Provide infrastructure which allows to generate machine_has_<feature>()
functions, which are replacing the existing MACHINE_HAS_<feature> macros.
Such function usages generate a static branch depending on <feature>. The
static branch is patched using an alternative.
Each <feature> correlates with a bit set in the machine_features bit
field. If the corresponding bit is set, the branch will be patched. In
order to have any effect on branch patching feature bits must be set with
set_machine_features() in the decompressor before alternatives patching of
the kernel image.
It is possible to use clear_machine_feature() and test_machine_feature()
for machine features which cannot be completely detected within the
decompressor, e.g. if common code command line parameters allow to enable
or disable certain features. In such cases test_machine_feature() instead
of machine_has_feature() must be used within the kernel. This results in a
runtime check and not a static branch.

Avoid that the compiler generates an mvcos loop for constant sizes
smaller than 4096 bytes. The mvcos instruction copies between zero and
4096 bytes (effective length) with one operation. Therefore it is not
necessary to implement a loop for sizes smaller or equal to 4096
bytes.
This reduces the kernel text size by ~50kb (defconfig, gcc 14.2.0):

Inline copy_from_user() and copy_to_user(). With the shortened inline
assemblies of raw_copy_to_user() and raw_copy_from_user() the additional
kernel text size is acceptable, considering that this avoids function
calls on hot paths.
This increases the kernel text size by ~90kb (defconfig, gcc 14.2.0):

Implement separate raw_copy_to_user_key() and raw_copy_from_user_key()
functions, which allows to remove the open-coded operand access control
handling from the normal raw_copy_to_user() / raw_copy_from_user()
functions - they are simplified to use immediate instructions to load
hard-coded operand access control values into register zero, which saves
one instruction.

Add specific exception handler for copy_to_user() / copy_from_user()
mvcos fault handling, which allows to shorten the inline assemblies to
three instructions.
On fault the exception handler adjusts the length used by the mvcos
instruction in a way that the instruction completes with condition code
zero, indicating the number of bytes copied with the input/output operand
'size'. This allows to calculate and return the number of bytes not copied,
if any, like required.
Loop and return value handling is changed to C so that the compiler may
optimize the code.

In order to fix a bug, arm64 needs to be told the size of the huge page
for which the huge_pte is being cleared in huge_ptep_get_and_clear().
Provide for this by adding an `unsigned long sz` parameter to the
function. This follows the same pattern as huge_pte_clear() and
set_huge_pte_at().
This commit makes the required interface modifications to the core mm as
well as all arches that implement this function (arm64, loongarch, mips,
parisc, powerpc, riscv, s390, sparc). The actual arm64 bug will be fixed
in a separate commit.

At this point, the dma_table is really a property of the s390-iommu
domain. Rather than checking its contents elsewhere in the codebase,
move the code that registers the table with firmware into
s390-iommu and make a decision what to register with firmware based
upon the type of domain in use for the device in question.

The original Open Systems Adapter (OSA) was introduced by IBM in the
mid-90s. These were then superseded by OSA-Express in 1999 which used
Queued Direct IO to greatly improve throughput. The newer cards
retained the older, slower non-QDIO (OSE) modes for compatibility with
older systems. In Linux, the lcs driver was responsible for cards
operating in the older OSE mode and the qeth driver was introduced to
allow the OSA-Express cards to operate in the newer QDIO (OSD) mode.
For an S390 machine from 1998 or later, there is no reason to use the
OSE mode and lcs driver as all OSA cards since 1999 provide the faster
OSD mode. As a result, it's been years since we have heard of a
customer configuration involving the lcs driver.
This patch removes the lcs driver. The technology it supports has been
obsolete for past 25+ years and is irrelevant for current use cases.

page table being shadowed.

Until now, every dat table allocated to map a guest was put in a
linked list. The page->lru field of struct page was used to keep track
of which pages were being used, and when the gmap is torn down, the
list was walked and all pages freed.
This patch gets rid of the usage of page->lru. Page tables are now
freed by recursively walking the dat table tree.
Since s390_unlist_old_asce() becomes useless now, remove it.

