b6c2bfea09 svcrdma: Relieve contention on sc_send_lock.
/proc/lock_stat indicates the the sc_send_lock is heavily
contended when the server is under load from a single client.

To address this, convert the send_ctxt free list to an llist.
Returning an item to the send_ctxt cache is now waitless, which
reduces the instruction path length in the single-threaded Send
handler (svc_rdma_wc_send).

The goal is to enable the ib_comp_wq worker to handle a higher
RPC/RDMA Send completion rate given the same CPU resources. This
change reduces CPU utilization of Send completion by 2-3% on my
server.

6c8c84f525 svcrdma: Fewer calls to wake_up() in Send completion handler
Because wake_up() takes an IRQ-safe lock, it can be expensive,
especially to call inside of a single-threaded completion handler.
What's more, the Send wait queue almost never has waiters, so
most of the time, this is an expensive no-op.

As always, the goal is to reduce the average overhead of each
completion, because a transport's completion handlers are single-
threaded on one CPU core. This change reduces CPU utilization of
the Send completion thread by 2-3% on my server.

f99fa50880 SUNRPC/xprtrdma: Fix reconnection locking
The xprtrdma client code currently relies on the task that initiated the
connect to hold the XPRT_LOCK for the duration of the connection
attempt. If the task is woken early, due to some other event, then that
lock could get released early.
Avoid races by using the same mechanism that the socket code uses of
transferring lock ownership to the RDMA connect worker itself. That
frees us to call rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect() directly since we're now
guaranteed exclusion w.r.t. other callers.

8d863b1f05 xprtrdma: Eliminate rpcrdma_post_sends()
Clean up.

Now that there is only one registration mode, there is only one
target "post_send" method: frwr_send(). rpcrdma_post_sends() no
longer adds much value, especially since all of its call sites
ignore the return code value except to check if it's non-zero.

Just have them call frwr_send() directly instead.

d9ae8134f2 xprtrdma: Add an xprtrdma_post_send_err tracepoint
Unlike xprtrdma_post_send(), this one can be left enabled all the
time, and should almost never fire. But we do want to know about
immediate errors when they happen.

Note that there is already a similar post_linv_err tracepoint.

683f31c3ab xprtrdma: Add xprtrdma_post_recvs_err() tracepoint
In the vast majority of cases, rc=0. Don't record that in the
post_recvs tracepoint. Instead, add a separate tracepoint that can
be left enabled all the time to capture the very rare immediate
errors returned by ib_post_recv().

1143129e4d xprtrdma: Disconnect after an ib_post_send() immediate error
ib_post_send() does not disconnect the QP when it returns an
immediate error. Thus, the code that posts LocalInv has to
explicitly disconnect after an immediate error. This is just
like the frwr_send() callers handle it.

If a disconnect isn't done here, the transport deadlocks.

ae605ee983 xprtrdma: Revert 586a0787ce
Commit 9ed5af268e ("SUNRPC: Clean up the handling of page padding
in rpc_prepare_reply_pages()") [Dec 2020] affects RPC Replies that
have a data payload (i.e., Write chunks).

rpcrdma_prepare_readch(), as its name suggests, sets up Read chunks
which are data payloads within RPC Calls. Those payloads are
constructed by xdr_write_pages(), which continues to stuff the call
buffer's tail kvec with the payload's XDR roundup. Thus removing
the tail buffer logic in rpcrdma_prepare_readch() was the wrong
thing to do.

9e895cd964 xprtrdma: Fix a NULL dereference in frwr_unmap_sync()
The normal mechanism that invalidates and unmaps MRs is
frwr_unmap_async(). frwr_unmap_sync() is used only when an RPC
Reply bearing Write or Reply chunks has been lost (ie, almost
never).

Coverity found that after commit 9a301cafc8 ("xprtrdma: Move
fr_linv_done field to struct rpcrdma_mr"), the while() loop in
frwr_unmap_sync() exits only once @mr is NULL, unconditionally
causing subsequent dereferences of @mr to Oops.

I've tested this fix by creating a client that skips invoking
frwr_unmap_async() when RPC Replies complete. That forces all
invalidation tasks to fall upon frwr_unmap_sync(). Simple workloads
with this fix applied to the adulterated client work as designed.

4ddd0fc32c xprtrdma: Add tracepoints showing FastReg WRs and remote invalidation
The Send signaling logic is a little subtle, so add some
observability around it. For every xprtrdma_mr_fastreg event, there
should be an xprtrdma_mr_localinv or xprtrdma_mr_reminv event.

When these tracepoints are enabled, we can see exactly when an MR is
DMA-mapped, registered, invalidated (either locally or remotely) and
then DMA-unmapped.

b3ce7a25f4 xprtrdma: Avoid Send Queue wrapping
Send WRs can be signalled or unsignalled. A signalled Send WR
always has a matching Send completion, while a unsignalled Send
has a completion only if the Send WR fails.

xprtrdma has a Send account mechanism that is designed to reduce
the number of signalled Send WRs. This in turn mitigates the
interrupt rate of the underlying device.

