Currently, pc-q35 and pc-i44fx machine models are default to use SMBIOS 2.8
(32-bit entry point). Since SMBIOS 3.0 (64-bit entry point) is now fully
supported since QEMU 7.0, default to use SMBIOS 3.0 for newer machine
models. This is necessary to avoid the following message when launching
a VM with large number of vcpus.
"SMBIOS 2.1 table length 66822 exceeds 65535"

i440fx machine versions 2.3 and newer supports dynamic ram
resizing. See commit a1666142db ("acpi-build: make ROMs RAM blocks resizeable") .
Currently supported all q35 machine types (versions 2.4 and newer) supports
resizable RAM/ROM blocks.Therefore the warning generated when the ACPI table
size exceeds a pre-defined value does not apply to those machine versions.
Add a check limiting the warning message to only those machines that does not
support expandable ram blocks (that is, i440fx machines with version 2.2
and older).

The xen_overlay device (and later similar devices for event channels and
grant tables) need to be instantiated. Do this from a kvm_type method on
the PC machine derivatives, since KVM is only way to support Xen emulation
for now.

The added enforcing is only relevant in the case of AMD where the
range right before the 1TB is restricted and cannot be DMA mapped
by the kernel consequently leading to IOMMU INVALID_DEVICE_REQUEST
or possibly other kinds of IOMMU events in the AMD IOMMU.
Although, there's a case where it may make sense to disable the
IOVA relocation/validation when migrating from a
non-amd-1tb-aware qemu to one that supports it.
Relocating RAM regions to after the 1Tb hole has consequences for
guest ABI because we are changing the memory mapping, so make
sure that only new machine enforce but not older ones.

Use the pre-initialized pci-host qdev and fetch the
pci-hole64-size into pc_memory_init() newly added argument.
Use PCI_HOST_PROP_PCI_HOLE64_SIZE pci-host property for
fetching pci-hole64-size.
This is in preparation to determine that host-phys-bits are
enough and for pci-hole64-size to be considered to relocate
ram-above-4g to be at 1T (on AMD platforms).

Tiny machines optimized for fast boot time generally don't use EFI,
which means a random seed has to be supplied some other way. For this
purpose, Linux (≥5.20) supports passing a seed in the setup_data table
with SETUP_RNG_SEED, specially intended for hypervisors, kexec, and
specialized bootloaders. The linked commit shows the upstream kernel
implementation.
At Paolo's request, we don't pass these to versioned machine types ≤7.0.

This removes the last of the CXL code from the MachineState where it
is visible to all Machines to only those that support CXL (currently i386/pc)
As i386/pc always support CXL now, stop allocating the state independently.
Note the pxb register hookup code runs even if cxl=off in order to detect
pxb_cxl host bridges and fail to start if any are present as they won't
have the control registers available.

by default we do not version ACPI AML as it's considered
a part of firmware. Drop do_not_add_smb_acpi that blocked

On some older software like Windows 7 installer, having both a PS/2
mouse and USB mouse results in only one device working property (which
might be a different device each boot). While the workaround to not use
a USB mouse with such software is valid, it creates an inconsistent
experience if the user wishes to always use a USB mouse.
This introduces a new machine property to inhibit the creation of the
i8042 PS/2 controller.

The i440fx and Q35 machine types are both hardcoded to use the
legacy SMBIOS 2.1 (32-bit) entry point. This is a sensible
conservative choice because SeaBIOS only supports SMBIOS 2.1
EDK2, however, can also support SMBIOS 3.0 (64-bit) entry points,
and QEMU already uses this on the ARM virt machine type.
This adds a property to allow the choice of SMBIOS entry point
versions For example to opt in to 64-bit SMBIOS entry point:
$QEMU -machine q35,smbios-entry-point-type=64

We're about to support a third vIOMMU for x86, virtio-iommu which
doesn't inherit X86IOMMUState. Move the IOMMU singleton into
PCMachineState, so it can be shared between all three vIOMMUs.
The x86_iommu_get_default() helper is still needed by KVM and IOAPIC to
fetch the default IRQ-remapping IOMMU. Since virtio-iommu doesn't
support IRQ remapping, this interface doesn't need to change for the
moment. We could later replace X86IOMMUState with an "IRQ remapping
IOMMU" interface if necessary.

