The Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies QDF2400 family of SoCs contains a
custom (non-PrimeCell) implementation of the SBSA UART. Occasionally the
BUSY bit in the Flag Register gets stuck as 1, erratum 44 for both 2432v1
and 2400v1 SoCs.Checking that the Transmit FIFO Empty (TXFE) bit is 0,
instead of checking that the BUSY bit is 1, works around the issue.
To facilitate this substitution of flags and values, introduce
vendor-specific inversion of Feature Register bits when UART AMBA Port
(UAP) data is available. For the earlycon case, prior to UAP availability,
implement alternative putc and early_write functions.
Similar to what how ARMv8 ACPI PCI quirks are detected during MCFG parsing,
check the OEM fields of the Serial Port Console Redirection (SPCR) ACPI
table to determine if the current platform is known to be affected by the
erratum.

The fractional baud rate generator is available when using the
asynchronous mode of Atmel USART controllers. It makes it possible to
use higher baudrates, in exchange for a less precise clock with a
variable duty cycle.
The existing code restricts its use to the normal mode of the USART
controller, following the recommendation from the datasheet for the
first chip embedding this type of controller. This recommendation has
been removed from the documentation for the newer chips. After
verification, all revisions of this controller should be able to use the
fractional baud rate generator with the different asynchronous modes.
Removing the condition on ATMEL_US_USMODE makes it possible to get
correct baudrates at high speed in more cases.
This was tested with a board using an Atmel SAMA5D2 chip and a TI
WL1831 WiFi/Bluetooth combo chip at 3 Mbauds, with hardware flow control
enabled.

Those are Exar-based, too.
With the required refactoring of the code to fit into 8250_exar, we
automatically fix the same issue pci_xr17v35x_setup had before: 8XMODE,
FCTL, TXTRG and RXTRG were always only set for port 0. Now they are
initialized for the correct target port by using port.membase.
Now we can also cleanly fix the blacklist of 8250_pci so that all
Commtech devices are rejected and 8250_exar can handle them.

So far, pci_xr17v35x_setup always initialized 8XMODE, FCTR & Co. for
port 0 because it used the address of that port instead of moving the
pointer according to the port number. Fix this and remove the unneeded
temporary ioremap by moving default_setup up and reusing the membase it
fills into the port structure.

When going to suspend, the UART registers may be lost because the power to
VDDcore is cut. This is not an issue in the normal case but when
no_console_suspend is used, we need to restore the registers in order to
get a functional console.

On a Rockchip rk3399-based board during suspend/resume testing, we
found that we could get the console UART into a state where it would
print this to the console a lot:
serial8250: too much work for irq42
Followed eventually by:
NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 11s!
Upon debugging I found that we're in this state:
iir = 0x000000cc
lsr = 0x00000060
It appears that somehow we have a RX Timeout interrupt but there is no
actual data present to receive. When we're in this state the UART
driver claims that it handled the interrupt but it actually doesn't
really do anything. This means that we keep getting the interrupt
over and over again.
Normally we don't actually need to do anything special to handle a RX
Timeout interrupt. We'll notice that there is some data ready and
we'll read it, which will end up clearing the RX Timeout. In this
case we have a problem specifically because we got the RX TImeout
without any data. Reading a bogus byte is confirmed to get us out of
this state.
It's unclear how exactly the UART got into this state, but it is known
that the UART lines are essentially undriven and unpowered during
suspend, so possibly during resume some garbage / half transmitted
bits are seen on the line and put the UART into this state.
The UART on the rk3399 is a DesignWare based 8250 UART. From mailing
list posts, it appears that other people have run into similar
problems with DesignWare based IP. Presumably this problem is unique
to that IP, so I have placed the workaround there to avoid possibly of
accidentally triggering bad behavior on other IP. Also note the RX
Timeout behaves very differently in the DMA case, for for now the
workaround is only applied to the non-DMA case.

When hardware flow-control is disabled, manual toggling of the UART's
reset line (RTS) using userland applications (e.g. stty) is not
possible, since the ASC IP does not provide this functionality in the
same was as some other IPs do. Thus, we have to do this manually.
This patch ensures that when HW flow-control is disabled the RTS/CTS
lines are free to be registered via the GPIO API. It also ensures
any registered GPIO lines are unregistered when HW flow-control is
requested, allowing the IP to control them automatically.

There are now 2 possible separate/different Pinctrl states which can
be provided from platform data. One which encompasses the lines
required for HW flow-control (CTS/RTS) and another which does not
specify these lines, such that they can be used via GPIO mechanisms
for manually toggling (i.e. from a request by `stty`).

Until this point, it has not been possible for userland serial
applications (e.g. stty) to toggle the UART RTS line. This can
be useful with certain configurations. For example, when using
a Mezzanine on a Linaro 96board, RTS line is used to take the
on-board microcontroller in and out of reset.

The MKS Instruments SCOM-0800 and SCOM-0801 cards (originally by Tenta
Technologies) are 3U CompactPCI serial cards with 4 and 8 serial ports,
respectively. The first 4 ports are implemented by an OX16PCI954 chip,
and the second 4 ports are implemented by an OX16C954 chip on a local
bus, bridged by the second PCI function of the OX16PCI954. The ports
are jumper-selectable as RS-232 and RS-422/485, and the UARTs use a
non-standard oscillator frequency of 20 MHz (base_baud = 1250000).

Implements support for FIFO fill thresholds greater than one with software
timeout.
This mechanism is not possible (or at least not useful) on SCIF family
hardware other than SCIFA and SCIFB because they do not support turning off
the DR hardware timeout interrupt separately from the RI interrupt.

To allow operation with a higher RX FIFO interrupt threshold in PIO
mode, it is necessary to consider the DR bit ("FIFO not full, but no
data received for 1.5 frames") as an indicator that data can be read.
Otherwise the driver will let data rot in the FIFO until the threshold
is reached.

Commit c7cef0a849 ("console: Add extensible console matching") added
match() method to struct console which allows the console to perform
console command line matching instead of (or in addition to) default
console matching (ie., by fixed name and index).
Commit ad1696f6f0 ("ACPI: parse SPCR and enable matching console")
introduced support for SPCR as matching console.
Commit 10879ae5f1 ("serial: pl011: add console matching function")
added the match method for pl011 console which checks for the console
string to be "pl011"
Now on a platform which has both SPCR in the ACPI tables and ttyAMA in
the command line, the ttyAMA is chosen as "selected console" but it
doesn't pass the matching console method which results in CON_CONSDEV
not being set on the "selected console".
As a result of that, the bootconsole(SPCR in the above case) is not
unregistered and all the beginning boot messages are seen twice.
This patch adds "ttyAMA" so that it's considered to match pl011 console.

When userspace passes the SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND flag it means that the
CTS_B pin should go to logic level high before the transmission begins.
CTS_B goes to logic level high when both CTSC and CTS bits are cleared.
When userspace passes the SER_RS485_RTS_AFTER_SEND flag it means that the
CTS_B pin should go to logic level low after the transmission finishes.
CTS_B goes to logic level low when CTSC bit is cleared and CTS bit is set.
So fix the CTS_B polarity logic.

On a board that needs to drive RTS GPIO high in order to enable the
transmission of a RS485 transceiver the following description is
passed in the devide tree:

When the SER_RS485_RTS_ON_SEND flag is set the imx_port_rts_active()
function should be called and following the same logic when
SER_RS485_RTS_AFTER_SEND flag is cleared the imx_port_rts_inactive()
should be called.
Do such logic change so that RS485 communication in half duplex can
work successfully when the RTS GPIO pin is passed via device tree.

