing a configuration transaction. This information
will be made available to all configuration callbacks through the
args->context parameter.
The usefulness of this structure comes from the fact that it can be
used as a communication channel (both input and output) between the
northbound callbacks and the northbound clients. This can be done
through its "client_data" field which contains client-specific data.
This should cover some very specific scenarios where a northbound
callback should perform an action only if the configuration change
is coming from a given client. An example would be sending a PCEP
response to a PCE when an SR-TE policy is created or modified
through the PCEP northbound client (for that to happen, the
northbound callbacks need to have access to the PCEP request ID,
which needs to be available).

The route-map optimization is not equipped to match IPv6 next-hop
criteria while evaluating IPv4 routes with IPv6 next-hops.
Similary, it is also not equipped to match IPv4 next-hop criteria
while evaluating IPv6 routes with IPv4 next-hops.
This change addresses these issues.

in the CLI we state that the bandwidth of a link is
in Megabits per second, but when converting it to
Bytes per second for TE purposes we were treating
it as Kilobits. Fix the conversion error.

when receiving a netlink API for an interface in a namespace, this
interface may come with LINK_NSID value, which means that the interface
has its link in an other namespace. Unfortunately, the link_nsid value
is self to that namespace, and there is a need to know what is its
associated nsid value from the default namespace point of view.
The information collected previously on each namespace, can then be
compared with that value to check if the link belongs to the default
namespace or not.

as remind, the netns identifiers are local to a namespace. that is to
say that for instance, a vrf <vrfx> will have a netns id value in one
netns, and have an other netns id value in one other netns.
There is a need for zebra daemon to collect some cross information, like
the LINK_NETNSID information from interfaces having link layer in an
other network namespace. For that, it is needed to have a global
overview instead of a relative overview per namespace.
The first brick of this change is an API that sticks to netlink API,
that uses NETNSA_TARGET_NSID. from a given vrf vrfX, and a new vrf
created vrfY, the API returns the value of nsID from vrfX, inside the
new vrf vrfY.
The brick also gets the ns id value of default namespace in each other
namespace. An additional value in ns.h is offered, that permits to
retrieve the default namespace context.

With vrf-lite mechanisms, it is possible to create layer 3 vnis by
creating a bridge interface in default vr, by creating a vxlan interface
that is attached to that bridge interface, then by moving the vxlan
interface to the wished vrf.
With vrf-netns mechanism, it is slightly different since bridged
interfaces can not be separated in different network namespaces. To make
it work, the setup consists in :
- creating a vxlan interface on default vrf.
- move the vxlan interface to the wished vrf ( with an other netns)
- create a bridge interface in the wished vrf
- attach the vxlan interface to that bridged interface
from that point, if BGP is enabled to advertise vnis in default vrf,
then vxlan interfaces are discovered appropriately in other vrfs,
provided that the link interface still resides in the vrf where l2vpn is
advertised.
to import ipv4 entries from a separate vrf, into the l2vpn, the
configuration of vni in the dedicated vrf + the advertisement of ipv4
entries in bgp vrf will import the entries in the bgp l2vpn.
the modification consists in parsing the vxlan interfaces in all network
namespaces, where the link resides in the same network namespace as the
bgp core instance where bgp l2vpn is enabled.

Synchronous GRPC services are called from arbitrary threads. This makes
access to anything outside the GRPC module unsafe. We need to convert
the plugin to use the async model that allows us to control our own
threads.

This is an implementation of the IS-IS SR draft [1] for FRR.
The following features are supported:
* IPv4 and IPv6 Prefix-SIDs;
* IPv4 and IPv6 Adj-SIDs and LAN-Adj-SIDs;
* Index and absolute labels;
* The no-php and explicit-null Prefix-SID flags;
* Full integration with the Label Manager.
Known limitations:
* No support for Anycast-SIDs;
* No support for the SID/Label Binding TLV (required for LDP interop).
* No support for persistent Adj-SIDs;
* No support for multiple SRGBs.

Having a fixed set of parameters for each northbound callback isn't a
good idea since it makes it difficult to add new parameters whenever
that becomes necessary, as several hundreds or thousands of existing
callbacks need to be updated accordingly.
To remediate this issue, this commit changes the signature of all
northbound callbacks to have a single parameter: a pointer to a
'nb_cb_x_args' structure (where x is different for each type
of callback). These structures encapsulate all real parameters
(both input and output) the callbacks need to have access to. And
adding a new parameter to a given callback is as simple as adding
a new field to the corresponding 'nb_cb_x_args' structure, without
needing to update any instance of that callback in any daemon.
This commit includes a .cocci semantic patch that can be used to
update old code to the new format automatically.

Distinguish zapi sessions, for daemons who use more than one,
by adding a session id. The tuple of proto + instance is not
adequate to support clients who use multiple zapi sessions.

This fixes a theoretical bug that could occur when trying to change an
ifindex on an interface to that of an existing interface. We would
remove the interface from the ifindex tree, and change the ifindex, but
when we tried to reinsert the interface, the insert would fail. It was
impossible to know if this failed due to the insertion / deletion macros
capturing the result value of the underlying BSD tree macros. So we
would effectively delete the interface.
Instead of failing on insert, we just check if the prospective ifindex
already exists and return -1 if it does.
Macros have been changed to statement expressions so the result can be
checked, and bubbled up.

In some places we log the interface but not the vfr the
interface is in. In others we only output the vrf id, which
can be difficult for human to read. This commit makes zebra
debugs more vrf aware.

Use more limited matching logic so that nexthops within a
nexthop-group are unique based only on vrf, type, and gateway.
Treat configuration of a nexthop that matches an existing
nexthop as a replace operation.

Old gcc versions (< 5.x) have a bug that prevents C99 flexible
arrays from working properly on shared libraries.
We already have a hack in place to work around this problem, but it
needs to be replicated in every declaration of a frr_yang_module_info
variable within libfrr. This clearly isn't a good solution if we
consider that many more libfrr YANG modules are about to come in
the future.
This commit introduces a different workaround that operates within
the northbound layer itself, such that implementers of libfrr YANG
modules won't need to worry about this problem anymore.

Our two northbound tools don't have embedded YANG modules like the
other FRR binaries. As such, ly_ctx_set_module_imp_clb() shouldn't be
called when the YANG subsystem it being initialized by a northbound
tool. To make that possible, add a new "embedded_modules" parameter
to the yang_init() function to control whether libyang should look
for embedded modules or not.
With this fix, "gen_northbound_callbacks" and "gen_yang_deviations"
won't emit "YANG model X not embedded, trying external file"
warnings anymore.

hook_register() invocations generally are in some initialization
function and not looped over or similar. We can use a static struct
hookent variable for the hook list entry in 99.999% of cases, so let's
do that and not malloc() memory.

In some cases we really don't want to clean up things even when exiting
(i.e. to keep the logging subsystem going.) This adds a flag on MGROUPs
to indicate that.

This is a full rewrite of the "back end" logging code. It now uses a
lock-free list to iterate over logging targets, and the targets
themselves are as lock-free as possible. (syslog() may have a hidden
internal mutex in the C library; the file/fd targets use a single
write() call which should ensure atomicity kernel-side.)
Note that some functionality is lost in this patch:
- Solaris printstack() backtraces are ditched (unlikely to come back)
- the `log-filter` machinery is gone (re-added in followup commit)
- `terminal monitor` is temporarily stubbed out. The old code had a
race condition with VTYs going away. It'll likely come back rewritten
and with vtysh support.
- The `zebra_ext_log` hook is gone. Instead, it's now much easier to
add a "proper" logging target.

When using the GRPC northbound plugin, initialization occurs at the
frr_late_init hook. This is called before fork() when daemonizing (using
-d). Because the GRPC library internally creates threads, this means our
threads go away in the child process, so GRPC doesn't work when used
with -d. Rectify this situation by deferring plugin init to after fork
by scheduling a task on the threadmaster, since those are executed by
the child.

RCA:
when client is killed, show running-config command crashes vtysh.
vtysh_client_config function temporarily makes vty->of which is standard output file
pointer to null inorder to suppress output to user.
This call further tries to communicate with each client and when the client
is terminated, socket call fails and hits the exception path to print the
connection has failed using vty_out.
vty_out crashes because vtysh_client_config has temporarily made vty->of
pointer to NULL to supress o/p to user.
Fix:
vty_out function should check for the sanity of vty->of pointer.
If it doesn't exist, this must have hit exception path, so use the
vty->saved_of if exists.

Zebra is currently sending messages on interface add/delete/update,
VRF add/delete, and interface address change - regardless of whether
its clients had requested them. This is problematic for lde and isis,
which only listens to label chunk messages, and only when it is
waiting for one (synchronous client). The effect is the that messages
accumulate on the lde synchronous message queue.
With this change:
- Zebra does not send unsolicited messages to synchronous clients.
- Synchronous clients send a ZEBRA_HELLO to zebra.
The ZEBRA_HELLO contains a new boolean field: sychronous.
- LDP and PIM have been updated to send a ZEBRA_HELLO for their
synchronous clients.

This patch does two things:
1) Ensure the decoding of stream data between pim <-> zebra is properly
decoded and we don't read beyond the end of the stream.
2) In zebra when we are freeing memory alloced ensure that we
actually have memory to delete before we do so.

vtysh should handle going back up one level to try the command, there is
no need to be able to recurse inside route-map.
This also fixes a problem with northbound hitting the XPath queue limit
of 8 nodes.

