f276e20b18 wifi: mac80211: move interface config to new struct
We'll use bss_conf for per-link configuration later, so
move out all the non-link-specific data out into a new
struct ieee80211_vif_cfg used in the vif.

Some adjustments were done with the following spatch:

    struct ieee80211_vif *vifp;

(though more manual fixups were needed, e.g. replacing
"vif_cfg->" by "vif->cfg." in many files.)

7b0a0e3c3a wifi: cfg80211: do some rework towards MLO link APIs
In order to support multi-link operation with multiple links,
start adding some APIs. The notable addition here is to have
the link ID in a new nl80211 attribute, that will be used to
differentiate the links in many nl80211 operations.

So far, this patch adds the netlink NL80211_ATTR_MLO_LINK_ID
attribute (as well as the NL80211_ATTR_MLO_LINKS attribute)
and plugs it through the system in some places, checking the
validity etc. along with other infrastructure needed for it.

For now, I've decided to include only the over-the-air link
ID in the API. I know we discussed that we eventually need to
have to have other ways of identifying a link, but for local
AP mode and auth/assoc commands as well as set_key etc. we'll
use the OTA ID.

Also included in this patch is some refactoring of the data
structures in struct wireless_dev, splitting for the first
time the data into type dependent pieces, to make reasoning
about these things easier.

8cbf0c2ab6 wifi: mac80211: refactor some key code
There's some pretty close code here, with the exception
of RCU dereference vs. protected dereference. Refactor
this to just return a pointer and then do the deref in
the caller later.

046d2e7c50 mac80211: prepare sta handling for MLO support
Currently in mac80211 each STA object is represented
using sta_info datastructure with the associated
STA specific information and drivers access ieee80211_sta
part of it.

With MLO (Multi Link Operation) support being added
in 802.11be standard, though the association is logically
with a single Multi Link capable STA, at the physical level
communication can happen via different advertised
links (uniquely identified by Channel, operating class,
BSSID) and hence the need to handle multiple link
STA parameters within a composite sta_info object
called the MLD STA. The different link STA part of
MLD STA are identified using the link address which can
be same or different as the MLD STA address and unique
link id based on the link vif.

To support extension of such a model, the sta_info
datastructure is modified to hold multiple link STA
objects with link specific params currently within
sta_info moved to this new structure. Similarly this is
done for ieee80211_sta as well which will be accessed
within mac80211 as well as by drivers, hence trivial
driver changes are expected to support this.

For current non MLO supported drivers, only one link STA
is present and link information is accessed via 'deflink'
member.

For MLO drivers, we still need to define the APIs etc. to
get the correct link ID and access the correct part of
the station info.

Currently in mac80211, all link STA info are accessed directly
via deflink. These will be updated to access via link pointers
indexed by link id with MLO support patches, with link id
being 0 for non MLO supported cases.

Except for couple of macro related changes, below spatch takes
care of updating mac80211 and driver code to access to the
link STA info via deflink.

4a2d4496e1 mac80211: fix potential double free on mesh join
While commit 6a01afcf84 ("mac80211: mesh: Free ie data when leaving
mesh") fixed a memory leak on mesh leave / teardown it introduced a
potential memory corruption caused by a double free when rejoining the
mesh:

  ieee80211_leave_mesh()
  -> kfree(sdata->u.mesh.ie);
  ...
  ieee80211_join_mesh()
  -> copy_mesh_setup()
     -> old_ie = ifmsh->ie;
     -> kfree(old_ie);

This double free / kernel panics can be reproduced by using wpa_supplicant
with an encrypted mesh (if set up without encryption via "iw" then
ifmsh->ie is always NULL, which avoids this issue). And then calling:

$ iw dev mesh0 mesh leave
  $ iw dev mesh0 mesh join my-mesh

Note that typically these commands are not used / working when using
wpa_supplicant. And it seems that wpa_supplicant or wpa_cli are going
through a NETDEV_DOWN/NETDEV_UP cycle between a mesh leave and mesh join
where the NETDEV_UP resets the mesh.ie to NULL via a memcpy of
default_mesh_setup in cfg80211_netdev_notifier_call, which then avoids
the memory corruption, too.

The issue was first observed in an application which was not using
wpa_supplicant but "Senf" instead, which implements its own calls to
nl80211.

Fixing the issue by removing the kfree()'ing of the mesh IE in the mesh
join function and leaving it solely up to the mesh leave to free the
mesh IE.