During build testing, I ran into a warning in a driver that I
had written myself at some point:
drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_of.c: In function 'of_platform_serial_probe':
drivers/tty/serial/8250/8250_of.c:233:1: error: the frame size of 1200 bytes is larger than 1152 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=]
This is harmless by itself, but it shows two other problems in
the driver:
- It still tries to be generic enough to handle all kinds of serial
ports, where in reality the driver has been 8250-only for a while,
and every other uart has its own DT support
- As a result of that generalization, we keep two copies of
'struct uart_port' on the stack during probe(). This is completely
unnessary.
Removing the last code dealing with unsupported port_type values
solves both problems nicely, and reduces the stack size.

As the function header of sci_parse_dt() is split in an unusual way,
"git diff" gets confused when changes to the body of the function are
made, and attributes them to the wrong function.

Otherwise the interconnect related code implementing PM runtime will
produce these errors on a failed probe:

Currently this warning is triggered for allmodconfig on m68k. It is
well intentioned, in that if you are building the driver but not
enabling one of the platforms where the hardware exists, you get a
warning.
The warning dates back to pre-git days, and now we have COMPILE_TEST
so we can use that to mask the warning for people who are obviously
just doing build coverage on tree wide changes.

This patch adds xilinx uart loopback support by modifying the
cdns_uart_set_mctrl function to handle the switch to loopback mode.
After this patch, the loopback mode can be enabled/disabled by
setting/clearing the TIOCM_LOOP modem bit via TIOCMBIS/TIOCMBIC
ioctls respectively.

8250 UART DMA support was marked broken by default as it was not
possible to pause ongoing RX DMA transfer. Now that both SDMA and
EDMA can support pause operation for RX DMA transactions, don't set
rx_dma_broken to true by default. With this patch 8250_omap driver will
use DMA by default.

UART uses as EDMA as dma engine on AM437x SoC and therefore, requires
OMAP_DMA_TX_KICK quirk just like AM33xx. So, enable OMAP_DMA_TX_KICK
quirk for AM437x platform as well. While at that, drop use of
of_machine_is_compatible() and instead pass quirks via device data.

It is possible that DMA transfer is already complete but, completion
handler is yet to be called, when dmaengine_pause() is called in case of
error condition(like break/rx timeout). This leads to dmaengine_pause()
API to return EINVAL (as descriptor is already NULL) causing
rx_dma_broken flag to be set and effectively disabling RX DMA.
Fix this by calling dmaengine_pause() only when transfer is in progress.

The vendor driver allows setting baud-rates higher than 115200 baud.
There is a check in the vendor driver which prevents using more than
115200 baud during startup, however it does not have such a check in
.set_termios.
Higher baud-rates are often used by the bluetooth modules embedded into
the SDIO wifi chips (Amlogic devices use brcmfmac based wifi chips quite
often, 2000000 baud seems to be a common value for the UART baud-rate in
Amlogic's "libbt").
I have tested this on a Meson GXL device with uart_A (to which the
bluetooth module is connected, where initialization times out with
115200 baud) and uart_AO (which I manually set to 2000000 baud and then
connected with my USB UART adapter to that).

Add DT earlycon for omap_serial driver. This boot console is included
with CONFIG_SERIAL_EARLYCON=y, CONFIG_OF=y, CONFIG_SERIAL_OMAP=y, and
CONFIG_OF_EARLY_FLATTREE=y.
This boot console is enabled with the command line option "earlycon"
(without "=<name>...") when the DT 'stdout-path' property matches a
compatible uart.

to enable printk() during CPU hot-plugging.
Actually most of the serial console drivers do not use per-cpu resources
and can be marked as CON_ANYTIME.

Declare dev_pm_ops structures as const as they are only stored in the pm
field of a device_driver structure. This field is of type const, so
dev_pm_ops structures having similar properties can be declared const
too.

There is no need to set PCI bus mastering when device is not doing any DMA. It
includes MSI type of interrupts. Currently only UART on Denverton, which is DMA
capable, might have MSI enabled.
Taking above into account enable bus mastering for Denverton case only.

In the most common use case, the Synopsys DW UART driver does not
set the set_termios callback function. This prevents UPSTAT_AUTOCTS
from being set when the UART flag CRTSCTS is set. As a result, the
driver will use software flow control as opposed to hardware flow
control.
To fix the problem, the set_termios callback function is set to the
DW specific function. The logic to set UPSTAT_AUTOCTS is moved so
that any clock error will not affect setting the hardware flow
control.

SCI instances found in SH SoCs have different spacing between registers
depending on the SoC. The platform data contains a regshift field that
tells the driver by how many bits to shift the register offset to
compute its address. We can compute the regshift value automatically
based on the memory resource size, there's no need to pass the value
through platform data.
Fix the sh7750 SCI and sh7760 SIM port memory resources length to ensure
proper computation of the regshift value.

The sh-sci driver implements manual break debouncing for a few SH
platforms by reading the value of the RX pin port register. This feature
is optional and the driver considers all negative or zero values of the
platform data port_reg field as invalid. As the four platforms that set
the field to a register address all use an address higher than
0x7fffffff, the driver will always consider the value as invalid and
never perform debouncing. The feature is unused, remove it.
Debouncing could be implemented properly in the future using the pinctrl
and GPIO APIs if desired.

Even though most of its registers are 8-bit wide, the IRDA has two
16-bit registers that make it a 16-bit peripheral and not a 8-bit
peripheral with addresses shifted by one. Fix the registers offset in
the driver and the platform data regshift value.

The UPF_BOOT_AUTOCONF platform data flag is set by all platforms,
hardcode it.
The UPF_IOREMAP flag is set by a single SH platform and thus needs to be
kept. However, for ARM platforms, we can base the decision on whether an
OF node is present and bypass the platform data flags completely.

This adds a new UART port type for TI DA8xx/OMAPL13x/AM17xx/AM18xx/66AK2x.
These SoCs have standard 8250 registers plus some extra non-standard
registers.
The UART will not function unless the non-standard Power and Emulation
Management Register (PWREMU_MGMT) is configured correctly. This is
currently handled in arch/arm/mach-davinci/serial.c for non-device-tree
boards. Making this part of the UART driver will allow UART to work on
device-tree boards as well and the mach code can eventually be removed.

Hiding tristate options with "if EXPERT" is usually not a good idea.
You can decide that the driver should be included by default, but you
don't know if the user wants it built-in or as a module. Hiding the
option prevents the user from making that decision.
This is even more problematic when said option selects other options.
You end up with several device drivers forcibly built into the kernel.
In this specific case, drivers 8250_mid, virt-dma, hsu_dma and
hsu_dma_pci end up being built-in as soon as SERIAL_8250=y. It is
very common for distribution kernels to build the subsystem core code
into the kernel, because almost everybody will need it, but build all
the device drivers as modules. This should be made possible.
So drop the "if EXPERT" and make SERIAL_8250_MID visible.

With CONFIG_DYNAMIC_DEBUG if dyndbg enables debug output in
8250_port.c deadlock happens inevitably on UART IRQ handling.

According to Documentation/devicetree/bindings/serial/serial.txt the
generic 'rts-gpios' property can be used to specify the GPIO for RTS
functionality.
Currently it is not possible to use the imx UART port in rs485 mode when
the 'rts-gpios' property is passed in the device tree.
The imx uart driver only checks for the presence of the built-in RTS pin,
via 'uart-has-rtscts' property and disable the rs485 flag if this property
is absent.
So fix this logic by also checking if RTS pin has been passed via GPIO.

If the driver is built as a module, autoload won't work because the module
alias information is not filled. So user-space can't match the registered
device with the corresponding module.
Export the module alias information using the MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE() macro.

Add resource type check for Fintek F81504/508/512, BAR3/4/5 must be
IORESOURCE_IO.
Fintek is trying to make F81504/508/512 works on MMIO interface, but
it's still in progress. We found some issue when the experiment IC
when the BAR3/4/5 is IORESOURCE_MEM. It'll cause wrong operation with
IO resource. So we'll add the resource check for this.