A route where ESI, GW IP, MAC and Label are all zero at the same time SHOULD
be treat-as-withdraw.
Invalid MAC addresses are broadcast or multicast MAC addresses. The route
MUST be treat-as-withdraw in case of an invalid MAC address.
As FRR support Ethernet NVO Tunnels only.
Route will be withdrawn when ESI, GW IP and MAC are zero or Invalid MAC
Test cases:
1) ET-5 route with valid RMAC extended community
2) ET-5 route no RMAC extended community
3) ET-5 route with Multicast MAC in RMAC extended community

Based on the route map old CLI, implement the route map handling using
the exported functions.
Use a curry-like programming pattern avoid code repetition when
destroying match/set entries. This is needed by other daemons that
implement custom route map functions and need to pass to lib their
specific destroy functions.

68a02e06e5 broke nexthop encoding
for nexthop tracking.
This code combined the different types of nexthop encoding
being done in the zapi protocol. What was missed that
resolved nexthops of type NEXTHOP_TYPE_IPV4|6 have an ifindex
value that was not being reported. This commit ensures
that we always send this data( even if it is 0).
The following test commit will ensure that this stays working
as is expected by an upper level protocol.

If someone tries to add a nexthop with a list of nexthops
already attached to it, let's just assert. This standardizes
the API to say we assume this is an individual nexthop
you are appending to a group.

Make the nexthop_copy/nexthop_dup APIs more consistent by
adding a secondary, non-recursive, version of them. Before,
it was inconsistent whether the APIs were expected to copy
recursive info or not. Make it clear now that the default is
recursive info is copied unless the _no_recurse() version is
called. These APIs are not heavily used so it is fine to
change them for now.

bgpd already supports BGP Prefix-SID path attribute and
there are some sub-types of Prefix-SID path attribute.
This commits makes bgpd to support additional sub-types.
sub-Type-4 and sub-Type-5 for construct the VPNv4 SRv6 backend
with vpnv4-unicast address family.
This path attributes is already supported by Ciscos IOS-XR and NX-OS.
Prefix-SID sub-Type-4 and sub-Type-5 is defined on following
IETF-drafts.

Add error handling for top level failures (not able to
execute command, unable to find vrf for command, etc.)
With this error handling we add a new zapi message type
of ZEBRA_ERROR used when we are unable to properly handle
a zapi command and pass it down into the lower level code.
In the event of this, we reply with a message of type
enum zebra_error_types containing the error type.
The sent packet will look like so:

Default all nexthop weights to one. The linux kernel does
some weird stuff where it adds one to all nexthop weight values
it gets. So, we added df7fb5800b with
some special subtracing/adding to account for this. Though, that patch
did not account for the default case of the weight being zero for
elements in the group.
Hence, this patch defaults the nexthop weight to one during creation.
This should be a valid value on all platforms anyway so shouldn't
affect anything.

Sometimes the easiest solution is hardest to find... the whole point of
all this "static const", aliasing, & co. was to make "MTYPE_FOO" usable
without adding the extra & as in "&MTYPE_FOO". Making it a size-1 array
does that perfectly through the magic of ISO C array decay...

libc-ares doesn't do IP literals, so we have to do that before running
off to do DNS. Since this isn't BMP specific, move to lib/ so NHRP can
benefit too.

Add an api that creates a copy of a list of nexthops and
enforces the canonical sort ordering; consolidate some nhg
code to avoid copy-and-paste. The zebra dplane uses
that api when a plugin sets up a list of nexthops, ensuring
that the plugin's list is ordered when it's processed in
zebra.

Linux has the idea of allowing a weight to be sent
down as part of a nexthop group to allow the kernel
to weight particular nexthop paths a bit more or less
than others.

Allow for installation into the kernel using the weight attribute
associated with the nexthop.
This code is foundational in that it just sets up the ability

Replace the existing list of nexthops (via a nexthop_group
struct) in the route_entry with a direct pointer to zebra's
new shared group (from zebra_nhg.h). This allows more
direct access to that shared group and the info it carries.

validation is done only to create default child nodes (due to
how libyang works) and any possible error is ignored (candidate
configurations can be invalid/incomplete).
The problem is that we were calling lyd_validate() only when the
CLI "with-defaults" option was used. But some cli_show() callbacks
assume that default nodes exist and can crash when displaying a
candidate configuration that isn't validated. To fix this, call
lyd_validate() before displaying candidate configuration even when
"with-defaults" is not used (that was a micro-optimization that
shouldn't have been done).

The previous workaround only works for -O0, at higher optimization
levels gcc reorders the statements in the file global scope which breaks
the asm statement :(.

gcc 4.x does not properly support structs with variable length array
members. Specifically, for global variables, it completely ignores the
array, coming up with a size much smaller than what is correct. This is
broken for both sizeof() as well as ELF object size.
This breaks for frr_interface_info since this variable is in some cases
copy relocated by the linker. (The linker does this to make the address
of the variable a "constant" for the main program.) This copying uses
the ELF object size, thereby copying only the non-array part of the
struct.
Breakage ensues...
(This fix is a bit ugly, but it's limited to very old gcc, and it's
better than changing the array to "nodes[1000]" and wasting memory...)

By default announct Self Type-2 routes with
system IP as nexthop and system MAC as
nexthop.
An API to check type-2 is self route via
checking ipv4/ipv6 address from connected interfaces list.
An API to extract RMAC and nexthop for type-2
routes based on advertise-svi-ip knob is enabled.
When advertise-pip is enabled/disabled, trigger type-2
route update. For self type-2 routes to use
anycast or individual (rmac, nexthop) addresses.

when ever a FRR Client wants to send any data to another node
using MLAG Channel, uses below mechanisam.
1. sends a MLAG Registration to zebra with interested messages that
it is intended to receive from peer.
2. In response to this request, Zebra opens communication channel with
MLAG. and also in Rx. diretion zebra forwards only those messages which
client shown interest during registration
3. when client is no-longer interested in communicating with MLAG, client
posts De-register to Zebra
4. if this is the last client which is interested for MLAG Communication,
zebra closes the channel.
why PIM Needs MLAG Communication

1. In general on LAN Networks elecetd DR will send the Join towards
Multicast RP in case of a LHR and Register in case of FHR.
2. But in case DR Goes down, traffic will be re-converged only after
the New DR is elected, but this can take time based on Hold Timer to

Scenarios where this code change is required:
1. BFD is un-configured from BGP at remote end.
Neighbour BFD sends ADMIN_DOWN state, but BFD on local side will send
DOWN to BGP, resulting in BGP session DOWN.
Removing BFD session administratively shouldn't bring DOWN BGP session
at local or remote.
2. BFD is un-configured from BGP or shutdown locally.
BFD will send state DOWN to BGP resulting in BGP session DOWN.
(This is akin to saying do not use BFD for BGP)

Add a nexthop hashing api for only hashing on word-sized
attributes. Calling the jhash/jhash2 function is quite slow
in scaled envrionments but sometimes you do need a more granular hash.
The tradeoff here is that hashtable buckets using this hash
might be more full.

We will use a nhe context for dataplane interaction with
nextho group hash entries.
New nhe's from the kernel will be put into a group array
if they are a group and queued on the rib metaq to be processed
later.
New nhe's sent to the kernel will be set on the dataplane context
with approprate ID's in the group array if needed.

getrusage, in a heavily stressed system, can account for
signficant running time due to process switching to the kernel.
Allow the end-operator to specify `--disable-cpu-time` to
avoid this call. Additionally we cause `show thread cpu` to
not show up if this is selected.

Currently libyang logs errors only (LY_LLERR by default), independent of
FRR's log level. This commit lets libyang log everything including all
sorts of debug logs (when libyang is built in 'Debug' mode). FRR's
logging infrastructure filters logs out according to the configured log
level.
There is a very small performance overhead involved, even when libyang
is build in 'Release' mode. This overhead is mainly affecting config
processing and barely measurable being around 0-3% of the processing
time without this change.

With commit: a9ff90c41b
the vrf_id_t was changed from a uint16_t to a uint32_t
Zebra tracked the last command sent to it's peer via peeking
into the data it was sending to each client ( since we had
lost the idea of what the command was when it was time to track
the data ).
Add a define to track this and add a bit of verbiage
to the code to allow us to notice when we screw with
the header again so that this is just fixed correctly
when it happens again.

When POLLNVAL is received for a FD then that FD is removed from the
pfd array and also array is rearranged using memmove. When memmove
is used then unused index are not cleanedup. When a new FD takes
up that index then it ends up using stale events without any handler
set for the same.

The dnode member of the nb_config structure can be null on
daemons that don't implement any YANG module. As such, update
the nb_cli_show_config_prepare() function to always check if the
libyang data node that is going to be displayed is null or not
before operating on it.
This fixes the following warning (introduced by commit 5e6a9350c1):

This change fixes a static analyzer warning and should also make us
safer when using this function. At the moment the code that triggered
the warning is the only one that uses this function.
Passing anything other than `struct prefix` to `str2prefix` function is
dangerous, because the structure might be smaller than expected and we
might have an buffer overflow.

Remove the xpath field from the nb_config_cb structure in order
to reduce its size. This allows the northbound to spend less time
allocating memory during the processing of large configuration
transactions.
To make this work, use yang_dnode_get_path() to obtain the xpath
from the dnode field whenever necessary.

