Char/Misc and other driver changes for 6.12-rc1
Here is the "big" set of char/misc and other driver subsystem changes for 6.12-rc1. Sorry for the delay, conference travel for the past two weeks has this and my other pull requests showing up real late in the cycle. Lots of changes in here, primarily dominated by the usual IIO driver updates and additions, but there are also small driver subsystem updates all over the place. The cyttsp4 touchscreen driver was contributed in 2013 and since then has seen no updates. The driver uses platform data (no device tree support) and there are no users of it in the mainline kernel. There were occasional fixes to it for issues either found by static code analysis tools or via visual inspection, but otherwise the driver is completely untested. Remove the driver. hid-asus: use hid for brightness control on keyboard
On almost all ASUS ROG series laptops the MCU used for the USB keyboard also has a HID packet used for setting the brightness. This is usually the same as the WMI method. Add support for vivobook fan profiles wmi call on the ASUS VIVOBOOK to adjust power limits. These fan profiles have a different device id than the ROG series and different order. This reorders the existing modes. As part of keeping the patch clean the throttle_thermal_policy_available boolean stored in the driver struct is removed and throttle_thermal_policy_dev is used in place (as on init it is zeroed). i2c: mux: gpio: Add support for the 'settle-time-us' property
Some hardware need some time to switch from a bus to another. This can cause the first transfers following the selection of a bus to fail. There is no way to configure this kind of waiting time in the driver. Add support for the 'settle-time-us' device-tree property. When set, the i2c_mux_gpio_select() applies a delay before returning, leaving enough time to the hardware to switch to the new bus. Char/Misc and other driver subsystem changes for 6.10-rc1
Here is the big set of char/misc and other driver subsystem updates for 6.10-rc1. Nothing major here, just lots of new drivers and updates for apis and new hardware types. I2C core removes an argument from the i2c_mux_add_adapter() call to

sound updates for 6.10-rc1
This one became bigger than usual, not in the total size but rather containing lots of small changes all over the places. The majority of changes are about ASoC, especially SOF / Intel stuff, and we see an interesting work for ASoC DAPM graph visualization, while there are many other code cleanup and refactoring, too. uio: pruss: Remove this driver
This UIO driver was used to control the PRU processors found on various TI SoCs. It was created before the Remoteproc framework, but now with that we have a standard way to program and manage the PRU processors. The proper PRU Remoteproc driver should be used instead of this driver. This driver only supported the original class of PRUSS (OMAP-L1xx / AM17xx / AM18xx / TMS320C674x / DA8xx) but when these platforms were switched to use Device Tree the support for DT was not added to this driver and so it is now unused/unusable. Support for these platforms can be added to the proper PRU Remoteproc driver if ever needed. Remove this driver. clk: x86: Move clk-pmc-atom register defines to include/linux/platform_data/x86/pmc_atom.h
Move the register defines for the Atom (Bay Trail, Cherry Trail) PMC clocks to include/linux/platform_data/x86/pmc_atom.h. This is a preparation patch to extend the S0i3 readiness checks in drivers/platform/x86/pmc_atom.c with checking that the PMC clocks are off on suspend entry. Note these are added to include/linux/platform_data/x86/pmc_atom.h rather then to include/linux/platform_data/x86/clk-pmc-atom.h because the former already has all the other Atom PMC register defines. net: mdio: mdio-bcm-unimac: Manage clock around I/O accesses
Up until now we have managed not to have the mdio-bcm-unimac manage its clock except during probe and suspend/resume. This works most of the time, except where it does not. With a fully modular build, we can get into a situation whereby the GENET driver is fully registered, and so is the mdio-bcm-unimac driver, however the Ethernet PHY driver is not yet, because it depends on a resource that is not yet available (e.g.: GPIO provider). In that state, the network device is not usable yet, and so to conserve power, the GENET driver will have turned off its "main" clock which feeds its MDIO controller. When the PHY driver finally probes however, we make an access to the PHY registers to e.g.: disable interrupts, and this causes a bus error within the MDIO controller space because the MDIO controller clock(s) are turned off. To remedy that, we manage the clock around all of the I/O accesses to the hardware which are done exclusively during read, write and clock divider configuration. This ensures that the register space is accessible, and this also ensures that there are not unnecessarily elevated reference counts keeping the clocks active when the network device is administratively turned off. It would be the case with the previous way of managing the clock. wifi: cw1200: Convert to GPIO descriptors
The CW1200 uses two GPIOs to control the powerup and reset pins, get these from GPIO descriptors instead of being passed as platform data from boardfiles. The RESET line will need to be marked as active low as we will let gpiolib handle the polarity inversion. The SDIO case is a bit special since the "card" need to be powered up before it gets detected on the SDIO bus and properly probed. Fix this by using board-specific GPIOs assigned to device "NULL". There are currently no in-tree users. (controllers set the flag, but there is no client to use it). Also, CLASS_SPD support gets simplified to prepare removal in the future. Class based instantiation is not recommended these days anyhow. Input: omap-keypad - drop optional GPIO support
The driver supports passing some GPIO lines for rows and columns through the driver data, but there is no in-kernel user of this. Further the use seems convoluted because the GPIO lines are unused in the driver, then explicitly free:ed when removing it without being requested when probing it, which is assymetric and just a recepie for disaster. Remove the support for these unused GPIOs, if need be support can be reestablished in an organized fashion using GPIO descriptors. net: dsa: microchip: properly support platform_data probing
The ksz driver has bits and pieces of platform_data probing support, but it doesn't work. The conventional thing to do is to have an encapsulating structure for struct dsa_chip_data that gets put into dev->platform_data. This driver expects a struct ksz_platform_data, but that doesn't contain a struct dsa_chip_data as first element, which will obviously not work with dsa_switch_probe() -> dsa_switch_parse(). Pointing dev->platform_data to a struct dsa_chip_data directly is in principle possible, but that doesn't work either. The driver has ksz_switch_detect() to read the device ID from hardware, followed by ksz_check_device_id() to compare it against a predetermined expected value. This protects against early errors in the SPI/I2C communication. With platform_data, the mechanism in ksz_check_device_id() doesn't work and even leads to NULL pointer dereferences, since of_device_get_match_data() doesn't work in that probe path. So obviously, the platform_data support is actually missing, and the existing handling of struct ksz_platform_data is bogus. Complete the support by adding a struct dsa_chip_data as first element, and fixing up ksz_check_device_id() to pick up the platform_data instead of the unavailable of_device_get_match_data(). The early dev->chip_id assignment from ksz_switch_register() is also bogus, because ksz_switch_detect() sets it to an initial value. So remove it. Also, ksz_platform_data :: enabled_ports isn't used anywhere, delete it. platform/x86: asus-wmi: disable USB0 hub on ROG Ally before suspend
ASUS have worked around an issue in XInput where it doesn't support USB selective suspend, which causes suspend issues in Windows. They worked around this by adjusting the MCU firmware to disable the USB0 hub when the screen is switched off during the Microsoft DSM suspend path in ACPI. The issue we have with this however is one of timing - the call the tells the MCU to this isn't able to complete before suspend is done so we call this in a prepare() and add a small msleep() to ensure it is done. This must be done before the screen is switched off to prevent a variety of possible races. Further to this the MCU powersave option must also be disabled as it can cause a number of issues such as: - unreliable resume connection of N-Key - complete loss of N-Key if the power is plugged in while suspended Disabling the powersave option prevents this.