This allows enabling earlycon for devices with a Lantiq serial console
by splitting lqasc_serial_port_write() from lqasc_console_write() and
re-using the new function for earlycon's write callback.
The kernel-parameter name matches the driver name ("lantiq"), similar
to how other drivers implement this.

dma_request_slave_channel_compat() requires filter function and mask, which
are not needed on device tree based platforms, so simplify the code by
calling the more appropriate dma_request_chan() function. This additionally
gives us proper error handling, because the new function returns error
codes instead of NULL on failure.

Problem found via lockdep:
- lpuart_set_termios() calls del_timer_sync(&sport->lpuart_timer) while
holding sport->port.lock
- sport->lpuart_timer routine is lpuart_timer_func() that calls
lpuart_copy_rx_to_tty() that acquires same lock.
To fix, move Rx DMA stopping out of lock, as it already is in other places
in the same file.
While at it, also make Rx DMA start/stop code to look the same is in
other places in the same file.

When the call to kasprintf() returns a NULL pointer, function
sci_request_irq() frees the preallocated memory and returns 0 is
returned. Because 0 means no error, the caller of sci_request_irq()
will keep going, and the freed memory may be used or freed again. To
avoid the above issue, this patch assigns "-ENOMEM" to the return
variable ret.

This commit needs to be reverted because it prevents people from
using the serial console as a secondary console with input being
directed to tty0.
IOW, if you boot with console=ttyS0 console=tty0 then all kernels
prior to this commit will produce output on both ttyS0 and tty0
but input will only be taken from tty0. With this patch the serial
console will always be the primary console instead of tty0,
potentially preventing people from getting into their machines in
emergency situations.

When in RS485 emulation mode, __do_stop_tx_rs485() calls
serial8250_clear_fifos(). This not only clears the FIFOs, but also sets
all bits in their control register (UART_FCR) to 0.
One of the effects of this is the disabling of the FIFOs, which turns
them into single-byte holding registers. The rest of the driver doesn't
know this, which results in the lions share of characters passed into a
write call to be dropped.
(I can supply logic analyzer screenshots if necessary)
This fix replaces the serial8250_clear_fifos() call to
serial8250_clear_and_reinit_fifos() - this prevents the "dropped
characters" issue from manifesting again while retaining the requirement
of clearing the RX FIFO after transmission if the SER_RS485_RX_DURING_TX
flag is disabled.

Commit f209fa03fc ("serial: 8250_pci: Detach low-level driver during
PCI error recovery") introduces a potential use-after-free in case the
pciserial_init_ports call in serial8250_io_resume fails, which may
happen if a memory allocation fails or if the .init quirk failed for
whatever reason). If this happen, further pci_get_drvdata will return a
pointer to freed memory.
This patch reworks the PCI recovery resume hook to restore the old priv
structure in this case, which should be ok, since the ports were already

When using RS485 in half duplex, RX should be enabled when TX is
finished, and stopped when TX starts.
Before commit 0058f0871e ("tty/serial: atmel: fix RS485 half
duplex with DMA"), RX was not disabled in atmel_start_tx() if the DMA
was used. So, collisions could happened.
But disabling RX in atmel_start_tx() uncovered another bug:
RX was enabled again in the wrong place (in atmel_tx_dma) instead of
being enabled when TX is finished (in atmel_complete_tx_dma), so the
transmission simply stopped.
This bug was not triggered before commit 0058f0871e
("tty/serial: atmel: fix RS485 half duplex with DMA") because RX was
never disabled before.
Moving atmel_start_rx() in atmel_complete_tx_dma() corrects the problem.

If we don't disable the transmitter in atmel_stop_tx, the DMA buffer
continues to send data until it is emptied.
This cause problems with the flow control (CTS is asserted and data are
still sent).
So, disabling the transmitter in atmel_stop_tx is a sane thing to do.
Tested on at91sam9g35-cm(DMA)
Tested for regressions on sama5d2-xplained(Fifo) and at91sam9g20ek(PDC)

This happens when the 8250 serial controller is hotplugged as follows:

This trace happens due to the serial port still holding a reference when
the dma device is unregistered.
The dma unregister routine will check if there is still a reference exist,
if so it will give the WARNING(here serial port still was not unregister).
To fix this, We need to unregister the serial port first, then do DMA
device unregister to make sure there is no reference when to DMA routine.

Several versions of DW DMAC have multi block transfers hardware
support. Hardware support of multi block transfers is disabled
by default if we use DT to configure DMAC and software emulation
of multi block transfers used instead.
Add multi-block property, so it is possible to enable hardware
multi block transfers (if present) via DT.
Switch from per device is_nollp variable to multi_block array
to be able enable/disable multi block transfers separately per
channel.

During a PCI error recovery, like the ones provoked by EEH in the ppc64
platform, all IO to the device must be blocked while the recovery is
completed. Current 8250_pci implementation only suspends the port
instead of detaching it, which doesn't prevent incoming accesses like
TIOCMGET and TIOCMSET calls from reaching the device. Those end up
racing with the EEH recovery, crashing it. Similar races were also
observed when opening the device and when shutting it down during
recovery.
This patch implements a more robust IO blockage for the 8250_pci
recovery by unregistering the port at the beginning of the procedure and
re-adding it afterwards. Since the port is detached from the uart
layer, we can be sure that no request will make through to the device
during recovery. This is similar to the solution used by the JSM serial
driver.

The mxs-auart driver does not count FIFO overrun errors. These errors never
appear in /proc/tty/driver/ttyAPP. This is because the OERR status bit is
masked by read_status_mask in the rx interrupt function, but the
AUART_STAT_OERR bit is never set in read_status_mask. The patch enables the
counting of overrun errors.

When any 8250 based driver sets up DMA and has UART_CAP_RPM capability enabled
the device is left powered on after transfer is done. We need to schedule a
device suspend operation when DMA completes the transfer.
The patch is based on the work done by the reporter.

Inside ioc4_attach_local() 4 memory was allocated using kzalloc and
assign it to ports[] within loop. When kzalloc fails inside loop,
it returns error without freeing previously allocated memory and we
may have memory leak. Fix this by freeing ports[] before return.

An otherwise very nice cleanup of the pxa2xx uart support marked the
init function of this driver as __deprecated:

below patch to fix Fourth port offset of Percom PI7C9X7954 boards.
I had a problem using Fourth port on a pci express serial board based on Pericom
PI7C9X7954. Reading datasheet I notice a "special" offset assign to this port
when used in I/O mode.
Offset 0x0 -> UART 0
Offset 0x8 -> UART 1
Offset 0x10 -> UART 2
Offset 0x38 -> UART 3 <<---- This don't follow a logical sequence
This patch add a different init to last port, to have right offset.
I check also Pericom 7952 and 7958 but that devices follow logical sequence,
so they are ok.

The Kconfig currently controlling compilation of this code is:

fails to build if the 8250 console is disabled:

The hardware book says, the FCR is combined with a register called
CHAR (it will trigger interrupt when a specific character is
received). At first, I used lock/read/modify/write/unlock dance for
the FCR to not affect the upper bits, but the CHAR is actually never
used. It should not hurt to always clear the CHAR and to handle the
FCR as a normal case. It can save the costly locking.

For this driver, uart_port::regshift is always 2. Hardcode the
shift value instead of reading ->regshift to get an already known
value. (pointed out by Denys Vlasenko)
Furthermore, I am using register macros that are already shifted,
which will save code a bit.

The port->console flag is always false, as uart_console() is called
before the serial console has been registered.
Hence for a serial port used as the console, uart_tty_port_shutdown()
will still be called when userspace closes the port, powering it down.
This may lead to a system lock up when the serial console driver writes
to the serial port's registers.
To fix this, move the setting of port->console after the call to
uart_configure_port(), which registers the serial console.

After commit 1cf6e8fc83 ("tty/serial: at91: fix RTS line management
when hardware handshake is enabled"), the hardware handshake wasn't
functional anymore on Atmel platforms (beside SAMA5D2).
To understand why, one has to understand the flag ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS
first:
Before commit 1cf6e8fc83 ("tty/serial: at91: fix RTS line management
when hardware handshake is enabled"), this flag was never set.
Thus, the CTS/RTS where only handled by serial_core (and everything
worked just fine).
This commit introduced the use of the ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS flag,
enabling it for all boards when the user space enables flow control.
When the ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS is set, the Atmel USART controller
handles a part of the flow control job:
- disable the transmitter when the CTS pin gets high.
- drive the RTS pin high when the DMA buffer transfer is completed or
PDC RX buffer full or RX FIFO is beyond threshold. (depending on the
controller version).
NB: This feature is *not* mandatory for the flow control to work.
(Nevertheless, it's very useful if low latencies are needed.)
Now, the specifics of the ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS flag:
- For platforms with DMAC and no FIFOs (sam9x25, sam9x35, sama5D3,
sama5D4, sam9g15, sam9g25, sam9g35)* this feature simply doesn't work.

or a new DMA transfer descriptor is set.
=> ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS must not be used for those platforms
- For platforms with a PDC (sam926{0,1,3}, sam9g10, sam9g20, sam9g45,
sam9g46)*, there's another kind of problem. Once the flag
ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS is set, the RTS pin can't be driven anymore via
RTSEN/RTSDIS in USART Control Register. The RTS pin can only be driven
by enabling/disabling the receiver or setting RCR=RNCR=0 in the PDC
(Receive (Next) Counter Register).
=> Doing this is beyond the scope of this patch and could add other
bugs, so the original (and working) behaviour should be set for those
platforms (meaning ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS flag should be unset).
- For platforms with a FIFO (sama5d2)*, the RTS pin is driven according
to the RX FIFO thresholds, and can be also driven by RTSEN/RTSDIS in
USART Control Register. No problem here.
(This was the use case of commit 1cf6e8fc83 ("tty/serial: at91: fix
RTS line management when hardware handshake is enabled"))
NB: If the CTS pin declared as a GPIO in the DTS, (for instance
cts-gpios = <&pioA PIN_PB31 GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW>), the transmitter will be
disabled.
=> ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS flag can be set for this platform ONLY IF the
CTS pin is not a GPIO.
So, the only case when ATMEL_US_USMODE_HWHS can be enabled is when
(atmel_use_fifo(port) &&
!mctrl_gpio_to_gpiod(atmel_port->gpios, UART_GPIO_CTS))
Tested on all Atmel USART controller flavours:
AT91SAM9G35-CM (DMAC flavour), AT91SAM9G20-EK (PDC flavour),
SAMA5D2xplained (FIFO flavour).

The regmap_update first reads the IOState register and then triggers
a write if needed. However, GPIOS might be configured as an input so
the read to IOState on this GPIO is the current state which might
be random.

In the case where head == 0 on the circular buffer, there should be one
DMA buffer, not two. The second zero-length buffer would break the
lpuart driver, transfer would never complete.

The Fintek F81216H had maximum 128Bytes FIFO, but some BIOS configurated
as normal 16Bytes FIFO. This patch will set 128Bytes FIFO and trigger
level multiplier as 4x when F81216H detected.
Default 16550A trigger level is 8Bytes. When this patch applied, the
trigger level will change to 8Byte x 4 = 32Byte. It can be reduce the RX
incoming interrupts.

Set IRQ Mode when port probed in probe_setup_port()
It should hold the IO port premission via fintek_8250_enter_key() and
release via fintek_8250_exit_key() when we configure the SuperIO.
This patch will move all SuperIO configure operations to
probe_setup_port() to reduce fintek_8250_enter_key() and
fintek_8250_exit_key() usage.

If we need to access SuperIO registers, It should write register offset
to base_addr and read/write value to base_addr + 1 to perform read/write.
We can make it more simply with write/read functions.
This patch add sio_read_reg()/sio_write_reg()/sio_write_mask_reg() to
reduce SuperIO register operation with lot of outb()/inb().

Transfer the device-tree pxa uart handling from 8250_of to the new
8250_pxa. As a corollary, add the early console definition into
8250_pxa.
This enables to have the same uart node for the early console and the
normal uart.

The use of IRQF_ONESHOT when registering an interrupt handler with
request_irq() is non-sensical.
Not only that, it also prevents the handler from being threaded when it
otherwise should be w/ IRQ_FORCED_THREADING is enabled. This causes the

There is no need to set PCI bus mastering when device is not doing any DMA.
Though on Intel Quark DMA is a part of UART IP and thus shares same device in
Linux kernel.

fsl_lpuart cannot be used with kgdb because the kgdb
initcall is called before the driver's init.

This patch adds function pl011_console_match() that implements
method match of struct console. It allows to match consoles against
data specified in a string, for example taken from command line or
compiled by ACPI SPCR table handler.
This patch was merged to tty-next but then reverted because of
conflict with
commit 46e36683f4 ("serial: earlycon: Extend earlycon command line option to support 64-bit addresses")
Now it is fixed.

The commit 4fe0d15488 ("PCI: Use positive flags in pci_alloc_irq_vectors()")
replaces flags from negative to positive values which makes mandatory to have
the last argument in pci_alloc_irq_vectors() non-zero (if we want to be no-op).
This basically drops MSI enabling in 8250_lpss driver.
Restore desired behaviour in 8250_lpss by passing PCI_IRQ_ALL_TYPES instead of
0 to pci_alloc_irq_vectors().

pxa2xx-uart was a separate uart platform driver. It was declaring
the same device names and numbers as 8250 driver. As a result,
it was impossible to use 8250 driver on PXA SoCs.
Upon closer examination pxa2xx-uart turned out to be a clone of
8250_core driver.
Workaround for Erratum #19 according to Marvel(R) PXA270M Processor
Specification Update (April 19, 2010) is dropped. 8250_core reads
from FIFO immediately after checking DR bit in LSR.
The patch leaves the original SERIAL_PXA driver around. The original
driver is just marked DEPRECATED in Kconfig and C source. When
the original driver is considered safe to remove, no changes
to SERIAL_8250 will be necessary.
Compiling SERIAL_8250_CONSOLE and SERIAL_PXA_CONSOLE even without
SERIAL_8250_PXA breaks console for SERIAL_PXA. For this reasons, the new
and the original drivers are made mutually exclusive.

Commit 761ed4a945 ('tty: serial_core: convert uart_close to use
tty_port_close') started setting the ttyport console flag for serial
drivers. This is causing crashes, hangs, or garbage output on several
platforms because the serial shutdown is skipped and IRQs are left
enabled.
Partially revert commit 761ed4a945 and drop reporting UART tty_ports
as a console leaving the console handling to the serial_core as it was
before.