Load the startup configuration directly into the CLI shared candidate
configuration instead of loading it into a private candidate
configuration. This way we don't need to initialize the shared
candidate separately later as a copy of the running configuration,
which is a potentially expensive operation.
Also, make the northbound process SIGHUP correctly even when --tcli
is not used.

nb_candidate_edit() was calling both the lyd_schema_sort() and
lyd_validate() functions whenever a new node was added to the
candidate configuration. This was done to ensure the candidate
is always ready to be displayed correctly (libyang only creates
default child nodes during the validation process, and data nodes
aren't guaranteed to be ordered by default).
The problem is that the two aforementioned functions are too
expensive to be called in the northbound hot path. Instead, it makes
more sense to call them only before displaying the configuration
(in which case a recursive sort needs to be done). Introduce the
nb_cli_show_config_prepare() to achieve that purpose.

The nb_cli_apply_changes() function was creating a full copy of
the candidate configuration before editing it. This excerpt from
the northbond documentation explains why this was being done:
"NOTE: the nb_cli_cfg_change() function clones the candidate
configuration before actually editing it. This way, if any error
happens during the editing, the original candidate is restored to
avoid inconsistencies. Either all changes from the configuration
command are performed successfully or none are. It's like a
mini-transaction but happening on the candidate configuration
(thus the northbound callbacks are not involved)".
The problem is that this kind of error handling is just too
expensive. A command should never fail to edit the candidate
configuration unless there's a bug in the code (e.g. when the
CLI wrapper command passes an integer value that YANG rejects due
to a "range" statement). In such cases, a command might fail to
be applied or applied only partially if it edits multiple YANG
nodes. When that happens, just log an error to make the operator
aware of the problem, but otherwise ignore it instead of rejecting
the command and restoring the candidate to its previous state. We
shouldn't add an extreme overhead to the northbound CLI client only
to handle errors that should never happen in practice.

This is the result of this code pattern in rfapi/rfapi_import.c:
prefix_cmp((struct prefix *)&bpi_result->extra->vnc.import.rd,
(struct prefix *)prd))
Effectively prd or vnc.import.rd are `struct prefix_rd` which
are being typecast to a `struct prefix`. Not a big deal except commit
1315d74de9 modified the prefix_cmp
function to allow for a sorted prefix_cmp. In prefix_cmp
we were looking at the offset and shift. In the case
of vnc we were passing a prefix length of 64 which is the exact length of
the remaining data structure for struct prefix_rd. So we calculated
a offset of 8 and a shift of 0. The data structures for the prefix
portion happened to be equal to 64 bits of data. So we checked that
with the memcmp got a 0 and promptly read off the end of the data
structure for the numcmp. The fix is if shift is 0 that means thei
the memcmp has checked everything and there is nothing to do.
Please note: We will still crash if we set the prefixlen > then
~312 bits currently( ie if the prefixlen specifies a bit length
longer than the prefix length ). I do not think there is
anything to do here( nor am I sure how to correct this either )
as that we are going to have some severe problems when we muck
up the prefixlen.

If the name has not been set yet (we were only passed the
ifindex in some cases like with master/slave timings) then
do not add/del it from the ifname rb tree on the vrf struct.
Doing so causes duplicate entries on the tree and infinte loops
can happen when iterating over it.

We were using the incorrect comparison function for the
ifindex-based rb tree. Luckily, we were using the correct one
in RB_GENERATE so I guess that overwrote what was declared in the
prototype?

inet_pton() is used to parse ipv4 addresses internally, therefore FRR
does not support octal notation for quads. The ipv4 cli token validator
should make sure that str2prefix() can parse tokens it allows, and
str2prefix uses inet_pton, so we have to disallow leading zeros in ipv4
quads.
In short, 1.1.1.01 is no longer valid and must be expressed as 1.1.1.1.

The asm-code was interpreted inconsistently for different platforms.
In particular for AArch64 this caused UB, if multiple static MTYPEs
where defined in one file. All static MTYPE_* could point to the same
memory location (namely the first defined MTYPE) OR to their respective
(correct) locations depending on the context of their usage.

Current autocompletion works only for simple "vrf NAME" case.
This commit expands it also for the following cases:
- "nexthop-vrf NAME" in staticd
- usage of $varname in many daemons
All daemons are updated to use single varname "$vrf_name".

Start the conversion to allow zapi interface callbacks to be
controlled like vrf creation/destruction/change callbacks.
This will allow us to consolidate control into the interface.c
instead of having each daemon read the stream and react accordingly.
This will hopefully reduce a bunch of cut-n-paste stuff

lib/if.c
create -> A upper level protocol receives an interface creation event
The ifp is brand spanking newly created in the system.
up -> A upper level protocol receives a interface up event
This means the interface is up and ready to go.
down -> A upper level protocol receives a interface down
destroy -> A upper level protocol receives a destroy event
This means to delete the pointers associated with it.
At this point this is just boilerplate setup for future commits.
There is no new functionality.

When zebra gets a callback from the kernel that an interface has
actually been deleted *and* the end users has not configured
the interface, then allow for deletion of the interface from zebra.
This is especially important in a docker environment where containers
and their veth interfaces are treated as ephermeal. FRR can quickly
have an inordinate amount of interfaces sitting around that are
not in the kernel and we have no way to clean them up either.
My expectation is that this will cause a second order crashes
in upper level protocols, but I am not sure how to catch these
and fix them now ( suggestions welcome ). There are too many
use patterns and order based events that I cannot know for certain
that we are going to see any at all, until someone sees this problem
as a crash :( I do not recommend that this be put in the current
stabilization branch and allow this to soak in master for some time
first.

During initialization, the northbound detects if any required
callback is missing (fatal error) or if any unneeded callback is
present (warning).
There are three callbacks, however, that should require special
handling: get_next(), get_keys() and lookup_entry().
These callbacks are normally unneeded for configuration lists. But,
if a configuration list is augmented with new state nodes by another
module, then the three callbacks mentioned above become required. In
this case, never log a warning when these callbacks are implemented
when they are not needed, since this depends on context (e.g. some
daemons might augment "frr-interface" while others don't).

When a configuration transaction is being performed, the northbound
uses a red-black tree to store the configuration changes that need to
be processed. The problem is that we were sorting the configuration
changes based on their XPaths (and callback priorities). This means
the original order of the changes wasn't being respected, which is
a problem for lists that use the "ordered-by user" statement. To
fix this, add a new "seq" member to the "nb_config_cb" structure
so that we can preserve the order of the configuration changes as
told by libyang.
Since none of the FRR modules use "ordered-by user" lists so far,
no daemon was affected by this problem.

Adding a lock to protect the global running configuration doesn't
help much since the FRR daemons are not prepared to process
configuration changes in a pthread that is not the main one (a
whole lot of new protections would be necessary to prevent race
conditions).
This means the lock added by commit 83981138 only adds more
complexity for no benefit. Remove it now to simplify the code.
All northbound clients, including the gRPC one, should either run
in the main pthread or use synchronization primitives to process
configuration transactions in the main pthread.
This reverts commit 83981138fe.
This callback can be used to validate subsections of the
configuration being committed before validating the configuration
changes themselves. It's useful to perform more complex validations
that depend on the relationship between multiple nodes.
Only YANG-level validation (performed by libyang) and the
NB_EV_VALIDATE validation (that can be used to validate individual
configuration changes) proved to be insufficient in some cases.

when ever a FRR Client wants to send any data to another node
using MLAG Channel, uses below mechanisam.
1. sends a MLAG Registration to zebra with interested messages that
it is intended to receive from peer.
2. In response to this request, Zebra opens communication channel with
MLAG. and also in Rx. diretion zebra forwards only those messages which
client shown interest during registration
3. when client is no-longer interested in communicating with MLAG, client
posts De-register to Zebra
4. if this is the last client which is interested for MLAG Communication,
zebra closes the channel.
why PIM Needs MLAG Communication
================================
1. In general on LAN Networks elecetd DR will send the Join towards
Multicast RP in case of a LHR and Register in case of FHR.
2. But in case DR Goes down, traffic will be re-converged only after
the New DR is elected, but this can take time based on Hold Timer to
detect the DR down.
3. this can be optimised by using MLAG Mecganisam.
4. and also Traffic can be forwarded more efficiently by knowing the cost
towards RP using MLAG

User pass the string match large-community 1 exact-match from CLI.
Now route map lib has got the string as "1 exact-match". It passes the string
to call back for compilation. BGP will parse this string and came to know
that for "1" it has to do exact match. Routemap lib has to save "1" in it’s
dependency table. Here routemap is saving this as a “1 exact-match”
which is wrong. The solution is used the compiled data.

Use the route type and instance instead of the route distance
to identify MPLS FTNs. This is a more robust approach since the
routing daemons can modify the distance of their announced routes
via configuration, which can cause inconsistencies.

Commit eaf6705d7a fixed a problem caused by configuration changes
coming from the kernel. The fix consisted of regenerating the
candidate configuration before every configuration command (when
using the non-transactional CLI mode). There's no need, however,
to regenerate the candidate when it's identical to the running
configuration. Since the northbound keeps track of the version
of each configuration, we can use that information to prevent
regenerating the candidate configuration when that is not necessary.

frr_with_mutex(...) { ... } locks and automatically unlocks the listed
mutex(es) when the block is exited. This adds a bit of safety against
forgetting the unlock in error paths & co. and makes the code a slight
bit more readable.

filled on demand by a callback with some reasonable buffering logic.