2433647bc8 mac80211: Switch to a virtual time-based airtime scheduler
This switches the airtime scheduler in mac80211 to use a virtual
time-based scheduler instead of the round-robin scheduler used before.
This has a couple of advantages:

- No need to sync up the round-robin scheduler in firmware/hardware with
  the round-robin airtime scheduler.

- If several stations are eligible for transmission we can schedule both
of them; no need to hard-block the scheduling rotation until the head
of the queue has used up its quantum.

- The check of whether a station is eligible for transmission becomes
  simpler (in ieee80211_txq_may_transmit()).

The drawback is that scheduling becomes slightly more expensive, as we
need to maintain an rbtree of TXQs sorted by virtual time. This means
that ieee80211_register_airtime() becomes O(logN) in the number of
currently scheduled TXQs because it can change the order of the
scheduled stations. We mitigate this overhead by only resorting when a
station changes position in the tree, and hopefully N rarely grows too
big (it's only TXQs currently backlogged, not all associated stations),
so it shouldn't be too big of an issue.

To prevent divisions in the fast path, we maintain both station sums and
pre-computed reciprocals of the sums. This turns the fast-path operation
into a multiplication, with divisions only happening as the number of
active stations change (to re-compute the current sum of all active
station weights). To prevent this re-computation of the reciprocal from
happening too frequently, we use a time-based notion of station
activity, instead of updating the weight every time a station gets
scheduled or de-scheduled. As queues can oscillate between empty and
occupied quite frequently, this can significantly cut down on the number
of re-computations. It also has the added benefit of making the station
airtime calculation independent on whether the queue happened to have
drained at the time an airtime value was accounted.

dd0b455381 mac80211: clear sta->fast_rx when STA removed from 4-addr VLAN
In some race conditions, with more clients and traffic configuration,
below crash is seen when making the interface down. sta->fast_rx wasn't
cleared when STA gets removed from 4-addr AP_VLAN interface. The crash is
due to try accessing 4-addr AP_VLAN interface's net_device (fast_rx->dev)
which has been deleted already.

Resolve this by clearing sta->fast_rx pointer when STA removes
from a 4-addr VLAN.

1944015fe9 mac80211: fix rate mask reset
Coverity reported the strange "if (~...)" condition that's
always true. It suggested that ! was intended instead of ~,
but upon further analysis I'm convinced that what really was
intended was a comparison to 0xff/0xffff (in HT/VHT cases
respectively), since this indicates that all of the rates
are enabled.

Change the comparison accordingly.

I'm guessing this never really mattered because a reset to
not having a rate mask is basically equivalent to having a
mask that enables all rates.

e3718a6114 cfg80211/mac80211: add mesh_param "mesh_nolearn" to skip path discovery
Currently, before being able to forward a packet between two 802.11s
nodes, both a PLINK handshake is performed upon receiving a beacon and
then later a PREQ/PREP exchange for path discovery is performed on
demand upon receiving a data frame to forward.

When running a mesh protocol on top of an 802.11s interface, like
batman-adv, we do not need the multi-hop mesh routing capabilities of
802.11s and usually set mesh_fwding=0. However, even with mesh_fwding=0
the PREQ/PREP path discovery is still performed on demand. Even though
in this scenario the next hop PREQ/PREP will determine is always the
direct 11s neighbor node.

The new mesh_nolearn parameter allows to skip the PREQ/PREP exchange in
this scenario, leading to a reduced delay, reduced packet buffering and
simplifies HWMP in general.

mesh_nolearn is still rather conservative in that if the packet destination
is not a direct 11s neighbor, it will fall back to PREQ/PREP path
discovery.

For normal, multi-hop 802.11s mesh routing it is usually not advisable
to enable mesh_nolearn as a transmission to a direct but distant neighbor
might be worse than reaching that same node via a more robust /
higher throughput etc. multi-hop path.

b6011960f3 mac80211: handle channel frequency offset
cfg80211_chan_def and ieee80211_channel recently gained a
frequency offset component. Handle this where it makes
sense (potentially required by S1G channels).

For IBSS, TDLS, CSA, and ROC we return -EOPNOTSUPP if a
channel with frequency offset is passed, since they may or
may not work. Once someone tests and verifies these
commands work on thos types of channels, we can remove
that error.

join_ocb and join_mesh look harmless because they use a
simple ieee80211_vif_use_channel(), which is using an
already verified channel, so we let those through.