A good practice is to prefix the names of functions by the name
of the subsystem.
The kthread worker API is a mix of classic kthreads and workqueues. Each
worker has a dedicated kthread. It runs a generic function that process
queued works. It is implemented as part of the kthread subsystem.
This patch renames the existing kthread worker API to use
the corresponding name from the workqueues API prefixed by
kthread_:
__init_kthread_worker() -> __kthread_init_worker()
init_kthread_worker() -> kthread_init_worker()
init_kthread_work() -> kthread_init_work()
insert_kthread_work() -> kthread_insert_work()
queue_kthread_work() -> kthread_queue_work()
flush_kthread_work() -> kthread_flush_work()
flush_kthread_worker() -> kthread_flush_worker()
Note that the names of DEFINE_KTHREAD_WORK*() macros stay
as they are. It is common that the "DEFINE_" prefix has
precedence over the subsystem names.
Note that INIT() macros and init() functions use different
naming scheme. There is no good solution. There are several
reasons for this solution:
+ "init" in the function names stands for the verb "initialize"
aka "initialize worker". While "INIT" in the macro names
stands for the noun "INITIALIZER" aka "worker initializer".
+ INIT() macros are used only in DEFINE() macros
+ init() functions are used close to the other kthread()
functions. It looks much better if all the functions
use the same scheme.
+ There will be also kthread_destroy_worker() that will
be used close to kthread_cancel_work(). It is related
to the init() function. Again it looks better if all
functions use the same naming scheme.
+ there are several precedents for such init() function
names, e.g. amd_iommu_init_device(), free_area_init_node(),
jump_label_init_type(), regmap_init_mmio_clk(),
+ It is not an argument but it was inconsistent even before.

This patch adds function pl011_console_match() that implements
method match of struct console. It allows to match consoles against
data specified in a string, for example taken from command line or
compiled by ACPI SPCR table handler.

'ARM Server Base Boot Requiremets' [1] mentions SPCR (Serial Port
Console Redirection Table) [2] as a mandatory ACPI table that
specifies the configuration of serial console.
Defer initialization of DT earlycon until ACPI/DT decision is made.
Parse the ACPI SPCR table, setup earlycon if required,
enable specified console.
Thanks to Peter Hurley for explaining how this should work.

We have multiple "earlycon" early_param handlers - merge the DT one into
the main earlycon one. It's a cleanup that also will be useful
to defer setting up DT console until ACPI/DT decision is made.
Rename the exported function to avoid clashing with the function from
arch/microblaze/kernel/prom.c

The Altera 16550 soft IP UART requires 2 additional registers for
TX FIFO threshold support. These 2 registers enable the TX FIFO
Low Watermark and set the TX FIFO Low Watermark.
Set the TX FIFO threshold to the FIFO size - tx_loadsz.

Initialize the tx_loadsz parameter from passed in devicetree
tx-threshold parameter.
The tx_loadsz is calculated as the number of bytes to fill FIFO

The USR2_DCDIN bit is tested for in register usr1. As the name
suggests the usr2 register should be used instead. This fixes

Add initialisation of control register and baud rate to
cdns_early_console_setup(), required when running kernel standalone
without a boot loader. Baud rate is only initialised when specified in
earlycon command-line option, otherwise it is assumed this has been
set by a boot loader. Updated Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt
accordingly.

The existing interrupt handling logic has following issues.
- Upon a parity error with default configuration, the control
never comes out of the ISR thereby hanging Linux.
- The error handling logic around framing and parity error are buggy.
There are chances that the errors will never be captured.
This patch ensures that the status registers are cleared on all cases so
that a hang situation never arises.

Building this driver with a 64-bit dma_addr_t type results in
a compiler warning:

While the type conversion here is harmless, this hints at a different
problem: we pass an __iomem pointer into a DMA engine, which expects
a phys_addr_t. This happens to work because stm32 has no MMU and
ioremap() is an identity mapping here, but it's still an incorrect
API use. Using dma_addr_t is doubly wrong here, because that would
be the result of dma_map_single() rather than the physical address.
Using the mapbase instead fixes multiple issues:
- the warning is gone
- we don't go through ioremap in error
- the cast is gone, making it use the correct resource_size_t/phys_addr_t
type in the process.

The patch makes changes not to enable parity error interrupt.
With the current implementation, each parity error results in
two distinct interrupts (almost always). The first one is normal
parity error interrupt with no data in the fifo and the second one
is a proper Rx interrupt with the received data in the fifo. By
disabling parity error interrupt we still ensure handling of
parity errors as for the Rx fifo interrupt the parity error still
shows up in the interrupt status register. Considering the fact
that the by default INPCK and IGNPAR are not set, this is the
optimal implementation for parity error handling.

Commit 0e125a5fac ("tty: amba-pl011: define flag register bits for ZTE
device") changes earlycon function pl011_putc() to use a pointer to
uart_amba_port. This causes a regression when earlycon is enabled,
because uart_amba_port is not available yet at earlycon time. Let's
revert the change on pl011_putc() to fix the regression.
The earlycon support for ZTE device can probably be added later by
declaring a new earlycon setup function with a vendor specific
compatible.

Since commit 18dfef9c7f ("serial: atmel: convert to irq handling
provided mctrl-gpio"), interrupts from GPIOs are not disabled any more
when the serial port is closed, leading to an oops when the one of the
input pin is toggled (CTS/DSR/DCD/RNG).
This is only the case if those pins are used as GPIOs, i.e. declared
like that:

That's because modem interrupts used to be freed in atmel_shutdown().
After commit 18dfef9c7f ("serial: atmel: convert to irq handling
provided mctrl-gpio"), this code was just removed.
Calling atmel_disable_ms() disables the interrupts and everything works
fine again.
Tested on at91sam9g35-cm
(This patch doesn't apply on -stable kernels, fixes for 4.4 and 4.7 will
be sent after this one is applied.)

Guenter Roeck reported a regression caused by commit "serial: earlycon:
Extend earlycon command line option to support 64-bit addresses":
console= and earlycon= options have the following format:
...,<addr>,<options>
Historically used here simple_strtoul() had no problems with comma, but the
new and recommended kstrtoull() requires null-terminated string and returns
-EINVAL in case there are "options" at the end. There is no recommended to
use function currently that will support it, so stick to obsolete
simple_strtoull() variant.

Some functions called by serial_imx_probe emit an error message themself
(like kmalloc() and friends). clk_prepare_enable() and
devm_request_irq() however don't which might make the driver silently
fail to probe. So add an error message for these.

Since we have nice macro IRQ_RETVAL() we would use it to convert a flag of
handled interrupt from int to irqreturn_t.
The rationale of doing this is:
a) hence we implicitly mark hsu_dma_do_irq() as an auxiliary function that
can't be used as interrupt handler directly, and
b) to be in align with serial driver which is using serial8250_handle_irq()
that returns plain int by design.

earlycon implementation used "unsigned long" internally, but there are systems
(ARM with LPAE) where sizeof(unsigned long) == 4 and uart is mapped beyond 4GiB
address range.
Switch to resource_size_t internally and replace obsoleted simple_strtoul() with
kstrtoull().

There are calls to serial8250_rpm_{get|put}() in __do_stop_tx_rs485() that are
certainly placed in a wrong location. I dunno how it had been tested with
runtime PM enabled because it is obvious "sleep in atomic context" error.
Besides that serial8250_rpm_get() is called immediately after an IO just
happened. It implies that the device is already powered on, see implementation
of serial8250_em485_rts_after_send() and serial8250_clear_fifos() for the
details.
There is no bug have been seen due to, as I can guess, use of auto suspend mode
when scheduled transaction to suspend is invoked quite lately than it's needed
for a few writes to the port. It might be possible to trigger a warning if
stop_tx_timer fires when device is suspended.
Refactor the code to use runtime PM only in case of timer function.

The UART DMA was only being configured on i.MX6Q compatible devices. We
know that the DMA also works for i.MX53 devices, so enable uart DMA for
imx53 and let the device tree to configure if DMA should be used or not.

The APM X-Gene SoC UART is the only board that still needs
the hard-coded values, so handle it separately in
dw8250_quirks(). The other ACPI platforms are able to
provide the values with device properties.