If we look at the defintion of the two static memory types:

to 1 in the file and the crash stopped happening.
I suspect we have a systematic error on arm in lib/memory.h
due to the asm code. I am going to leave that alone for the
moment ( and leave the crash issue open ), but see if we
can get this code change into the system so that our CI
system becomes happy again.

The FRR community has run into an issue where keeping up our
CI system to work with solaris has become a fairly large burden.
We have also sent emails and asked around and have not found
anyone standing up saying that they are using Solaris.
Given the fact that we do not have any comprehensive testing
being done w/ solaris and the fact that we are getting a steady
stream of new features that will never work on solaris and
we cannot find anyone to say that they are using it. Let's
start the drawn out process of deprecating the code.
If in the mean-time someone comes forward with the fact that
they are using it we can then not deprecate it.

FRR has two implementations of VRF, one backed by netns and the other by
the proper VRF implementation in the Linux kernel. In certain places, the
code assumes that a VRF is netns and so lookups fail. One example of this
is in IPv6 RA code. This causes functionality such as Unnumbered BGP to
fail. To fix this, this patch makes if_lookup_by_index handle the
behavior based on the backend, similar to if_get_by_index. For the two
places in if.c that were calling if_lookup_by_index to be specific to
the VRF, I renamed the existing code, if_lookup_by_ifindex and made it a
static function that is never exposed or called by any routine outside of
if.c.

Problem reported that "clear bgp *" only cleared ipv6 peers.
Changed the logic to clear all afi/safis of all peers in
that case. Also improved the operation of clearing
individual afi/safi using soft/in/out to do the right thing.

Sort nexthops before we push them to zebra. This offloads
the nexthop sorting zebra is doing onto the upper level protocols
so that when it gets to zebra and we construct a group, it just has
to append them to the tail for every nexthop.

This commit fixes all of them except the bgp `recieved` issue due to

The `destination` field of the connection structure was used to store
the broadcast address, if the connection was not p2p. This multipurpose
is not very evident and the benefits over calculating the bcast address
on the fly minimal.

In if_netlink.c, when an interface structure, ifp, is first created,
its possible for the master to come up after the slave interface does.
This means, the slave interface has no way to display the master's ifname
in show outputs. To fix this, we need to allow creation by ifindex instead
of by ifname so that this issue is handled.

The correct cast for these is (unsigned char), because "char" could be
signed and thus have some negative value. isalpha & co. expect an int
arg that is positive, i.e. 0-255. So we need to cast to (unsigned char)
when calling any of these.

The function ipv4_broadcast_addr() does not calculate correct broadcast
addresses for point-to-point connections with prefix 31. RFC3021
section 3.3 [1] specifies:
"The 255.255.255.255 IP broadcast address MUST be used for broadcast
Address Mask Replies in point-to-point links with 31-bit subnet masks"
The issue causes Zebra to print the following warning when IPv4 address
with 31 prefix (e.g. 192.168.222.240/31) is configured on a network
interface:
ZEBRA: [EC 4043309141] warning: interface VNS broadcast addr 255.255.255.255/31 != calculated 192.168.222.241, routing protocols may malfunction
The issue has been originally found in Quagga [2], but it is present also
in FRR.

The new list api did not implement the `*_del` endpoint as
it was described in the docs here:

This patch implements the endpoints to return the object deleted if
found, otherwise NULL for all but the atomic lists.
The atomic list `*_del` code is marked as TODO and will remain undefined
for now.

seqlock_timedwait() puts an (absolute, CLOCK_MONOTONIC) deadline on how

Introducing a 3rd state for route_map_apply library function: RMAP_NOOP
Traditionally route map MATCH rule apis were designed to return
a binary response, consisting of either RMAP_MATCH or RMAP_NOMATCH.
(Route-map SET rule apis return RMAP_OKAY or RMAP_ERROR).
Depending on this response, the following statemachine decided the
course of action:
State1:
If match cmd returns RMAP_MATCH then, keep existing behaviour.
If routemap type is PERMIT, execute set cmds or call cmds if applicable,
otherwise PERMIT!
Else If routemap type is DENY, we DENYMATCH right away
State2:
If match cmd returns RMAP_NOMATCH, continue on to next route-map. If there
are no other rules or if all the rules return RMAP_NOMATCH, return DENYMATCH
We require a 3rd state because of the following situation:
The issue - what if, the rule api needs to abort or ignore a rule?:
"match evpn vni xx" route-map filter can be applied to incoming routes
regardless of whether the tunnel type is vxlan or mpls.
This rule should be N/A for mpls based evpn route, but applicable to only
vxlan based evpn route.
Also, this rule should be applicable for routes with VNI label only, and
not for routes without labels. For example, type 3 and type 4 EVPN routes
do not have labels, so, this match cmd should let them through.
Today, the filter produces either a match or nomatch response regardless of
whether it is mpls/vxlan, resulting in either permitting or denying the
route.. So an mpls evpn route may get filtered out incorrectly.
Eg: "route-map RM1 permit 10 ; match evpn vni 20" or
"route-map RM2 deny 20 ; match vni 20"
With the introduction of the 3rd state, we can abort this rule check safely.
How? The rules api can now return RMAP_NOOP to indicate
that it encountered an invalid check, and needs to abort just that rule,
but continue with other rules.
As a result we have a 3rd state:
State3:
If match cmd returned RMAP_NOOP
Then, proceed to other route-map, otherwise if there are no more
rules or if all the rules return RMAP_NOOP, then, return RMAP_PERMITMATCH.

when requesting a specific label chunk (e.g. for the SRGB),
it might happen that we cannot get what we want. In this
event, we must be prepared to receive a response with no
label chunk. Without this fix, if the remote label manager
was not able to alloate the chunk we requested, we would
hang indefinitely trying to read data from the stream which
was not there.

For SRGB, we need to support chunk requests starting at a
specific point in the label space, rather than just asking
for any sufficiently large chunk. To this purpose, we extend
the label manager api to request a chunk with a base value;
if the base is set to 0, the label manager will behave as it
currently does, i.e. fetching the first free chunk big enough
to satisfy the request.
update all the existing calls to get chunks from the label
manager so that they use MPLS_LABEL_BASE_ANY as the base
for the requested chunk

zvni setup in zebra is controlled via bgpd i.e. advertise_all_vni
from bgpd triggers this setup. As a part of zvni creation we may need
to setup BUM mcast SG entries which are propagated to pimd for MDT setup.
Now pimd may not be present at the time of zvni creation or may restart
post zvni creation so we need a mechanism to replay (on pimd startup) and
to cleanup (on pimd stop). This is addressed via zebra_vxlan_sg_replay and
zebra_evpn_pim_cfg_clean_up.

When using the LYD_PATH_OPT_NOPARENTRET flag, lyd_new_path() returns
the path-referenced node instead of the first created node. This
flag wasn't available in libyang 0.16-r1 so we couldn't use it
before. Use it now to simplify the code where possible.

libyang-0.16-r3 contains a commit[1] that changed the autodelete
behavior of subtrees when validating data. A few FRR commands were
affected by this change since they relied on the old autodelete
behavior.
To fix these commands, use the LYD_OPT_WHENAUTODEL flag when
validating data to restore the old autodelete behavior (which adds
a lot of convenience for us).

Add a file that exposes functions which modify nexthop groups.
Nexthop groups are techincally immutable but there are a
few special cases where we need direct access to add/remove
nexthops after the group has been made. This file provides a
way to expose those functions in a way that makes it clear
this is a private/hidden api.

Some more complex CLI usages will require northbound to support
signalizing a custom configuration node end.

This commit implements a new callback called `cli_show_end` which
complements `cli_show` and is only called at the end of processing the
yang configuration node. It will be used to write the configuration

When a prefix-list is applied to a BGP neighbor to deny the learning
of specific routes, the hit count is showing 0 for BGP even though
the routes are being filtered correctly due
to the configured prefix-list.
Before fix:

Adding a read with the address of the thread pointer we want to
use will allow lib/thread.c to properly handle your thread pointers.
Instead we were setting the pointer to NULL before we passed
into the _read and _write thread functions. Remove the NULL
pointer set and just let thread.c handle everything.
vty_stdio_resume and vty_read would blindly add read and write
which would cause vty_event() to drop the thread pointer.

As logging functions are called, if filters are stored,
look for the filter substring in the logs. If it is not
found, do not output the log to a file or stdout.

If we have a case where have created a fd for i/o and we have
removed the handling thread but still have the fd in the poll
data structure, there existed a case where we would get
the handle this fd return from poll but we would immediately
do nothing with it because we didn't have a thread to hand
the event to.
This leads to an infinite loop. Prevent the infinite loop
from happening and log the problem.
We still need to find the cause of this happening. But
let's prevent the system from melting down in the mean time.

clippy can't process #ifdef or similar bits inside of an argument list
(e.g. within the braces of a DEFUN or DEFPY statement.) Improve error
reporting to catch these cases instead of generating broken C code.

Even when using the classic CLI mode (i.e. when --tcli is not
used), the northbound code still uses vty->candidate_config
to perform configuration changes. From the perspective of the
user, the running configuration is being edited directly, but
under the hood the northbound layer does a full configuration
transaction for each command. When the running configuration is
edited by a northbound client other than the CLI (e.g. kernel,
gRPC), vty->candidate_config might become outdated, and this can
lead to lots of weird problems. To fix this, always regenerate
vty->candidate_config before each configuration command when
using the classic CLI mode. When using the transactional CLI,
the user needs to update the candidate manually using the "update"
command, otherwise the "commit" command will fail with this error:
"% Candidate configuration needs to be updated before commit".
Fixes some problems reported by Don after moving an interface from
one VRF to another one while zebra is running.