6cd536fe62 cfg80211: change internal management frame registration API
Almost all drivers below cfg80211 get the API wrong (except for
cfg80211) and are unable to cope with multiple registrations for
the same frame type, which is valid due to the match filter.
This seems to indicate the API is wrong, and we should maintain
the full information in cfg80211 instead of the drivers.

Change the API to no longer inform the driver about individual
registrations and unregistrations, but rather every time about
the entire state of the entire wiphy and single wdev, whenever
it may have changed. This also simplifies the code in cfg80211
as it no longer has to track exactly what was unregistered and
can free things immediately.

f2b18baca9 mac80211: use more bits for ack_frame_id
It turns out that this wasn't a good idea, I hit a test failure in
hwsim due to this. That particular failure was easily worked around,
but it raised questions: if an AP needs to, for example, send action
frames to each connected station, the current limit is nowhere near
enough (especially if those stations are sleeping and the frames are
queued for a while.)

Shuffle around some bits to make more room for ack_frame_id to allow
up to 8192 queued up frames, that's enough for queueing 4 frames to
each connected station, even at the maximum of 2007 stations on a
single AP.

We take the bits from band (which currently only 2 but I leave 3 in
case we add another band) and from the hw_queue, which can only need
4 since it has a limit of 16 queues.

In case a radar event of CAC_FINISHED or RADAR_DETECTED

6912daed05 mac80211: Shrink the size of ack_frame_id to make room for tx_time_est
To implement airtime queue limiting, we need to keep a running account of
the estimated airtime of all skbs queued into the device. Do to this
correctly, we need to store the airtime estimate into the skb so we can
decrease the outstanding balance when the skb is freed. This means that the
time estimate must be stored somewhere that will survive for the lifetime
of the skb.

To get this, decrease the size of the ack_frame_id field to 6 bits, and
lower the size of the ID space accordingly. This leaves 10 bits for use for
tx_time_est, which is enough to store a maximum of 4096 us, if we shift the
values so they become units of 4us.

3e493173b7 mac80211: Do not send Layer 2 Update frame before authorization
The Layer 2 Update frame is used to update bridges when a station roams
to another AP even if that STA does not transmit any frames after the
reassociation. This behavior was described in IEEE Std 802.11F-2003 as
something that would happen based on MLME-ASSOCIATE.indication, i.e.,
before completing 4-way handshake. However, this IEEE trial-use
recommended practice document was published before RSN (IEEE Std
802.11i-2004) and as such, did not consider RSN use cases. Furthermore,
IEEE Std 802.11F-2003 was withdrawn in 2006 and as such, has not been
maintained amd should not be used anymore.

Sending out the Layer 2 Update frame immediately after association is
fine for open networks (and also when using SAE, FT protocol, or FILS
authentication when the station is actually authenticated by the time
association completes). However, it is not appropriate for cases where
RSN is used with PSK or EAP authentication since the station is actually
fully authenticated only once the 4-way handshake completes after
authentication and attackers might be able to use the unauthenticated
triggering of Layer 2 Update frame transmission to disrupt bridge
behavior.

Fix this by postponing transmission of the Layer 2 Update frame from
station entry addition to the point when the station entry is marked
authorized. Similarly, send out the VLAN binding update only if the STA
entry has already been authorized.

5fdb373570 net/mac80211: move WEP handling to ARC4 library interface
The WEP code in the mac80211 subsystem currently uses the crypto
API to access the arc4 (RC4) cipher, which is overly complicated,
and doesn't really have an upside in this particular case, since
ciphers are always synchronous and therefore always implemented in
software. Given that we have no accelerated software implementations
either, it is much more straightforward to invoke a generic library
interface directly.

bd718fc11d mac80211: use STA info in rate_control_send_low()
Even if we have a station, we currently call rate_control_send_low()
with the NULL station unless further rate control (driver, minstrel)
has been initialized.

Change this so we can use more information about the station to use
a better rate. For example, when we associate with an AP, we will
now use the lowest rate it advertised as supported (that we can)
rather than the lowest mandatory rate. This aligns our behaviour
with most other 802.11 implementations.

To make this possible, we need to also ensure that we have non-zero
rates at all times, so in case we really have *nothing* pre-fill
the supp_rates bitmap with the very lowest mandatory bitmap (11b
and 11a on 2.4 and 5 GHz respectively).

