Staging driver patches for 3.17-rc1
Here's the big pull request for the staging driver tree for 3.17-rc1. Lots of things in here, over 2000 patches, but the best part is this: 1480 files changed, 39070 insertions(+), 254659 deletions(-) Thanks to the great work of Kristina Martšenko, 14 different staging drivers have been removed from the tree as they were obsolete and no one was willing to work on cleaning them up. This pull request has a lot of work done. The main thing is the changes
to the ftrace function callback infrastructure. It's introducing a way to allow different functions to call directly different trampolines instead of all calling the same "mcount" one. The only user of this for now is the function graph tracer, which always had a different trampoline, but the function tracer trampoline was called and did basically nothing, and then the function graph tracer trampoline was called. The difference now, is that the function graph tracer trampoline can be called directly if a function is only being traced by the function graph trampoline. If function tracing is also happening on the same function, the old way is still done. The accounting for this takes up more memory when function graph tracing is activated, as it needs to keep track of which functions it uses. I have a new way that wont take as much memory, but it's not ready yet for this merge window, and will have to wait for the next one. Another big change was the removal of the ftrace_start/stop() calls that were used by the suspend/resume code that stopped function tracing when entering into suspend and resume paths. The stop of ftrace was done because there was some function that would crash the system if one called smp_processor_id()! The stop/start was a big hammer to solve the issue at the time, which was when ftrace was first introduced into Linux. Now ftrace has better infrastructure to debug such issues, and I found the problem function and labeled it with "notrace" and function tracing can now safely be activated all the way down into the guts of suspend and resume. Other changes include clean ups of uprobe code. Clean up of the trace_seq() code. And other various small fixes and clean ups to ftrace and tracing. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQEcBAABAgAGBQJT35zXAAoJEKQekfcNnQGuOz0H/38zqM0nLFhrgvz3EPk2UOjn xqpX8qyb2V7TJZL+IqeXU2a5cQZl5ba0D4WtBGpxbTae3CJYiuQ87iKUNFoH0om5 FDpn80igb368k8V3qRdRsziKVCCf0XBd/NkHJXc0ZkfXGyzB2Ga4bBxALxp2gj9y bnO+vKo6+tWYKG4hyQb4P3LRXUrK8/LWEsPr39cH2QH1Rdj69Lx9CgrCdUVJmwcb Bj8hEiLXL/RYCFNn79A3wNTUvW0rG/AOIf4SLqXtasSRZ0ToaU0ZyDnrNv+0Ol47 rX8tSk+LfXchL9hpIvjCf1vlAYq3pO02favteR/jip3lx/dTjEDE4RJ9qtJzZ4Q= =fwQY -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'trace-3.17' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rostedt/linux-trace Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt: "This pull request has a lot of work done. The clock framework changes for 3.17 are mostly additions of new clock
drivers and fixes/enhancements to existing clock drivers. There are also
some non-critical fixes and improvements to the framework core.
Changes to the clock framework core include:
* improvements to printks on errors
* flattening the previously hierarchal structure of per-clock entries
in debugfs
* allow per-clock debugfs entries that are specific to a particular
clock driver
* configure initial clock parent and/or initial clock rate from Device
Tree
* several feature enhancements to the composite clock type
* misc fixes
New clock drivers added include:
* TI Palmas PMIC
* Allwinner A23 SoC
* Qualcomm APQ8084 and IPQ8064 SoCs
* Rockchip rk3188, rk3066 and rk3288 SoCs
* STMicroelectronics STiH407 SoC
* Cirrus Logic CLPS711X SoC
Many fixes, feature enhancements and further clock tree support for
existing clock drivers also were merged, such as Samsung's "ARMCLK down"
power saving feature for their Exynos4 & Exynos5 SoCs.

Merge branch 'for-3.17' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tj/cgroup
Pull cgroup changes from Tejun Heo:
"Mostly changes to get the v2 interface ready. The core features are
mostly ready now and I think it's reasonable to expect to drop the
devel mask in one or two devel cycles at least for a subset of
controllers.
- cgroup added a controller dependency mechanism so that block cgroup
can depend on memory cgroup. This will be used to finally support
IO provisioning on the writeback traffic, which is currently being
implemented.
- The v2 interface now uses a separate table so that the interface
files for the new interface are explicitly declared in one place.
Each controller will explicitly review and add the files for the
new interface.
- cpuset is getting ready for the hierarchical behavior which is in
the similar style with other controllers so that an ancestor's
configuration change doesn't change the descendants' configurations
irreversibly and processes aren't silently migrated when a CPU or
node goes down.
All the changes are to the new interface and no behavior changed for
the multiple hierarchies"

usb-core bInterval quirk
This patch adds a usb quirk to support devices with interupt endpoints and bInterval values expressed as microframes. The quirk causes the parse endpoint function to modify the reported bInterval to a standards conforming value. There is currently code in the endpoint parser that checks for bIntervals that are outside of the valid range (1-16 for USB 2+ high speed and super speed interupt endpoints). In this case, the code assumes the bInterval is being reported in 1ms frames. As well, the correction is only applied if the original bInterval value is out of the 1-16 range. With this quirk applied to the device, the bInterval will be accurately adjusted from microframes to an exponent. x86/mm: Add tracepoints for TLB flushes
We don't have any good way to figure out what kinds of flushes are being attempted. Right now, we can try to use the vm counters, but those only tell us what we actually did with the hardware (one-by-one vs full) and don't tell us what was actually _requested_. This allows us to select out "interesting" TLB flushes that we might want to optimize (like the ranged ones) and ignore the ones that we have very little control over (the ones at context switch). ata: libahci_platform: move port_map parameters into the AHCI structure
This patch moves force_port_map and mask_port_map into the ahci_host_priv structure. This allows to modify them into the AHCI framework. This is needed by the new dt bindings representing ports as the port_map mask is computed automatically. Parameters modifying force_port_map, mask_port_map and flags have been removed from the ahci_platform_init_host() function, and inputs in the ahci_host_priv structure are now directly filed. APEI is currently implemented so that it depends on x86 hardware.