Instead of composing disabled _MAT entry and then later on
patching it to enabled for hotpluggbale CPUs in DSDT,
set it to enabled at the time _MAT entry is built.
It will allow to drop usage of packed structures in

Expose SGX to the guest if and only if KVM is enabled and supports
virtualization of SGX. While the majority of ENCLS can be emulated to
some degree, because SGX uses a hardware-based root of trust, the
attestation aspects of SGX cannot be emulated in software, i.e.
ultimately emulation will fail as software cannot generate a valid
quote/report. The complexity of partially emulating SGX in Qemu far
outweighs the value added, e.g. an SGX specific simulator for userspace
applications can emulate SGX for development and testing purposes.
Note, access to the PROVISIONKEY is not yet advertised to the guest as
KVM blocks access to the PROVISIONKEY by default and requires userspace
to provide additional credentials (via ioctl()) to expose PROVISIONKEY.

Because SGX EPC is enumerated through CPUID, EPC "devices" need to be
realized prior to realizing the vCPUs themselves, i.e. long before
generic devices are parsed and realized. From a virtualization
perspective, the CPUID aspect also means that EPC sections cannot be
hotplugged without paravirtualizing the guest kernel (hardware does
not support hotplugging as EPC sections must be locked down during
pre-boot to provide EPC's security properties).
So even though EPC sections could be realized through the generic
-devices command, they need to be created much earlier for them to
actually be usable by the guest. Place all EPC sections in a
contiguous block, somewhat arbitrarily starting after RAM above 4g.
Ensuring EPC is in a contiguous region simplifies calculations, e.g.
device memory base, PCI hole, etc..., allows dynamic calculation of the
total EPC size, e.g. exposing EPC to guests does not require -maxmem,
and last but not least allows all of EPC to be enumerated in a single
ACPI entry, which is expected by some kernels, e.g. Windows 7 and 8.
The new compound properties command for sgx like below:

Since commits aa57020774 ("numa: move numa global variable
nb_numa_nodes into MachineState") and 7e721e7b10 ("numa: move
numa global variable numa_info into MachineState"), we can get
NUMA information completely from MachineState::numa_state.
Remove PCMachineState::numa_nodes and PCMachineState::node_mem,
since they are just copied from MachineState::numa_state.

Introduce the X86_FW_OVMF Kconfig symbol for OVMF-specific code.
Move the OVMF-specific code from pc_sysfw.c to pc_sysfw_ovmf.c,
adding a pair of stubs.
Update MAINTAINERS to reach OVMF maintainers when these new
files are modified.

After fixing the _UID value for the primary PCI root bridge in
af1b80ae it was discovered that this change updates Windows
configuration in an incompatible way causing network configuration
failure unless DHCP is used. More details provided on the list:

This change reverts the _UID update from 1 to 0 for q35 and i440fx
VMs before version 5.2 to maintain the original behaviour when
upgrading.

OVMF is developing a mechanism for depositing a GUIDed table just
below the known location of the reset vector. The table goes
backwards in memory so all entries are of the form
<data>|len|<GUID>
Where <data> is arbtrary size and type, <len> is a uint16_t and
describes the entire length of the entry from the beginning of the
data to the end of the guid.
The foot of the table is of this form and <len> for this case
describes the entire size of the table. The table foot GUID is
defined by OVMF as 96b582de-1fb2-45f7-baea-a366c55a082d and if the
table is present this GUID is just below the reset vector, 48 bytes
before the end of the firmware file.
Add a parser for the ovmf reset block which takes a copy of the block,
if the table foot guid is found, minus the footer and a function for
later traversal to return the data area of any specified GUIDs.

Qemu's ACPI table generation sets the fields OEM ID and OEM table ID
to "BOCHS " and "BXPCxxxx" where "xxxx" is replaced by the ACPI
table name.
Some games like Red Dead Redemption 2 seem to check the ACPI OEM ID
and OEM table ID for the strings "BOCHS" and "BXPC" and if they are
found, the game crashes(this may be an intentional detection
mechanism to prevent playing the game in a virtualized environment).
This patch allows you to override these default values.
The feature can be used in this manner:
qemu -machine oem-id=ABCDEF,oem-table-id=GHIJKLMN
The oem-id string can be up to 6 bytes in size, and the
oem-table-id string can be up to 8 bytes in size. If the string are
smaller than their respective sizes they will be padded with space.
If either of these parameters is not set, the current default values
will be used for the one missing.
Note that the the OEM Table ID field will not be extended with the
name of the table, but will use either the default name or the user
provided one.
This does not affect the -acpitable option (for user-defined ACPI
tables), which has precedence over -machine option.

QEMU's kvmclock device is only created when KVM PV feature bits for
kvmclock (KVM_FEATURE_CLOCKSOURCE/KVM_FEATURE_CLOCKSOURCE2) are
exposed to the guest. With 'kvm=off' cpu flag the device is not
created and we don't call KVM_GET_CLOCK/KVM_SET_CLOCK upon migration.
It was reported that without these call at least Hyper-V TSC page
clocksouce (which can be enabled independently) gets broken after
migration.
Switch to creating kvmclock QEMU device unconditionally, it seems
to always make sense to call KVM_GET_CLOCK/KVM_SET_CLOCK on migration.
Use KVM_CAP_ADJUST_CLOCK check instead of CPUID feature bits.

The generic pc_machine_initfn() calls pc_system_flash_create() which creates
'system.flash0' and 'system.flash1' devices. These devices are then realized
by pc_system_flash_map() which is called from pc_system_firmware_init() which
itself is called via pc_memory_init(). The latter however is not called when
xen_enable() is true and hence the following assertion fails:

Assertion `dev->realized' failed
These flash devices are unneeded when using Xen so this patch avoids the
assertion by simply removing them using pc_system_flash_cleanup_unused().

This device is only used by the PC machines. The pc.c file is
already big enough, with 2255 lines. By removing 113 lines of
it, we reduced it by 5%. It is now a bit easier to navigate
the file.

The access to the machine class returned by MACHINE_GET_CLASS() in
tsc_khz_needed() is crashing as it is trying to dereference a different
type of machine class object (TYPE_PC_MACHINE) to that of this microVM.
This can be resolved by extending the changes in the following commit
f0bb276bf8 ("hw/i386: split PCMachineState deriving X86MachineState from it")
and moving the save_tsc_khz field in PCMachineClass to X86MachineClass.

This is in preparation for adding support for ARM64 platforms
where it doesn't use port mapped IO for ACPI IO space. We are
making changes so that MMIO region can be accommodated
and board can pass the base address into the aml build function.
Also move few MEMORY_* definitions to header so that other memory
hotplug event signalling mechanisms (eg. Generic Event Device on
HW-reduced acpi platforms) can use the same from their respective
event handler code.

This is so I2C devices can be found in the ACPI namespace. Currently
that's only IPMI, but devices can be easily added now.
Adding the devices required some PCI information, and the bus itself
to be added to the PCMachineState structure.
Note that this only works on Q35, the ACPI for PIIX4 is not capable
of handling an SMBus device.

Add 4.2 machine types for arm/i440fx/q35/s390x/spapr.
For i440fx and q35, unversioned cpu models are still translated
to -v1, as 0788a56bd1 ("i386: Make unversioned CPU models be
aliases") states this should only transition to the latest cpu
model version in 4.3 (or later).

In order to reduce the memory footprint we map into memory
the initrd using g_mapped_file_new() instead of reading it.
In this way we can share the initrd pages between multiple
instances of QEMU.