All gmap page faults are already handled in kvm by the function
kvm_s390_handle_dat_fault(); only few users of gmap_fault remained, all
within kvm.
Convert those calls to use kvm_s390_handle_dat_fault() instead.
Remove gmap_fault() entirely since it has no more users.

With the switch to GENERIC_CPU_DEVICES an early call to the sclp subsystem
was added to smp_prepare_cpus(). This will usually succeed since the sclp
subsystem is implicitly initialized early enough if an sclp based console
is present.
If no such console is present the initialization happens with an
arch_initcall(); in such cases calls to the sclp subsystem will fail.
For CPU detection this means that the fallback sigp loop will be used
permanently to detect CPUs instead of the preferred READ_CPU_INFO sclp
request.
Fix this by adding an explicit early sclp_init() call via
arch_cpu_finalize_init().

Similar to commit eb6efdfeae ("s390/uaccess: add KMSAN support to
put_user() and get_user()") disable KMSAN instrumention for futex inline
assemblies, which contain dereferenced user pointers. With KMSAN
instrumentation this would lead to accesses of shadows for user pointers,
which should not happen.
Handle the futex operations like they copy a value (old) from user
space to kernel space.

The s390 implementations of raw_copy_from_user() and raw_copy_to_user() are
never inlined. However INLINE_COPY_FROM_USER and INLINE_COPY_TO_USER are
still set. This leads to the odd situation that only the error handling
(memset to zero of the not copied bytes) of copy_from_user() is inlined,
while the actual fast path code is out-of-line.
This would make sense if raw_copy_from_user() and raw_copy_to_user() were
implemented in assembler files, where inlining is not possible. But the
current s390 setup does not make any sense.
Address this by moving the raw uaccess copy inline assemblies to the
uaccess header file, and remove INLINE_COPY_FROM_USER and
INLINE_COPY_TO_USER definitions. This way the uaccess code, but now
including error handling, is still out-of-line with the common code
_copy_from_user() and _copy_to_user() variants, which inline the raw
uaccess functions via _inline_copy_from_user() and _inline_copy_to_user().
This reduces the size of the kernel image by ~17kb.

Remove EX_TABLE_UA_LOAD_MEM exception handling and replace it with
EX_TABLE_UA_FAULT. Open code the return code check, and also open code
setting of the destination to zero in case of an error. In almost all cases
the compiler is able to optimize the open coded checks away, since all
users of get_users() must check the return code, and are not supposed to
use the result in case of an error.
In addition this allows to change the get_user() inline assembly so that
the "Q" constraint can be used for the destination, instead of only an "a"
constraint. This generates slightly better code.

The __put_user_fn() and __get_user_fn() wrappers are leftovers from the
time where the kernel was compiled with or without mvcos support plus they
were later used to workaround the problems that came with asm register
constructs.
Both reasons do not exist anymore, therefore remove the wrappers and
shorten the code.

Use the mvc instruction in order to implement __get_kernel_nofault() and
__put_kernel_nofault(). Both functions have a source and destination
address where the code is supposed to read from and write to. Use the mvc
instruction to copy from source to destination instead of lg/stg like
instructions. This generates slightly better code.

Use the more precise CONFIG_CC_HAS_ASM_AOR_FORMAT_FLAGS to tell if the

Config options which can be used to check for compiler bugs and features
have the compiler independent CC prefix in order to avoid duplicating and

The fixup section was added again by mistake when test_fp_ctl() was
removed. The reason for the removal of the fixup section is described in
commit 484a8ed8b7 ("s390/extable: add dedicated uaccess handler").
Remove it again for the same reason.
Add an exception handler which handles exceptions when the floating point
control register is attempted to be set to invalid values. The exception
handler sets the floating point control register to zero and continues
execution at the specified address.
The new sfpc inline assembly is open-coded to make back porting a bit
easier.