Additionally, hostapd appears to be giving us an empty supported
rates bitmap (it can and should do better, since the STA must have
supported for at least the basic rates in the BSS), so ignore any
such bitmaps that would actually zero out the supp_rates, and in
that case just keep the pre-filled mandatory rates.

8828f81ad4 mac80211: probe unexercised mesh links
The requirement for mesh link metric refreshing, is that from one
mesh point we be able to send some data frames to other mesh points
which are not currently selected as a primary traffic path, but which

makes it necessary to apply some form of marking on a chosen packet

83e37e0bdd mac80211: Restore vif beacon interval if start ap fails
The starting of AP interface can fail due to invalid
beacon interval, which does not match the minimum gcd
requirement set by the wifi driver. In such case, the
beacon interval of that interface gets updated with
that invalid beacon interval.

The next time that interface is brought up in AP mode,
an interface combination check is performed and the
beacon interval is taken from the previously set value.

In a case where an invalid beacon interval, i.e. a beacon
interval value which does not satisfy the minimum gcd criteria
set by the driver, is set, all the subsequent trials to
bring that interface in AP mode will fail, even if the
subsequent trials have a valid beacon interval.

To avoid this, in case of a failure in bringing up an
interface in AP mode due to interface combination error,
the interface beacon interval which is stored in bss
conf, needs to be restored with the last working value
of beacon interval.

Tested on ath10k using WCN3990.

b4809e9484 mac80211: Add airtime accounting and scheduling to TXQs
This adds airtime accounting and scheduling to the mac80211 TXQ
scheduler. A new callback, ieee80211_sta_register_airtime(), is added
that drivers can call to report airtime usage for stations.

When airtime information is present, mac80211 will schedule TXQs
(through ieee80211_next_txq()) in a way that enforces airtime fairness
between active stations. This scheduling works the same way as the ath9k
in-driver airtime fairness scheduling. If no airtime usage is reported
by the driver, the scheduler will default to round-robin scheduling.

For drivers that don't control TXQ scheduling in software, a new API
function, ieee80211_txq_may_transmit(), is added which the driver can use
to check if the TXQ is eligible for transmission, or should be throttled to
enforce fairness. Calls to this function must also be enclosed in
ieee80211_txq_schedule_{start,end}() calls to ensure proper locking.

The API ieee80211_txq_may_transmit() also ensures that TXQ list will be
aligned aginst driver's own round-robin scheduler list. i.e it rotates
the TXQ list till it makes the requested node becomes the first entry
in TXQ list. Thus both the TXQ list and driver's list are in sync.

133bf90dbb mac80211: restrict delayed tailroom needed decrement
As explained in ieee80211_delayed_tailroom_dec(), during roam,
keys of the old AP will be destroyed and new keys will be
installed. Deletion of the old key causes
crypto_tx_tailroom_needed_cnt to go from 1 to 0 and the new key
installation causes a transition from 0 to 1.

Whenever crypto_tx_tailroom_needed_cnt transitions from 0 to 1,
we invoke synchronize_net(); the reason for doing this is to avoid
a race in the TX path as explained in increment_tailroom_need_count().
This synchronize_net() operation can be slow and can affect the station
roam time. To avoid this, decrementing the crypto_tx_tailroom_needed_cnt
is delayed for a while so that upon installation of new key the
transition would be from 1 to 2 instead of 0 to 1 and thereby
improving the roam time.

This is all correct for a STA iftype, but deferring the tailroom_needed
decrement for other iftypes may be unnecessary.

For example, let's consider the case of a 4-addr client connecting to
an AP for which AP_VLAN interface is also created, let the initial
value for tailroom_needed on the AP be 1.

* 4-addr client connects to the AP (AP: tailroom_needed = 1)
* AP will clear old keys, delay decrement of tailroom_needed count
* AP_VLAN is created, it takes the tailroom count from master
  (AP_VLAN: tailroom_needed = 1, AP: tailroom_needed = 1)
* Install new key for the station, assume key is plumbed in the HW,
there won't be any change in tailroom_needed count on AP iface
* Delayed decrement of tailroom_needed count on AP
  (AP: tailroom_needed = 0, AP_VLAN: tailroom_needed = 1)

Because of the delayed decrement on AP iface, tailroom_needed count goes
out of sync between AP(master iface) and AP_VLAN(slave iface) and
there would be unnecessary tailroom created for the packets going
through AP_VLAN iface.

