RCU use in bond_should_notify_peers() looks wrong, since it does
rcu_dereference(), leaves the critical section, and uses the
pointer after that.
Luckily, it's called either inside a nested RCU critical section
or with the RTNL held.
Annotate it with rcu_dereference_rtnl() instead, and remove the
inner RCU critical section.

In prevision to add new UAPI for hwtstamp we will be limited to the struct
ethtool_ts_info that is currently passed in fixed binary format through the
ETHTOOL_GET_TS_INFO ethtool ioctl. It would be good if new kernel code
already started operating on an extensible kernel variant of that
structure, similar in concept to struct kernel_hwtstamp_config vs struct
hwtstamp_config.
Since struct ethtool_ts_info is in include/uapi/linux/ethtool.h, here
we introduce the kernel-only structure in include/linux/ethtool.h.
The manual copy is then made in the function called by ETHTOOL_GET_TS_INFO.

The __ethtool_get_ts_info function returns directly if the device has a
get_ts_info() method. For bonding with an active slave, this works correctly
as we simply return the real device's timestamping information. However,
when there is no active slave, we only check the slave's TX software
timestamp information. We still need to set the phc index and RX timestamp
information manually. Otherwise, the result will be look like:

Add a "scope" parameter to ip_route_output() so that callers don't have
to override the tos parameter with the RTO_ONLINK flag if they want a
local scope.
This will allow converting flowi4_tos to dscp_t in the future, thus
allowing static analysers to flag invalid interactions between
"tos" (the DSCP bits) and ECN.
Only three users ask for local scope (bonding, arp and atm). The others
continue to use RT_SCOPE_UNIVERSE. While there, add a comment to warn
users about the limitations of ip_route_output().

Commit 9b0ed890ac ("bonding: do not report NETDEV_XDP_ACT_XSK_ZEROCOPY")
changed the driver from reporting everything as supported before a device
was bonded into having the driver report that no XDP feature is supported
until a real device is bonded as it seems to be more truthful given
eventually real underlying devices decide what XDP features are supported.
The change however did not take into account when all slave devices get
removed from the bond device. In this case after 9b0ed890ac, the driver
keeps reporting a feature mask of 0x77, that is, NETDEV_XDP_ACT_MASK &
~NETDEV_XDP_ACT_XSK_ZEROCOPY whereas it should have reported a feature
mask of 0.
Fix it by resetting XDP feature flags in the same way as if no XDP program
is attached to the bond device. This was uncovered by the XDP bond selftest
which let BPF CI fail. After adjusting the starting masks on the latter
to 0 instead of NETDEV_XDP_ACT_MASK the test passes again together with
this fix.

Through the routine bond_mii_monitor(), bonding driver inspects and commits
the slave state changes. During the times when slave state change and
failure in aqcuiring rtnl lock happen at the same time, the routine
bond_mii_monitor() reschedules itself to come around after 1 msec to commit
the new state.
During this, it executes the routine bond_miimon_inspect() to re-inspect
the state chane and prints the corresponding slave state on to the console.
Hence we do see a message at every 1 msec till the rtnl lock is acquired
and state chage is committed.
This patch doesn't change how bond functions. It only simply limits this
kind of log flood.

Do not report the XDP capability NETDEV_XDP_ACT_XSK_ZEROCOPY as the
bonding driver does not support XDP and AF_XDP in zero-copy mode even
if the real NIC drivers do.
Note that the driver used to report everything as supported before a
device was bonded. Instead of just masking out the zero-copy support
from this, have the driver report that no XDP feature is supported
until a real device is bonded. This seems to be more truthful as it is
the real drivers that decide what XDP features are supported.

exit_batch_rtnl() is called while RTNL is held,
and devices to be unregistered can be queued in the dev_kill_list.
This saves one rtnl_lock()/rtnl_unlock() pair,
and one unregister_netdevice_many() call.

