Taking into account the current status of the callchain, i.e. if folded,
show "Expand", otherwise "Collapse", also show the name of the entry
that will be affected and mention the hotkeys for expanding/collapsing
all callchains below the main entry, the one that appears with/without
callchains.

Since previously pressing ENTER toggled expansion/collapse of callchain
entries and now brings up the same menu used when callchains are not
present, add an entry so that users can quickly figure out the change in
behaviour.
Its worth mentioning that we also always had 'e'/'c' to expand/collapse
all entries in a hist entry and 'E'/'C' for all hist entries.

When callchains are present the ENTER key switches from bringing up the
menu that offers Annotation, Zoom by DSO, etc to expanding/collapsing
one callchain level, causing confusion, fix it by making it consistently
bring up the menu and use '+' to expand/collapse one callchain level.
Next patch will also add an entry to the menu to allow
expanding/collapsing, so that people used to ENTER expanding one
callchain level can quickly find it and use it instead.

This patch supports jumping from tui total cycles view to symbol source
view.
For example,
perf record -b ./div
perf report --total-cycles
In total cycles view, we can select one entry and press 'a' or press
ENTER key to jump to symbol source view.
This patch also sets sort_order to NULL in cmd_report() which will use
the default branch sort order. The percent value in new annotate view
will be consistent with the percent in annotate view switched from perf
report (we observed the original percent gap with previous patches).

It would be nice if we could jump to the assembler/source view (like the
normal perf report) from total cycles view.
This patch moves the block_hists_tui_browse from block-info.c to
ui/browsers/hists.c in order to reuse some browser codes (i.e
do_annotate) for implementing new annotation view.

So that we pass that substructure around and with it consolidate lots of
functions that receive a (map, symbol) pair and now can receive just a
'struct map_symbol' pointer.
This further paves the way to add 'struct map_groups' to 'struct
map_symbol' so that we can have all we need for annotation so that we
can ditch 'struct map'->groups, i.e. have the map_groups pointer in a
more central place, avoiding the pointer in the 'struct map' that have
tons of instances.

Fix a crash issue when running perf report without
'--total-cycles'. The issue is because the internal flag
is renamed from 'total_cycles' to 'total_cycles_mode' in
previous patch but this patch still uses 'total_cycles'
to check if the '--total-cycles' option is enabled, which
causes the code to be inconsistent.

We got the sane_ctype.h headers from git and kept using it so far, but
since that code originally came from the kernel sources to the git
sources, perhaps its better to just use the one in the kernel, so that
we can leverage tools/perf/check_headers.sh to be notified when our copy
gets out of sync, i.e. when fixes or goodies are added to the code we've
copied.
This will help with things like tools/lib/string.c where we want to have
more things in common with the kernel, such as strim(), skip_spaces(),
etc so as to go on removing the things that we have in tools/perf/util/
and instead using the code in the kernel, indirectly and removing things
like EXPORT_SYMBOL(), etc, getting notified when fixes and improvements
are made to the original code.
Hopefully this also should help with reducing the difference of code
hosted in tools/ to the one in the kernel proper.

Now 'perf report' can show whole time periods with 'perf script', but
the user still has to find individual samples of interest manually.
It would be expensive and complicated to search for the right samples in
the whole perf file. Typically users only need to look at a small number
of samples for useful analysis.
Also the full scripts tend to show samples of all CPUs and all threads
mixed up, which can be very confusing on larger systems.
Add a new --samples option to save a small random number of samples per
hist entry.
Use a reservoir sample technique to select a representatve number of
samples.
Then allow browsing the samples using 'perf script' as part of the hist
entry context menu. This automatically adds the right filters, so only
the thread or cpu of the sample is displayed. Then we use less' search
functionality to directly jump the to the time stamp of the selected
sample.
It uses different menus for assembler and source display. Assembler
needs xed installed and source needs debuginfo.
Currently it only supports as many samples as fit on the screen due to
some limitations in the slang ui code.

The scripts menu traditionally only showed custom perf scripts.
Allow to run standard perf script with useful default options too.
- Normal perf script
- perf script with assembler (needs xed installed)
- perf script with source code output (needs debuginfo)
- perf script with custom arguments
Then we automatically select the right options to display the
information in the perf.data file.
For example with -b display branch contexts.
It's not easily possible to check for xed's existence in advance. perf
script usually gives sensible error messages when it's not available.

When using the time sort key, add new context menus to run scripts for
only the currently selected time range. Compute the correct range for
the selection add pass it as the --time option to perf script.

At the cost of an extra pointer, we can avoid the O(logN) cost of
finding the first element in the tree (smallest node), which is
something heavily required for histograms. Specifically, the following
are converted to rb_root_cached, and users accordingly:

So far if we use 'perf record -g' this will make
symbol_conf.use_callchain 'true' and logic will assume that all events
have callchains enabled, but ever since we added the possibility of
setting up callchains for some events (e.g.: -e
cycles/call-graph=dwarf/) while not for others, we limit usage scenarios
by looking at that symbol_conf.use_callchain global boolean, we better
look at each event attributes.
On the road to that we need to look if a hist_entry has callchains, that
is, to go from hist_entry->hists to the evsel that contains it, to then
look at evsel->sample_type for PERF_SAMPLE_CALLCHAIN.
The next step is to add a symbol_conf.ignore_callchains global, to use
in the places where what we really want to know is if callchains should
be ignored, even if present.
Then -g will mean just to select a callchain mode to be applied to all
events not explicitely setting some other callchain mode, i.e. a default
callchain mode, and --no-call-graph will set
symbol_conf.ignore_callchains with that clear intention.
That too will at some point become a per evsel thing, that tools can set
for all or just a few of its evsels.