Introduce boot_debug() calls to track memory detection, online ranges,
reserved areas, and allocations (except for VMEM allocations, which are
too frequent). Instead introduce dump_physmem_reserved() function which
prints out full memory tracking information. This helps in debugging
early boot memory handling.

When CONFIG_PRINTK_TIME is enabled, add timestamps to boot messages in
the same format as regular printk. Timestamps appear only with earlyprintk
and are stored in the boot messages ring buffer, but are not propagated
to main kernel messages (if earlyprintk is not enabled). This prevents
double timestamps in the output.

Enhance boot debugging by allowing the "bootdebug" kernel parameter to
accept an optional comma-separated list of prefixes. Only debug messages
starting with these prefixes will be printed during boot. For example:
bootdebug=startup,vmem
Not specifying a filter for the "bootdebug" parameter prints all debug
messages. The `boot_fmt` macro can be defined to set a common prefix:
#define boot_fmt(fmt) "startup: " fmt

Suppress decompressor debug messages by default, similar to regular
kernel debug messages that require 'DEBUG' or 'dyndbg' to be enabled
(depending on CONFIG_DYNAMIC_DEBUG). Introduce a 'bootdebug' option to
enable printing these messages when needed.
All messages are still stored in the boot ring buffer regardless.
To enable boot debug messages:
bootdebug debug
Or combine with 'earlyprintk' to print them without delay:
bootdebug debug earlyprintk

When earlyprintk is not specified, boot messages are only stored in a
ring buffer to be printed later by printk when console driver is
registered.
Critical messages from boot_emerg() are always printed immediately,
even without earlyprintk.

Collect all boot messages into a ring buffer independent of the current
log level. This allows to retain all boot-time messages, which is
particularly useful for analyzing early crashes.

Following on from the introduction of P4D-level ctor/dtor, let's finish
the job and introduce ctor/dtor at PGD level. The incurred improvement in
page accounting is minimal - the main motivation is to create a single,
generic place where construction/destruction hooks can be added for all
page table pages.
This patch should cover all architectures and all configurations where
PGDs are one or more regular pages. This excludes any configuration where
PGDs are allocated from a kmem_cache object.

Several architectures (arm, arm64, riscv and x86) define exactly the same
__tlb_remove_table(), just introduce generic __tlb_remove_table() to
eliminate these duplications.
The s390 __tlb_remove_table() is nearly the same, so also make s390
__tlb_remove_table() version generic.

The pagetable_p*_dtor() are exactly the same except for the handling of
ptlock. If we make ptlock_free() handle the case where ptdesc->ptl is
NULL and remove VM_BUG_ON_PAGE() from pmd_ptlock_free(), we can unify
pagetable_p*_dtor() into one function. Let's introduce pagetable_dtor()
to do this.
Later, pagetable_dtor() will be moved to tlb_remove_ptdesc(), so that
ptlock and page table pages can be freed together (regardless of whether
RCU is used). This prevents the use-after-free problem where the ptlock
is freed immediately but the page table pages is freed later via RCU.