Add support for the independent control state machine per IEEE
802.1AX-2008 5.4.15 in addition to the existing implementation of the
coupled control state machine.
Introduces two new states, AD_MUX_COLLECTING and AD_MUX_DISTRIBUTING in
the LACP MUX state machine for separated handling of an initial
Collecting state before the Collecting and Distributing state. This
enables a port to be in a state where it can receive incoming packets
while not still distributing. This is useful for reducing packet loss when
a port begins distributing before its partner is able to collect.
Added new functions such as bond_set_slave_tx_disabled_flags and
bond_set_slave_rx_enabled_flags to precisely manage the port's collecting
and distributing states. Previously, there was no dedicated method to
disable TX while keeping RX enabled, which this patch addresses.
Note that the regular flow process in the kernel's bonding driver remains
unaffected by this patch. The extension requires explicit opt-in by the
user (in order to ensure no disruptions for existing setups) via netlink
support using the new bonding parameter coupled_control. The default value
for coupled_control is set to 1 so as to preserve existing behaviour.

If failed to allocate "tags" or could not find the final upper device from
start_dev's upper list in bond_verify_device_path(), only the loopback
detection of the current upper device should be affected, and the system is
no need to be panic.
So return -ENOMEM in alb_upper_dev_walk to stop walking, print some warn
information when failed to allocate memory for vlan tags in
bond_verify_device_path.

Since 429e3d123d ("bonding: Fix extraction of ports from the packet
headers"), header offsets used to compute a hash in bond_xmit_hash() are
relative to skb->data and not skb->head. If the tail of the header buffer
of an skb really needs to be advanced and the operation is successful, the
pointer to the data must be returned (and not a pointer to the head of the
buffer).

Andrew reported a bonding issue that if we put an active-back bond on top
of a 802.3ad bond interface. When the 802.3ad bond's speed/duplex changed
dynamically. The upper bonding interface's speed/duplex can't be changed at
the same time, which will show incorrect speed.
Fix it by updating the port speed when calling ethtool.

In bond_reset_slave_arr(), values are assigned and memory is released only
when the variables "usable" and "all" are not NULL. But even if the
"usable" and "all" variables are NULL, they can still work, because value
will be checked in kfree_rcu. Therefore, use bond_set_slave_arr() and set
the input parameters "usable_slaves" and "all_slaves" to NULL to simplify
the code in bond_reset_slave_arr(). And the same to bond_uninit().

bonding is one of the stackable net devices which pass the hardware
timestamping ops to the real device through ndo_eth_ioctl(). This
prevents converting any device driver to the new hwtimestamping API
without regressions.
Remove that limitation in bonding by using the newly introduced helpers
for timestamping through lower devices, that handle both the new and the
old driver API.

When adding a point to point downlink to the bond, we neglected to reset
the bond's flags, which were still using flags like BROADCAST and
MULTICAST. Consequently, this would initiate ARP/DAD for P2P downlink
interfaces, such as when adding a GRE device to the bonding.
To address this issue, let's reset the bond's flags for P2P interfaces.

All callers of tls_is_sk_tx_device_offloaded() currently do
an equivalent of:
if (skb->sk && tls_is_skb_tx_device_offloaded(skb->sk))
Have the helper accept skb and do the skb->sk check locally.
Two drivers have local static inlines with similar wrappers
already.
While at it change the ifdef condition to TLS_DEVICE.
Only TLS_DEVICE selects SOCK_VALIDATE_XMIT, so the two are
equivalent. This makes removing the duplicated IS_ENABLED()
check in funeth more obviously correct.

When the virtual interface's feature is updated, it synchronizes the
updated feature for its own lower interface.
This propagation logic should be worked as the iteration, not recursively.
But it works recursively due to the netdev notification unexpectedly.
This problem occurs when it disables LRO only for the team and bonding
interface type.