The per-browser screen refresh routine (ui_browser->refresh()) should
return the first row that should be cleaned after the rows just printed,
in case not all rows available on the screen gets filled.
When moving the extra title lines logic from the hists browser to the
generic ui_browser class, one piece of that logic remained in the hists
browser and then when going back from the annotate browser to the hists
browser in a case where fewer lines were displayed in the hists browser,
for instance when filtering the entries per substring, one line of the
annotate browser would remain on the screen, fix that.

Here from 'perf top' the view was zoomed with '/thunk' to functions
having that substring, then the first was annotated and from the
annotate browser ESC was pressed, then the first lines were overwritten,
but the 'lfence' line remained due to the off by one bug fixed in this

This will be useful for the annotate browser as well, that wants to have
extra title lines, i.e. the current ui_browser unconditionally reserves
the first line for a browser title and the last one for status messages.
But some browsers, like the buckets one (hists browser) needs extra
lines to show headers, allowing it to be shown or not, press 'H' in
'perf top' or 'perf report' to see this feature.
So move that logic to the core ui_browser used by the hists_browser
('perf top' and 'perf report' main interface) so that it can be used by
the annotate browser too.

The previous patch made this function useful to non-TUI parts of the
tools, but left it where the function from what it was carved, so that
the patch showed more clearly the process.
Now just move it outside the TUI parts so that we can finally use it,
even when the TUI code doesn't get built/linked.

Rename it to hists_browser__scnprintf_title() to better reflect that it
provides a scnprintf-like function operating on a hists_browser

For overwrite mode, the ringbuffer will be paused. The event lost is
expected. It needs a way to notify the browser not print the warning.
It will be used later for perf top to disable lost event warning in
overwrite mode. There is no behavior change for now.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

The branch history code has a loop detection function. With this, we can
get the number of iterations by calculating the removed loops.
While it would be nice for knowing the average cycles of iterations.
This patch adds up the cycles in branch entries of removed loops and
save the result to the next branch entry (e.g. branch entry A).
Finally it will display the iteration number and average cycles at the
"from" of branch entry A.

Currently perf supports a mode to query inline stack. It works well for
finding user space inline functions but it doesn't work for kernel ones,
due to some unnecessary check.
This patch removes these unnecessary checks. Now kernel inline functions
can be reported.
For example:
perf report --inline -g func --stdio

| do_huge_pmd_anonymous_page (inline)

Often it is interesting to know how costly a given source line is in
total. Previously, one had to build these sums manually based on all
addresses that pointed to the same source line. This patch introduces
srcline as a sort key, which will do the aggregation for us.
Paired with the recent addition of showing inline frames, this makes
perf report much more useful for many C++ work loads.
The following shows the new feature in action. First, let's show the
status quo output when we sort by address. The result contains many hist
entries that generate the same output:

Similarly, if there is no branch tsx abort, the "abort" is hidden.
There is only cycles shown (cycle is supported on skylake platform,
older platform would be 0).

When horizontal scrolling is used in hierarchy mode, the folded signed
disappears at the right most column.
Committer note:
To test it, run 'perf top --hierarchy, see the '+' symbol at the first
column, then press the right arrow key, the '+' symbol will disappear,
this patch fixes that.

disappeared.

Here is a small patch which tries to fulfill a point in the perf todo
list:
* Make pressing 'V' multiple times to go on cycling thru various
verbosity levels in 'perf top', so that info that is present in
'perf top -v' can be obtained without having to restart the tool
(acme).
After a small grep in the code, the max verbosity level seems 3; so,
we cycle at 4; I did not dare define a MAX_VERBOSE_LEVEL constant.

Markus reported that 'perf top --hierarchy' cannot scroll down after
refresh. This was because the number of entries are not updated when
hierarchy is enabled.
Unlike normal report view, hierarchy mode needs to keep its own entry
count since it can have non-leaf entries which can expand/collapse.

Milian reported that the event group on TUI shows duplicated overhead.
This was due to a bug on calculating hpp->buf position. The
hpp_advance() was called from __hpp__slsmg_color_printf() on TUI but
it's already called from the hpp__call_print_fn macro in __hpp__fmt().
The end result is that the print function returns number of bytes it
printed but the buffer advanced twice of the length.
This is generally not a problem since it doesn't need to access the
buffer again. But with event group, overhead needs to be printed
multiple times and hist_entry__snprintf_alignment() tries to fill the
space with buffer after it printed. So it (brokenly) showed the last
overhead again.
The bug was there from the beginning, but I think it's only revealed
when the alignment function was added.

Add span argument for header callback function.
The handling of this argument is completely in the hands of the
callback. The only thing the caller ensures is it's zeroed on the
beginning.
Omitting span skipping in hierarchy headers and gtk code.
The c2c code use this to span header lines based on the entries span
configuration.

Currently we support just single line headers, this is first step to
allow more.
Store the number of header lines in perf_hpp_list, which encompasses all
the display/sort entries and is thus suitable to hold this value.

The tools so far have been using the strerror_r() GNU variant, that
returns a string, be it the buffer passed or something else.
But that, besides being tricky in cases where we expect that the
function using strerror_r() returns the error formatted in a provided
buffer (we have to check if it returned something else and copy that
instead), breaks the build on systems not using glibc, like Alpine
Linux, where musl libc is used.
So, introduce yet another wrapper, str_error_r(), that has the GNU
interface, but uses the portable XSI variant of strerror_r(), so that
users rest asured that the provided buffer is used and it is what is
returned.