The primary dependency is that GHES uses the x86 NMI for hardware error notification and MCE for memory error handling. These patches remove that dependency. Other APEI features such as error reporting via external IRQ, error serialization, or error injection, do not require changes to use them on non-x86 architectures. The following patch set eliminates the APEI Kconfig x86 dependency by making these changes: - treat NMI notification as GHES architecture - HAVE_ACPI_APEI_NMI - group and wrap around #ifdef CONFIG_HAVE_ACPI_APEI_NMI code which is used only for NMI path - identify architectural boxes and abstract it accordingly (tlb flush and MCE) - rework ioremap for both IRQ and NMI context NMI code is kept in ghes.c file since NMI and IRQ context are tightly coupled. Note, these patches introduce no functional changes for x86. The NMI notification feature is hard selected for x86. mm/rmap.c: fix pgoff calculation to handle hugepage correctly
I triggered VM_BUG_ON() in vma_address() when I tried to migrate an anonymous hugepage with mbind() in the kernel v3.16-rc3. This is because pgoff's calculation in rmap_walk_anon() fails to consider compound_order() only to have an incorrect value. This patch introduces page_to_pgoff(), which gets the page's offset in PAGE_CACHE_SIZE. Kirill pointed out that page cache tree should natively handle hugepages, and in order to make hugetlbfs fit it, page->index of hugetlbfs page should be in PAGE_CACHE_SIZE. This is beyond this patch, but page_to_pgoff() contains the point to be fixed in a single function. Signed-off-by: Naoya Horiguchi <n-horiguchi@ah.jp.nec.com> Acked-by: Kirill A. Adds regulator support in PHY core. PHY core is modified to support representation of multi-phy PHY providers with each individual PHY as sub-node OF PHY provider node. New PHY drivers adapted to PHY framework (hix5hd2 SATA PHY, QCOM APQ8064 SATA PHY, QCOM IPQ806x SATA PHY, Berlin SATA PHY and MiPHY356x). Existing TI PIPE3 PHY can now be used for PCIe too. Includes misc fixes and cleanups. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAABAgAGBQJTzhPPAAoJEA5ceFyATYLZYH0QAJTrXObYG3pSWonyqn3fUUkZ G9GexVDajtZw3SQytVJseDsiwmqZAib/ePBI/HGNGa40Iq59VuvtnabMJWF48gQk GPufh3cXxe/MiC0U7wHncRhoq7Al7JAvbpihVA4fXD6W4ji9JrbogaxB6+tweAgW 4i8+t9SkamLMz7OwNME7/lTOx+kUtEakoHmwfgf0wRYmGktyAG8HJ+mOoJgEeZa/ weC5J1ay8nt2ISi4gyckaW83sl5UvfWG1XOzqypZXhTARGvDIZ/4fPyUsrhjCv6L V5SGuq0HdUgbc7FS5Gvnn56PSHO8QFG0li2VSaJKlf1vYv/hGDxMFcpbuFOAhl99 +edueAAFr/NY2/lpAhf6qse2SRQqJGqy33Rn8mp4x3yIX18bLKvg+i/MXhN7xUFn 5lRitH4v23kKT6iv5iyZP5YW5ljYMSKmG122Ri3YwHB9cFvZKG8aEzr2Js1gSVTI 9K8AcQ3VpCi+9IS1WTVCU/nPYOUTm+wb5i4TgC19yjUw97+i9e2DtosHAwx3Xj93 HRSxWmJOHRwI0mBPyrIiNj40Hya9HU+7sf2Z6W3O9BKGWYxYVZ8aarFm/ChQDUBS Smmj8eGdW7yRQ+opb1usYcePoxsrp2B86fNsCRqc/oI4JGyLh7OcDKIaQhGtcEep pZjQ+ClSzUv65XVVZVqi =uUhi -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'for_3.17' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kishon/linux-phy into usb-next Kishon writes: for_3.17 Adds regulator support in PHY core. acpi, apei, ghes: Make NMI error notification to be GHES architecture extension.
Currently APEI depends on x86 architecture. It is because of NMI hardware error notification of GHES which is currently supported by x86 only. However, many other APEI features can be still used perfectly by other architectures. This commit adds two symbols: 1. HAVE_ACPI_APEI for those archs which support APEI. 2. HAVE_ACPI_APEI_NMI which is used for NMI code isolation in ghes.c file. NMI related data and functions are grouped so they can be wrapped inside one #ifdef section. Appropriate function stubs are provided for !NMI case. Note there is no functional changes for x86 due to hard selected HAVE_ACPI_APEI and HAVE_ACPI_APEI_NMI symbols. phy: core: Let node ptr of PHY point to PHY and not of PHY provider
In case of multi-phy PHY providers, each PHY should be modeled as a sub node of the PHY provider. Then each PHY will have a different node pointer (node pointer of sub node) than that of PHY provider. Added this provision in the PHY core. Also fixed all drivers to use the updated API.