The IMX UART has a 32 bytes HW buffer which can be filled up in
2777us at 115200 baud or 80us at 4Mbaud (supported by IMX53).
Taking this in consideration there is a good probability to lose
data because of the DMA startup latency.
Our tests (explained below) indicates a latency up to 4400us when
creating interrupt load and ~70us without. When creating interrupt
load I was able to see continuous overrun errors by checking serial
driver statistics using the command:
`cat /proc/tty/driver/IMX-uart`.
Replace manual restart of DMA with cyclic DMA to eliminate data loss
due to DMA engine startup latency (similar approch to atmel_serial.c
driver). As result the DMA engine will start on the first serial data
transfer and stops only when serial port is closed.
Tests environment:
Using the m53evk board I have used a GPIO for profiling the IMX
serial driver.
- The RX line and GPIO were connected to oscilloscope.
- Run a small test program on the m53evk board that will only open
and read data from ttymxc2 port.
- Connect the ttymxc2 port to my laptop using a USB serial converter
where another test program is running, able to send configurable
packet lengths and intervals.
- Serial ports configured at 115200 8N1.
- Interrupts load created by disconnecting/connecting (3s interval)
a USB hub, using a digital switch, with 4 USB devices (USB-Serial
converter, USB SD card, etc) connected.
(around 160 interrupts/second generated)
- The GPIO was toggled HI in the `imx_int` when USR1_RRDY or USR1_AGTIM
events are received and toggled back, once the DMA configuration
is finalized, at the end of `imx_dma_rxint`.
Measurements:
The measurements were done from the end of the last byte (RX line) until
the GPIO was toggled back LOW.
Note: The GPIO toggling was done using `gpiod_set_value` method.
Tests performed:
1. Sending 9 bytes packets at 8ms interval. Having the 9 bytes packets
will activate the RRDY threshold event and IMX serial interrupt
called.
Results:
- DMA start latency (interrupt start latency +
DMA configuration) consistently 70us when system not loaded.
- DMA start latency up to 4400us when system loaded.
2. Sending 40 bytes packet at 8mS interval.
Results with load:
- Able to observe overruns by running:
`watch -n1 cat /proc/tty/driver/IMX-uart`

The SoCs, such as Intel Braswell, have DesignWare UART IP. Split out the
support of such chips to a separate module which also will be used for Intel
Quark later.
The rationale to have the separate driver to be existing:
- Do not contaminate 8250_pci.c anymore with LPSS related quirks
- All of them are using same DMA engine and they are Designware IP which means
that in the future we might share the code between 8250_dw.c and 8250_lpss.c
- It reduces the kernel memory footprint on non-X86 machines where 8250_pci.c
is in use
Besides the split the driver also has been refactored, in particular a) the DMA
and port setup are separate functions, b) the two new structures lpss8250 and
lpss8250_board are introduced to keep necessary data instead of
pciserial_board, c) DMA parameters are passed to the DMA setup via mentioned
custom structure. Most of the changes are done due to the future support of
UART DMA on Intel Quark.
The Intel Quark UART DMA support is based on bits taking from BSP code
published by Intel earlier.
The driver does not use any specific power management. PCI core takes care of
the default behaviour during suspend and resume.

Intel Quark has 16550A compatible UART with autoflow feature enabled. It has
only 16 bytes of FIFO. Currently serial8250_do_set_termios() prevents to enable
autoflow since the minimum requirement of 32 bytes of FIFO size.
Drop a FIFO size limitation to allow autoflow control be enabled on such UARTs.
While here, comment out UART_CAP_AFE for PORT_AR7 since it wasn't working and
it will be not a good idea to use it in conjunction with trigger level of 1
byte.

Previously sc16is7xx_power was called in order to set the device to a
low power mode.
However since SC16IS7XX_EFR_ENABLE_BIT was not set beforehand this
suspend request had not effect.
Also, soft-reset the device prior to port initialization. It may
otherwise be in a state (interrupt pending, fifo not empty) which
prevents it from sleeping.

Since the commit c1a67b48f6 ("serial: 8250_pci: replace switch-case by
formula for Intel MID"), the 8250 driver crashes in the byt_set_termios()
function with a divide error. This is caused by the fact that a baud rate of 0
(B0) is not handled properly. Fix it by falling back to B9600 in this case.

When DMA mode is enabled one need to make sure the DMA channels are idle before
entering suspend mode especially when UART ports which are set as wakeup source
and console port with no_console_suspend is set. This patch takes care of
gracefully releasing DMA channels for the above two cases and start the DMA at
resume.

The initial approach of DMA implementatin for RX is inefficient due to switching
from PIO to DMA, this leads to overruns especially on instances with the smaller
FIFO. To address these issues this patch uses a cyclic DMA for receiver path.
Some part of the code is borrowed from atmel serial driver.

Commit 8e4934c6d6 ("tty: serial: fsl_lpuart: clear receive flag on FIFO
flush") implemented clearing of the receive flag by reading the status register
only. It turned out that even though we flush the FIFO afterwards, a explicit
read of the data register is still required.
This leads to a FIFO underrun. To avoid this, follow the advice in the overrun
"Operation section": Unconditionally clear RXUF after using RXFLUSH.

Currently the tx_empty callback only considers the Transmit Complete Flag (TC).
The reference manual is not quite clear if the TC flag covers the TX FIFO too.
Debug prints on real hardware have shown that from time to time the TC flag is
asserted (indicating Transmitter idle) while there are still data in the
TX FIFO. Hence, in this case the serial core will call the shutdown callback
even though there are data remaining in the TX FIFO buffers.
Avoid early shutdowns by considering the TX FIFO empty flag too. Also avoid
theoretical race conditions between DMA and the driver by checking whether the
TX DMA is in progress too.

The 2nd parameter of 'find_first_zero_bit' is the number of bits to search.
In this case, we are passing 'sizeof(vt8500_ports_in_use)'.
'vt8500_ports_in_use' is an 'unsigned long'. So the sizeof is likely to
return 4 on a 32 bits kernel.
A few lines below, we check if it is below VT8500_MAX_PORTS, which is 6.
It is likely that the number of bits in a long was expected here.
In order to fix it:
- use DECLARE_BITMAP when declaring the vt8500_ports_in_use
- use VT8500_MAX_PORTS as a maximum value when checking/setting bits in
this bitmap
- modify code now that 'vt8500_ports_in_use' has become a pointer
because of the use of DECLARE_BITMAP

tty_port_close handles much of the common parts of tty close. Convert
uart_close to use it and move the serial_core specific parts into
tty_port.shutdown function. This will be needed to use tty_port functions
directly from in kernel clients.
This change causes ops->stop_rx() to be called after uart_wait_until_sent()
is called which I think should be fine. Otherwise, the sequence of the
close should be the same.

tty_port_open handles much of the common parts of tty opening. Convert
uart_open to use it and move the serial_core specific parts into
tty_port.activate function. This will be needed to use tty_port functions
directly from in kernel clients.
The tricky part is uart_port_startup can return positive values to allow
setserial to configure the port. We now return the positive value to
tty_port_open so that the tty is not marked as initialized and then set the
return value in uart_open to 0.

The Samsung serial driver registered for CPU frequency transitions to
recalculate its clock when ARM clock frequency changes. This is needed
only on S3C24xx platform so limit the ifdef to respective cpufreq
driver.
On S3C24xx the ratio ratio between frequencies of UART's parent clock
(pclk) and ARM's parent clock (fclk) remains fixed. Therefore when ARM
clock frequency goes down, the serial is also affected.

The USART device provides a fractional baud rate generator to get a more
accurate baud rate. It can be used only when the USART is configured in
'normal mode' and this feature is not available on AT91RM9200 SoC.

Serial console is broken in v4.8-rcX. Mika and I independently bisected down to
commit 4ef03d3287 ("tty/serial/8250: use mctrl_gpio helpers").
Since neither author nor anyone else didn't propose a solution we better revert
it for now.

