pm_runtime_get_sync will increment pm usage counter even it failed.
Forgetting to putting operation will result in reference leak here.
Fix it by replacing it with pm_runtime_resume_and_get to keep usage
counter balanced.

It looks like some displays (like the LG 27UL850-W) don't enable the
scrambling when the HDMI driver enables it. However, if we set later the
scrambler enable bit, the display will work as expected.
Let's create delayed work queue to periodically look at the display
scrambling status, and if it's not set yet try to enable it again.

In order to reach the frequencies needed to output at 594MHz, the
firmware needs to be configured with the appropriate parameters in the
config.txt file (enable_hdmi_4kp60 and force_turbo).
Let's detect it at bind time, warn the user if we can't, and filter out
the relevant modes.

Since we fixed the hooks to disable the encoder at boot, we now have an
unbalanced clk_disable call at boot since we never enabled them in the
first place.
Let's mimic the state of the hardware and enable the clocks at boot if
the controller is enabled to get the use-count right.

We introduced the BCM2711 support to the vc4 HDMI controller with 5.10,
but this was lacking any of the interrupts of the CEC controller so we
have to deal with the backward compatibility.
Do so by simply ignoring the CEC setup if the DT doesn't have the
interrupts property.

The HDMI controller found in the BCM2711 has an external interrupt
controller for the CEC and hotplug interrupt shared between the two
instances.
Let's add a variant flag to register a single interrupt handler and
deals with the interrupt handler setup, or two interrupt handlers
relying on an external irqchip.

The BCM2711 has two different interrupt sources to transmit and receive
CEC messages, provided through an external interrupt chip shared between
the two HDMI interrupt controllers.
The rest of the CEC controller is identical though so we need to change
a bit the code organisation to share the code as much as possible, yet
still allowing to register independent handlers.

As part of the enable sequence we might change the HSM clock rate if the
pixel rate is different than the one we were already dealing with.
On the BCM2835 however, the CEC clock derives from the HSM clock so any
rate change will need to be reflected in the CEC clock divider to output
40kHz.

The CEC clock divider needs to output a frequency of 40kHz from the HSM
rate on the BCM2835. The driver used to have a fixed frequency for it,
but that changed for the BCM2711 and we now need to compute it
dynamically to maintain the proper rate.

Currently we call cec_phys_addr_invalidate on a hotplug deassert.
That may be due to a TV power cycling, or an AVR being switched
on (and switching edid).
This makes CEC unusable since our controller wouldn't have a physical
address anymore.
Set it back up again on the hotplug assert.

The code prior to 311e305fdb ("drm/vc4: hdmi: Implement a register
layout abstraction") was relying on the fact that the register offset
was incremented by 4 for each readl call. That worked since the register
width is 4 bytes.
However, since that commit the HDMI_READ macro is now taking an enum,
and the offset doesn't increment by 4 but 1 now. Divide the index by 4
to fix this.

The hdmi reset got moved to a later point in the commit 9045e91a47
("drm/vc4: hdmi: Add reset callback").
However, the reset now occurs after vc4_hdmi_cec_init and so tramples
the setup of registers like HDMI_CEC_CNTRL_1
This only affects pi0-3 as on pi4 the cec registers are in a separate
block

User-space ALSA matches a card's driver name against an internal list of
aliases in order to select the correct configuration for the system.
When the driver name isn't defined, the match is performed against the
card's name.
With the introduction of RPi4 we now have two HDMI ports with two
distinct audio cards. This is reflected in their names, making them
different from previous RPi versions. With this, ALSA ultimately misses
the board's configuration on RPi4.
In order to avoid this, set "card->driver_name" to "vc4-hdmi"
unanimously.

The PHY initialisation parameters are not based on the pixel clock but
the TMDS clock rate which can be the pixel clock in the standard case,
but could be adjusted based on some parameters like the bits per color.
Since the TMDS clock rate is stored in our custom connector state
already, let's reuse it from there instead of computing it again.

The pixel rate is for now quite simple to compute, but with more features
(30 and 36 bits output, YUV output, etc.) will depend on a bunch of
connectors properties.
Let's store the rate we have to run the pixel clock at in our custom
connector state, and compute it in atomic_check.