Also, WARN_ONs were observed while trying to bring down the AP_VLAN
interface:
(warn_slowpath_common) (warn_slowpath_null+0x18/0x20)
(warn_slowpath_null) (ieee80211_free_keys+0x114/0x1e4)
(ieee80211_free_keys) (ieee80211_del_virtual_monitor+0x51c/0x850)
(ieee80211_del_virtual_monitor) (ieee80211_stop+0x30/0x3c)
(ieee80211_stop) (__dev_close_many+0x94/0xb8)
(__dev_close_many) (dev_close_many+0x5c/0xc8)

Restricting delayed decrement to station interface alone fixes the problem
and it makes sense to do so because delayed decrement is done to improve
roam time which is applicable only for client devices.

e552af0581 mac80211: limit wmm params to comply with ETSI requirements
ETSI has recently added new requirements that restrict the WMM

following scenarios in order to comply with these new requirements:

1. When using mac80211 default values;
2. When the userspace tries to configure its own values;
3. When associating to an AP which advertises WWM IE.

When associating to an AP, the client uses the values in the
advertised WMM IE. But the AP may not comply with the new ETSI
requirements, so the client needs to check the current regulatory
rules and use those limits accordingly.

4df864c1d9 networking: make skb_put & friends return void pointers
It seems like a historic accident that these return unsigned char *,
and in many places that means casts are required, more often than not.

Make these functions (skb_put, __skb_put and pskb_put) return void *
and remove all the casts across the tree, adding a (u8 *) cast only
where the unsigned char pointer was used directly, all done with the
following spatch:

    identifier fn = { skb_put, __skb_put };
    type T;
    @@
    - E = ((T *)(fn(SKB, LEN)))
    + E = fn(SKB, LEN)

which actually doesn't cover pskb_put since there are only three
users overall.

A handful of stragglers were converted manually, notably a macro in

b3dd827965 mac80211: don't send SMPS action frame in AP mode when not needed
mac80211 allows to modify the SMPS state of an AP both,
when it is started, and after it has been started. Such a
change will trigger an action frame to all the peers that
are currently connected, and will be remembered so that
new peers will get notified as soon as they connect (since
the SMPS setting in the beacon may not be the right one).

This means that we need to remember the SMPS state
currently requested as well as the SMPS state that was
configured initially (and advertised in the beacon).
The former is bss->req_smps and the latter is
sdata->smps_mode.

Initially, the AP interface could only be started with
SMPS_OFF, which means that sdata->smps_mode was SMPS_OFF
always. Later, a nl80211 API was added to be able to start
an AP with a different AP mode. That code forgot to update
bss->req_smps and because of that, if the AP interface was
started with SMPS_DYNAMIC, we had:
   sdata->smps_mode = SMPS_DYNAMIC
   bss->req_smps = SMPS_OFF

That configuration made mac80211 think it needs to fire off
an action frame to any new station connecting to the AP in
order to let it know that the actual SMPS configuration is
SMPS_OFF.

Fix that by properly setting bss->req_smps in
ieee80211_start_ap.

21a8e9dd52 mac80211: Fix possible sband related NULL pointer de-reference
Existing API 'ieee80211_get_sdata_band' returns default 2 GHz band even
if the channel context configuration is NULL. This crashes for chipsets
which support 5 Ghz alone when it tries to access members of 'sband'.
Channel context configuration can be NULL in multivif case and when
channel switch is in progress (or) when it fails. Fix this by replacing
the API 'ieee80211_get_sdata_band' with 'ieee80211_get_sband' which
returns a NULL pointer for sband when the channel configuration is NULL.

An example scenario is as below:

In multivif mode (AP + STA) with drivers like ath10k, when we do a
channel switch in the AP vif (which has a number of clients connected)
and a STA vif which is connected to some other AP, when the channel
switch in AP vif fails, while the STA vifs tries to connect to the
other AP, there is a window where the channel context is NULL/invalid
and this results in a crash while the clients connected to the AP vif
tries to reconnect and this race is very similar to the one investigated
by Michal in https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/3788161/ and this does
happens with hardware that supports 5Ghz alone after long hours of
testing with continuous channel switch on the AP vif

e8e4f5280d mac80211: reject/clear user rate mask if not usable
If the user rate mask results in no (basic) rates being usable,
clear it. Also, if we're already operating when it's set, reject
it instead.

Technically, selecting basic rates as the criterion is a bit too
restrictive, but calculating the usable rates over all stations
(e.g. in AP mode) is harder, and all stations must support the
basic rates. Similarly, in client mode, the basic rates will be
used anyway for control frames.

This fixes the "no supported rates (...) in rate_mask ..." warning
that occurs on TX when you've selected a rate mask that's not
compatible with the connection (e.g. an AP that enables only the
rates 36, 48, 54 and you've selected only 6, 9, 12.)

8585989d14 cfg80211: fix NAN bands definition
The nl80211_nan_dual_band_conf enumeration doesn't make much sense.
The default value is assigned to a bit, which makes it weird if the
default bit and other bits are set at the same time.

To improve this, get rid of NL80211_NAN_BAND_DEFAULT and add a wiphy
configuration to let the drivers define which bands are supported.
This is exposed to the userspace, which then can make a decision on
which band(s) to use. Additionally, rename all "dual_band" elements

ebceec860f mac80211: multicast to unicast conversion
Add the ability for an AP (and associated VLANs) to perform
multicast-to-unicast conversion for ARP, IPv4 and IPv6 frames
(possibly within 802.1Q). If enabled, such frames are to be sent
to each station separately, with the DA replaced by their own
MAC address rather than the group address.

Note that this may break certain expectations of the receiver,
such as the ability to drop unicast IP packets received within
multicast L2 frames, or the ability to not send ICMP destination
unreachable messages for packets received in L2 multicast (which
is required, but the receiver can't tell the difference if this
new option is enabled.)

This also doesn't implement the 802.11 DMS (directed multicast

72f15d53f3 mac80211: filter multicast data packets on AP / AP_VLAN
This patch adds filtering for multicast data packets on AP_VLAN
interfaces that have no authorized station connected and changes
filtering on AP interfaces to not count stations assigned to
AP_VLAN interfaces.

This saves airtime and avoids waking up other stations currently
authorized in this BSS. When using WPA, the packets dropped could
not be decrypted by any station.

The behaviour when there are no AP_VLAN interfaces is left unchanged.

When there are AP_VLAN interfaces, this patch
1. adds filtering multicast data packets sent on AP_VLAN interfaces
that have no authorized station connected.
No filtering happens on 4addr AP_VLAN interfaces.
2. makes filtering of multicast data packets sent on AP interfaces
depend on the number of authorized stations in this bss not
   assigned to an AP_VLAN interface.

Therefore, a new num_mcast_sta counter is added for AP_VLAN interfaces.
The existing one for AP interfaces is altered to not track stations
assigned to an AP_VLAN interface.

The new counter is exposed in debugfs.

49ddf8e6e2 mac80211: add fast-rx path
The regular RX path has a lot of code, but with a few
assumptions on the hardware it's possible to reduce the
amount of code significantly. Currently the assumptions
on the driver are the following:
 * hardware/driver reordering buffer (if supporting aggregation)
 * hardware/driver decryption & PN checking (if using encryption)
 * hardware/driver did de-duplication
 * hardware/driver did A-MSDU deaggregation
 * AP_LINK_PS is used (in AP mode)
 * no client powersave handling in mac80211 (in client mode)

of which some are actually checked per packet:
 * de-duplication
 * PN checking
 * decryption
and additionally packets must
 * not be A-MSDU (have been deaggregated by driver/device)
 * be data packets
 * not be fragmented
 * be unicast
 * have RFC 1042 header

Additionally dynamically we assume:
 * no encryption or CCMP/GCMP, TKIP/WEP/other not allowed
 * station must be authorized
 * 4-addr format not enabled

Some data needed for the RX path is cached in a new per-station
"fast_rx" structure, so that we only need to look at this and
the packet, no other memory when processing packets on the fast
RX path.

After doing the above per-packet checks, the data path collapses
down to a pretty simple conversion function taking advantage of
the data cached in the small fast_rx struct.

This should speed up the RX processing, and will make it easier
to reason about parallelizing RX (for which statistics will need
to be per-CPU still.)

f8079d43cf mac80211: move TKIP TX IVs to public part of key struct
Some drivers/devices might want to set the IVs by
themselves (and still let mac80211 generate MMIC).

Specifically, this is needed when the device does
offloading at certain times, and the driver has
to make sure that the IVs of new tx frames (from
the host) are synchronized with IVs that were
potentially used during the offloading.

Similarly to CCMP, move the TX IVs of TKIP keys to the
public part of the key struct, and export a function
to add the IV right into the crypto header.

The public tx_pn field is defined as atomic64, so define
TKIP_PN_TO_IV16/32 helper macros to convert it to iv16/32
when needed.

Since the iv32 used for the p1k cache is taken
directly from the frame, we can safely remove
iv16/32 from being protected by tkip.txlock.

bda95eb1d1 cfg80211: handle add_station auth/assoc flag quirks
When a new station is added to AP/GO interfaces the default behaviour
is for it to be added authenticated and associated, due to backwards
compatibility. To prevent that, the driver must be able to do that
(setting the NL80211_FEATURE_FULL_AP_CLIENT_STATE feature flag) and
userspace must set the flag mask to auth|assoc and clear the set.

Handle this quirk in the API entirely in nl80211, and always push the
full flags to the drivers. NL80211_FEATURE_FULL_AP_CLIENT_STATE is
still required for userspace to be allowed to set the mask including
those bits, but after checking that add both flags to the mask and
set in case userspace didn't set them otherwise.

This obsoletes the mac80211 code handling this difference, no other
driver is currently using these flags.

c1df932c05 mac80211: fix off-channel mgmt-tx uninitialized variable usage
In the last change here, I neglected to update the cookie in one code
path: when a mgmt-tx has no real cookie sent to userspace as it doesn't
wait for a response, but is off-channel. The original code used the SKB
pointer as the cookie and always assigned the cookie to the TX SKB in
ieee80211_start_roc_work(), but my change turned this around and made
the code rely on a valid cookie being passed in.

Unfortunately, the off-channel no-wait TX path wasn't assigning one at
all, resulting in an uninitialized stack value being used. This wasn't
handed back to userspace as a cookie (since in the no-wait case there
isn't a cookie), but it was tested for non-zero to distinguish between
mgmt-tx and off-channel.

Fix this by assigning a dummy non-zero cookie unconditionally, and get
rid of a misleading comment and some dead code while at it. I'll clean
up the ACK SKB handling separately later.

babc305e21 mac80211: reset CQM history upon reconfiguration
The current behavior of notifying CQM events is inconsistent:
Upon first configuration there is a cqm event with the current
status according to threshold configured, regardless of signal
stability.
When there is reconfiguration no event is sent unless there is
a significant change to the signal level according to the new
configuration.

Since the current reconfiguration behavior might cause missing
CQM events in case the current signal did not change but is on
the other side of the new threshold, fix that by resetting the
stored signal level upon reconfiguration.

d51c2ea370 mac80211: TDLS: correctly configure SMPS state
The IEEE802.11-2012 specification is vague regarding SMPS operation during
TDLS. It does not define a clear way to transition between SMPS states.

To avoid interop issues, set SMPS to off when TDLS peers are connected.
Accomplish this by extending the definition of the AUTOMATIC state. If the
driver forces a state other than OFF, disconnect all TDLS peers.

While at it, avoid changing the SMPS state of the peer STA. We have no
way to control it, so try and behave correctly towards it.

Allow a device to specify support for the TDLS wider-bandwidth feature.
Indicate this support during TDLS setup in the ext-capab IE and set an

This feature gives TDLS peers the ability to use a wider channel than
the base width of the BSS. For instance VHT capable TDLS peers connected

considerations allow it.

db388a567f mac80211: move TX PN to public part of key struct
For drivers supporting TSO or similar features, but that still have
PN assignment in software, there's a need to have some memory to
store the current PN value. As mac80211 already stores this and it's
somewhat complicated to add a per-driver area to the key struct (due
to the dynamic sizing thereof) it makes sense to just move the TX PN
to the keyconf, i.e. the public part of the key struct.

As TKIP is more complicated and we won't able to offload it in this
way right now (fast-xmit is skipped for TKIP unless the HW does it
all, and our hardware needs MMIC calculation in software) I've not
moved that for now - it's possible but requires exposing a lot of
the internal TKIP state.

As an bonus side effect, we can remove a lot of code by assuming the
keyseq struct has a certain layout - with BUILD_BUG_ON to verify it.

This might also improve performance, since now TX and RX no longer
share a cacheline.

252ec2b3aa mac80211: don't split remain-on-channel for coalescing
Due to remain-on-channel scheduling delays, when we split an ROC
while coalescing, we'll usually get a picture like this:

existing ROC: |------------------|
current time: ^
new ROC: |------| |-------|

If the expected response frames are then transmitted by the peer
in the hole between the two fragments of the new ROC, we miss
them and the process (e.g. ANQP query) fails.

mac80211 expects that the window to miss something is small:

existing ROC: |------------------|
new ROC:                   |------||-------|

but that's normally not the case.

To avoid this problem, coalesce only if the new ROC's duration
is <= the remaining time on the existing one:

existing ROC: |------------------|
new ROC: |-----|

and never split a new one but schedule it afterwards instead:

464daaf04c mac80211: check fast-xmit on station change
Drivers with fast-xmit (e.g. ath10k) running in
AP_VLAN setups would fail to communicate with
connected 4addr stations.

The reason was when new station associates it
first goes into master AP interface. It is not
until later that a dedicated AP_VLAN is created
for it and the station itself is moved there.
After that Tx directed at the station should use
4addr header. However fast-xmit wasn't
recalculated and 3addr header remained to be used.
This in turn caused the connected 4addr stations
to drop packets coming from the AP until some
other event would cause fast-xmit to recalculate
for that station (which could never come).

it when building the header and use it later in the TX path.

To avoid having to look up the station in the many callers, allow
those to pass %NULL which keeps the existing lookup.

b51f3beecf cfg80211: change bandwidth reporting to explicit field
For some reason, we made the bandwidth separate flags, which
is rather confusing - a single rate cannot have different
bandwidths at the same time.

Change this to no longer be flags but use a separate field
for the bandwidth ('bw') instead.

While at it, add support for 5 and 10 MHz rates - these are
reported as regular legacy rates with their real bitrate,
but tagged as 5/10 now to make it easier to distinguish them.

In the nl80211 API, the flags are preserved, but the code
now can also clearly only set a single one of the flags.

3b24f4c653 mac80211: let flush() drop packets when possible
When roaming / suspending, it makes no sense to wait until
the transmit queues of the device are empty. In extreme
condition they can be starved (VO saturating the air), but
even in regular cases, it is pointless to delay the roaming
because the low level driver is trying to send packets to
an AP which is far away. We'd rather drop these packets and
let TCP retransmit if needed. This will allow to speed up
the roaming.

For suspend, the explanation is even more trivial.

239281f803 mac80211: 802.11p OCB mode support
This patch adds 802.11p OCB (Outside the Context of a BSS) mode
support.

When communicating in OCB mode a mandatory wildcard BSSID
(48 '1' bits) is used.

The EDCA parameters handling function was changed to support
802.11p specific values.

The insertion of a newly discovered STAs is done in the similar way
as in the IBSS mode -- through the deferred insertion.

The OCB mode uses a periodic 'housekeeping task' for expiration of
disconnected STAs (in the similar manner as in the MESH mode).

New Kconfig option for verbose OCB debugging outputs is added.

02219b3abc mac80211: add WMM admission control support
Use the currently existing APIs between mac80211 and the low
level driver to implement WMM admission control.

The low level driver needs to report the media time used by
each transmitted packet in ieee80211_tx_status. Based on that
information, mac80211 will modify the QoS parameters of the
admission controlled Access Category when the limit is
reached. Once the original QoS parameters can be restored,
mac80211 will do so.

One issue with this approach is that management frames will
also erroneously be downgraded, but the upside is that the
implementation is simple. In the future, it can be extended
to driver- or device-based implementations that are better.

cca674d47e mac80211: export the expected throughput
Add get_expected_throughput() API to mac80211 so that each
driver can implement its own version based on the RC
algorithm they are using (might be using an HW RC algo).
The API returns a value expressed in Kbps.

Also, add the new get_expected_throughput() member
to the rate_control_ops structure in order to be
able to query the RC algorithm (this patch provides an
implementation of this API for both minstrel and
minstrel_ht).

The related member in the station_info object is now
filled accordingly when dumping a station.

1af586c911 mac80211: Handle the CSA counters correctly
Make the beacon CSA counters part of ieee80211_mutable_offsets and don't
decrement CSA counters when generating a beacon template. This permits the
driver to offload the CSA counters handling. Since mac80211 updates the probe
responses with the correct counter, the driver should sync the counter's value
with mac80211 using ieee80211_csa_update_counter function.