If team0's LRO feature is updated, it generates the NETDEV_FEAT_CHANGE
event to its own lower interfaces(team1 ~ team200).
It is worked by netdev_sync_lower_features().
So, the NETDEV_FEAT_CHANGE notification logic of each lower interface
work iteratively.
But generated NETDEV_FEAT_CHANGE event is also sent to the upper
interface too.
upper interface(team0) generates the NETDEV_FEAT_CHANGE event for its own
lower interfaces again.
lower and upper interfaces receive this event and generate this
event again and again.
So, the stack overflow occurs.
But it is not the infinite loop issue.
Because the netdev_sync_lower_features() updates features before
generating the NETDEV_FEAT_CHANGE event.
Already synchronized lower interfaces skip notification logic.
So, it is just the problem that iteration logic is changed to the
recursive unexpectedly due to the notification mechanism.

The type of the vlan_proto field is __be16.
And most users of the field use it as such.
In the case of setting or testing the field for the special VLAN_N_VID
value, host byte order is used. Which seems incorrect.
It also seems somewhat odd to store a VLAN ID value in a field that is
otherwise used to store Ether types.
Address this issue by defining BOND_VLAN_PROTO_NONE, a big endian value.
0xffff was chosen somewhat arbitrarily. What is important is that it
doesn't overlap with any valid VLAN Ether types.
I don't believe the problems described above are a bug because
VLAN_N_VID in both little-endian and big-endian byte order does not
conflict with any supported VLAN Ether types in big-endian byte order.

Introduce xdp_features support for bonding driver according to the slave
devices attached to the master one. xdp_features is required whenever we
want to xdp_redirect traffic into a bond device and then into selected
slaves attached to it.

When a net device is put administratively up, its 'IFF_UP' flag is set
(if not set already) and a 'NETDEV_UP' notification is emitted, which
causes the 8021q driver to add VLAN ID 0 on the device. The reverse
happens when a net device is put administratively down.
When changing the type of a bond to Ethernet, its 'IFF_UP' flag is
incorrectly cleared, resulting in the kernel skipping the above process
and VLAN ID 0 being leaked [1].
Fix by restoring the flag when changing the type to Ethernet, in a
similar fashion to the restoration of the 'IFF_SLAVE' flag.
The issue can be reproduced using the script in [2], with example out
before and after the fix in [3].

Currently, bonding only obtain the timestamp (ts) information of
the active slave, which is available only for modes 1, 5, and 6.
For other modes, bonding only has software rx timestamping support.
However, some users who use modes such as LACP also want tx timestamp
support. To address this issue, let's check the ts information of each
slave. If all slaves support tx timestamping, we can enable tx
timestamping support for the bond.
Add a note that the get_ts_info may be called with RCU, or rtnl or
reference on the device in ethtool.h>

When arp_validate is set to 2, 3, or 6, validation is performed for
backup slaves as well. As stated in the bond documentation, validation
involves checking the broadcast ARP request sent out via the active
slave. This helps determine which slaves are more likely to function in
the event of an active slave failure.
However, when the target is an IPv6 address, the NS message sent from
the active interface is not checked on backup slaves. Additionally,
based on the bond_arp_rcv() rule b, we must reverse the saddr and daddr
when checking the NS message.
Note that when checking the NS message, the destination address is a
multicast address. Therefore, we must convert the target address to
solicited multicast in the bond_get_targets_ip6() function.
Prior to the fix, the backup slaves had a mii status of "down", but
after the fix, all of the slaves' mii status was updated to "UP".

Add bond_ether_setup helper which is used to fix ether_setup() calls in the
bonding driver. It takes care of both IFF_MASTER and IFF_SLAVE flags, the
former is always restored and the latter only if it was set.
If the bond enslaves non-ARPHRD_ETHER device (changes its type), then
releases it and enslaves ARPHRD_ETHER device (changes back) then we
use ether_setup() to restore the bond device type but it also resets its
flags and removes IFF_MASTER and IFF_SLAVE[1]. Use the bond_ether_setup
helper to restore both after such transition.

Currently, when a high prio link enslaved, or when current link down,
the high prio port could be selected. But when high prio link up, the
new active slave reselection is not triggered. Fix it by checking link's
prio when getting up. Making the do_failover after looping all slaves as
there may be multi high prio slaves up.

Currently, in bonding it reused the IFF_SLAVE flag and checked it
in ipv6 addrconf to prevent ipv6 addrconf.
However, it is not a proper flag to use for no ipv6 addrconf, for
bonding it has to move IFF_SLAVE flag setting ahead of dev_open()
in bond_enslave(). Also, IFF_MASTER/SLAVE are historical flags
used in bonding and eql, as Jiri mentioned, the new devices like
Team, Failover do not use this flag.
So as Jiri suggested, this patch adds IFF_NO_ADDRCONF in priv_flags
of the device to indicate no ipv6 addconf, and uses it in bonding
and moves IFF_SLAVE flag setting back to its original place.

In commit 4d633d1b46 ("bonding: fix ICMPv6 header handling when receiving
IPv6 messages"), there is a copy/paste issue for NA daddr. I found that
in my testing and fixed it in my local branch. But I forgot to re-format
the patch and sent the wrong mail.
Fix it by reading the correct dest address.

Before this change when a bond in mode 2 lost link, all of its slaves
lost link, the bonding device would never recover even after the
expiration of updelay. This change removes the updelay when the bond
currently has no usable links. Conforming to bonding.txt section 13.1
paragraph 4.

Currently, we get icmp6hdr via function icmp6_hdr(), which needs the skb
transport header to be set first. But there is no rule to ask driver set
transport header before netif_receive_skb() and bond_handle_frame(). So
we will not able to get correct icmp6hdr on some drivers.
Fix this by using skb_header_pointer to get the IPv6 and ICMPV6 headers.

Bond agnostically interacts with TLS device-offload requests via the
.ndo_sk_get_lower_dev operation. Return value is true iff bond
guarantees fixed mapping between the TLS connection and a lower netdev.
Due to this nature, the bond TLS device offload features are not
explicitly controllable in the bond layer. As of today, these are
read-only values based on the evaluation of bond_sk_check(). However,
this indication might be incorrect and misleading, when the feature bits
are "fixed" by some dependency features. For example,
NETIF_F_HW_TLS_TX/RX are forcefully cleared in case the corresponding
checksum offload is disabled. But in fact the bond ability to still
offload TLS connections to the lower device is not hurt.
This means that these bits can not be trusted, and hence better become
unused.
This patch revives some old discussion [1] and proposes a much simpler
solution: Clear the bond's TLS features bits. Everyone should stop
reading them.

The prandom_u32() function has been a deprecated inline wrapper around
get_random_u32() for several releases now, and compiles down to the
exact same code. Replace the deprecated wrapper with a direct call to
the real function. The same also applies to get_random_int(), which is
just a wrapper around get_random_u32(). This was done as a basic find
and replace.

Netdev drivers are expected to call dev_{uc,mc}_sync() in their
ndo_set_rx_mode method and dev_{uc,mc}_unsync() in their ndo_stop method.
This is mentioned in the kerneldoc for those dev_* functions.
The bonding driver calls dev_{uc,mc}_unsync() during ndo_uninit instead of
ndo_stop. This is ineffective because address lists (dev->{uc,mc}) have
already been emptied in unregister_netdevice_many() before ndo_uninit is
called. This mistake can result in addresses being leftover on former bond
slaves after a bond has been deleted; see test_LAG_cleanup() in the last
patch in this series.
Add unsync calls, via bond_hw_addr_flush(), at their expected location,
bond_close().
Add dev_mc_add() call to bond_open() to match the above change.

the bond is up. In other cases, it is taken care of at the right time by

There are already a few definitions of arrays containing
MULTICAST_LACPDU_ADDR and the next patch will add one more use. These all
contain the same constant data so define one common instance for all
bonding code.

When ns_ip6_target was set, the ipv6_dev_get_saddr() will be called to get
available source address and send IPv6 neighbor solicit message.
If the target is global address, ipv6_dev_get_saddr() will get any
available src address. But if the target is link local address,
ipv6_dev_get_saddr() will only get available address from our interface,
i.e. the corresponding bond interface.
But before bond interface up, all the address is tentative, while
ipv6_dev_get_saddr() will ignore tentative address. This makes we can't
find available link local src address, then bond_ns_send() will not be
called and no NS message was sent. Finally bond interface will keep in
down state.
Fix this by sending NS with unspecified address if there is no available
source address.

The value is only ever set once in bond_3ad_initialize and only ever
read otherwise. There seems to be no reason to set the variable via
bond_3ad_initialize when setting the global variable will do. Change
ad_ticks_per_sec to a const to enforce its read-only usage.

Currently, tls_device_down synchronizes with tls_device_resync_rx using
RCU, however, the pointer to netdev is stored using WRITE_ONCE and
loaded using READ_ONCE.
Although such approach is technically correct (rcu_dereference is
essentially a READ_ONCE, and rcu_assign_pointer uses WRITE_ONCE to store
NULL), using special RCU helpers for pointers is more valid, as it
includes additional checks and might change the implementation
transparently to the callers.
Mark the netdev pointer as __rcu and use the correct RCU helpers to
access it. For non-concurrent access pass the right conditions that
guarantee safe access (locks taken, refcount value). Also use the
correct helper in mlx5e, where even READ_ONCE was missing.
The transition to RCU exposes existing issues, fixed by this commit:
1. bond_tls_device_xmit could read netdev twice, and it could become
NULL the second time, after the NULL check passed.
2. Drivers shouldn't stop processing the last packet if tls_device_down
just set netdev to NULL, before tls_dev_del was called. This prevents a
possible packet drop when transitioning to the fallback software mode.

The bonding driver piggybacks on time stamps kept by the network stack
for the purpose of the netdev TX watchdog, and this is problematic
because it does not work with NETIF_F_LLTX devices.
It is hard to say why the driver looks at dev_trans_start() of the
slave->dev, considering that this is updated even by non-ARP/NS probes
sent by us, and even by traffic not sent by us at all (for example PTP
on physical slave devices). ARP monitoring in active-backup mode appears
to still work even if we track only the last TX time of actual ARP
probes.

Add per port priority support for bonding active slave re-selection during
failover. A higher number means higher priority in selection. The primary
slave still has the highest priority. This option also follows the
primary_reselect rules.
This option could only be configured via netlink.

The bonding ARP monitor fails to decrement send_peer_notif, the
number of peer notifications (gratuitous ARP or ND) to be sent. This
results in a continuous series of notifications.
Correct this by decrementing the counter for each notification.

Guard ns_targets in struct bond_params by CONFIG_IPV6, which could save
256 bytes if IPv6 not configed. Also add this protection for function
bond_is_ip6_target_ok() and bond_get_targets_ip6().
Remove the IS_ENABLED() check for bond_opts[] as this will make
BOND_OPT_NS_TARGETS uninitialized if CONFIG_IPV6 not enabled. Add
a dummy bond_option_ns_ip6_targets_set() for this situation.

Before adding yet another possibly contended atomic_long_t,
it is time to add per-cpu storage for existing ones:
dev->tx_dropped, dev->rx_dropped, and dev->rx_nohandler
Because many devices do not have to increment such counters,
allocate the per-cpu storage on demand, so that dev_get_stats()
does not have to spend considerable time folding zero counters.
Note that some drivers have abused these counters which
were supposed to be only used by core networking stack.

In __bond_release_one(), bond_set_carrier() is only called when bond
device has no slave. Therefore, if we remove the up slave from a master
with two slaves and keep the down slave, the master will remain up.
Fix this by moving bond_set_carrier() out of if (!bond_has_slaves(bond))
statement.

