1c0e78a287 can: mcp251xfd: mcp251xfd_register_get_dev_id(): fix endianness conversion
In mcp251xfd_register_get_dev_id() the device ID register is read with
handcrafted SPI transfers. As all registers, this register is in
little endian. Further it is not naturally aligned in struct
mcp251xfd_map_buf_nocrc::data. However after the transfer the register
content is converted from big endian to CPU endianness not taking care
of being unaligned.

Fix the conversion by converting from little endian to CPU endianness
taking the unaligned source into account.

Side note: So far the register content is 0x0 on all mcp251xfd
compatible chips, and is only used for an informative printk.

0ff32bfa0e can: mcp251xfd: mcp251xfd_register_get_dev_id(): use correct length to read dev_id
The device ID register is 32 bits wide. The driver uses incorrectly
the size of a pointer to a u32 to calculate the length of the SPI
transfer. This results in a read of 2 registers on 64 bit platforms.
This is no problem on the Linux side, as the RX buffer of the SPI
transfer is large enough. In the mpc251xfd chip this results in the
read of an undocumented register. So far no problems were observed.

Fix the length of the SPI transfer to read the device ID register
only.

d5a972f561 can: mcp251xfd: mcp251xfd_stop(): add missing hrtimer_cancel()
In commit 169d00a256 ("can: mcp251xfd: add TX IRQ coalescing
support") software based TX coalescing was added to the driver. The
key idea is to keep the TX complete IRQ disabled for some time after
processing it and re-enable later by a hrtimer. When bringing the
interface down, this timer has to be stopped.

Add the missing hrtimer_cancel() of the tx_irq_time hrtimer to
mcp251xfd_stop().

e3d4ee7d5f can: mcp251xfd: mcp251xfd_regmap_crc_read(): update workaround broken CRC on TBC register
The mcp251xfd compatible chips have an erratum ([1], [2]), where the
received CRC doesn't match the calculated CRC. In commit
c7eb923c3c ("can: mcp251xfd: mcp251xfd_regmap_crc_read(): work
around broken CRC on TBC register") the following workaround was
implementierend.

- If a CRC read error on the TBC register is detected and the first
  byte is 0x00 or 0x80, the most significant bit of the first byte is
  flipped and the CRC is calculated again.
- If the CRC now matches, the _original_ data is passed to the reader.
  For now we assume transferred data was OK.

New investigations and simulations indicate that the CRC send by the
device is calculated on correct data, and the data is incorrectly
received by the SPI host controller.

Use flipped instead of original data and update workaround description
in mcp251xfd_regmap_crc_read().

bfe0092dc2 can: Kconfig: add CONFIG_CAN_RX_OFFLOAD
Only a few drivers rely on the CAN rx offload framework (as of the
writing of this patch, only four: flexcan, m_can, mcp251xfd and
ti_hecc). Split it out of can-dev and add a new config symbol:
CAN_RX_OFFLOAD.

The drivers relying on CAN rx offload are in different sub
folders. Make CAN_RX_OFFLOAD an hidden option and tag all the drivers
depending on that feature with "select CAN_RX_OFFLOAD" so that the
option gets automatically enabled if and only if one of those drivers
is chosen.

clang emits a -Wunaligned-access warning on union
mcp251xfd_tx_ojb_load_buf.

The reason is that field hw_tx_obj (not declared as packed) is being
packed right after a 16 bits field inside a packed struct:

Starting from LLVM 14, having an unpacked struct nested in a packed
struct triggers a warning. c.f. [1].

This is a false positive because the field is always being accessed
with the relevant put_unaligned_*() function. Adding __packed to the
structure declaration silences the warning.

6c1e423a3c can: can-dev: remove obsolete CAN LED support
Since commit 30f3b42147 ("can: mark led trigger as broken") the
CAN specific LED support was disabled and marked as BROKEN. As the
common LED support with CONFIG_LEDS_TRIGGER_NETDEV should do this work
now the code can be removed as preparation for a CAN netdevice Kconfig
rework.

60a848c50d can: mcp251xfd: add RX IRQ coalescing support
This patch adds RX IRQ coalescing support to the driver.

The mcp251xfd chip doesn't support proper hardware based coalescing,
so this patch tries to implemented it in software. The RX-FIFO offers
a "FIFO not empty" interrupt, which is used if no coalescing is
active.

With activated RX IRQ coalescing the "FIFO not empty" interrupt is
disabled in the RX IRQ handler and the "FIFO half full" or "FIFO full
interrupt" (depending on RX max coalesced frames IRQ) is used instead.
To avoid RX CAN frame starvation a hrtimer is setup with RX coalesce
usecs IRQ,on timer expiration the "FIFO not empty" is enabled again.

Support for ethtool configuration is added in the next patch.

c9e6b80dfd can: mcp251xfd: update macros describing ring, FIFO and RAM layout
So far the configuration of the hardware FIFOs is hard coded and
depend only on the selected CAN mode (CAN-2.0 or CAN-FD).

This patch updates the macros describing the ring, FIFO and RAM layout
to prepare for the next patches that add support for runtime
configurable ring parameters via ethtool.

887e359d6c can: mcp251xfd: prepare for multiple RX-FIFOs
This patch prepares the driver to use more than one RX-FIFO. Having a
bigger RX buffer is beneficial in high load situations, where the
system temporarily cannot keep up reading CAN frames from the chip.
Using a bigger RX buffer also allows to implement RX IRQ coalescing,
which will be added in a later patch series.

If using more than 1 RX-FIFO the driver has to figure out, which FIFOs
have RX'ed CAN frames pending. This is indicated by a set bit in the
RXIF register, which is positioned directly after the interrupt status
register INT. If more than 1 RX-FIFO is used, the driver reads both
registers in 1 transfer.

The mcp251xfd_handle_rxif() function iterates over all RX rings and
reads out the RX'ed CAN frames for for all pending FIFOs. To keep the
logic for the 1 RX-FIFO only case in mcp251xfd_handle_rxif() simple,
the driver marks that FIFO pending in mcp251xfd_ring_init().

The chip has a dedicated RX interrupt line to signal pending RX'ed
frames. If connected to an input GPIO and the driver will skip the
initial read of the interrupt status register (INT) and directly read
the pending RX'ed frames if the line is active. The driver assumes the
1st RX-FIFO pending (a read of the RXIF register would re-introduce
the skipped initial read of the INT register). Any other pending
RX-FIFO will be served in the main interrupt handler.

additionally prints the base address of each FIFO.

Since the mcp251xfd_ring_init() may fail due to wrongly configured
FIFOs, printing of the FIFO setup is moved there. In case of an error
it would not be printed in mcp251xfd_ring_init().

current driver the FIFO setup is fixed and always fits into the RAM.

This patch improves the initialization of the TX and RX rings. The
initialization functions are now called with pointers to the next free
address (in the on chip RAM) and next free hardware FIFO. The rings
are initialized using these values and the pointers are modified to
point to the next free elements.

This means the order of the mcp251xfd_ring_init_*() functions
specifies the order of the rings in the hardware FIFO. This makes it
possible to change the order of the TX and RX FIFOs, which is done in
the next patch.

The function mcp251xfd_chip_wait_for_osc_ready() polls the Oscillator
Control Register for the oscillator to get ready.

This is the first register the driver reads from. Reading implausible
values (all bits set or unset) can be caused by the chip starting up
after power on, waking up after sleep, or by the chip not being preset
at all. Add check for implausible register content
mcp251xfd_reg_invalid() to the regmap_read_poll_timeout() loop.

In case of a regmap_read_poll_timeout() returns a fatal error (and not
a timeout), forward it to the caller.

As mcp251xfd_chip_wait_for_osc_ready() will be called after the probe
function has finished, (currently during ifup), move error message
about failed chip detection from there into the probe function.

25386c9a01 can: mcp251xfd: mcp251xfd_regmap_crc_read(): ignore CRC error only if solely OSC register is read
MCP251XFD_REG_OSC is the first register the driver reads from. The
chip may be in deep sleep and the SPI transfer (i.e. the assertion of
the CS) will wake the chip up. This takes about 3ms. The CRC of this
transfer is wrong, or there isn't any chip at all, in this case the
CRC will be wrong, too. The driver ignores the CRC error and returns
the read data to the caller.

To avoid any confusion, this patch changes the
mcp251xfd_regmap_crc_read() function to only ignore the CRC error if
solely the OSC register is read. So when reading more than the OSC
registers at once, CRC errors are not ignored.

spi: make remove callback a void function
The value returned by an spi driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)

So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

The actual payload length of the CAN Remote Transmission Request (RTR)
frames is always 0, i.e. no payload is transmitted on the wire.
However, those RTR frames still use the DLC to indicate the length of
the requested frame.

As such, net_device_stats::tx_bytes should not be increased when
sending RTR frames.

The function can_get_echo_skb() already returns the correct length,
even for RTR frames (c.f. [1]). However, for historical reasons, the
drivers do not use can_get_echo_skb()'s return value and instead, most
of them store a temporary length (or dlc) in some local structure or
array. Using the return value of can_get_echo_skb() solves the
issue. After doing this, such length/dlc fields become unused and so
this patch does the adequate cleaning when needed.

This patch fixes all the CAN drivers.

Finally, can_get_echo_skb() is decorated with the __must_check
attribute in order to force future drivers to correctly use its return
value (else the compiler would emit a warning).

f68eafeb97 can: do not copy the payload of RTR frames
The actual payload length of the CAN Remote Transmission Request (RTR)
frames is always 0, i.e. no payload is transmitted on the wire.
However, those RTR frames still use the DLC to indicate the length of
the requested frame.

For this reason, it is incorrect to copy the payload of RTR frames
(the payload buffer would only contain garbage data). This patch
encapsulates the payload copy in a check toward the RTR flag.

30bfec4fec can: rx-offload: can_rx_offload_threaded_irq_finish(): add new function to be called from threaded interrupt
After reading all CAN frames from the controller in the IRQ handler
and storing them into a skb_queue, the driver calls napi_schedule().
In the napi poll function the skb from the skb_queue are then pushed
into the networking stack.