Field vrf_id is replaced by the pointer of the struct vrf *.
For that all other code referencing to (interface)->vrf_id is replaced.
This work should not change the behaviour.
It is just a continuation work toward having an interface API handling
vrf pointer only.
some new generic functions are created in vrf:
vrf_to_id, vrf_to_name,
a zebra function is also created:
zvrf_info_lookup
an ospf function is also created:
ospf_lookup_by_vrf
it is to be noted that now that interface has a vrf pointer, some more
optimisations could be thought through all the rest of the code. as
example, many structure store the vrf_id. those structures could get
the exact vrf structure if inherited from an interface vrf context.

there may be cases where the vrf is yet allocated from the vty, and the
discovery process did not make the relationship between the vrf_id and
the name of the vrf. For instance, by parsing an interface belonging to
vrf-id X, it is not sure that vrf-id X and vrfname XX are talking about
the same vrf. For that, lets allocate the vrf, and lets try to detect
there is a duplicate case in vrf, so that the merge can be done without
any impact for the user.

the interface search is based on vrfs. As at startup, some interfaces
may be configured, there is need to have vrfs contexts present. A macro
is being appended with an extra parameter that permits create a vrf and
return the context. This macro is also used by some show routines, but
will not create vrfs, because that extra parameter will be set to false,
on that case.

Upon accessing interface NB API, the interface is created, if the vrf
is available. the commit does not change the behaviour, since at this
commit, this is not yet possible to have vrf contexts, while zebra did
not connect to daemons. However, that commit adds some work, so that it
will be possible to work on a vrf context, without having the vrf_id
completely resolved. for instance, if we suppose a vrf is created by
command 'vrf TOTO' in the starting configuration of a daemon, then 'interface
TITI vrf TOTO' will permit to create interface TITI within vrf TOTO.
the macro VRF_GET_INSTANCE will return the vrf context, if available or
not.

path. If using -N add the namespace name to the path to

[u]int64_t is the only type in the intX_t family that needs
special-casing for printf since the calling convention may differ
between 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
Adding the L specifier allows us to eschew the gnarly-looking PRIu64.

The iana_afi_t and iana_safi_t were being created in zebra.h
and zebra.h is a bit of a dumping ground. When the iana_afi2str and
iana_safi2str functions were created, it was correctly pointed out
that we should just use the internal afi_t and safi_t 2str functions
but to do that we would need to include prefix.h in zebra.h. Which
really is not the right thing to do. This tells us that we need
to break out this code into it's own header.
Move to iana_afi.h the enums and specific functions and remove
from zebra. Convert to using the afi2str and safi2str functions.

Although the RFC states hostname length should be < 255 chars,
FRR allows infinite length technically. However, when you try
to set a hostname > 80 chars, you would immediately notice a crash.
RCA: Crash due to buffer overflow. Large buffer sprintf'd into smaller
buffer. Usage of sprintf function instead of snprintf which is safer.

Say, more than one sequence of a route-map uses the same named entity
in its match clause. After that entity is removed from any one of the
route-map sequences, any further changes made to that entity doesn't
dynamically take effect.
A reference counter, that allows the named entity to keep a count of
the route-maps dependent on it, has been introduced to address this issue.

When you have compiled FRR with a large multipath number
then encoding large ecmp routes between zebra and the
routing daemons. There exists a theoritical size
of multipath that will cause the encoding to be larger
than the ZEBRA_MAX_PACKET_SIZ. In the cases where
we have allocated streams that will encode routes
then let's ensure that whatever size we have will
auto-fit what we say we can send.

Add 'no log commands' cli and at the same time add a
--command-log-always to the daemon startup cli.
If --command-log-always is specified then all commands are
auto-logged and the 'no log commands' form of the command
is now ignored.

Introducing a 3rd state for route_map_apply library function: RMAP_NOOP
Traditionally route map MATCH rule apis were designed to return
a binary response, consisting of either RMAP_MATCH or RMAP_NOMATCH.
(Route-map SET rule apis return RMAP_OKAY or RMAP_ERROR).
Depending on this response, the following statemachine decided the
course of action:
Action: Apply route-map match and return the result (RMAP_MATCH/RMAP_NOMATCH)
State1: Receveived RMAP_MATCH
THEN: If Routemap type is PERMIT, execute other rules if applicable,
otherwise we PERMIT!
Else: If Routemap type is DENY, we DENYMATCH right away
State2: Received RMAP_NOMATCH, continue on to next route-map, otherwise,
return DENYMATCH by default if nothing matched.
With reference to PR 4078 (https://github.com/FRRouting/frr/pull/4078),
we require a 3rd state because of the following situation:
The issue - what if, the rule api needs to abort or ignore a rule?:
"match evpn vni xx" route-map filter can be applied to incoming routes
regardless of whether the tunnel type is vxlan or mpls.
This rule should be N/A for mpls based evpn route, but applicable to only
vxlan based evpn route.
Today, the filter produces either a match or nomatch response regardless of
whether it is mpls/vxlan, resulting in either permitting or denying the
route.. So an mpls evpn route may get filtered out incorrectly.
Eg: "route-map RM1 permit 10 ; match evpn vni 20" or
"route-map RM2 deny 20 ; match vni 20"
With the introduction of the 3rd state, we can abort this rule check safely.
How? The rules api can now return RMAP_NOOP (or another enum) to indicate
that it encountered an invalid check, and needs to abort just that rule,
but continue with other rules.
Question: Do we repurpose an existing enum RMAP_OKAY or RMAP_ERROR
as the 3rd state (or create a new enum like RMAP_NOOP)?
RMAP_OKAY and RMAP_ERROR are used to return the result of set cmd.
We chose to go with RMAP_NOOP (but open to ideas),
as a way to bypass the rmap filter
As a result we have a 3rd state:
State3: Received RMAP_NOOP
Then, proceed to other route-map, otherwise return RMAP_PERMITMATCH by default.

The SO_MARK socket option was being used pre vrf to allow for the
separation of the front panel -vs- the management port. This
was facilitated by a ip rule. Since this is undocumented anywhere
in our system( other than old commits see
ed40466af8 ). We should remove this
because this will cause interference with people using rules
and are not aware of this offshoot of functionality.

Upon startup FRR reads in the MAX_FDS variable from
it's control files via the getrlimit call. We then
setup code to limit the poll data structure size to
that value. The OS also limits our FD's to that value
because that is what is set. Provide a methodology
that a interested end user can figure this data out.

The 'show thread cpu' command referenced a 'b' option. Which
is not parsed at all in the parse_filter function. As such
I do not know what this was referencing as that it has been
removed. Update the help strings to reflect this reality.

Allow label ignoring when comparing nexthops. Specifically,
add another functon nexthop_same_no_labels() that shares
a path with nexthop_same() but doesn't check labels.
rib_delete() needs to ignore labels in this case.

Passing the struct route_table *ptr as const doesn't really help; if
anything it semantically would imply that the returned route_node is
const too since constness should propagate (but it doesn't in C.)
The right thing to do here - which actually helps the compiler optimize
the code too - is to tag functions with __attribute__((pure)). The
compiler does this automatically if it has the function body (and the
body of all called functions) available. That should cover most "static
inline" functions in headers, as well as functions in the same file.
However, this doesn't work (at least without LTO) for extern functions.
Hence, add "ext_pure" for this case. (Built-in "extern" to make lines
shorter.)

This is an 8-ary heap (cacheline optimized.) It works as a semi-sorted
kind of middle ground between unsorted and sorted datastructures; pop()
always returns the lowest item but ordering is only loosely enforced.

The skiplist code was previously falling back to the del() code path for
a pop() on a skiplist. This is unneeded complexity, a pop() can be done
more efficiently.

1. listnode_add_sort_nodup - This API adds to list only if no duplicate
element available in the list. returns true/false
2. list_filter_out_nodes - This API deletes the nodes which satisfy the given
condition. condition is passed as a func ptr in
API. This function takes in node data(void ptr).

It doesn't make much sense for a hash function to modify its argument,
so const the hash input.
BGP does it in a couple places, those cast away the const. Not great but
not any worse than it was.

new vty command is added:
neighbor XXX bfd check-control-plane-failure
this command will enforce the check of bgp controlplane, when bfd
detects changes in the dataplane.
- at configuration, the cbit will be set if that command is executed
- at flapping time, if the command is configured and remote cbit is set
accordingly, then the bfd event will be ignored.

bfd cbit is a value carried out in bfd messages, that permit to keep or
not, the independence between control plane and dataplane. In other
words, while most of the cases plan to flush entries, when bfd goes
down, there are some cases where that bfd event should be ignored. this
is the case with non stop forwarding mechanisms where entries may be
kept. this is the case for BGP, when graceful restart capability is
used. If BFD event down happens, and bgp is in graceful restart mode, it
is wished to ignore the BFD event while waiting for the remote router to
restart.
The changes take into account the following:
- add a config flag across zebra layer so that daemon can set or not the
cbit capability.
- ability for daemons to read the remote bfd capability associated to a bfd
notification.
- in bfdd, according to the value, the cbit value is set
- in bfdd, the received value is retrived and stored in the bfd session
context.
- by default, the local cbit announced to remote is set to 1 while
preservation of the local path is not set.