Batching bond_net_exit() factorizes all rtnl acquistions
to a single one, giving chance for cleanup_net()
to progress much faster, holding rtnl a bit longer.

bond_option_active_slave_get_rcu() should not be used in rtnl_mutex as it
use rcu_dereference(). Replace to rcu_dereference_rtnl() so we also can use
this function in rtnl protected context.
With this update, we can rmeove the rcu_read_lock/unlock in
bonding .ndo_eth_ioctl and .get_ts_info.

In Linux bonding scenario, one packet is copied to several copies and sent
by all slave device of bond0 in mode 3(broadcast mode). The mode 3 xmit
function bond_xmit_broadcast() only ueses the last slave device's tx result
as the final result. In this case, if the last slave device is down, then
it always return NET_XMIT_DROP, even though the other slave devices xmit
success. It may cause the tx statistics error, and cause the application
(e.g. scp) consider the network is unreachable.
For example, use the following command to configure server A.

ifconfig eth0 up

The slave device eth0 and eth1 are connected to server B(192.168.1.107).
Run the ping 192.168.1.107 -c 3 -i 0.2 command, the following information
is displayed.

64 bytes from 192.168.1.107: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.077 ms

0 packets transmitted, 3 received
Actually, the slave device eth0 of the bond successfully sends three
ICMP packets, but the result shows that 0 packets are transmitted.
Also if we use scp command to get remote files, the command end with the
following printings.
ssh_exchange_identification: read: Connection timed out
So this patch modifies the bond_xmit_broadcast to return NET_XMIT_SUCCESS
if one slave device in the bond sends packets successfully. If all slave
devices send packets fail, the discarded packets stats is increased. The
skb is released when there is no slave device in the bond or the last slave
device is down.

If the userspace program is distributed in binary form (distro package),
there is no way to know on which kernel versions it will run.
Let's only check if the flag was set when do SIOCSHWTSTAMP. And return
hwtstamp_config with flag HWTSTAMP_FLAG_BONDED_PHC_INDEX to notify
userspace whether the new feature is supported or not.

sock.h is pretty heavily used (5k objects rebuilt on x86 after
it's touched). We can drop the include of filter.h from it and
add a forward declaration of struct sk_filter instead.
This decreases the number of rebuilt objects when bpf.h
is touched from ~5k to ~1k.
There's a lot of missing includes this was masking. Primarily
in networking tho, this time.

When there is a failover, the PHC index of bond active interface will be
changed. This may break the user space program if the author didn't aware.
By setting this flag, the user should aware that the PHC index get/set
by syscall is not stable. And the user space is able to deal with it.
Without this flag, the kernel will reject the request forwarding to
bonding.

We have VLAN PTP support(via get_ts_info) on kernel, and bond support(by
getting active interface via netlink message) on userspace tool linuxptp.
But there are always some users who want to use PTP with VLAN over bond,
which is not able to do with the current implementation.
This patch passed get_ts_info and SIOC[SG]HWTSTAMP ioctl to active device
with bond mode active-backup/tlb/alb. With this users could get kernel native
bond or VLAN over bond PTP support.
Test with ptp4l and it works with VLAN over bond after this patch:

Currently, we use hard code number to verify if we are in the
arp_interval timeslice. But some user may want to reduce/extend
the verify timeslice. With the similar team option 'missed_max'
the uers could change that number based on their own environment.

dev->gso_max_segs is written under RTNL protection, or when the device is
not yet visible, but is read locklessly.
Add netif_set_gso_max_segs() helper.
Add the READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() pairs, and use netif_set_gso_max_segs()
where we can to better document what is going on.

Commit 406f42fa0d ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount
of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look
up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all
the writes to it go through appropriate helpers.
Make sure local references to netdev->dev_addr are constant.

With nested bonding devices the nested bond device's ndo_bpf was
called without a program causing it to decrement the static key
without a prior increment leading to negative count.
Fix the issue by 1) only calling slave's ndo_bpf when there's a
program to be loaded and 2) only decrement the count when a program
is unloaded.

On configs where there is no confirgured direct route to the target of
the ARP probes, these probes are still sent and may be replied to
properly, so no need to repeatedly complain about the missing route.