There is no Peripheral Identification Registers on ZTE PL011 device, so
although the driver amba-pl011 is ready to work for ZTE device, the
device cannot be probed by the driver at all.
With arm,primecell-periphid DT bindings (bindings/arm/primecell.txt) in
place, it should be the cleanest the way to use a pseudo-ID to probe the
device from AMBA bus. We create an unofficial vendor number
AMBA_VENDOR_LINUX, which will practically never become an official
vendor ID, and takes Configuration, Revision number, and Part number as
input to compose a pseudo-ID for ZTE device.
Also, since we start using vendor_zte to probe ZTE device, the
__maybe_unused for vendor_zte is removed.

choose to define PL011 Flag Register bit positions differently from
standard ones as below.

The use of config_enabled() against config options is ambiguous. In
practical terms, config_enabled() is equivalent to IS_BUILTIN(), but the
author might have used it for the meaning of IS_ENABLED(). Using
IS_ENABLED(), IS_BUILTIN(), IS_MODULE() etc. makes the intention
clearer.
This commit replaces config_enabled() with IS_ENABLED() where possible.
This commit is only touching bool config options.
I noticed two cases where config_enabled() is used against a tristate
option:
- config_enabled(CONFIG_HWMON)
[ drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath10k/thermal.c ]
- config_enabled(CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE)
[ drivers/gpu/drm/gma500/opregion.c ]
I did not touch them because they should be converted to IS_BUILTIN()

As some race conditions are identified in the termination process of tasklets,
enforce the atmel_shutdown() sequence. This way we make sure that no new
tasklets or software timer are scheduled during shutdown process.
An atomic flag is positioned to give this information throughout the code.
We also remove tasklet_disable() calls that were leading to deadlocks while
stopping the driver. A simpler init/kill sequence is used.

Make sure the transmitter and receiver are stopped when shutting down
the port, and related interrupts are disabled.
Without this:
- New input data may be received into the RX FIFO, possibly
triggering a new RX DMA completion,
- Transfers will still be enabled on a subsequent startup of the UART,
before the UART's FIFOs have been reset, causing reading of stale
data.

conditional has been added to the OF_EARLYCON_DECLARE() define.
The same conditional can be dropped from 8250_ingenic.c because

Introduce serial8250_out_MCR() and serial8250_in_MCR() routines, that
replace following calls:

When using the 8250 as a boot console and the main console results in
messages being printed twice. The console framework will only
unregister boot consoles if a new console is registered with the
CON_CONSDEV flag set.
Set this flag for the univ8250 console to prevent double-registration.

This driver makes use of the __set_bit() and __clear_bit() functions.
When running under big-endian, these functions don't convert the bit
indexes when working with peripheral registers, leading to the
incorrect bits being set and cleared when running big-endian.
Add two new driver functions for setting and clearing bits that are
byte-order aware.

The Kconfig currently controlling compilation of mps2-uart is:

Follow commit 89ebc27427 ("drivers/tty: make serial/mvebu-uart.c
explicitly non-modular") as an example of moving modular code to
non-modular:
- remove the modular code that is essentially orphaned, so that
when reading the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only.
- explicitly disallow a driver unbind, since that doesn't have a
sensible use case anyway, and it allows us to drop the ".remove"
code for non-modular drivers.
- use arch_initcall instead of module_init and remove module_exit.
Also note that MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE is a no-op for non-modular code.
We also delete the MODULE_LICENSE tag etc. since all that information
was (or is now) contained at the top of the file in the comments.

As suggested by the serial port infrastructure documentation, the IRQ is
requested in ->startup(). However, it is never freed in the ->shutdown()
hook.
With simple systems that open the serial port once for all and always
have at least one process that keep the serial port opened, there was no
problem. But with a more complicated system (*cough* systemd *cough*),
the serial port is opened/closed many times, which at some point no
processes having the serial port open at all. Due to this ->startup()
gets called again, tries to request_irq() again, which fails.

The bcm63xx_uart driver uses the of alias for determing its id. Recent
changes in dts files changed the expected 'uartX' to the recommended
'serialX', breaking serial output. Fix this by checking for a 'serialX'
alias as well.

We don't replace module.h with init.h since the file already has that.

Lets remove the modular code that is essentially orphaned, so that
when reading the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only.
We explicitly disallow a driver unbind, since that doesn't have a
sensible use case anyway, and it allows us to drop the ".remove"
code for non-modular drivers.
Since module_init translates to device_initcall in the non-modular
case, the init ordering remains unchanged with this commit.
We don't replace module.h with init.h since the file already has that.
We also delete the MODULE_LICENSE tag etc. since all that information
is already contained at the top of the file in the comments.

On non-DeviceTree platforms, the index of serial device is a static
variable incremented on each probe. It is incremented even if deferred
probe happens when getting the clock in s3c24xx_serial_init_port().
This index is used for referencing elements of statically allocated
s3c24xx_serial_ports array. In case of re-probe, the index will point
outside of this array leading to memory corruption.
Increment the index only on successful probe.

When the clk_get() of "uart" clock returns EPROBE_DEFER, the next re-probe

The first unsuccessful clk_get() causes s3c24xx_serial_init_port() to
exit with failure but the s3c24xx_uart_port is left half-configured
(e.g. port->mapbase is set, clk contains ERR_PTR). On next re-probe,
the function s3c24xx_serial_init_port() will exit early with success
because of configured port->mapbase and driver will use old values,
including the ERR_PTR as clock.
Fix this by cleaning the port->mapbase on error path so each re-probe
will initialize all of the port settings.

Some BIOS only use _OSI("Linux") to distinguish between Linux & Windows.
Apply Level/Low to UART trigger mode if Windows, Edge/High mode otherwise.
But since 2.6.23 the mainline kernel no longer returns true for
_OSI(“Linux”).
The default IRQ0~15 trigger mode in Linux is Edge/High mode without
ACPI MADT override. It mismatches IRQ mode and makes UART malfunctional on
such motherboard.
This patch will check the current IRQ mode and apply correct mode to UART.

There is a macro named ATMEL_SERIAL_RINGSIZE which suggesting that it
corresponds to the real size of the ring buffer. Let warn people that
there is a factor of four since allocation size is

The IRQ status check and related actions was done in the tasklet without
benefit. So, move it back to the IRQ context to simplify IRQ handling and
having the possibility to split the tasklet in two separated ones for
receive and transmit actions.

For dm uarts in pio mode tx data is transferred to the fifo register 4
bytes at a time, but care is not taken when these 4 bytes spans the end
of the xmit buffer so the loop might read up to 3 bytes past the buffer
and then skip the actual data at the beginning of the buffer.
Fix this by, analogous to the DMA case, make sure the chunk doesn't
wrap the xmit buffer.

Avoid data corruption issues that result in CRC errors during file
transfers over serial ports at higher baud rates.
The current msm_serial driver masks the FIFO Rx interrupts in
msm_start_rx_dma() since Rx FIFO interrupts are not required in DMA
mode. However, msm_complete_rx_dma() re-enables the Rx FIFO interrupts
which could cause RXSTALE event to be processed when a TXLEV interrupt
occurs.
The following is the sequence of events that could occur resulting in
data corruption.
msm_start_rx_dma -> msm_complete_rx_dma -->
spin_unlock_irqrestore(&port->lock) -->
msm_uart_irq()(For TXLEV interrupt) --> msm_handle_rx_dm() (Read from
FIFO resulting in data corruption)
The patch fixes the issue by not restoring the RXLEV and RXSTALE
interrupts in msm_complete_rx_dma(). These interrupts are required only
in FIFO mode.

The hrtimer include isn't used and neither is serial. Drop those
ones. The irq.h header really should be interrupt.h because this
is an interrupt user and not an interrupt chip. Finally add
wait.h for the wake_up*() usage in this driver and kernel.h for
container_of().

