The ifa_flags value in the netlink message was originally a uint8_t value. The linux kernel quickly ran out of 8 bits of data to pass and the IFA_FLAGS value was added to the netlink message to allow more than 8 bits of data to be passed. FRRouting
FRR is free software that implements and manages various IPv4 and IPv6 routing protocols. It runs on nearly all distributions of Linux and BSD as well as Solaris and supports all modern CPU architectures.
FRR currently supports the following protocols:
