The wifi_if_wrapper notification handling code uses a cmd pointer without
checking if it's valid or not. We're dereferencing it because we assume that
we only get to that point if there was a pending command for us. That's not
always true, so we'd better check.

When calling sdio->bus_disable(), we are flushing the command lists before
disabling the sdio function. We can thus potentially get a command response
after having flushed the command list.
To avoid that race, we have to call iwm_reset() after disabling the sdio
function.

UMAC will ASSERT if the profile security flag is WPA1 | WPA2, so we can only
accept one of those.

We set the initial CT (Temperature control) value to 110 degrees.
If the chip goes over that threshold, we hard block the device which will turn
it down. At the same time we schedule a 30 seconds delayed work that unblock
the device (and userspace is supposed to bring it back up), hoping that the
chip will have cooled down by then...

Because of SPI and SDIO wl1251 does everything in a workqueue, including
calling ieee80211_rx() which should be called with bottom halves disabled.
An error message is emitted because of this:

Fix this by using ieee80211_rx_ni().

We were not handling endianess correctly. The wl1271 chip runs on
little-endian values. This patch makes sure that all the communication with
the wl1271 firmware is done in little-endian by using cpu_to_le* and
le*_to_cpu where appropriate.
Also, all the struct definitions for data exchanged with the firmware has
been changed to use __le16/32 types instead of u16/32.

This updates ath5k to calibrate the noise floor similar to the
way it is done in the madwifi hal and ath9k. Of note:
- we start NF measurement at the same time as AGC calibration,
but do not actually read the value until the periodic (long)
calibration
- we keep a history of the last few values read and write the
median back to the hardware for CCA
- we do not complain if NF calibration isn't complete, instead
we keep the last read value.

We cannot be in PS mode when running PLT tests, so we need to make sure we're
in active mode. Also, we need to clear up the rx_counter when we stop PLT,
otherwise it could cause problems when entering PLT again.

Several memory allocation related failure cases were not properly
handled by the driver - the result was that in low memory conditions
booting of a corrupted FW could be attempted - and user space would not
get proper failure code.

Add support for IPv4 ARP filtering in the driver. This will dramatically
reduce the number of unnecessary interrupts by the device in conqested

If the 38.4MHz reference clock is configured to the firmware, it crashes
on boot. Configuring an experimental 38.4MHz in XTAL mode allows the
firmware to boot, and everything appears to work.

This switches the iwlwifi driver to use paged skb from linear skb for Rx
buffer. So that it relieves some Rx buffer allocation pressure for the
memory subsystem. Currently iwlwifi (4K for 3945) requests 8K bytes for
Rx buffer. Due to the trailing skb_shared_info in the skb->data,
alloc_skb() will do the next order allocation, which is 16K bytes. This
is suboptimal and more likely to fail when the system is under memory
usage pressure. Switching to paged Rx skb lets us allocate the RXB
directly by alloc_pages(), so that only order 1 allocation is required.
It also adjusts the area spin_lock (with IRQ disabled) protected in the
tasklet because tasklet guarentees to run only on one CPU and the new
unprotected code can be preempted by the IRQ handler. This saves us from
spawning another workqueue to make skb_linearize/__pskb_pull_tail happy
(which cannot be called in hard irq context).
Finally, mac80211 doesn't support paged Rx yet. So we linearize the skb
for all the management frames and software decryption or defragmentation
required data frames before handed to mac80211. For all the other frames,
we __pskb_pull_tail 64 bytes in the linear area of the skb for mac80211
to handle them properly.

We were using the join command to change some settings when the stack asked
us to do it. In many cases they were not needed (and could cause potential
problems), so they were removed. In other cases there are ACX commands that
can be used instead of using join to reconfigure.

We still don't have proper calibration for our devices, so we are using way
too much power for TX, which causes a lot of distortion. This hack hardcodes
the txpower to 7dBm.

We don't get any indication from the stack when we have disassociated. In
wl1271, it is important to send a CMD_DISCONNECT before joining again,
because the firmware cleans some things up. So we check if we're already
joined and disconnect if that's the case.

Channel switch host command has different data structure for
different devices. Adding additional structures to support 5000 and 6000
NICs. unlike 4965, starting with 5000 series, the tx power is managed by
uCode, there is no tx power db information need to be passing from driver to
uCode; but the space needs to be reserved to match uCode expection.
1000 NIC do not support channel switch operation since it is 'bgn'
device, there is no need to have data structure defined for it.

Adding accumulative statistics counters in iwlwifi driver.
Statistics counters are reported by uCode every beacon interval; but can
be reset by uCode when needed. The accumulative statistics counters is
maintained by driver to keep track of the history of all the counters.
Update the ucode stats files in debugfs to display both latest and
accumulative counters.

Instead of always allocate the max number of tx queue structure,
use dynamic allocation based on the number of queues in device
configuration. With these changes, device does not have to allocate more
memory than the h/w can support.

iwl_power_initialize() initializes driver data (not device hardware), and does
not need to execute more than once (when the driver initializes). Therefore, it
does not belong in iwl3945_apm_init(), which initializes hardware, and may run
more than once.
Move it to iwl3945_pci_probe(), where it will run only once. This agrees
with similar placement in iwl-agn.c's iwl_pci_probe(), although placement
under "services" seemed more appropriate than under "mac80211".

iwl3945_rfkill_poll() has been silently calling wiphy_rfkill_set_hw_state()
every 2 seconds, regardless of whether hardware RF KILL switch changed state.
Call wiphy_rfkill_set_hw_state() only when RFKILL switch changes.
Add IWL_DEBUG_RF_KILL log message and documentation.

The sleep_level_override debugfs file is used by the user to request a
static power index instead of the dynamic sleep values. Users are expected
to provide value from 1 to 5 as an index or -1 to disable it.
The problem at the moment is that users can also provide 0 to this file
which, together with the value 1, is translated to index 1. This is
confusing and even more so when users write 0 to sleep_level_override and
then read 1 from it afterwards.
Modify checking to treat 0 as invalid.

Add more items to sensitivity range table to avoid using hardcoded values.
Initialize the table per device since unique per device information is
required to perform sensitivity calibration.
additional items in sensitivity range table:
.barker_corr_th_min: Barker correlation threshold minimum
.barker_corr_th_min_mrc: Barker correlation threshold minimum for MRC
.nrg_th_cca: Energy threshold for Clear Channel Assessment
Barker codes are a technique used in WLAN encoding for transmission.
MRC is "Maximal Ratio Combining", a technique for optimally combining the
signals from 2 or more receivers to achieve a better signal.

Now that we're unconditionally using apm_ops.stop() to reset and power-down
the device in __iwl3945_down(), the apm_ops.reset() is redundant. Removing
this call will also allow us to remove iwl3945_apm_reset().
Remove unneeded iwl_clear_bit(CSR_GP_CNTRL_REG_FLAG_MAC_ACCESS_REQ) because
this bit will be set again very soon in iwl3945_hw_txq_ctx_stop() and other
following calls.

In some cases (e.g. when mac80211 calls iwl_mac_stop() for suspend or user
no longer wants device active), device has not been going into low power state
via __iwl_down(). apm_ops.reset() does not put device into low power state;
instead it resets the device, then puts it into a powered-up state ready to be
re-loaded with uCode and re-started. This has needlessly warmed up user's
laptops and drained batteries.
With current architecture in which mac80211 controls device up/down (including
resetting device after firmware errors), there is no need for apm_ops.reset()
any more; apm_ops.reset() is basically a combination of apm_ops.stop() and
apm_ops.init().
Instead, __iwl_down() now unconditionally places the device into a low-power
state via apm_ops.stop(). Device may be re-started via __iwl_up() calling
apm_ops.init() as soon as it may be needed (e.g. quickly for firmware errors),
but in the meantime, device will stop wasting energy.
Note that, even in this low power state, if driver re-enables interrupts,
the device retains the ability to sense the hardware RF-KILL switch, and
(except for 3945) interrupt the host when it changes.

Update iwl3945_apm_init() to set up device registers in sequence most recently
recommended by factory.
Add resets for APMG interrupts and radio chip, formerly done only in
iwl3945_apm_reset(); moving them here assures that apm_init() will do
a complete job of preparing hardware not only after platform boot,
but also after apm_stop() has executed (due to rfkill, ifconfig down,
driver unload, etc.). This is in preparation to completely remove apm_reset().
Add some comments.

Use vmalloc to allocate memory for the firmware image, and use a smaller
linear buffer for the actual transfer of the firmware to the chipset.

Enable multicast filtering. This way by default no multicast frames will
reach the host, and when needed, only required multicast frames can be
passed from the WLAN chipset to the host.

Clear the probe-request template on the firmware after scan. Unless
cleared, the firmware can independently send probe requests to the AP
and interfere with the mac80211 logic.

This patch adds implementation for checking for SPI busy words - i.e.
honoring a delay request from the WLAN chipset upon reading
registers/memory.
To optimized the average SPI ready by 32 bits, also configure the number
of busywords to one to disable the "fixed-busy-word" functionality.

"b43: Fix PPC crash in rfkill polling on unload" fixed the bug reported
in Bugzilla No. 14181; however, it introduced a new bug. Whenever the
radio switch was turned off, it was necessary to unload and reload
the driver for it to recognize the switch again.
This patch fixes both the original bug in #14181 and the bug introduced by
the previous patch. It must be stated, however, that if there is a BCM4306/3
with an rfkill switch (not yet proven), then the driver will need an
unload/reload cycle to turn the device back on.

It is somewhat non-sensical to allow selecting wireless
drivers without showing wireless core code options, and
since the wext refactoring this has made it possible to
generate configurations that will not build. Avoid this
and make wireless drivers select the wireless options.

The core driver needs to be stopped and then as a last step the
hardware needs to be stopped and its structure free'd. We do this
by moving the core driver cleanup to a new helper ath_clean_core()
and have ath_cleanup() call it. Only as a last step does
ath_cleanup() now free the hw.

debugfs uses the hardware for several debugfs files as such the
hardware must be initialized and available prior to its usage. The
same applies to when we free the hw structs -- free debufs file
entries prior to free'ing the hardware.

mac80211 has long provided us the association ID. This isn't useful except
for Power-Save polling which now gets enabled. We can now poll for our
pending frames on the AP during power save.

We have access to common->curbssid and common->curaid so just
use those. Note that common->curaid is always 0 so this keeps
our current behaviour of always using 0 for now. Once we fix
storing the association ID passed by mac80211 this will
require no changes here.

Both 1000 & 6000 series NICs contain on-chip OTP memory that
replaces the off-chip EEPROM memory. The nature of OTP means
there is a limited number of times a particular board can go through the
factory flow and be (re)calibrated. As a consequence there will be some boards
that contain EEPROM memory because OTP blocks were full.
In the signature validation routine, iwlwifi needs to make sure
"select bit" and "EEPROM/OTP signature" agree on the type of
NVM to be used to configure the system.

The iwlwifi drivers have LED blinking requirements that
mac80211 cannot fulfill due to the use of just a single
LED instead of different ones for TX, RX, radio etc.
Instead, the single LED blinks according to transfers
and is solid on the rest of the time. As such, having
LED class devices registered that mac80211 triggers are
connected to is pointless as we don't use the triggers
anyway.
Remove all the useless code and add hooks into the
driver itself. At the same time, make the LED code
abstracted so the core code that determines blink rate
etc. can be shared between 3945 and agn in iwlcore.
At the same time, the fact that we removed the use of
the mac80211 LED triggers means we can also remove the
IWLWIFI_LEDS Kconfig symbol since the LED support is
now self-contained.

In order to have an easier way to debug issues, create
trace events (using the ftrace framework) that will
allow us to follow exactly what the driver is doing
with the device.
The text format isn't all that useful, but the binary
format can also be obtained easily via debugfs and
then analysed on the fly or offline with debugging
tools.

Multiple MPDUs can be aggregated, transmitted, and finally acknowledged
together using a single BA frame. Block ACK (BA) contains
bitmap size of 64*16 bits so the maximum frame count is 64.
The default value of aggregation frame count suggested by uCode is 31 to
achieve best performance.

When uCode detects critical temperature it should send "card state
notification" interrupt to driver and then shut itself down to prevent
overheating. There is a race condition where uCode shuts down before it
can deliver the interrupt to driver.
Additional method provided here for driver to enter CT_KILL state based
on temperature reading.
How it works:
Method 1:
If driver receive "card state notification" interrupt from uCode; it
enters "CT_KILL" state immediately
Method 2:
If the last temperature report by Card reach Critical temperature,
driver will send "statistic notification" request to uCode to verify the
temperature reading, if driver can not get reply from uCode within
300ms, driver will enter CT_KILL state automatically.
Method 3:
If the last temperature report by Card did not reach Critical
temperature, but uCode already shut down due to critical temperature.
All the host commands send to uCode will not get process by uCode;
when command queue reach the limit, driver will check the last reported
temperature reading, if it is within pre-defined margin, enter "CT_KILL"
state immediately. In this case, when uCode ready to exit from "CT_KILL" state,
driver need to restart the adapter in order to reset all the queues and
resume normal operation.
One additional issue being address here, when system is in CT_KILL
state, both tx and rx already stopped, but driver still can send host
command to uCode, it will flood the command queue since card was not
responding; adding STATUS_CT_KILL flag to reject enqueue host commands
to uCode if it is in CT_KILL state, when uCode is ready to come out of
CT_KILL, driver will clear the STATUS_CT_KILL bit and allow enqueue the host
commands to uCode to recover from CT_KILL state.

Add timer based auto deep sleep feature in libertas driver which can be
configured using iwconfig command. This is tested on SD8688, SD8686 cards
with firmware versions 10.38.1.p25, 9.70.4.p0 respectively on 32-bit and 64-bit
platforms. Tests have been done for USB/CS cards to make sure that the patch
won't break USB/CS code. We didn't test the if_spi driver.

- select WIRELESS_EXT - for wext support

- select WEXT_SPY - for iwspy support
except cfg80211 -- which gets new hooks in wext-core.c
and can then get wext handlers without CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT.
Wireless extensions procfs support is auto-selected
based on PROC_FS and anything that requires the wext core
(i.e. WIRELESS_EXT or CFG80211_WEXT).

hw code for Atheros 802.11n hardware is commmon between
different chipsets. This moves this code into a separate
module, the next expected user of this code will be
the ath9k_htc module.
The ath9k/ dir is now selected by ATH9K_HW, an option which
gets selected by either ath9k or ath9k_htc, but remains
invisible for user menuconfig configuration. If either
ath9k or ath9k_htc will be compiled into the kernel
ath9k_hw will also be compiled in.

For AR5416 chipsets, clearing RTC_RESET_EN when setting
the chip to SLEEP mode results in high power consumption.
This patch fixes this issue by not clearing it for AR5416.

If the current channel is between 2412 and 2472 MHz and if the channel is
changing to 2484 MHz, then the registers 0xa1f4, 0xa1f8 and 0xa1fc need to be
programmed to the "japan_2484" values. Conversely, if the current channel
is 2484 MHz and if the channel is changing to one between 2412 and 2472 MHz, then
the three registers need to be programmed to the "normal" values.
This is needed for compliance with Japanese regulatory requirements.

Using powersave while idle saves a lot of power, but
we've had problems with this on some cards (5150 has
been reported to be problematic). However, on the new
6000 series we're seeing no problems, so for now let
that hardware benefit from idle mode, we can look at
the problems with other hardware one by one and then
enable those once we figure out the problems.

When instructing the microcode to use just a single
chain when we have power saving enabled, we should
also tell the AP that we are doing SM powersave.
However, using a single chain doesn't actually have
any power saving advantage while idle -- measurements
show that the power consumption is no different when
using one vs. two or three chains.
Therefore, always instruct the microcode to use all
chains.

Today's implementation allow LED to blink based on the traffic
condition. We introduce an additional LED mode that reflects the RF
state.
The supported LED modes after this are:
IWL_LED_BLINK (current/default) - blink rate based on current Tx/Rx
traffic
IWL_LED_RF_STATE (new) -
LED OFF: No power/RF disabled, the LED is emitting no light
LED ON: Powered/RF enabled, the LED is emitting light
in a stable non-flashing state.
In order to provide the flexibility to support different LED
behavior per user/system preference we add "led_mode" iwlcore module
parameter.

Current rate scale algorithm fluctuates between different MIMO modes fairly
rapidly, causing widely varying performance. These fluctuations occur because in
the rate_scale tables for expected throughput the values are not very different
for different modes.
However, when aggregation is turned on and MAC overhead is reduced, the
expected throughput for different MIMO modes grows and different modes have
vastly different performance. Add expected throughput tables for this case.
We also need to keep track of aggregation status per-station, so we add the
"is_agg" field to struct lq_sta.
Also includes cleanup of comments and variable names in/around the affected
code.

When 802.11g was introduced, we had RTS/CTS and CTS-to-Self protection
mechanisms. In an HT Beacon, HT stations use the "Operating Mode" field
in the HT Information Element to determine whether or not to use
protection.
The Operating Mode field has 4 possible settings: 0-3:
Mode 0: If all stations in the BSS are 20/40 MHz HT capable, or if the
BSS is 20/40 MHz capable, or if all stations in the BSS are 20 MHz HT
stations in a 20 MHz BSS
Mode 1: used if there are non-HT stations or APs using the primary or
secondary channels
Mode 2: if only HT stations are associated in the BSS and at least one
20 MHz HT station is associated.
Mode 3: used if one or more non-HT stations are associated in the BSS.
When in operating modes 1 or 3, and the Use_Protection field is 1 in the
Beacon's ERP IE, all HT transmissions must be protected using RTS/CTS or
CTS-to-Self.
By default, CTS-to-self is the preferred protection mechanism for less
overhead and higher throughput; but using the full RTS/CTS will better
protect the inner exchange from interference, especially in
highly-congested environment.
For 6000 series WIFI NIC, RTS/CTS protection mechanism is the
recommended choice for HT traffic based on the HW design.

The chain settings we currently use in iwlwifi are
rather confusing -- and we also go by the wrong
settings entirely under certain circumstances. To
clean it up, create a new variable in the current
HT config -- single_chain_sufficient -- that tells
us whether we need more than one chain. Calculate
that based on the AP and operating mode (no IBSS
HT implemented -- so no need for multiple chains,
for station mode we use the AP's capabilities).
Additionally, since APs always send disabled SM PS
mode, keeping track of their sm_ps mode isn't very
useful -- doubly not so for our _own_ RX config
since that should depend on our, not the AP's, SM
PS mode.
Finally, document that our configuration of the
number of RX chains used is currently wrong when
in powersave (by adding a comment).
All together this removes the two remaining items
in struct iwl_ht_config that were done wrong there.
For the future, the number of RX chains and some
SM PS handshaking needs to be added to mac80211,
which then needs to tell us, and the new variable
current_ht_config.single_chain_sufficient should
also be calculated by mac80211.

Daniel Halperin pointed out that the naming
here is rather inconsistent with at least 3
different names being used for one thing in
different contexts. Rename the struct to
iwl_ht_config (rather than iwl_ht_info) and
use ht_conf as a variable for it.

Adjust led blink rate to compensate on a MAC Clock difference on every
HW. Led blink rate analysis showed an average deviation of 0% on 3945,
5% on 4965 HW and 20% on 5000 series and up.
Need to compensate on the led on/off time per HW according to the
deviation to achieve the desired led frequency
The calculation is: (100-averageDeviation)/100 * blinkTime
For code efficiency the calculation will be:
compensation = (100 - averageDeviation) * 64 / 100
NewBlinkTime = (compensation * BlinkTime) / 64

Separate set_hw_params() function for 6000
series from 5000/1000 series because:
1) 6000 series use different set of sensitivity range table
2) 6000 series has different uCode image size

Different NIC has different requirements for configuration. Currently all
5000 series hardware and later share the same configuration function even
though they do not need the same configurations. Fix this by separating the
needed configuration actions for each hardware model.

This was for supporting 25 MHz spacing for HT40, this is not used
as we use 20 MHz spacing instead for HT40 as per 802.11n. The hardware
is capable of it though so we leave the phymode definition and EEPROM
parsing for it. If some experimenter wants to work on this stuff stuff
you can add an extension enabling bool on ath_common and perhaps some
debugfs knob to enable it. Keep in mind you'll also need to update the
phymode with the AR_PHY_FC_DYN2040_EXT_CH which has been left on the
driver.

In an effort to make hw code driver core agnostic read
and write operations are defined on the ath_common structure.
This patch adds that and makes ath9k use it. This allows
drivers like ath9k_htc to define its own read/write ops and
still rely on the same hw code. This also paves the way for
sharing code between ath9k/ath5k/ath9k_htc.

We disable ASPM when enabling bluetooth coexistance. Disabling
ASPM is a bus specific operation. In the future other buses may
support bluetooth coexistance, an example is USB. To this end
move the current routine which disables ASPM into pci.c, and declare
it the PCI bt_coex_prep() helper. Additionally, since ASPM is
a PCI-Express primitive ensure we don't ever try to muck with ASPM
registers on non PCI-express devices.
This also cleans up hw.c to not include bus specific headers or
utilities.

Historically some macro helpers have been users for this,
AR5K_LOW_ID() and AR5K_HIGH_ID(), use upstream unaligned
helpers instead. This applid to ath5k and ar9170. ath9k
already uses this.
Worth noting is ath5k uses an ah_sta_id but that is already
the MAC address combined with the associaiton ID, ah_sta_id
is really ETH_ALEN in size.

ath9k_hw_setpower() is a core driver helper with locking
protection. Locking protection should be left to the driver
core, not the hw code. Hardware code no longer contends for
locking when it needs to wake up the chip or put it to sleep.

When the TSF is reset power save state is disabled and
then restored. The helpers to disable power save and restore
it use a lock provided by the driver core. Move the callers
of the helpers outside of the hw code.
We reset the TSF when mac80211 tells us and on the beacon.c
helper ath9k_hw_beaconinit() when it is made explicitly required.
Add a helper on beacon.c which will deal with ps awake/restore
if we need to reset the TSF upon ath9k_hw_beaconinit().

Keep on btcoex.c only hardware access helpers, move the
driver core specific code to main.c. To accomplish
this we had to split ath_init_btcoex_info() into two parts,
the driver core part -- ath_init_btcoex_timer() and the hw
specific part -- ath9k_hw_init_btcoex_hw_info(). This
highlights how ath_gen_timer is part of the driver core, not
hw related, so stuff that into ath_btcoex struct.
The ath9k_hw_btcoex_init() code is now put inline on
ath_init_softc() through a switch to it easier to follow,
since we did that we can now call ath_tx_get_qnum() from
the main.c instead of btcoex.c

at the header of some routines and se it. ath9k.h no longer needs to
access btcoex.h and to adjust for this move ath_btcoex_set_weight()
into btcoex.h and instead give main.c a helper for setting initial
values upon drv_start()

DPRINTF() is used in hw specific related code, as such
ensure we don't rely on the private driver core ath_softc

The DMA-API debugging facility complains about b43 mapping memory from
stack for SDIO-based cards.
Indeed, b43 currently allocates the PIO RX/TX header and tail buffers
from stack. The solution here is to use heap-allocated buffers instead.

In Bugzilla No. 14181, a PowerMac G4 crashes on ifdown or
module unload because the rfkill polling has not been stopped.
For the x86 architectures, the attempt to reach a now unmapped
register is not fatal as it is on PPC.

The address stored in the next link address is a word address but when
reading the OTP blocks, a byte address is used. Also if the blocks are
full and the last link pointer is not zero, then none of the blocks are
valid so return an error.
The algorithm is simply valid blocks have a next address and that
address's contents is zero.
Using the wrong address for the next link address gets arbitrary data,
obviously. In cases seen, the first block is considered valid when it is not.
If the block has in fact been invalidated there may be old data or
there may be no data, bad data, or partial data, there is no way of
telling. Without this patch it is possible that a device with valid OTP data
is unable to work.

This patch fixes a embarrassing bug which was introduced by:
"[PATCH] ar9170: implement frequency calibration for one-stage/openfw"
The phy_data variable initialization has to done outside the for-loop
scope. This is because the for-loop uses u32 phy_data variable more
like a 4-byte field. But in each run only a single byte is calculated.
Therefore phy_data content needs to stay the same for at least 3 more
iterations, before the complete set can be uploaded.

mac80211_hwsim does not start transmitting Beacon frames when hostapd
is started for the first time and restarting hostapd fixes this. The
issue is caused by the config() handler not being able to start
beacon_timer when beacon interval is not yet known and
bss_info_changed() handler not starting the timer. This can be fixed by
making the bss_info_changed() update the timer.

On SDIO the PIO data register seems to be hardwired to LE. So
the MACCTL bit has no effect on the endianness.
So also use block-I/O for the last word of the packet. block-I/O is always LE.

When hardware or uCode problem occurs driver captures significant
information from device to enable debugging. The format of this information
is different between 3945 and 4965 and later devices, yet currently the
3945 uses the 4965 and later format. Fix this by adding a new library call
that is initialized to the correct formatting routine based on device.
This moves the iwlagn event and error log handling back to iwl-agn.c to
make it part of iwlagn module.
Also remove the 3945 sysfs file that triggers dump of event log - there is
already a debugfs file that can do it for all drivers.

We keep track of where to write into a buffer by keeping a count of how
much has been written so far. When writing to the buffer we thus take the
buffer pointer and adding the count of what has been written so far.
Keeping track of what has been written so far is done by incrementing
this number every time something is written to the buffer with how much has
been written at that time.
Currently this number is incremented incorrectly when using the
"hex_dump_to_buffer" call to add data to the buffer. Fix this by only
adding what has been added to the buffer in that call instead of what has
been added since beginning of buffer.
Issue was discovered and discussed during testing of
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=464598 .

In some cases firmware can give us bad value of index in transmit
buffers array. This patch add sanity check for such values and return
from processing function instantly when it happens.

This patch fixes 2 issues in RFKILL:
* Calling wiphy_rfkill_stop_polling() in ath9k_stop
would mean that the driver cannot report HW status
when the radio is re-enabled. Move this to ath_detach().
* Calling ath_radio_{enable/disable} without checking the current
state results in ath_radio_enable() being called repeatedly
for every invocation of rfkill_poll(). This is not needed
in any case since wiphy_rfkill_set_hw_state() would call
->stop() if the radio has been disabled.

Replenishment of receive buffers is done in the tasklet handling
received frames as well as in a workqueue. When we are in the tasklet
we cannot sleep and thus attempt atomic skb allocations. It is generally
not a big problem if this fails since iwl_rx_allocate is always followed
by a call to iwl_rx_queue_restock which will queue the work to replenish
the buffers at a time when sleeping is allowed.
We thus add the __GFP_NOWARN to the skb allocation in iwl_rx_allocate to
reduce the noise if such an allocation fails while we still have enough
buffers. We do maintain the warning and the error message when we are low
on buffers to communicate to the user that there is a potential problem with
memory availability on system

commit 10c994ca70e8e94bbc85a5bf13de5911ee8de4d2 "iwlwifi: fix remove key
error" fixed an error reported by mac80211 during interface down. The fix
involved changing an async command to synchronous. Unfortunately this was
inside a spinlock section in which we cannot sleep.
Modify the sending of the command back to async. This causes the mac80211
error "mac80211-phy0: failed to remove key (0, ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff) from
hardware (-16)." to return. This error is not serious since this occurs
during interface down and the keys will be cleared anyway when ucode is
unloaded. Having this error message is thus less serious than a potential
deadlock introduced when sleeping while holding a spinlock. We will have to
find another fix for that error.
This is a revert of the abovementioned commit.

Autosleep needs to be disabled for AR9287 chipsets also.
Since autosleep is not used for any of the currently supported
chipsets, disable it by default and can be enabled if needed
for any of the future chipsets.

The commit "ath9k: Fix bugs in programming registers during PA CAL"
removed a REG_READ of 0x7834. This resulted in incorrect
computation of the subsequent value to be written in RF2G6.
This patch fixes the regression by re-adding the REG_READ.

NF value may be incorrect when we read it just after the chip
has gone through a full sleep mode. Reading incorrect NF values
affects RX throughput.

Waking up the chip after powering it down fails sometimes.
In this case the CPU is locked for 200ms. Reduce this
interval to 10ms to avoid excessive busy looping.

Don't abuse wl->current_dev in the LED work for checking whether we're
going down. Add an explicit variable.
This fixes a crash on rmmod dereferencing the wl->current_dev NULL pointer

The current verison of b43 uses "b43_phyop_switch_analog_generic" for A,
G and LP phys.
According to the spec, this is the wrong behaviour for the LP PHY
(see: http://bcm-v4.sipsolutions.net/802.11/PHY/Anacore )
While no problems on the x86 plattform where seen, this leads to a crash
on the BCM5354 SoC (MIPS 32 LE plattform).
This patch implements the analog switch for LP PHYs according to the
specs. It fixes the crash

This adds support for verbose runtime statistics.
It defaults to off and must be enabled in debugfs, if desired.
The first measurement may be incorrect, because statistics are not cleared
after they got enabled through debugfs.

This removes most of the b43 suspend/resume code (it's handled by mac80211)
and moves the registration of devices to the attachment phase. This is
required, because we must not register/unregister devices on suspend/resume.

There's a bug in 4965 powersave that appears to
be related to the way it keeps track of its data
during sleep, but we haven't found it yet. Due to
that, using powersave may spontaneously cause the
device to SYSASSERT when transitioning from sleep
to wake. Therefore, disable powersave for 4965,
until (if ever, unfortunately) we can identify
and fix the problem.

IDLE mode, which probably means we never really

RX handling maintains a few lists that keep track of the RX buffers.
Buffers move from one list to the other as they are used, replenished, and
again made available for usage. In one such instance, when a buffer is used
it enters the "rx_used" list. When buffers are replenished an skb is
attached to the buffer and it is moved to the "rx_free" list. The problem
here is that the buffer is first removed from the "rx_used" list _before_ the
skb is allocated. Thus, if the skb allocation fails this buffer remains
removed from the "rx_used" list and is thus lost for future usage.
Fix this by first allocating the skb before trying to attach it to a list.
We add an additional check to not do this unnecessarily.

This fixes a resume failure where a signal is pending on resume
so the firmware upload fails.
This removes the interruptible sleep, because we don't really need it.
In the worst case (with broken firmware) the sleep loop will take 1 second.
In the common case (working firmware), it will only take a few milliseconds.
So we don't really need to be interruptible.

When processing MIB interrupts, OFDM and CCK error
handling routines for low RSSI values have to be invoked
only when the channel mode is 11G/11B. Since HT channels
will also fall under the bands 2Ghz/5Ghz, check appropriately.

As the hostap driver was converted to use net_device_ops, a mistake was
made in hostap_main.c (commit 5ae4efbcd2).
Originally, the tx_queue_len was set to 0 for every other interface than
HOSTAP_INTERFACE_MASTER, but the new fragment of code sets tx_queue_len to
0 only for HOSTAP_INTERFACE_MASTER. The opposite of the previous
behavior makes the driver to drop all packets in AP mode.
Change the way 0 is assigned to tx_queue_len according to the original
logic.

When we cleaned up the driver to properly tell mac80211 about HT rates

This fixes a resume failure where a signal is pending on resume
so the firmware upload fails.
This removes the interruptible sleep, because we don't really need it.
In the worst case (with broken firmware) the sleep loop will take 1 second.
In the common case (working firmware), it will only take a few milliseconds.
So we don't really need to be interruptible.

When processing MIB interrupts, OFDM and CCK error
handling routines for low RSSI values have to be invoked
only when the channel mode is 11G/11B. Since HT channels
will also fall under the bands 2Ghz/5Ghz, check appropriately.

Force wake the mac80211 queues on init.
Under rare circumstances they may be stopped, if a DMA error or
something else causes a device reset while a queue was stopped.

As the hostap driver was converted to use net_device_ops, a mistake was
made in hostap_main.c (commit 5ae4efbcd2).
Originally, the tx_queue_len was set to 0 for every other interface than
HOSTAP_INTERFACE_MASTER, but the new fragment of code sets tx_queue_len to
0 only for HOSTAP_INTERFACE_MASTER. The opposite of the previous
behavior makes the driver to drop all packets in AP mode.
Change the way 0 is assigned to tx_queue_len according to the original
logic.

The preferred module is p54pci which also supports FullMAC
PCI / Cardbus devices. We schedule removal for 2.6.34. Reason
to remove this is no one really is testing prism54 anymore,
and while it works p54pci provides support for the same hardware.
It should be noted I have been told some FullMAC devices may not
have worked with the SoftMAC driver but to date we have yet to
recieve a single bug report regarding this. If there are users
out there please let us know!

Currently, when QoS-disable is requested, we would leave QoS enabled
in firmware, but only queue frames on one queue.
Change that and also tell firmware about disabled QoS, so it
completely ignores all the QoS parameters. Also don't upload the parameters,
if QoS is disabled.

The calculated values for the ACK timeout and ACK
consume time are different then the values as
used by the Legacy drivers.
After testing from James Ledwith it appeared that
the calculated values caused a high amount of TX
failures, and the values from the Legacy drivers
were the most optimal to prevent TX failure due to
excessive retries.
The symptoms of this problem:
- Rate control module always falls back to 1Mbs
- Low throughput when bitrate was fixed
Possible side-effects (not confirmed but highly likely)
- Problems with DHCP
- Broken connections due to lack of probe response
This should fix at least:

but possible some additional bugs as well.

apply the conformance test limits (CTL) stored in the eeprom upon
the values calculated for the tx power (ar->power_*).
This is based on the implementation in the vendor driver
(hal/hpmain.c, line 3700 ff.) with one difference:
If any ctl mode isn't found in the eeprom, we fall back to the "lower",
legacy modes (5GHT20,11A or 2GHT20,11G,11B). Otus only did 5GHT20->11A.
Currently CTL are applied for the FCC group only.

Use a threaded IRQ handler to allow locking the mutex and
sleeping while executing an interrupt.
This removes usage of the irq_lock spinlock, but introduces
a new hardirq_lock, which is _only_ used for the PCI/SSB lowlevel
hard-irq handler. Sleeping busses (SDIO) will use mutex instead.

This patch ports some code from the vendor driver, which is
supposed to upload the right calibration values for the
chosen frequency.
In theory, this should give a better range and throughput
for all users with the open, or one-stage firmware.

CHANNEL_G has to be set for 2GHZ channels since
IS_CHAN_G() checks for this in channelFlags and not in
chanmode. To make things messier, ath9k_hw_process_ini()
checks for CHANNEL_G in chanmode and not in channelFlags.
The supreme, brain-searing fix is to set the
flag in both cases.

We've cleaned up ath_init_device() and its children enough
to pass meaninful errors back from probe. When this fails
it means our device could not be initialized and a meaninful
error will have been passed.
Do the same for request_irq() and also synchronize the error
messages while at it.

When UMAC stalls or asserts, we want to reset the device. But when we're
associated, the current reset worker will end up calling
cfg80211_connect_result() with the cfg80211 sme layer knowing that we're
reassociating. That ends up with some ugly warnings.
With this patch we're telling the upper layer that we've roamed if
reassociation succeeds, and that we're disconnected if it fails.

The LMAC calibration API got broken mostly by having a configuration bitmap
being different than the result one.
This patch tries to address that issue by correctly running calibrations with
the newest firmwares, and keeping a backward compatibility fallback path for
older firmwares, where the configuration and result bitmaps were identical.

When the driver receives "connection terminated" event from device,
it could be caused by 2 reasons: the firmware is roaming or the
connection is lost (AP disappears). For the former, an association
complete event is supposed to come within 3 seconds. For the latter,
the driver won't receive any event except the connection terminated.
So we kick a delayed work (5*HZ) when we receive the connection
terminated event. It will be canceled if it turns out to be a roaming
event later. Otherwise we notify SME and userspace the disconnection.

(or failure) events when roaming occours. The patch uses

When connect is called with the LEGACY_PSK authentication type set, and a
proper sme->key, we need to set the WEP key straight after setting the

The old function rt2x00queue_payload_align() handled
both adding and removing L2 padding and some basic
frame alignment. The entire function was being abused
because it had multiple functions and the header length
argument was somtimes used to align the header instead
of the payload.
Additionally there was a bug when inserting L2 padding
that only the payload was aligned but not the header. This
happens when the header wasn't aligned properly by mac80211,
but rt2x00lib only moves the payload.
A secondary problem was that when removing L2 padding during
TXdone or RX the skb wasn't resized to the proper size.
Split the function into seperate functions each handling
its task as it should.

Not all values of the TX status enumeration were
covered during updating of the TX statistics. This
could lead to wrong bitrate tuning but also wrong
behavior in tools like hostapd.

Significant literature suggests users use debug flags 0x43fff - this causes
the debug flags to be set that causes information to be printed for every
received frame - including beacons. In the best case it fills up the logs,
at worst it slows driver down and causes failures due to timeouts.
In the RX handler, print debugging only if user requested RX debugging.

Some concerns were raised about the automatic adjustment
of sleep intervals to all the same, potentially high,
value, and I can imagine the hardware behaving better
when we don't ask too much of it.
So let's convert to use a succession of sleep levels
when requesting to go to deeper sleeps (which can only
happen with large DTIM intervals), using the succession
values from power level three, which have the benefit of
also having been tested extensively already.
As a result, the automatic sleep level adjustment will
now be mostly equivalent to power level three, except
for the RX/TX timeouts and possibly using smaller sleep
vectors to account for networking latency.

For HT packets, mac80211 expects the rate_idx to be an MCS number, which is the
lower byte of rate_n_flags. However, iwl_hwrate_to_plcp_idx takes the MCS
number and reduces it down to the range 0-8 (6 to 60 Mbps), removing the bits
that signify multiply streams, HT40 Duplicate mode, or unequal modulation.
This version is used for various internal purposes through the driver.
Add the function iwl_hwrate_get_mac80211_idx, an alternate version which takes
the rate and the band and returns the mac80211 index (MCS, for HT packets, and
PLCP rate, for legacy packets).

Refactor and correct rate selection for outgoing transmitted
packets.
First, note that HT rates in the mac80211 rate table do not provide valid
indices when ieee80211_get_tx_rate is called; the check to see if we could to
abort a transmission early in iwl_tx_skb() would thus occasionally read invalid
memory and occasionally stall transmission (if the erroneous byte was 0xff).
We remove that code; the check wasn't valid anyway.
Second, iwl_tx_cmd_build_rate() also called ieee80211_get_tx_rate to be used
for sending management packets, which do not use the uCode station table. This
patch refactors that function and adds comments to enhance legibility, replaces
the call to ieee80211_get_tx_rate() with a direct lookup, and adds error
handling in case the table entry is invalid.

ieee80211_supported_band is supposed to only contain legacy rates in the
bitrates table (HT rates go in the ieee80211_sta_ht_cap substruct). Make
iwlwifi driver obey this restriction by removing the 60 Mbps rate. Also, clean
up a few pieces of other code that formerly relied on 60 Mbps being in
sband->bitrates.

Random essid must be set to turn on radio when not connected. If device is

Increase scan delay from 1 sec to 6 sec. Spec says that scan by
OID_802_11_BSSID_LIST_SCAN completes in 6 seconds.
Before rfkill patch too short delay was not problem as device was
always active (radio on) and performing background scanning.

Setting WPA keys with OID_802_11_ADD_KEY sometimes trigger
instant media connect indication. These indications are extranous and
should be ignored, as otherwise driver would send reassociation event to
userspace which in this case is not needed.

The A/G-PHY changes are fallout fixes from the enum change,
which in turn allows the LP-PHY code to be much simpler.
The antenna_to_phyctl change is a fix for a potential

The most common LP-PHY device, BCM4312, is now fully functional.
So, no need to say "probably won't work for you" anymore.
It's also not "for debuggers and developers only", as it is
perfectly usable for end-users now (at least for BCM4312).

AR5K_SREV is available even if the chip has been put to sleep. Relying
on the chip register allows binding non-standard PCI IDs by
echo VENDOR_ID PRODUCT_ID >/sys/bus/pci/drivers/ath5k/new_id
without having to specify the driver data as well.

The `val' variable in ath5k_eeprom_read_turbo_modes() is used
uninitialized. gcc 4.4.1 with -fno-inline-functions-called-once reports
it:

Comparing the code to the Atheros HAL, it's clear that the split between
ath5k_eeprom_read_modes() and ath5k_eeprom_read_turbo_modes() was
incorrect.
The Atheros HAL reads both turbo and non-turbo data from EEPROM in one
function. Some turbo mode parameters are derived from the same EEPROM
values as non-turbo parameters, just from different bits.
Merge ath5k_eeprom_read_turbo_modes() into ath5k_eeprom_read_modes() to
fix the warning. The actual values and offsets have been cross-checked
against Atheros HAL.

The ICT IRQ table is a set of __le32 values, not u32 values,
so when reading it we need to take into account that it has
to be converted to CPU endianness. This was causing a lot of
trouble on my powerpc box where various things would simply
not work for no apparent reason with 5xxx cards, but worked
with 4965 -- which doesn't use the ICT table.

-Fix a few nasty typos (b43_phy_* operations instead of b43_radio_*)
in the channel tune routines.
-Fix some typos & spec errors found by MMIO tracing.
-Optimize b43_phy_write & b43_phy_mask/set/maskset to use
only the minimal number of MMIO accesses. (Write is possible
using a single 32-bit MMIO write, while set/mask/maskset can
be done in 3 16-bit MMIOs).
-Set the default channel back to 1, as the bug forcing us to use
channel 7 is now fixed.
With this, the device comes up, scans, associates, transmits,
receives, monitors and injects on all channels - in other words,
it's fully functional. Sensitivity and TX power are still sub-optimal,
due to the lack of calibration (that's next on my list).

The Qdiv roundup routine is essentially a fixed-point
division algorithm, using only integer math.
However, the version in the specs had a major error
that has been recently fixed (a missing quotient++).
Replace Qdiv roundup with a rewritten, simplified version.

rndis_wlan does not set cipher suites list for cfg80211 which causes
wext-compat-range to report rndis_wlan not supporting WPA. Patch adds
cipher suites list and fixes NetworkManager not being able to connect to
WPA encrypted APs.

The maze of if() statements in configure_filter is confusing.
Reorganizing it as a switch statement makes it more apparent what
is going on and reveals several suspicious settings. This has no
functional changes, though it does remove some redundant flags
that are set earlier.
Also now that we can sleep, protect sc->filter_flags with the
sc lock.

If NetworkManager is busy scanning when user
tries to unload the module, the driver can not be unloaded
because HW still scanning.
Make sure driver sends abort scan host command to uCode if it
is in the middle of scanning during driver unload.

Fix following error by sending synchronous command and waiting for the command
to complete.
mac80211-phy0: failed to remove key (0, ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff) from hardware (-16).
-16 is EBUSY error. The asynchronous command tests for STATUS_EXIT_PENDING
while interface is getting down and it returns -EBUSY error if set.
Changing the host command from asynchronous call to synchronous call
enables command to be run while interface is going down.

For 6000 series and up, additional enhanced regulatory tx power
limitation information is added to EEPROM image.
In order to setup the tx power limitation per channel correctly. Read
the enhanced tx power information from EEPROM image and update
accordingly.
The information is provided per SISO (a,b,c) chain based, it also has
information for both MIMO2 and MIMO3. For tx power regulatory
limitation, take the highest number from all the chains and update.
Also update tx_power_user_lmt to the highest power supported by any
channels and chains

Clear the flags (most importantly, the IEEE80211_TX_RC_MCS flag)
when sending a non-HT packet so that the rate index can be properly treated.
This fixes the reporting of legacy rates in wireless-extensions for packets
sent after an HT packet.

debugFs file show current tx power for all the transmit chains
Adding "tx_power" file in /sys/kernal/debug/ieee80211/phy0/iwlagn/debug
to display current tx power for all the active chains in 1/2 dB step.
Show tx power information "Not available" if uCode can not provide the
information or interface is down.

When setting tx power in sysfs, check against max channel tx power
limit instead of IWL_TX_POWER_TARGET_POWER_MAX.
Different devices have different max tx power limit; using
IWL_TX_POWER_TARGET_POWER_MAX can excess the limitaion and give wrong
information.

broke injection of non-broadcast frames to unassociated stations
(causing a SYSASSERT for all such injected frames), due to injected
frames no longer automatically getting a broadcast station ID assigned.
This patch restores the old behavior, fixing the aforementioned
regression.
Also, consistently check for IEEE80211_TX_CTL_INJECTED instead of
iwl_is_monitor_mode in the TX path, as TX_CTL_INJECTED specifically
means that a given packet is coming from a monitor interface, while
iwl_is_monitor_mode only shows whether a monitor interface exists
on the device.

The CF8305 is a very old silicon running firmware version 3.0 . This card also
needs some special treatment as it's so old it can't do unaligned register
access. But since that happens only at one place, there were no changes made to
the register access functions, but instead that particular place was fixed.
Also, this card uses only one-stage firmware which is loaded the same way as
helper firmware. The second-stage firmware isn't loaded on this card and doesn't
therefore have to be supplied.

Clarify what the heck the function is doing with better variable names
and less indirection and better comments. Also ensure callers use the
proper minimum size, even though all rates arrays should be size
MAX_RATES anyway. Reverts part of Andrey's dynamic alloc patch since we
don't really need it. Also leaves the passed-in rates array alone on
errors.

Configure them properly with the values retrieved from
the EEPROM.

The patch "mac80211: fix PS-poll response race" somehow broke
broadcast buffering in a funny way.
During normal operation - stations are awake - the firmware refused
to transmit broadcast frames and reported P54_TX_PSM_CANCELLED.
But everything worked as soon as one station entered PSM.
The reason:
The stack sets IEEE80211_TX_CTL_SEND_AFTER_DTIM for outgoing
broadcast frames as soon as a station is marked as sleeping.
This flag triggers a path which will reroute these frames
into p54's "content after beacon" queue, which is designed
to cope with the demands for psm.
This patch restores the old behavior.
IEEE80211_TX_CTL_CLEAR_PS_FILT will once again be used to signalize
the firmware to ignore the ps canceling for certain frames.

Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz reported an atomic order-6 allocation failure
for ipw2200 firmware loading in kernel 2.6.30. High order allocation is
likely to fail and should always be avoided.
The patch fixes this problem by replacing the original order-6
pci_alloc_consistent() with an array of order-1 pages from a pci pool.
This utilized the ipw2200 DMA command blocks (up to 64 slots). The
maximum firmware size support remains the same (64*8K).

RTL8187B always needs MSR_LINK_ENEDCA flag to be set even when it is in
no link mode, otherwise it'll not be able to associate when this flag is
not set after the change "mac80211: fix managed mode BSSID handling".
By accident, setting BSSID of AP before association makes 8187B to
successfuly associate even when ENEDCA flag isn't set, which was the
case before the mac80211 change. But now the BSSID of AP we are trying
to associate is only available after association is successful, and
any attempt to associate without the needed flag doesn't work.

The current mwl8k_priv->fw_lock spinlock doesn't actually protect
against multiple commands being submitted at once, as it is not kept
held over the entire firmware command submission. And since waiting
for command completion sleeps, we can't use a spinlock anyway.
To fix mwl8k firmware command serialisation properly, we have the
following requirements:
- Some commands require that the packet transmit path is idle when
the command is issued. (For simplicity, we'll just quiesce the
transmit path for every command.)
- There are certain sequences of commands that need to be issued to
the hardware sequentially, with no other intervening commands.
This leads to an implementation of a "firmware lock" as a mutex that
can be taken recursively, and which is taken by both the low-level
command submission function (mwl8k_post_cmd) as well as any users of
that function that require issuing of an atomic sequence of commands,
and quiesces the transmit path whenever it's taken.

Delete most of the mwl8k_work_struct fields and options, since most
of them are unused or never changed from their defaults:
- We always use priv->config_wq, so delete the wqueue argument from
mwl8k_queue_work().
- MWL8K_WQ_SPIN and MWL8K_WQ_POST_REQUEST are never used, as all
callers sleep for request completion, so sleep unconditionally.
- MWL8K_WQ_FREE_WORKSTRUCT is never used.
- MWL8K_WQ_TX_WAIT_EMPTY is always set, so assume it unconditionally.
- timeout_ms/txwait_attempts/tx_timeout_ms are never changed from
their defaults, so just hardcode these in the workqueue worker.
- step is never used.

Various mwl8k_txq_xmit changes:
- Extract the QoS field before adding the DMA header.
- Only write to tx->status once, and only after all the other
descriptor fields have been set.
- Do all tx state manipulation under the tx spinlock.
- Remove the priv->inconfig check, as all transmit queues will
be frozen during config cycles, so we won't ever be asked to
transmit if a config cycle is running.
- Remove some more dead code.

Since firmware load commands don't generate 'command done' interrupts
like normal commands do, polling for command done interrupts just
unnecessarily slows down the firmware load process. Removing this bit
of code speeds up loading a typical firmware image from 840 msec to
180 msec.

Adding and removing the DMA header that the mwl8k hardware requires
on tx and provides on rx can never fail, since we are guaranteed to
have enough headroom on the tx path to expand the packet, and we only
ever shrink the packet on the rx path. (And on both paths we are
guaranteed to be the only user of the skb we are handling.)
This allows removing all of the skb clone handling in the tx and tx
reclaim paths, and eliminates error checks in both the tx and rx
paths, simplifying the code a bit more.

mwl8k_configure_filter() passes pointers to total_flags and the
multicast address list to a workqueue function, while there is no
guarantee that those pointers will still be valid by the time the
workqueue function runs.
Solve this by passing total_flags by value, and by passing an
already built multicast address setup command packet to the workqueue
function so that we don't have to look at the multicast address list
itself outside of mwl8k_configure_filter().
Also, since ->configure_filter() can sleep now, wait synchronously
for the worker to finish.

pass the 'enable' and 'force' arguments as separate parameters, and
introduce wrappers for the common cases of enabling and disabling
without forcing.

Other than ns_avgbrssi (Average beacon rssi) no data of
ath9k_node_stats is being used anywhere. Nuke this structure
and move its only useful member to ar5416Anistate. Also cleanup
this redundant data in ath_softc.

Currently the beacon rssi that LPF gives is divided and rounded
up by ATH_RSSI_EP_MULTIPLIER twice. This will leave the incorrect rssi
in ANI. Having correct rssi in ANI fixes the connection stability at
< 30dB rssi range. This patch removes the unncessary computation of average
rssi over already valid average rssi. Also removes the redundant macros to
find average rssi.

Larry has started re-checking all current routines against a new
version of the Broadcom MIPS driver. This patch implements the first
round of changes he documented on the specs wiki.
Also remove a few FIXMEs regarding missing initial values for variables
with dynamic initial values where reading the values has been implemented.

The specs are beginning to support rev3 LP-PHYs - implement one of
the changes needed for rev3 support.
Also, in the new MIPS driver, the "Japan TX filter" was renamed to
"analog TX filter init" - however, calling it "init" is confusing,
so name it "set analog filter", with a comment for easier future
identification.

The bss_info_changed() callback function no longer needs
to be atomic. Remove the scheduled work structure and
call into the driver directly.
Additionaly this makes the DRIVER_REQUIRE_SCHEDULED
flag redundant so it can be removed.

In ath9k_stop(), tx_complete_work was being cancelled twice.

After initial power-up, the embedded cpu is usually halted. However,
if we down the interface and only do a soft reset before bringing
the interface back up, it will still be running and the firmware
loading code will bail out. This change halts the CPU before loading
the firmware, enabling a second call to wl1251_boot() to succeed
without a hard reset.

rt2800pci can handle different retry rates,
it will always step 1 rate down after a failed
transmission so creating the retry rate list
for mac80211 is quite simple.

In the TX descriptor the Packet ID must not be 0,
so add 1 to the ID. The wireless CLI ID is not allowed
to be 0 either, but also must be initialized with the
wcid value rather then keyid.

When the RX descriptor indicates the frame was L2 padded,
the SKBDESC_L2_PADDED flag should be set to make sure the
L2 padding is removed before it is send to mac80211.

The rfkill_poll callback function in the drivers check a bit
to see if the RFKILL key has been pressed. However when the
bit is set it means the radio is active and the device can be
used.
The wiphy_rfkill_set_hw_state() function expects the inversed,
so '1' must be send when the radio must be disabled.

ACX_SLV_SOFT_RESET_BIT and ACX_REG_EEPROM_START_BIT are both defined
as "1" in the vendor driver code, but they were defined to be BIT(1)
("2") here.
The SOFT_RESET typo ensures that wl1251_boot_soft_reset() doesn't;
as a result the device hangs when trying to reprogram the PLL
registers while running.

Over time, a whole bunch of drivers have come up
with their own scheme to delay the configure_filter
operation to a workqueue. To be able to simplify
things, allow configure_filter to sleep, and add
a new prepare_multicast callback that drivers that
need the multicast address list implement. This new
callback must be atomic, but most drivers either
don't care or just calculate a hash which can be
done atomically and then uploaded to the hardware
non-atomically.
A cursory look suggests that at76c50x-usb, ar9170,
mwl8k (which is actually very broken now), rt2x00,
wl1251, wl1271 and zd1211 should make use of this
new capability.

Larry has reported success getting scan data with an LP-PHY device,
so it's probably time to release LP-PHY support for testing.
Also disable 802.11a support for now, as 802.11a currently causes
the driver to panic on startup (NULL pointer dereference).

A few typos have been discovered in both the specs and the code.
This patch fixes them.
Also use lpphy_op_switch_channel consistently, and make all users
of it print its return value for easier debugging.

The spec had some nasty typos, and a large part of the rev0/1 BB
init procedure was also missing. Fix these.
Also make the init-time channel switch debuggable.
(The change from -EINVAL to -EIO is simply to make it possible
to distinguish the PLL charge pump error from a channel-not-found
error.)

Johannes kindly pointed out that I completely missed a hunk in
his patch: "[PATCH] cfg80211: allow driver to override PS default".
The driver must explicitly set ps_default to false,
as the setting is pre-filled with the kconfig default.