In my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h triggers a
recompile of some 5400 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and
objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h).
Almost a third of its inclusions are actually superfluous. Delete
them. Downgrade two more to qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h, and move one
from char/serial.h to char/serial.c.
hw/semihosting/config.c, monitor/monitor.c, qdev-monitor.c, and
stubs/semihost.c define variables declared in sysemu/sysemu.h without
including it. The compiler is cool with that, but include it anyway.
This doesn't reduce actual use much, as it's still included into
widely included headers. The next commit will tackle that.

This will make unversioned CPU models behavior depend on the
machine type:
* "pc-*-4.0" and older will not report them as aliases.
This is done to keep compatibility with older QEMU versions
after management software starts translating aliases.
* "pc-*-4.1" will translate unversioned CPU models to -v1.
This is done to keep compatibility with existing management
software, that still relies on CPU model runnability promises.
* "none" will translate unversioned CPU models to their latest
version. This is planned become the default in future machine
types (probably in pc-*-4.3).

To make smp_parse() more flexible and expansive, a smp_parse function
pointer is added to MachineClass that machine types could override.
The generic smp_parse() code in vl.c is moved to hw/core/machine.c, and
become the default implementation of MachineClass::smp_parse. A PC-specific
function called pc_smp_parse() has been added to hw/i386/pc.c, which in
this patch changes nothing against the default one .

The die-level as the first PC-specific cpu topology is added to the leagcy
cpu topology model, which has one die per package implicitly and only the
numbers of sockets/cores/threads are configurable.
In the new model with die-level support, the total number of logical
processors (including offline) on board will be calculated as:
#cpus = #sockets * #dies * #cores * #threads
and considering compatibility, the default value for #dies would be
initialized to one in x86_cpu_initfn() and pc_machine_initfn().

To get rid of the global smp_* variables we're currently using, it's recommended
to pass MachineState in the list of incoming parameters for functions that use
global smp variables, thus some redundant parameters are dropped. It's applied
for legacy smbios_*(), *_machine_reset(), hot_add_cpu() and mips *_create_cpu().

Commit c87759ce87 fixed a regression affecting pc-q35 machines by
introducing a new pc-q35-4.0.1 machine version to be used instead
of pc-q35-4.0. The only purpose was to revert the default behaviour
of not using split irqchip, but the change also introduced the usual
hw_compat and pc_compat bits, and wired them for pc-q35 only.
This raises questions when it comes to add new compat properties for
4.0* machine versions of any architecture. Where to add them ? In
4.0, 4.0.1 or both ? Error prone. Another possibility would be to teach
all other architectures about 4.0.1. This solution isn't satisfying,
especially since this is a pc-q35 specific issue.
It turns out that the split irqchip default is handled in the machine
option function and doesn't involve compat lists at all.
Drop all the 4.0.1 compat lists and use the 4.0 ones instead in the 4.0.1
machine option function.
Move the compat props that were added to the 4.0.1 since c87759ce87 to
4.0.
Even if only hw_compat_4_0_1 had an impact on other architectures,
drop pc_compat_4_0_1 as well for consistency.

Commit b2fc91db84 ("q35: set split kernel irqchip as default") changed
the default for the pc-q35-4.0 machine type to use split irqchip, which
turned out to have disasterous effects on vfio-pci INTx support. KVM
resampling irqfds are registered for handling these interrupts, but
these are non-functional in split irqchip mode. We can't simply test
for split irqchip in QEMU as userspace handling of this interrupt is a
significant performance regression versus KVM handling (GeForce GPUs
assigned to Windows VMs are non-functional without forcing MSI mode or
re-enabling kernel irqchip).
The resolution is to revert the change in default irqchip mode in the
pc-q35-4.1 machine and create a pc-q35-4.0.1 machine for the 4.0-stable
branch. The qemu-q35-4.0 machine type should not be used in vfio-pci
configurations for devices requiring legacy INTx support without
explicitly modifying the VM configuration to use kernel irqchip.