However if napi_schedule() is called from a threaded IRQ handler this
triggers the following error:

| NOHZ tick-stop error: Non-RCU local softirq work is pending, handler #08!!!

To avoid this, create a new rx-offload
function (can_rx_offload_threaded_irq_finish()) with a call to
local_bh_disable()/local_bh_enable() around the napi_schedule() call.

Convert all drivers that call can_rx_offload_irq_finish() from
threaded IRQ context to can_rx_offload_threaded_irq_finish().

ef68a71796 can: mcp251xfd: mcp251xfd_irq(): stop timestamping worker in case error in IRQ
In case an error occurred in the IRQ handler, the chip status is
dumped via devcoredump and all IRQs are disabled, but the chip stays
powered for further analysis.

The chip is in an undefined state and will not receive any CAN frames,
so shut down the timestamping worker, which reads the TBC register
regularly, too. This avoids any CRC read error messages if there is a
communication problem with the chip.

03c427147b can: mcp251x: fix resume from sleep before interface was brought up
Since 8ce8c0abcb the driver queues work via priv->restart_work when
resuming after suspend, even when the interface was not previously
enabled. This causes a null dereference error as the workqueue is only
allocated and initialized in mcp251x_open().

To fix this we move the workqueue init to mcp251x_can_probe() as there
is no reason to do it later and repeat it whenever mcp251x_open() is
called.

c7eb923c3c can: mcp251xfd: mcp251xfd_regmap_crc_read(): work around broken CRC on TBC register
MCP251XFD_REG_TBC is the time base counter register. It increments
once per SYS clock tick, which is 20 or 40 MHz. Observation shows that
if the lowest byte (which is transferred first on the SPI bus) of that
register is 0x00 or 0x80 the calculated CRC doesn't always match the
transferred one.

To reproduce this problem let the driver read the TBC register in a
high frequency. This can be done by attaching only the mcp251xfd CAN
controller to a valid terminated CAN bus and send a single CAN frame.
As there are no other CAN controller on the bus, the sent CAN frame is
not ACKed and the mcp251xfd repeats it. If user space enables the bus
error reporting, each of the NACK errors is reported with a time
stamp (which is read from the TBC register) to user space.

This leads to several error messages per second:

If the highest bit in the lowest byte is flipped the transferred CRC
matches the calculated one. We assume for now the CRC calculation in
the chip works on wrong data and the transferred data is correct.

This patch implements the following workaround:

- If a CRC read error on the TBC register is detected and the lowest
  byte is 0x00 or 0x80, the highest bit of the lowest byte is flipped
  and the CRC is calculated again.
- If the CRC now matches, the _original_ data is passed to the reader.
  For now we assume transferred data was OK.

Some SPI host controllers do not support full-duplex SPI transfers.

The function mcp251x_spi_trans() does a full duplex transfer. It is
used in several places in the driver, where a TX half duplex transfer
is sufficient.

To fix support for half duplex SPI host controllers, this patch
introduces a new function mcp251x_spi_write() and changes all callers
that do a TX half duplex transfer to use mcp251x_spi_write().

efd8d98dfb can: mcp251xfd: add HW timestamp infrastructure
This patch add the HW timestamping infrastructure. The mcp251xfd has a
free running timer of 32 bit width, running at max 40MHz, which wraps
around every 107 seconds. The current timestamp is latched into RX and
TEF objects automatically be the CAN controller.

This patch sets up a cyclecounter, timecounter and delayed worker
infrastructure (which runs every 45 seconds) to convert the timer into
a proper 64 bit based ns timestamp.

In the patches:

the setting of the UINC bit in the TEF and RX FIFO was batched into a
single SPI message consisting of several transfers. All transfers but
the last need to have the cs_change set to 1.

In the original patches the array of prepared transfers is send from
the beginning with the length depending on the number of read TEF/RX
objects. The cs_change of the last transfer is temporarily set to
0 during send.

This patch removes the modification of cs_change by preparing the last
transfer with cs_change to 0 and all other to 1. When sending the SPI
message the driver now starts with an offset into the array, so that
it always ends on the last entry in the array, which has the cs_change
set to 0.

e0ab3dd5f9 can: mcp251xfd: add dev coredump support
For easier debugging this patch adds dev coredump support to the
driver. A dev coredump is generated in case the chip fails to start or
an error in the interrupt handler is detected.

The dev coredump consists of all chip registers and chip memory, as
well as the driver's internal state of the TEF-, RX- and TX-FIFOs, it
can be analyzed with the mcp251xfd-dump tool of the can-utils:

f318482a1c can: dev: can_free_echo_skb(): extend to return can frame length
In order to implement byte queue limits (bql) in CAN drivers, the
length of the CAN frame needs to be passed into the networking stack
even if the transmission failed for some reason.

To avoid to calculate this length twice, extend can_free_echo_skb() to
return that value. Convert all users of this function, too.

This patch is the natural extension of commit:
