This line:

    mask = mask | mask >> 8 | mask >> 16 | mask >> 24;

only works when mask has 0s in the lower 24 bits, so add

     mask &= 0xff000000;

before.

pixman is a library that provides low-level pixel manipulation
features such as image compositing and trapezoid rasterization.