When run with a higher bpc than 8, the clock of the HDMI controller needs

drm_atomic_helper_connector_reset uses kmalloc which, from an API
standpoint, can fail, and thus setting connector->state to NULL.
However, our reset hook then calls drm_atomic_helper_connector_tv_reset
that will access connector->state without checking if it's a valid
pointer or not.
Make sure we don't end up accessing a NULL pointer.

limits") was intended to compute the pixel rate to make sure we remain
within the boundaries of what the hardware can provide.

The infoframes are sent at a regular interval as a data island packet,
so we don't need to wait for them to be sent when we're setting them up.
However, we do need to poll when we're enabling since the we can't
update the packet RAM until it has been sent.
Let's add a boolean flag to tell whether we want to poll or not to
support both cases.

There's cross-talk on the RPi4 between the 2.4GHz channels used by the WiFi
chip and some resolutions, most notably 1440p at 60Hz.
In such a case, we can either reject entirely the mode, or lower slightly
the pixel frequency to remove the overlap. Let's go for the latter.

The FIFO between the pixelvalve and the HDMI controller runs at 2 pixels
per clock cycle, and cannot deal with odd timings.
Let's reject any mode with such timings.

The HDMI controller cannot go above a certain pixel rate limit depending on
the generations, but that limit is only enforced in mode_valid at the
moment, which means that we won't advertise modes that exceed that limit,
but the userspace is still free to try to setup a mode that would.
Implement atomic_check to make sure we check it in that scenario too.

When running the trigger hook, ALSA by default will take a spinlock, and
thus will run the trigger hook in atomic context.
However, our HDMI driver will send the infoframes as part of the trigger
hook, and part of that process is to wait for a bit to be cleared for up to
100ms. To be nicer to the system, that wait has some usleep_range that
interact poorly with the atomic context.
There's several ways we can fix this, but the more obvious one is to make
ALSA take a mutex instead by setting the nonatomic flag on the DAI link.
That doesn't work though, since now the cyclic callback installed by the
dmaengine helpers in ALSA will take a mutex, while that callback is run by
dmaengine's virt-chan code in a tasklet where sleeping is not allowed
either.
Given the delay we need to poll the bit for, changing the usleep_range for
a udelay and keep running it from a context where interrupts are disabled
is not really a good option either.
However, we can move the infoframe setup code in the hw_params hook, like
is usually done in other HDMI controllers, that isn't protected by a
spinlock and thus where we can sleep. Infoframes will be sent on a regular
basis anyway, and since hw_params is where the audio parameters that end up
in the infoframes are setup, this also makes a bit more sense.

In order to avoid pixels getting stuck in an unflushable FIFO, we need when
we disable the HDMI controller to switch away from getting our pixels from
the pixelvalve and instead use blank pixels, and switch back to the
pixelvalve when we enable the HDMI controller.

In order to prevent some pixels getting stuck in an unflushable FIFO on
bcm2711, we need to enable the HVS, the pixelvalve (the CRTC) and the HDMI
controller (the encoder) in an intertwined way, and with tight delays.
However, the atomic callbacks don't really provide a way to work with
either constraints, so we need to roll our own callbacks so that we can
provide those guarantees.
Since those callbacks have been implemented and called in the CRTC code, we
can just implement them in the HDMI driver now.

The current code has some logic, disabled by default, to dump the register
setup in the HDMI controller.
However, since we're going to split those functions in multiple, shorter,
functions that only make sense where they are called in sequence, keeping
the register dump makes little sense.

The HDMI driver was registering a single ALSA card so far with the name
vc4-hdmi.
Obviously, this is not going to work anymore when we will have multiple
HDMI controllers since we will end up trying to register two files with the
same name.
Let's use the variant to avoid that name conflict.

ALSA's iec958 plugin by default sets the block start preamble
to 8, whilst this driver was programming the hardware to expect
0xF.
Amend the hardware config to match ALSA.

If the encoder is disabled and re-enabled (eg mode change) all infoframes
are reset, whilst the audio subsystem know nothing about this change.
The driver therefore needs to reinstate the audio infoframe for
itself.

The register range used for audio setup in the previous generations of
SoC were always the second range in the device tree. However, now that
the BCM2711 has way more register ranges, it makes sense to retrieve it
by names for it, while preserving the id-based lookup as a fallback.

The HSM clock needs to be running at 101% the pixel clock of the HDMI
controller, however it's shared between the two HDMI controllers, which
means that if the resolutions are different between the two HDMI
controllers, and the lowest resolution is on the second (in enable order)
controller, the first HDMI controller will end up with a smaller than
expected clock rate.
Since we don't really need an exact frequency there, we can simply change
the minimum rate we expect instead.