- Have fprobes built on top of function graph infrastructure
The fprobe logic is an optimized kprobe that uses ftrace to attach to
functions when a probe is needed at the start or end of the function. The
fprobe and kretprobe logic implements a similar method as the function
graph tracer to trace the end of the function. That is to hijack the
return address and jump to a trampoline to do the trace when the function
exits. To do this, a shadow stack needs to be created to store the
original return address. Fprobes and function graph do this slightly
differently. Fprobes (and kretprobes) has slots per callsite that are
reserved to save the return address. This is fine when just a few points
are traced. But users of fprobes, such as BPF programs, are starting to add
many more locations, and this method does not scale.
The function graph tracer was created to trace all functions in the
kernel. In order to do this, when function graph tracing is started, every
task gets its own shadow stack to hold the return address that is going to
be traced. The function graph tracer has been updated to allow multiple
users to use its infrastructure. Now have fprobes be one of those users.
This will also allow for the fprobe and kretprobe methods to trace the
return address to become obsolete. With new technologies like CFI that
need to know about these methods of hijacking the return address, going
toward a solution that has only one method of doing this will make the
kernel less complex.
- Cleanup with guard() and free() helpers
There were several places in the code that had a lot of "goto out" in the
error paths to either unlock a lock or free some memory that was
allocated. But this is error prone. Convert the code over to use the
guard() and free() helpers that let the compiler unlock locks or free
memory when the function exits.
- Remove disabling of interrupts in the function graph tracer
When function graph tracer was first introduced, it could race with
interrupts and NMIs. To prevent that race, it would disable interrupts and
not trace NMIs. But the code has changed to allow NMIs and also
interrupts. This change was done a long time ago, but the disabling of
interrupts was never removed. Remove the disabling of interrupts in the
function graph tracer is it is not needed. This greatly improves its
performance.
- Allow the :mod: command to enable tracing module functions on the kernel
command line.
The function tracer already has a way to enable functions to be traced in
modules by writing ":mod:<module>" into set_ftrace_filter. That will
enable either all the functions for the module if it is loaded, or if it
is not, it will cache that command, and when the module is loaded that
matches <module>, its functions will be enabled. This also allows init
functions to be traced. But currently events do not have that feature.

The futex operation FUTEX_OP_ANDN is supposed to implement
*(int *)UADDR2 &= ~OPARG;
The s390 implementation just implements an AND instead of ANDN.
Add the missing bitwise not operation to oparg to fix this.
This is broken since nearly 19 years, so it looks like user space is
not making use of this operation.

The generic bitops implementation is nearly identical to the s390
implementation therefore switch to the generic variant.
This results in a small kernel image size decrease. This is because for
the generic variant the nr parameter for most bitops functions is of
type unsigned int while the s390 variant uses unsigned long.

The inline assembly uses the ahi instruction to decrement and test
whether more than 256 bytes are left for conversion. But the nr
variable passed is of type unsigned long. Therefore use aghi.

The current code compares whether the nr argument is less or equal to
zero. As nr is of type unsigned long, this isn't correct. Fix this by just
testing for zero. This is also reported by checkpatch:
unsignedLessThanZero: Checking if unsigned expression 'nr--' is less
than zero.

While converting to generic mmu_gather with commit 9de7d833e3
("s390/tlb: Convert to generic mmu_gather") __tlb_adjust_range()
is called from pte|pmd|p4d_free_tlb(), but not for pud_free_tlb().
__tlb_adjust_range() adjusts the span of TLB range to be flushed,
but s390 does not make use of it. Thus, this change is only for
consistency.

Fprobe store its data structure address and size on the fgraph return stack
by __fprobe_header. But most 64bit architecture can combine those to
one unsigned long value because 4 MSB in the kernel address are the same.
With this encoding, fprobe can consume less space on ret_stack.
This introduces asm/fprobe.h to define arch dependent encode/decode
macros. Note that since fprobe depends on CONFIG_HAVE_FUNCTION_GRAPH_FREGS,
currently only arm64, loongarch, riscv, s390 and x86 are supported.

Rewrite fprobe implementation on function-graph tracer.
Major API changes are:
- 'nr_maxactive' field is deprecated.
- This depends on CONFIG_DYNAMIC_FTRACE_WITH_ARGS or
!CONFIG_HAVE_DYNAMIC_FTRACE_WITH_ARGS, and
CONFIG_HAVE_FUNCTION_GRAPH_FREGS. So currently works only
on x86_64.
- Currently the entry size is limited in 15 * sizeof(long).
- If there is too many fprobe exit handler set on the same
function, it will fail to probe.

Add ftrace_fill_perf_regs() which should be compatible with the
perf_fetch_caller_regs(). In other words, the pt_regs returned from the
ftrace_fill_perf_regs() must satisfy 'user_mode(regs) == false' and can be
used for stack tracing.