The registers that msm_serial_set_mnd_regs() writes only exist on
the non-uartdm hardware, so let's return early here if this
function is called on uartdm hardware. This also prevents us from
messing up the uartclk variable if the uartclk rate happens to be
19.2 or 4.8 MHz.

This header file is only used by the driver, so let's merge the
two together to reduce files and make it easier to see the whole
driver without flipping through two files. This also makes it
easier to use the structures defined in msm_serial.c in the
functions that are defined in msm_serial.h by placing them in the
proper locations.

Setting the FIFO reset bits is not sufficient to reset the RX FIFO.
After this the status register's RDF flag bit may still be set, causing
the reception of one stale byte of data.
To fix this, clear all status flag bits related to reception, error, and
break handling, cfr. the initialization flowchart in the datasheet.

FIFO reset is done in sci_reset(), called from sci_set_termios(), while
sci_start_tx() and sci_start_rx() are called before, from sci_startup().
However, starting transfers before the UART's FIFOs have been reset may
cause reading of stale data.
Remove the calls to sci_start_tx() and sci_start_rx() from sci_startup()
to fix this.
Transfers are still started when needed:
- sci_start_rx() is called from sci_set_termios() after FIFO reset, if
the CREAD flag is set,
- sci_start_tx() is called from uart_change_speed() immediately
thereafter, if transmission is enabled.

Before, the driver relied on initialization by the boot loader, or by
implicit reset state.
Note that unlike on (H)SCIF, the RTS/CTS bits exist only if dedicated
RTS/CTS pins are available, which depends on the SoC and UART instance.

Correct pin initialization on (H)SCIF:
- RTS must be deasserted (it's active low),
- SCK must be an input, as it may be used as the optional external
clock input.
Initial pin configuration must always be done:
- Regardless of the presence of dedicated RTS and CTS pins: if the
register exists, the RTS/CTS bits exist, too,
- Regardless of hardware flow control being enabled or not: RTS must
be deasserted.

Enhance the Renesas SCI UART driver to add support for GPIO-controlled
modem lines (CTS, DSR, DCD, RNG, RTS, DTR), using the serial_mctrl_gpio
helpers.
GPIO-controlled modem lines can be used when dedicated modem lines are
not available. Invalid configurations specifying both GPIO RTS/CTS and
dedicated RTS/CTS are rejected.

Documentation/serial/driver clearly states:
If the port does not support CTS, DCD or DSR, the driver should
indicate that the signal is permanently active.
Hence always set TIOCM_CTS, as we currently don't look at the CTS
hardware line state at all.
FWIW, this fixes the transmit path when hardware-assisted flow control
is enabled, and userspace enables CRTSCTS.
The receive path is still broken, as RTS is never asserted.

Most users of IS_ERR_VALUE() in the kernel are wrong, as they
pass an 'int' into a function that takes an 'unsigned long'
argument. This happens to work because the type is sign-extended
on 64-bit architectures before it gets converted into an
unsigned type.
However, anything that passes an 'unsigned short' or 'unsigned int'
argument into IS_ERR_VALUE() is guaranteed to be broken, as are
8-bit integers and types that are wider than 'unsigned long'.
Andrzej Hajda has already fixed a lot of the worst abusers that
were causing actual bugs, but it would be nice to prevent any
users that are not passing 'unsigned long' arguments.
This patch changes all users of IS_ERR_VALUE() that I could find
on 32-bit ARM randconfig builds and x86 allmodconfig. For the
moment, this doesn't change the definition of IS_ERR_VALUE()
because there are probably still architecture specific users
elsewhere.
Almost all the warnings I got are for files that are better off
using 'if (err)' or 'if (err < 0)'.
The only legitimate user I could find that we get a warning for
is the (32-bit only) freescale fman driver, so I did not remove
the IS_ERR_VALUE() there but changed the type to 'unsigned long'.
For 9pfs, I just worked around one user whose calling conventions
are so obscure that I did not dare change the behavior.
I was using this definition for testing:

which ends up making all 16-bit or wider types work correctly with
the most plausible interpretation of what IS_ERR_VALUE() was supposed
to return according to its users, but also causes a compile-time
warning for any users that do not pass an 'unsigned long' argument.
I suggested this approach earlier this year, but back then we ended
up deciding to just fix the users that are obviously broken. After
the initial warning that caused me to get involved in the discussion
(fs/gfs2/dir.c) showed up again in the mainline kernel, Linus
asked me to send the whole thing again.

commit 4047b37122 ("serial: core: Prevent unsafe uart port access,
part 1") added lockdep assertion for port mutex but fails to check
if debug_locks has disabled lockdep (so lock state is no longer
reliable).
Use lockdep_assert_held() instead, which properly checks lockdep
state as well.

Commit cdcea058e5 ("serial: 8250_dw: Avoid serial_outx code duplicate
with new dw8250_check_lcr()") introduce a wrong logic when write val to
LCR reg. When CONFIG_64BIT enabled, __raw_writeq is used unconditionally.
The __raw_readq/__raw_writeq is introduced by commit bca2092d78 ("serial:
8250_dw: Use 64-bit access for OCTEON.") for OCTEON.
So for 64BIT && !PORT_OCTEON, we better to use coincident write function.

The OUT1 and OUT2 pins present on some legacy UARTs are basically GPIOs.
It doesn't make much sense to emulate GPIOs using other GPIOs, hence
drop support for that.

Add device HID AMDI0020 to match the AMD ACPI Vendor ID (AMDI) as
registered in http://www.uefi.org/acpi_id_list, and the UART
controller on future AMD paltform will use the HID instead of AMD0020.

The 8250_fintek driver advertises as the PNP0501 driver; however this
conflicts with the standard 16550A uart PNP0501. The conflict causes
the 8250_fintek driver to load with _every_ PNP0501, but never probe,
and causing the entire 8250 driver stack to unload if the 8250_fintek
driver is unloaded (modprobe doesn't know that 8250_pnp rather than
8250_fintek claimed the resource).
This patch merges the Fintek driver into 8250_base. On autoconfig_16550
the device is probed to verify if it is a FINTEK device or not.
This custom probing can be disabled completely via configuration. When a
Fintek device is not probed it will behave as a standard 16550A device,
with no RS485 capabilities.

documented by the Generic Serial DT Bindings.
The old vendor-specific property is still recognized by the driver for

Using fake IIR values to perform rx dma operations unnecessarily
conflates separate operations, stopping in-progress dma with starting
new dma.
Introduce serial8250_rx_dma_flush() to handle stopping in-progress dma
[omap8250 already has equivalent omap_8250_rx_dma_flush()].
Replace rx_dma(UART_IIR_RX_TIMEOUT) with the equivalent *_rx_dma_flush(),
and rx_dma(0) with the equivalent *_rx_dma(). Handle IIR steering
in the irq handler with handle_rx_dma() helper.

commit 27c310c5c3 ("serial: 8250_dma: no need to sync RX buffer")
notes the RX DMA buffer is allocated from DMA coherent memory, and
thus does not need sync'd for each transaction. The same is true
for OMAP RX DMA.

On Intel Penwell and Tangier the HSU block (3 HSU ports) has a global register
set which is currently not used by the driver. On Tangier it has it's own PCI
device and thus available for enumeration. Since it's not a real HSU port we
just skip it and therefore put a comment in the code why we do so.

There is no reason to compile module on non-X86 platforms, though COMPILE_TEST
is provided for sake of what it does.
While here, set default to SERIAL_8250 that user doesn't need an explicit
option to be set and hide it from non-expert.

There is a special register that shows interrupt status by source. In
particular case the source can be a combination of DMA Tx, DMA Rx, and UART.
Read the register and call the handlers only for sources that request an
interrupt.