The HSM clock needs to be setup at around 101% of the pixel rate. This
was done previously by setting the clock rate to 163.7MHz at probe time and
only check in mode_valid whether the mode pixel clock was under the pixel
clock +1% or not.
However, with 4k we need to change that frequency to a higher frequency
than 163.7MHz, and yet want to have the lowest clock as possible to have a
decent power saving.
Let's change that logic a bit by setting the clock rate of the HSM clock
to the pixel rate at encoder_enable time. This would work for the
BCM2711 that support 4k resolutions and has a clock that can provide it,
but we still have to take care of a 4k panel plugged on a BCM283x SoCs
that wouldn't be able to use those modes, so let's define the limit in
the variant.

The CEC init code was put directly into the bind function, which was quite
inconsistent with how the audio support was done, and would prevent us from

The HDMI driver was registering a single debugfs file so far with the name
hdmi_regs.
Obviously, this is not going to work anymore when will have multiple HDMI
controllers since we will end up trying to register two files with the same
name.
Let's use the variant to avoid that name conflict.

The vc4 CRTC will use the encoder type to control its output clock
muxing. However, this will be different from HDMI0 to HDMI1, so let's

The HDMI controllers found in the BCM2711 have most of the registers
reorganized in multiple registers areas and at different offsets than
previously found.
The logic however remains pretty much the same, so it doesn't really make
sense to create a whole new driver and we should share the code as much as
possible.
Let's implement some indirection to wrap around a register and depending on
the variant will lookup the associated register on that particular variant.

The unbind function needs to retrieve a vc4_hdmi structure pointer through
the struct device that we're given since we want to support multiple HDMI
controllers.
However, our optional ASoC support doesn't make that trivial since it will
overwrite the device drvdata if we use it, but obviously won't if we don't
use it.
Let's make sure the fields are at the proper offset to be able to cast
between the snd_soc_card structure and the vc4_hdmi structure
transparently so we can support both cases.

Our CEC code also retrieves the associated vc4_hdmi by setting the
vc4_dev pointer as its private data, and then dereferences its vc4_hdmi
pointer.
In order to eventually get rid of that pointer, we can simply pass the
vc4_hdmi pointer directly.

Whenever the code needs to access the vc4_hdmi structure from a DRM
connector or encoder, it first accesses the drm_device associated to the
connector, then retrieve the drm_dev private data which gives it a
pointer to our vc4_dev, and will finally follow the vc4_hdmi pointer in
that structure.
That will also give us some trouble when having multiple controllers,
but now that we have our encoder and connector structures that are part
of vc4_hdmi, we can simply call container_of on the DRM connector or
encoder and retrieve the vc4_hdmi structure directly.

The function vc4_hdmi_connector_detect access its vc4_hdmi struct by
dereferencing the pointer in the structure vc4_dev. This will cause some
issues when we will have multiple HDMI controllers, so let's just use the
local variable for now instead of dereferencing that pointer all the time,
and we'll fix the local variable later.

The current driver only supports a single HDMI controller, and part of
the issue is that the main vc4_dev structure holds a pointer to its
(only) HDMI controller, and the HDMI registers accessors will use it to
retrieve the mapped addresses.
Let's modify those accessors to use directly the vc4_hdmi structure so
that we can eventually get rid of that single global pointer.

the vc4_hdmi driver has some custom structures to hold the data it needs to
associate with the drm_encoder and drm_connector structures.
However, it allocates them separately from the vc4_hdmi structure which
makes it more complicated than it needs to be.
Move those structures to be contained by vc4_hdmi and update the code
accordingly.

We're calling vc4_debugfs_add_file with our struct vc4_hdmi pointer set
in the private field, but we don't use that field and go through the
main struct vc4_dev to get it.

Current mode validation impedes setting up some video modes which should
be supported otherwise. Namely 1920x1200@60Hz.
Fix this by lowering the minimum HDMI state machine clock to pixel clock
ratio allowed.

Current ALSA SoC avoid to add duplicate component to rtd,
and this driver was selecting CPU component as Platform component.
Thus, above patch removed Platform settings from this driver,
because it assumed these are same component.
But, some CPU driver is using generic DMAEngine, in such case, both
CPU component and Platform component will have same of_node/name.
In other words, there are some components which are different but
have same of_node/name.
In such case, Card driver definitely need to select Platform even
though it is same as CPU.
It is depends on CPU driver, but is difficult to know it from Card driver.
This patch reverts above patch.

ALSA SoC is now supporting "no Platform". Sound card doesn't need to
select "CPU component" as "Platform" anymore if it doesn't need
special Platform.
This patch removes such settings.

The global list of all debugfs entries for the driver was painful: the
list couldn't see into the components' structs, so each component had
its own debugs show function to find the component, then find the
regset and dump it. The components also had to be careful to check
that they were actually registered in vc4 before dereferencing
themselves, in case they weren't probed on a particular platform.
They routinely failed at that.
Instead, we can have the components add their debugfs callbacks to a
little list in vc4 to be registered at drm_dev_register() time, which
gets vc4_debugfs.c out of the business of knowing the whole list of
components.
Thanks to this change, dsi0 (if it existed) would register its node.

Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in
the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is
confusing. Split them out.
To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all
drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of
drm_crtc_helper.h includes.
v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers
that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1.
v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but
not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h
there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means
rolling out lots more includes all over.
This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I
expect.

Make life easier for drivers by simply passing the connector
to drm_hdmi_avi_infoframe_from_display_mode() and
drm_hdmi_avi_infoframe_quant_range(). That way drivers don't
need to worry about is_hdmi2_sink mess.

Now that the plane code takes the margins setup into account, we can
safely attach margin props to the HDMI connector.
We also take care of filling AVI infoframes correctly to expose the
top/botton/left/right bar.
Note that those margin props match pretty well the
overscan_{left,right,top,bottom} properties defined in config.txt and
parsed by the VC4 firmware.

Apparently some sinks look at the YQ bits even when receiving RGB,
and they get somehow confused when they see a non-zero YQ value.
So we can't just blindly follow CEA-861-F and set YQ to match the
RGB range.
Unfortunately there is no good way to tell whether the sink
designer claims to have read CEA-861-F. The CEA extension block
revision number has generally been stuck at 3 since forever,
and even a very recently manufactured sink might be based on
an old design so the manufacturing date doesn't seem like
something we can use. In lieu of better information let's
follow CEA-861-F only for HDMI 2.0 sinks, since HDMI 2.0 is
based on CEA-861-F. For HDMI 1.x sinks we'll always set YQ=0.
The alternative would of course be to always set YQ=0. And if
we ever encounter a HDMI 2.0+ sink with this bug that's what
we'll probably have to do.

drm_add_edid_modes() now fills in the ELD automatically, so the calls to
drm_edid_to_eld() are redundant. Remove them.
All the other places are obvious, but nv50 has detached
drm_edid_to_eld() from the drm_add_edid_modes() call.

The current error handling when devm_kzalloc fails performs a
non-null check on connector which is redundant because connector
is null at that failure point. Once this is removed, make the
failure path into a trivial -ENOMEM return to clean up the
error handling. Also remove need to initialize connector to NULL.

It's dead code, the core handles all this directly now.
The only special case is nouveau and tda988x which used one function
for both legacy modeset code and -nv50 atomic world instead of 2
vtables. But amounts to exactly the same.

This patch adds support to VC4 for CEC. It is under a separate
Kconfig option to keep everyone using VC4 from needing to pull in the
CEC core.

In order to support CEC the hsm clock needs to be enabled in
vc4_hdmi_bind(), not in vc4_hdmi_encoder_enable(). Otherwise you wouldn't
be able to support CEC when there is no hotplug detect signal, which is
required by some monitors that turn off the HPD when in standby, but keep
the CEC bus alive so they can be woken up.
The HDMI core also has to be enabled in vc4_hdmi_bind() for the same
reason.

HDMI 1.4b support the CEA video modes as per range of CEA-861-D (VIC 1-64).
For any other mode, the VIC filed in AVI infoframes should be 0.
HDMI 2.0 sinks, support video modes range as per CEA-861-F spec, which is
extended to (VIC 1-107).
This patch adds a bool input variable, which indicates if the connected
sink is a HDMI 2.0 sink or not. This will make sure that we don't pass a
HDMI 2.0 VIC to a HDMI 1.4 sink.
This patch touches all drm drivers, who are callers of this function
drm_hdmi_avi_infoframe_from_display_mode but to make sure there is
no change in current behavior, is_hdmi2 is kept as false.
In case of I915 driver, this patch:
- checks if the connected display is HDMI 2.0.
- HDMI infoframes carry one of this two type of information:
- VIC for 4K modes for HDMI 1.4 sinks
- S3D information for S3D modes
As CEA-861-F has already defined VICs for 4K videomodes, this
patch doesn't allow sending HDMI infoframes for HDMI 2.0 sinks,
until the mode is 3D.