Retrieve electrical power readings for resources in a computing
environment via diag 0x324. diag 0x324 stores the power readings in the
power information block (pib).
Provide power readings from pib via diag324 ioctl interface. diag324
ioctl provides new pib to the user only if the threshold time has passed
since the last call. Otherwise, cache data is returned. When there are
no active readers, cleanup of pib buffer is performed.

By default page protection definitions like PAGE_RX have the _PAGE_NOEXEC
bit set. For older machines without the instruction execution protection
facility this bit is not allowed to be used in page table entries, and
therefore must be removed.
This is done at a couple of page table walkers, but also at some but not
all page table modification functions like ptep_modify_prot_commit(). Avoid
all of this and change the page, segment and region3 protection definitions
so that the noexec bit is masked out automatically if the instruction
execution-protection facility is not available. This is similar to what
also various other architectures do which had to solve the same problem.

Using the newly introduced debug_dump() mechanism add formatted content
of pci_debug_msg_id to the PCI report. The formatting is based on the
existing sprintf format but removes caller pointer and area index and
adds an column header. This will allow the platform to collect this log
data together with hardware errors. This sets the reverse flag such that
the newest log entries get added to the PCI report even if not all debug
log entries fit.

In this mode debug_dump() writes the debug log starting at the newest
entry followed by earlier entries. To this end add a debug_prev_entry()
helper analogous to debug_next_entry() a helper to get the latest entry
which is one before the active entry and a helper to iterate either
forward or backward.

The debug_dump() function allows to get the content of a debug log and
view pair in a string buffer. One future application of this is to
provide debug logs to the platform to be collected with hardware error
logs during recovery.

For consistency, remove the `__bootdata` and `__bootdata_preserved`
section annotations from variable declarations in header files. Section
annotations should be applied to definitions, not declarations. This
change moves the annotations to the variable definitions in the

Use __atomic_add_const_and_test() within __preempt_count_dec_and_test().
With this it is possible to decrease preempt_count by one and test if
need_resched is set with one instruction, if the compiler has support for
flag output operand constraints.

GCC uses the number of lines of an inline assembly to calculate its length
(number of instructions). This has an impact on GCCs inlining decisions.
Therefore remove superfluous new lines from a couple of inline
assemblies, so that their real size is reflected.
Also use an "asm inline" statement for the fpu_lfpc_safe() inline assembly
to enforce that GCC assumes the minimum size for this inline assembly,
since it contains various statements which make it appear much larger than
the resulting code is.

Remove the preempt count implementation for pre MARCH_HAS_Z196_FEATURES
builds. If the kernel is compiled with PREEMPT=n, which is the default for
all distributions, this has close to zero impact in the generated code.
Therefore remove the alternative implementation to keep things simple.

With commit c8a91c285d ("s390/atomic: move remaining inline assemblies to
atomic_ops.h") all remaining atomic inline assemblies have been moved to
atomic_ops.h.
However the result is inconsistent: the functions in atomic_ops.h are
supposed to be used with integral types like int and long pointers, while
the functions in atomic.h work with atomic types.
This layering got violated with the named commit. Therefore adjust this
now, and also use consistent variable names in atomic_ops.h.

UFFDIO_POISON for hugetlbfs was added
- Add ARCH_HAS_PREEMPT_LAZY and PREEMPT_DYNAMIC support
- Mark IRQ entries in entry code, so that stack tracers can filter out
the non-IRQ parts of stack traces. This fixes stack depot capacity
limit warnings, since without filtering the number of unique stack
traces is huge
- In PCI code fix leak of struct zpci_dev object, and fix potential

Use mvhhi instead of sth to write a zero to spinlocks. Compared to the
sth variant this avoids the load of zero to a register, and reduces
register pressure.

Commit 8a13897fb0 ("mm: userfaultfd: support UFFDIO_POISON for
hugetlbfs") added support for PTE_MARKER_POISONED for hugetlbfs, but
PTE_MARKER also needs support for swap entries. For s390, swap entries
were only supported on PTE level, not on the PMD/PUD levels that are used
for large hugetlbfs mappings.
Therefore, when writing a PTE_MARKER_POISONED entry, the resulting entry
on PMD/PUD level would be an invalid / empty entry. Further access would
then generate a pagefault loop, instead of the expected SIGBUS. It is a
loop inside the kernel, but interruptible and uffd fault handling also
calls schedule() in between, so at least it won't completely block the
system.
Previous commits prepared support for swap entries on PMD/PUD levels.
PTE_MARKER support for hugetlbfs can now be enabled by simply adding an
extra is_pte_marker() check to huge_pte_none_mostly(). Fault handling
code also needs to be adjusted to expect the VM_FAULT_HWPOISON_LARGE
fault flag, which was not possible on s390 before.

Introduce region-third (PUD) and segment table (PMD) swap entries, and
make hugetlbfs RSTE <-> PTE conversion code aware of them, so that they
can be used for hugetlbfs PTE_MARKER entries. Future work could also
build on this to enable THP_SWAP and THP_MIGRATION for s390.
Similar to PTE swap entries, bits 0-51 can be used to store the swap
offset, but bits 57-61 cannot be used for swap type because that overlaps
with the INVALID and TABLE TYPE bits. PMD/PUD swap entries must be invalid,
and have a correct table type so that pud_folded() check still works.
Bits 53-57 can be used for swap type, but those include the PROTECT bit.
So unlike swap PTEs, the PROTECT bit cannot be used to mark the swap entry.
Use the "Common-Segment/Region" bit 59 instead for that.
Also remove the !MACHINE_HAS_NX check in __set_huge_pte_at(). Otherwise,
that would clear the _SEGMENT_ENTRY_NOEXEC bit also for swap entries, where
it is used for encoding the swap type. The architecture only requires this
bit to be 0 for PTEs, with !MACHINE_HAS_NX, not for segment or region-third
entries. And the check is also redundant, because after __pte_to_rste()
conversion, for non-swap PTEs it would only be set if it was already set in
the PTE, which should never be the case for !MACHINE_HAS_NX.
This is a prerequisite for hugetlbfs PTE_MARKER support on s390, which
is needed to fix a regression introduced with commit 8a13897fb0
("mm: userfaultfd: support UFFDIO_POISON for hugetlbfs"). That commit
depends on the availability of swap entries for hugetlbfs, which were
not available for s390 so far.

Introduce region-third and segment table entry present SW bits, and adjust
pmd/pud_present() accordingly.
Also add pmd/pud_present() checks to pmd/pud_leaf(), to return false for
future swap entries. Same logic applies to pmd_trans_huge(), make that
return pmd_leaf() instead of duplicating the same check.
huge_pte_offset() also needs to be adjusted, current code would return
NULL for !pud_present(). Use the same logic as in the generic version,
which allows for !pud_present() swap entries.
Similar to PTE, bit 63 can be used for the new SW present bit in region
and segment table entries. For segment-table entries (PMD) the architecture
says that "Bits 62-63 are available for programming", so they are safe to
use. The same is true for large leaf region-third-table entries (PUD).
However, for non-leaf region-third-table entries, bits 62-63 indicate the
TABLE LENGTH and both must be set to 1. But such entries would always be
considered as present, so it is safe to use bit 63 as PRESENT bit for PUD.
They also should not conflict with bit 62 potentially later used for
preserving SOFT_DIRTY in swap entries, because they are not swap entries.
Valid PMDs / PUDs should always have the present bit set, so add it to
the various pgprot defines, and also _SEGMENT_ENTRY which is OR'ed e.g.
in pmd_populate(). _REGION3_ENTRY wouldn't need any change, as the present
bit is already included in the TABLE LENGTH, but also explicitly add it
there, for completeness, and just in case the bit would ever be changed.
gmap code needs some adjustment, to also OR the _SEGMENT_ENTRY, like it
is already done gmap_shadow_pgt() when creating new PMDs, but not in
__gmap_link(). Otherwise, the gmap PMDs would not be considered present,
e.g. when using pmd_leaf() checks in gmap code. The various WARN_ON
checks in gmap code also need adjustment, to tolerate the new present
bit.
This is a prerequisite for hugetlbfs PTE_MARKER support on s390, which
is needed to fix a regression introduced with commit 8a13897fb0
("mm: userfaultfd: support UFFDIO_POISON for hugetlbfs"). That commit

Rearrange region-third and segment table entry SW bits, in order to
make room for future encoding of region/segment table swap entries.
Also adjust _SEGMENT_ENTRY_GMAP_UC and _SEGMENT_ENTRY_GMAP_IN bits in
gmap code. Those should only apply for gmap PMDs, and not really depend
on or conflict with host PMD bits, but for consistency also adjust them:
- _SEGMENT_ENTRY_GMAP_UC "dirty (migration)" was using the same bit as
_SEGMENT_ENTRY_SOFT_DIRTY in the host PMD -> make it use the new
SOFT_DIRTY bit 63 (0x0002)
- _SEGMENT_ENTRY_GMAP_IN "invalidation notify bit" was using 0x8000,
which was an unused bit in the host PMD, that is now used for
_SEGMENT_ENTRY_WRITE -> make it use bit 52 (0x0800) instead, which is
still unused in the host PMD
This is a prerequisite for hugetlbfs PTE_MARKER support on s390, which

kvm_s390_update_topology_change_report() modifies a single bit within
sca_utility using cmpxchg(). Given that the size of the sca_utility union
is two bytes this generates very inefficient code. Change the size to four
bytes, so better code can be generated.
Even though the size of sca_utility doesn't reflect architecture anymore
this seems to be the easiest and most pragmatic approach to avoid
inefficient code.

do so was that KVM needs to map both non-refcounted pages (for example
BARs of VFIO devices) and VM_PFNMAP/VM_MIXMEDMAP VMAs that contain
refcounted pages. However, the result was security issues in the past,
and more recently the inability to map VM_IO and VM_PFNMAP memory
that _is_ backed by struct page but is not refcounted. In particular
this broke virtio-gpu blob resources (which directly map host graphics
buffers into the guest as "vram" for the virtio-gpu device) with the
amdgpu driver, because amdgpu allocates non-compound higher order pages
and the tail pages could not be mapped into KVM.
This requires adjusting all uses of struct page in the per-architecture
code, to always work on the pfn whenever possible. The large series that
did this, from David Stevens and Sean Christopherson, also cleaned up
substantially the set of functions that provided arch code with the
pfn for a host virtual addresses. The previous maze of twisty little
passages, all different, is replaced by five functions (__gfn_to_page,
__kvm_faultin_pfn, the non-__ versions of these two, and kvm_prefetch_pages)
saving almost 200 lines of code.

- Switch hugepage recovery thread to use vhost_task.
These kthreads can consume significant amounts of CPU time on
behalf of a VM or in response to how the VM behaves (for example
how it accesses its memory); therefore KVM tried to place the
thread in the VM's cgroups and charge the CPU time consumed by that
work to the VM's container.
However the kthreads did not process SIGSTOP/SIGCONT, and therefore
cgroups which had KVM instances inside could not complete freezing.
Fix this by replacing the kthread with a PF_USER_WORKER thread, via
the vhost_task abstraction. Another 100+ lines removed, with
generally better behavior too like having these threads properly
parented in the process tree.
- Revert a workaround for an old CPU erratum (Nehalem/Westmere) that
didn't really work; there was really nothing to work around anyway:
the broken patch was meant to fix nested virtualization, but the
PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL MSR is virtualized and therefore unaffected by the
erratum.
- Fix 6.12 regression where CONFIG_KVM will be built as a module even
if asked to be builtin, as long as neither KVM_INTEL nor KVM_AMD is
'y'.

The s390dbf format handler rely on being passed an output buffer sized
such that their output will always fit and then use plain sprintf() to
write to it. While only supplied data from other kernel components this
still potentially allows buffer overwrite if callers are not careful.
Instead just pass in the size of the output buffer and use scnprintf()
instead of sprintf() and strscpy() instead of strcpy(). The latter also
allows us to get rid of a separate strlen() call.

There was a fix to locking in register_ftrace_graph() for shadow stacks
that was sent upstream. But this code was also being rewritten, and the
locking fix was needed. Merging this fix was required to continue the
work.

kretprobes
With the goal of merging the shadow stack logic of function graph and
kretprobes, some more restructuring of the function shadow stack is
required.
Move out function graph specific fields from the fgraph infrastructure and
store it on the new stack variables that can pass data from the entry

Hopefully, with this change, the merge of kretprobes to use fgraph shadow

Add an option to show the caller of a function at each entry of the
function graph tracer, similar to what the function tracer does.
- Abstract out ftrace_regs from being used directly like pt_regs
ftrace_regs was created to store a partial pt_regs. It holds only the
registers and stack information to get to the function arguments and
return values. On several archs, it is simply a wrapper around pt_regs.
But some users would access ftrace_regs directly to get the pt_regs which
will not work on all archs. Make ftrace_regs an abstract structure that
requires all access to its fields be through accessor functions.
- Show how long it takes to do function code modifications
When code modification for function hooks happen, it always had the time
recorded in how long it took to do the conversion. But this value was
never exported. Recently the code was touched due to new ROX modification
handling that caused a large slow down in doing the modifications and
had a significant impact on boot times.
Expose the timings in the dyn_ftrace_total_info file. This file was
created a while ago to show information about memory usage and such to
implement dynamic function tracing. It's also an appropriate file to store
the timings of this modification as well. This will make it easier to see
the impact of changes to code modification on boot up timings.

Add an option to show the caller of a function at each entry of the
function graph tracer, similar to what the function tracer does.
- Abstract out ftrace_regs from being used directly like pt_regs
ftrace_regs was created to store a partial pt_regs. It holds only the
registers and stack information to get to the function arguments and
return values. On several archs, it is simply a wrapper around
pt_regs. But some users would access ftrace_regs directly to get the
pt_regs which will not work on all archs. Make ftrace_regs an
abstract structure that requires all access to its fields be through
accessor functions.
- Show how long it takes to do function code modifications
When code modification for function hooks happen, it always had the
time recorded in how long it took to do the conversion. But this
value was never exported. Recently the code was touched due to new
ROX modification handling that caused a large slow down in doing the
modifications and had a significant impact on boot times.
Expose the timings in the dyn_ftrace_total_info file. This file was
created a while ago to show information about memory usage and such
to implement dynamic function tracing. It's also an appropriate file
to store the timings of this modification as well. This will make it
easier to see the impact of changes to code modification on boot up
timings.

Aside of that VDSO data has become a dump ground for various mechanisms
and fail to provide a clear separation of the functionalities.
Clean this up by:

specific warts especially in x86 and PowerPC.
* removing the last includes of header files which are pulling in other
headers outside of the VDSO namespace.

Since gcc supports flag out operands for inline assemblies there is always
the question when this feature should be used and if it is worth all the
ifdefs that come with that.
In order to avoid that provide similar macros like x86 which can be used
for all inline assemblies which extract the condition code. Depending on
compiler features the generated code will either always contain an ipm+srl
instruction pair, which extracts the condition code, or alternatively let
the compiler handle this completely.

try_cmpxchg128() variants provide slightly better code, if compiled
with gcc 14 or newer.

implementation by mapping it to arch_cmpxchg128().

Get rid of the arch_xchg() inline assemblies by converting the inline
assemblies to C functions which make use of arch_try_cmpxchg().
With flag output operand support the generated code is at least as good as
the previous version. Without it is slightly worse, however getting rid of
all the inline assembly code is worth it.