The CLI grammer sandbox needs to initialize the northbound subsystem
otherwise the running_config global variable won't be set, which
leads to crashes.

The route_map_event_hook callback was passing the `route_map_event_t`
to each individual interested party. No-one is ever using this data
so let's cut to the chase a bit and remove the pass through of data.
This is considered ok in that the routemap.c code came this way
originally and after 15+ years no-one is using this functionality.
Nor do I see any `easy` way to do anything useful with this data.

From looking at a current PR: #4297, we see that routemap.c code
was not properly updating dependency information for some
route_map_event_t enum types. This has lead to dependancy
information not being updated properly. While at this time
I do not know whether or not we need to update the switch
for the missing types, I do know that if we add something in
the future we should make the person adding the code consider
this. So let's remove all `default:` switch statement handlers
from routemap.c when switching on an enum. Future time will
need to be spent to figure out what is needed to be done here.

Each of Lua's major versions are incompatible with each other. Ubuntu,
at least, does not provide a single liblua.so or /usr/include/lua; all
SOs and headers are versioned, e.g. liblua5.3.so and
/usr/include/lua5.3. There's already an m4 macro in the GNU collection
to handle this situation, so let's use that.
This allows building with Lua enabled to work on platforms other than
Fedora.

This fix aims to reduce the load on BGPD when certain
exisiting configurations are replayed.
Specifically, the fix prevents BGPD from processing
routes when the following already existing configurations
are replayed:
1) A match criteria is configured within a route-map.
2) When "call" is invoked within a route-map.
3) When a route-map is tied to a BGP neighbor.

Route map library creates a hash table to save the dependency binding.
route-map LRM permit 1
call rLRM
Whenever there is change in child routemap(rLRM), it tries to
find the dependency mapping with the child route map MATCH event
and it fails.The handing of match add and match delete was missing
to get the correct dependency,here it's LRM.
This fix would correct the flow to get the correct dependency.

This is an extension to previous behavior, where the bind() operation
was performed only when vrf was not a netns backend kind. This was done
like that because usually the bind parameter is the vrf name itself, and
having an interface name with vrf name is an expectation so that the
bind operation works.
the bind() operation can be performed on whatever device provided that
that name is not null and there is an interface in the vrf that has the
same name as the parameter.

libyang 1.0 introduced a few changes in the user types API, and
these changes made FRR incompatible with libyang 1.x. In order to
ease our migration from libyang 0.x to libyang 1.x, let's disable
our libyang custom user types temporarily so that FRR can work
with both libyang 0.x and libyang 1.x. This should be especially
helpful to the CI systems during the transition. Once the migration
to libyang 1.x is complete, this commit will be reverted.
Disabling our libyang custom user types should have only
minimal performance implications when processing configuration
transactions. The user types infrastructure should be more important
in the future to perform canonization of YANG data values when
necessary.

By the power of the C preprocessor, these macros provide type-safe
warppers for simple lists, skiplists and hash tables. Also, by changing
the instantiation macro, it is easily possible to switch between
algorithms; the code itself does not need to be changed since the API
is identical across all algorithms.

The upcoming gRPC-based northbound plugin will run on a separate
pthread, and it will need to have access to the running configuration
global variable. Introduce a rw-lock to control concurrent access
to the running configuration. Add the lock inside the "nb_config"
structure so that it can be used to protect candidate configurations
as well (this might be necessary depending on the threading scheme
of future northbound plugins).

The ability to lock the running configuration to prevent other users
from changing it is a very important one. We already supported
the "configure exclusive" command but the lock was applied to
the CLI users only (other clients like ConfD could still commit
configuration transactions, ignoring the CLI lock). This commit
introduces a global lock for the running configuration that is
shared by all northbound clients, and provides a public API to
manipulate it. This way other northbound clients will also be able
to lock/unlock the running configuration if required (the upcoming
gRPC northbound plugin will have RPCs for that).
NOTE: this is a management-level lock for the running configuration,
not to be confused with low-level locks used to avoid data races.

Prevent IPv6 routes received via a ibgp session with one of its own interface
ip as nexthop from getting installed in the BGP table.
Implemented IPV6 HASH table, where we need to add any ipv6 address as they
gets configured and delete them from the HASH table as the ipv6 addresses
get unconfigured. The above hash table is used to verify if any route learned
via BGP has nexthop which is equal to one of its its connected ipv6 interface.

IMET route is optional if the flood mode is PIM-SM and serves
no functional purpose. So this change limits type-3 route generation
to flood-mode=head-end-replication.

This solves a crash that happens if the "route-map" command is used
after "router rip" + "no router rip" + "router rip".
Once interface route-maps are converted to the new northbound model,
we'll be able to remove the if_rmap_ctx_list global list (which is
an ugly hack to make things work right now).
Bug found by the CLI fuzzer.

Found that zebra_rnh_apply_nht_rmap would set the
NEXTHOP_FLAG_ACTIVE if not blocked by the route-map, even
if the flag was not active prior to the check. This fix
changes the flag used to denote the nexthop is filtered so
that proper active state can be retained. Additionally,
found two cases where we would send invalid nexthops via
send_client, which would also cause this crash. All three
fixed in this commit.

static routes like every other route in the system. This was
a special case for handling static route code that just didn't
get finished cleaning up.

Certain operations, like removing non-presence containers or
modifying list keys, are not considered to be valid from the
perspective of the northbound layer. This is because we want to
implement a minimum set of northbound configuration callbacks and
use them to process all possible configuration changes.
The removal of a np-container [1], for example, can be processed by
calling the "delete" callback of all of its child nodes (recursion
is used for np-container child nodes). Similarly, the modification
of a list key can be processed as if the corresponding list entry
was removed and readded with updated key values. This strategy saves
us the burden of implementing lots of extra configuration callbacks.
That said, the nb_operation_is_valid() function shouldn't be used
for anything other than checking which callbacks are valid for
which YANG nodes. Using it in the nb_candidate_edit() function
is inappropriate as we want as much flexibility as possible when
editing a candidate configuration. We should allow CLI commands,
for example, to remove np-containers (the northbound layer will then
figure out which callbacks need to be called when this candidate
is committed). Remove the check.
[1] We can't do the same for presence containers since they have a
"create" callback associated with them.

the FRR daemons will initialize the northbound database. This should
fix a few warnings when running some unit tests.

Introduce a hash table to keep track of user pointers associated
to configuration entries. The previous strategy was to embed
the user pointers inside libyang data nodes, but this solution
incurred a substantial performance overhead. The user pointers
embedded in candidate configurations could be lost while the
configuration was being edited, so they needed to be regenerated
before the candidate could be committed. This was done by the
nb_candidate_restore_priv_pointers() function, which was extremely
expensive for large configurations. The new hash table solves this
performance problem.
The yang_dnode_[gs]et_entry() functions were renamed and moved from
yang.[ch] to northbound.[ch], which is a more appropriate place
for them. This patch also introduces the nb_running_unset_entry()
function, the counterpart of nb_running_set_entry() (unsetting
user pointers was done automatically before, now it needs to be
done manually).
As a consequence of these changes, we shouldn't need support for
libyang private pointers anymore (-DENABLE_LYD_PRIV=ON). But it's
probably a good idea to keep requiring this feature as we might
need it in the future for other things (e.g. disable configuration
settings without removing them).

MD5 auth on TCP is supported for prefixes in recent versions of Linux;
add complementary support for FRR.
This is a reworked version of Donald's commit to keep library
compatibility and obviate the need for changes in daemons that don't
need to support this themselves.

Split the "debug northbound" command into the following commands:
* debug northbound callbacks configuration
* debug northbound callbacks state
* debug northbound callbacks rpc
* debug northbound notifications
* debug northbound events
* debug northbound client confd
* debug northbound client sysrepo
If "debug northbound" is entered alone, all of its suboptions
are enabled.
This commit also adds code to debug state/rpc callbacks and
notifications (only configuration callbacks were logged before).
Use the debugging infrastructure from "lib/debug.h" in order to
benefit from its facilities (e.g. MT-safe debugging) and avoid
code duplication.

Add a hash function to turn a nexthop group into a
32 bit unsigned hash key with jhash. We do not care to
hash any recursively resolved nexthops, just the group.

Avoid tracking 0.0.0.0/32 nexthop with RIB.
When routes are aggregated,

Problem found in bgpd where it wasn't learning interface address
information at startup due to the interface information becoming
available before the bgp instance was created. This issue was
caused by an earlier change that tried to make the interface
information discovery process more efficient but left this hole
for bgpd. For now, putting back in the previous method of
gathering interface info via the zclient_send_reg_requests call
and will revisit a more efficient way to get the info in the future.

Privs escalation is process-wide, and a multi-threaded process
can deadlock. This adds a mutex and a counter to the privs
object, preventing multiple threads from making the privs
escalation system call.

Non-presence containers don't have "destroy" callbacks. So, once
a np-container is deleted, we need to call the "destroy" callbacks
of its child nodes instead.
This commit doesn't fix any real problem as of now since all
np-containers from the FRR YANG modules contain or one more mandatory
child nodes, so they can't be deleted (libyang will add missing
np-containers when validating data). Nevertheless, upcoming YANG
modules should benefit from this change.