The HDMI driver is currently enabling all clocks at probe time and
keeps the power-domain connected to the HDMI encoder enabled.
Move all activation code to vc4_hdmi_encoder_enable() and make sure
the clks and power domain are released when the HDMI encoder is not used
by adding deactivation steps in vc4_hdmi_encoder_disable().
Note that the sequencing imposed by the IP requires that we move
vc4_hdmi_encoder_mode_set() code into vc4_hdmi_encoder_enable().

The HDMI encoder IP embeds all needed blocks to output audio, with a
custom DAI called MAI moving audio between the two parts of the HDMI
core. This driver now exposes a sound card to let users stream audio
to their display.
Using the hdmi-codec driver has been considered here, but MAI meant
having to significantly rework hdmi-codec, and it would have left
little shared code with the I2S mode anyway.
The encoder requires that the audio be SPDIF-formatted frames only,
which alsalib will format-convert for us.
This patch is the combined work of Eric Anholt (initial register setup
with a separate dmaengine driver and using simple-audio-card) and
Boris Brezillon (moving it all into HDMI, massive debug to get it
actually working), and which Eric has the permission to release.

individual code files the way I used to for doxygen, while for RST we
want to describe things in a more chapter/section way where there's no

HDMI 2.0 recommends that we set the Q bits in the AVI infoframe
even when the sink does not support quantization range selection (QS=0).
According to CEA-861 we can do that as long as the Q we send matches
the default quantization range for the mode.
Previously I think I had misread the spec as saying that you can't
send a non-zero Q at all when QS=0. But that's not what the spec
actually says.

Pull the logic to populate the quantization range information
in the AVI infoframe into a small helper. We'll be adding a bit
more logic to it, and having it in a central place seems like a
good idea since it's based on the CEA-861 spec.

Now that we have infoframes to report the pixel repeat flag, we can
start using it. Fixes locking the 720x480i and 720x576i modes on my
Dell 2408WFP. Like the 1920x1080i case, they don't fit properly on
the screen, though.

We really do need to be using the halved V fields. I had been
confused by the code I was using as a reference because it stored
halved vsync fields but not halved vdisplay, so it looked like I only
needed to divide vdisplay by 2.
This reverts part of Mario's timestamping fixes that prevented
CRTC_HALVE_V from applying, and instead adjusts the timestamping code
to not use the crtc field in that case.
Fixes locking of 1920x1080x60i on my Dell 2408WFP. There are black
bars on the top and bottom, but I suspect that might be an
under/overscan flags problem as opposed to video timings.

On Pi0/1/2, we use an external GPIO line for hotplug detection, since
the HDMI_HOTPLUG register isn't connected to anything. However, with
the Pi3 the HPD GPIO line has moved off to a GPIO expander that will
be tricky to get to (the firmware is constantly polling the expander
using i2c0, so we'll need to coordinate with it).
As a stop-gap, if we don't have a GPIO line, use an EDID probe to
detect connection. Fixes HDMI display on the pi3.

We must not apply CRTC_INTERLACE_HALVE_V to interlaced modes during
mode enumeration, as drm_helper_probe_single_connector_modes
does, so wrap it and reset the effect of CRTC_INTERLACE_HALVE_V
on affected interlaced modes.
Also mode_fixup interlaced modes passed in from user space.
This fixes the vblank timestamping constants and entries in
the mode->crtc_xxx fields needed for precise vblank timestamping.

The original Raspberry Pi had the GPIO active high, but the later
models are active low. The DT GPIO bindings allow specifying the
active flag, except that it doesn't get propagated to the gpiodesc, so
you have to handle it yourself.

If the firmware hadn't brought up HDMI for us, we need to do its
power-on reset sequence (reset HD and and clear its STANDBY bits,

This is enough for fbcon and bringing up X using
xf86-video-modesetting. It doesn't support the 3D accelerator or
power management yet.