In the case of EVPN symmetric routing, the tenant VRF is associated with
a VNI that is used for routing and commonly referred to as the L3 VNI or
VRF VNI. Corresponding to this VNI is a VLAN and its associated L3 (IP)
interface (SVI). Overlay next hops (i.e., next hops for routes in the
tenant VRF) are reachable over this interface. Howver, in the model that
is supported in the implementation and commonly deployed, there is no
explicit Overlay IP address associated with the next hop in the tenant
VRF; the underlay IP is used if (since) the forwarding plane requires
a next hop IP. Therefore, the next hop has to be explicit flagged as
onlink to cause any next hop reachability checks in the forwarding plane
to be skipped.

Use existing mechanism to specify the nexthops as onlink when installing
these routes from bgpd to zebra and get rid of a special flag that was
introduced for EVPN-sourced routes. Also, use the onlink flag during next
hop validation in zebra and eliminate other special checks.

After creating a libyang context, we need to hook up our callback to use
embedded built-in modules. I hadn't added this to the yang translator
code.
Also, ly_ctx_new fails if the search directory doesn't exist. Since
that's not a hard error for us, work around that and ignore inaccessible
YANG_MODELS_DIR. (This is needed for snap packages.)

an interface rmap context can be created from a custom name string,
instead of a vrf. This ability permits to handle several instances of
interface route map in the same vrf. The naming convention will be
transparent on what the name is for in the daemon code.

so as to handle ri/ripng/eigrp multiple instances, the need is to
encapsulate if_rmap hash table into a container context self to each
instance. This work then reviews the if_rmap api, mainly by adding a
if_rmap_ctx context, that is passed for each exchange between library
and the daemon.

This patch adds support to nexthops of type NEXTHOP_TYPE_IFINDEX to
nexthop-groups. This should be especially useful when dealing with
p2p interfaces like tunnels that don't have IP addresses assigned
to them.
NOTE: nh->addr can be NULL now, so we should always perform a null
check before dereferencing this pointer.

Use a pointer to a sockunion instead of a full sockunion in the
nexthop_hold structure. This prepares the ground for the next commit,

C++ doesn't support implicit casts from void pointers like C
does. And the libfrr headers have some bits of code that rely on
implicit casts in order to work. To solve this problem, add a new
"static_cast" macro that performs explicit static casts when a C++
compiler is being used, or do nothing otherwise.
NOTE: since macros are only evaluated when they are used, there
might be other macros from libfrr that will need to use "static_cast"
as well. If a header is successfully compiled using a C++ compiler,
there's no guarantee that its macros are compatible with C++. We'll
only know about such macros when they are used by C++ code, then
we'll need to adapt them one by one in the future.

Two different definitions of "enum filter_type" exist in libfrr:
one in lib/filter.h and other in lib/command_match.h. Rename one
of them to resolve a conflict that happens when both headers are
included by the same file.

Some misc changes to resolve some c++ compilation errors.
The goal is only to permit an external module - a plugin,
for example - to see frr headers, not to support or encourage
contributions in c++. The changes include: avoiding use
of keywords like 'new', 'delete'; cleaning up implicit
type-casting from 'void *' in several places.

on interface search algorithm, at initialisation, when reading config
file, the vrf backend may not be yet known ( because zebra did not sync
yet with daemon). For that, avoid searching interface name in a separate
vrf. This change of behaviour is induced because the assumption is done
that at config startup, the user is not wrong with the interface
configuration to use. Every usage of vrf_get_backend() should then be
wisely adapted in order to handle that init state.

other daemons need to sync with zebra to get to know which vrf backend
is available. in that time, there may be interface configuration
available. in that specific case, the vrf backend returned is not known.
A specific return value is sent back. This will be useful to know which
specific algorithm to apply.

If tcp_l3mdev_accept = 0, then creating a socket for a vrf
for communication is allowed. On the other hand if it is =1
then the vrf_socket() code assumes that we have created
a listen socket in the default vrf. This is a bad assumption
in that it is perfectly valid to create a bgp instance like this:

But not to create a default bgp instance. As such when BGP
would call the vrf_socket to create the listener for that vrf
the code was dissallowing it.
This code is incorrect behavior. If we are passing in a interface
to bind the socket to, it is not the correct behavior to just not
bind, especially if the interface passed in is not a vrf name.

The onlink attribute was being passed from upper level protocols
as an attribute of the route *not* the individual nexthop. When
we pass this data to the kernel, we treat the onlink as a attribute
of the nexthop. This commit modifies the code base to allow
us to pass the ONLINK attribute as an attribute of the nexthop.
This commit also fixes static routes that have multiple nexthops
some onlink and some not.

The macvlan device is used primarily for RX (VR-IP/VR-MAC). And TX is via
the SVI. To acheive that functionality the macvlan network's metric
is set to a higher value.
Zebra currently ignores the devaddr metric sent by the kernel and hardcodes
it to 0. This commit eliminates that hardcoding. If the devaddr metric
is available (METRIC_MAX) it is used for setting up the connected route
otherwise we fallback to the dev/interface metric.
Setting the macvlan metric to a higher value ensures that zebra will always
select the connected route on the SVI (and subsequently use it for next hop
resolution etc.) -

When a local neigh is added with a MAC that is remote or absent the
neigh is kept in zebra as local/in-active. But not propagated to bgpd.
Similarly when an inactive neigh is deleted the del-msg is not propagated
to bgpd.
Without this change bgp and zebra would fall out of sync as that
bgp would not know to rerun bestpath and for it to reinstall a
known remote path for the mac-ip in question. To fix this we
now propagate inactive neigh deletes to bgpd.

Starting with libyang 0.16.74, we can load internally embedded yang
extensions instead of going through the file system/dlopen. Detect
support for this at build time and use if available.

Now that all daemons receive the VRF backend from zebra, we can get
rid of vrf_is_mapped_on_netns() in favor of using the more convenient
vrf_is_backend_netns() function, which doesn't require any argument.
This commit also fixes the following problem:

Even when zebra was started with the --vrfwnetns, the error
above would be displayed since the VRF FAKE didn't exist, which
would make vrf_is_mapped_on_netns() return 0 incorrectly. Using
vrf_is_backend_netns() this problem doesn't happen anymore.

Add a new field in the ZEBRA_CAPABILITIES zapi message specifying
the VRF backend in use.
For simplicity, make the zclient code call vrf_configure_backend()
to apply the received value automatically instead of requiring
the daemons to do that themselves in their zebra_capabilities()
callbacks.
Additionally, call zebra_vrf_update_all() only after sending the
capabilities message to the client, so that it will know which VRF
backend is in use when processing the VRF messages.
This commit fixes a couple of bugs in the "interface" CLI command and
associated northbound callbacks, which behave differently depending
on the VRF backend in use. Before this commit, the vrf_backend
variable would always be set to VRF_BACKEND_NETNS in the client
daemons, even when zebra was started without the --vrfwnetns option.
This could lead to inconsistent behavior and subtle bugs under
specific circumstances.

We can make use of the vty->config variable to know when the CLI
user is in the configuration mode or not. This is much simpler
than obtaining this information from the vty node, and also a more
robust solution (the three switch statements below, for example,
were out of sync).
Also, fix a bug where vty->config wasn't being unset in the
vty_config_exit() function (bug introduced by commit f344c66ea3).

The CLI code uses the vty->xpath[] array and the vty->xpath_index
variables to keep track of where the user is in the configuration
hierarchy. As such, we were resetting vty->xpath_index to zero
whenever the user exited from the configuration mode in order to
keep the index valid. We weren't doing this in the vty_stop_input()
function however, which is called when the user types ^C in the
terminal. This was leading to bugs like this:

To fix this, do something more clever: instead of resetting the
XPath index whenever the user exits from the configuration mode,
do that when the user enters in the configuration mode. This way
the XPath index needs to be reset in a single place only, not to
mention it's a more robust solution.

When lyd_validate() is used with the LYD_OPT_DATA option, full YANG
validation is performed. As a side-effect to this, default nodes are
created, which is not desirable when displaying operational data
since configuration nodes can also be created. Use LYD_OPT_GET
option to resolve this problem.

In these two functions, we were using VRF_DEFAULT instead of the
VRF ID passed as a parameter when checking if the given client
subscribed to receive default routes or not. This prevented the
"default-originate" command from ospfd/isisd from working correctly
under specific circumstances.

Since commit 3a11599c, the FRR YANG modules are embedded inside the
binaries and no longer need to be loaded from the file system. This
way, it's impossible for the FRR binaries and YANG modules to be out
of sync anymore. As such, update the suggestions of the northbound
error codes.

Instead of aborting when an incomplete xpath is given to the
nb_oper_data_iterate() function, just return an error so that the
callers have a chance to treat this error. Aborting based on invalid
user input is never the right thing to do.

When FRR is built without the --enable-config-rollbacks option,
the nb_db_transaction_save() function does nothing and the
"transaction_id" output parameter is left uninitialized. For
this reason, all northbound clients should initialize the
"transaction_id" argument before calling nb_candidate_commit() or
nb_candidate_commit_apply() (except when a NULL pointer is given,
which is the case of the confd and sysrepo plugins).

We are already handling all possible four cases from the "nb_event"
enumeration, so this problem can't happen in practice. Initialize the
"ref" variable to zero to silence the warning.

Some daemons like ospfd and isisd have the ability to advertise a
default route to their peers only if one exists in the RIB. This
is what the "default-information originate" commands do when used
without the "always" parameter.
For that to work, these daemons use the ZEBRA_REDISTRIBUTE_DEFAULT_ADD
message to request default route information to zebra. The problem
is that this message didn't have an AFI parameter, so a default route
from any address-family would satisfy the requests from both daemons
(e.g. ::/0 would trigger ospfd to advertise a default route to its
peers, and 0.0.0.0/0 would trigger isisd to advertise a default route
to its IPv6 peers).
Fix this by adding an AFI parameter to the
ZEBRA_REDISTRIBUTE_DEFAULT_{ADD,DELETE} messages and making the
corresponding code changes.

The current invocation of frr_pthread_set_name was causing it reset the os_name.
There is no need for this, we now always create the pthread appropriately
to have both name and os_name. So convert this function to a simple
call through of the pthread call now.

When we start a thread we always call fpt_run and since
the last commit we know os_name is filled with something,
therefore we can just set the name on startup.

I removed the abstraction to frr_pthread_set_name because
it was snprintf'ing into the same buffer which was the
real bug here( the first character of os_name became null).
In the next commit I'll remove that api because
it is unneeded and was a horrible hack to get
this to work for the one place it was wanted.

On call of frr_pthread_new, save the os_name if given,
if not given use the name passed in( shortening to fit
in available space ) and finally if the name was not
passed in use the default value.

When using getrusage, we have multiple choices about what
to call for data gathering about this particular thread of execution.
RUSAGE_SELF -> This means gather all cpu run time for all pthreads associated
with this process.
RUSAGE_THREAD -> This means gather all cpu run time for this particular
pthread.
Clearly with data gathering for slow thread as well as `show thread cpu`
it would be preferable to gather only data about the current running
pthread. This probably was the original behavior of using RUSAGE_SELF
when we didn't have multiple pthreads. So it didn't matter so much.
Prior to this change, 10 iterations of 1 million routes install/remove
from zebra would give us this cpu time for the dataplane pthread:

This is the start of a series of commits that will allow FRR to
be integrated into mlag.
Zebra and Pim will both need mlag state for the router. As such we will
need to provide a abstract about this state through the zapi.
This is the start of the common header that both Pim and Zebra will
be using.

FreeBSD's libc segfaults when vsnprintf() is called with a null
format string. Add a null check before calling vsnprintf() to
resolve this problem.

Unlike the other interface zapi messages, ZEBRA_INTERFACE_VRF_UPDATE
identifies interfaces using ifindexes and not interface names. This
is a problem because zebra always sends ZEBRA_INTERFACE_DOWN
and ZEBRA_INTERFACE_DELETE messages before sending
ZEBRA_INTERFACE_VRF_UPDATE, and the ZEBRA_INTERFACE_DELETE callback
from all daemons set the interface index to IFINDEX_INTERNAL. Hence,
when decoding a ZEBRA_INTERFACE_VRF_UPDATE message, the interface
lookup would always fail since the corresponding interface lost
its ifindex. Example (ospfd):

To fix this problem, use interface names instead of ifindexes to
indentify interfaces like the other interface zapi messages do.

a distribute_ctx context pointer is returned after initialisation to the
calling daemon. this context pointer will be further used to do
discussion with distribute service. Today, there is no specific problem
with old api, since the pointer is the same in all the memory process.
but the pointer will be different if we have multiple instances. Right
now, this is not the case, but if that happens, that work will be used
for that.
distribute-list initialisation is split in two. the vty initialisation
is done at global level, while the context initialisation is done for
each routing daemon instance.
babel daemon is being equipped with a routing returning the main babel
instance.
also, a delete routine is available when the daemon routing instance is
suppressed.
a list of contexts is used inside distribute_list. This will permit
distribute_list utility to handle in the same daemon to handle more than
one context. This will be very useful in the vrf context.

This commit is the last missing piece to complete BGP LU support in bgpd. To this moment, bgpd (and zebra) supported auto label assignment only for prefixes leaked from VRFs to vpn and for MPLS SR prefixes. This adds auto label assignment to other routes types in bgpd. The following enhancements have been made:
* bgp_route.c:bgp_process_main_one() now sets implicit-null local_label to all local, aggregate and redistributed routes.
* bgp_route.c:bgp_process_main_one() now will request a label from the label pool for any prefix that loses the label for some reason (for example, when the static label assignment config is removed)
* bgp_label.c:bgp_reg_dereg_for_label() now requests labels from label pool for routes which have no associated label index
* zebra_mpls.c:zebra_mpls_fec_register() now expects both label and label_index from the calling function, one of which must be set to MPLS_INVALID_LABEL or MPLS_INVALID_LABEL_INDEX, based on this it will decide how to register the provided FEC.

Just copying th const char* of the xpath means that if we
are enqueing multiple changes from a buffer, the last xpath
addedd will overwrite all of the previous references.
Copying the xpath to a buffer simplifies the API when
retrofitting the commands.

As suggested by Renato, add error codes that are specific
to the various phases of a northbound callback. These can
be used by the daemons when logging an error. The reasoning
is that validation errors typically mean that there is an
inconsistency in the configuration, a prepare error means
that we are running out of resources, and abort/apply errors
are bugs that need to be reported to the devs.

Support an optional timeout/delay for use when a workqueue
determines that it is blocked, instead of retrying immediately.
Also, schedule as an 'event' instead of a 'timer' when using
a zero timeout value.

YANG allows lists without keys for operational data, in which case
the list elements are uniquely identified using a positional index
(starting from one).
This commit does the following:
* Remove the need to implement the 'get_keys' and 'lookup_entry'
callbacks for keyless lists.
* Extend nb_oper_data_iter_list() so that it special-cases keyless
lists appropriately. Since both the CLI and the sysrepo plugin
use nb_oper_data_iterate() to fetch operational data, both these
northbound clients automatically gain the ability to understand
keyless lists without additional changes.
* Extend the confd plugin to special-case keyless lists as well. This
was a bit painful to implement given ConfD's clumsy API, but
keyless lists should work ok now.
* Update the "test_oper_data" unit test to test keyless YANG lists in
addition to regular lists.

ConfD and Sysrepo implement configuration transactions using a
two-phase commit protocol (prepare + abort/apply). For network-wide
transactions to work, ConfD and Sysrepo move to the second phase of
the commit protocol only after receiving the results of the first
phase from all devices involved in the transaction. If all devices
succeed in the 'prepare' phase, then all of them move to the 'apply'
phase and the transaction is committed. On the other hand, if any
device fails in the 'prepare' phase, all of them move to 'abort'
phase and the transaction is aborted.
The confd and sysrepo plugins were implementing the full
two-phase commit protocol upon receiving a request to validate
the configuration changes and allocate all resources required to
apply them (first phase). The notifications to abort or apply the
changes (second phase) were being ignored since everything was being
done in the first phase for simplicity. This wasn't a problem for
single-device transactions, but it is for transactions involving
multiple devices. Rework the code a bit to do things properly and
fix this problem.

The "show" command will be available in the configuration mode and
all configuration subnodes. It's used to display the section of
the candidate configuration being edited, instead of displaying
the entire candidate configuration like when "show configuration
candidate" is used. The goal is to add more convenience when editing
huge configurations.
When the transactional CLI mode is not used, the candidate
configuration and the running configuration are identical, hence in
this case we can say that the "show" command displays the section
of the running configuration being edited.

The "show" command only works for daemons converted to the new
northbound model. vtysh support will be implemented at a later
time as it will require some level of coordination between vtysh
and the FRR daemons.

Confirmed commits allow the user to request an automatic rollback to
the previous configuration if the commit operation is not confirmed
within a number of minutes. This is particularly useful when the user
is accessing the CLI through the network (e.g. using SSH) and any
configuration change might cause an unexpected loss of connectivity
between the user and the managed device (e.g. misconfiguration of a
routing protocol). By using a confirmed commit, the user can rest
assured the connectivity will be restored after the given timeout
expires, avoiding the need to access the router physically to fix
the problem.
When "commit confirmed TIMEOUT" is used, a new "commit" command is
expected to confirm the previous commit before the given timeout
expires. If "commit confirmed TIMEOUT" is used while there's already
a confirmed-commit in progress, the confirmed-commit timeout is
reset to the new value.
In the current implementation, if other users perform commits while
there's a confirmed-commit in progress, all commits are rolled back
when the confirmed-commit timeout expires. It's recommended to use
the "configure exclusive" configuration mode to prevent unexpected
outcomes when using confirmed commits.
When an user exits from the configuration mode while there's a
confirmed-commit in progress, the commit is automatically rolled
back and the user is notified about it. In the future we might
want to prompt the user if he or she really wants to exit from the
configuration mode when there's a pending confirmed commit.
Needless to say, confirmed commit only work for configuration
commands converted to the new northbound model. vtysh support will
be implemented at a later time.

Introduce frr-ripngd.yang, which defines a model for managing the
FRR ripngd daemon.
Update the 'frr_yang_module_info' array of ripngd with the new
'frr-ripngd' module.
Add two new files (ripng_cli.[ch]) which should contain all ripngd
commands converted to the new northbound model. Centralizing all
commands in a single place will facilitate the process of moving
the CLI to a separate program in the future.
Add automatically generated stub callbacks in
ripng_northbound.c. These callbacks will be implemented gradually
in the following commits.
Add the confd.frr-ripngd.yang YANG module with annotations specific
to the ConfD daemon.

We sometimes store ifindex information in the NEXTHOP_TYPE_IPV[4|6]
so let's let us display that information as well when dumping
a nexthop.