RDMA consumers can't leave all Sends unsignaled, however, because
providers rely on Send completions to maintain their Send Queue head
and tail pointers. xprtrdma counts the number of unsignaled Send WRs
that have been posted to ensure that Sends are signalled often
enough to prevent the Send Queue from wrapping.

This mechanism neglected to account for FastReg WRs, which are
posted on the Send Queue but never signalled. As a result, the
Send Queue wrapped on occasion, resulting in duplication completions
of FastReg and LocalInv WRs.

8a053433de xprtrdma: Do not wake RPC consumer on a failed LocalInv
Throw away any reply where the LocalInv flushes or could not be
posted. The registered memory region is in an unknown state until
the disconnect completes.

rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect() will find and release the MR. No need to
put it back on the MR free list in this case.

The client retransmits pending RPC requests once it reestablishes a
fresh connection, so a replacement reply should be forthcoming on
the next connection instance.

e4b52ca013 xprtrdma: Do not recycle MR after FastReg/LocalInv flushes
Better not to touch MRs involved in a flush or post error until the
Send and Receive Queues are drained and the transport is fully
quiescent. Simply don't insert such MRs back onto the free list.
They remain on mr_all and will be released when the connection is
torn down.

I had thought that recycling would prevent hardware resources from
being tied up for a long time. However, since v5.7, a transport
disconnect destroys the QP and other hardware-owned resources. The
MRs get cleaned up nicely at that point.

35d8b10a25 xprtrdma: Fix cwnd update ordering
After a reconnect, the reply handler is opening the cwnd (and thus
enabling more RPC Calls to be sent) /before/ rpcrdma_post_recvs()
can post enough Receive WRs to receive their replies. This causes an
RNR and the new connection is lost immediately.

The race is most clearly exposed when KASAN and disconnect injection
are enabled. This slows down rpcrdma_rep_create() enough to allow
the send side to post a bunch of RPC Calls before the Receive
completion handler can invoke ib_post_recv().

Currently rpcrdma_reps_destroy() assumes that, at transport
tear-down, the content of the rb_free_reps list is the same as the
content of the rb_all_reps list. Although that is usually true,
using the rb_all_reps list should be more reliable because of
the way it's managed. And, rpcrdma_reps_unmap() uses rb_all_reps;
these two functions should both traverse the "all" list.

Ensure that all rpcrdma_reps are always destroyed whether they are
on the rep free list or not.

15788d1d10 xprtrdma: Do not refresh Receive Queue while it is draining
Currently the Receive completion handler refreshes the Receive Queue
whenever a successful Receive completion occurs.

On disconnect, xprtrdma drains the Receive Queue. The first few
Receive completions after a disconnect are typically successful,
until the first flushed Receive.

This means the Receive completion handler continues to post more
Receive WRs after the drain sentinel has been posted. The late-
posted Receives flush after the drain sentinel has completed,
leading to a crash later in rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect().

To prevent this crash, xprtrdma has to ensure that the Receive
handler stops posting Receives before ib_drain_rq() posts its
drain sentinel.

Commit e340c2d6ef ("xprtrdma: Reduce the doorbell rate (Receive)")
increased the number of Receive WRs that are posted by the client,
but did not increase the size of the Receive Queue allocated during
transport set-up.

This is usually not an issue because RPCRDMA_BACKWARD_WRS is defined
as (32) when SUNRPC_BACKCHANNEL is defined. In cases where it isn't,
there is a real risk of Receive Queue wrapping.

7638e0bfae SUNRPC: Move fault injection call sites
I've hit some crashes that occur in the xprt_rdma_inject_disconnect
path. It appears that, for some provides, rdma_disconnect() can
take so long that the transport can disconnect and release its
hardware resources while rdma_disconnect() is still running,
resulting in a UAF in the provider.

The transport's fault injection method may depend on the stability
of transport data structures. That means it needs to be invoked
only from contexts that hold the transport write lock.

7d81ee8722 svcrdma: Single-stage RDMA Read
Currently the generic RPC server layer calls svc_rdma_recvfrom()
twice to retrieve an RPC message that uses Read chunks. I'm not
exactly sure why this design was chosen originally.

Instead, let's wait for the Read chunk completion inline in the
first call to svc_rdma_recvfrom().

The goal is to eliminate some page allocator churn.
rdma_read_complete() replaces pages in the second svc_rqst by
calling put_page() repeatedly while the upper layer waits for the
request to be constructed, which adds unnecessary NFS WRITE round-
trip latency.

82011c80b3 SUNRPC: Move svc_xprt_received() call sites
Currently, XPT_BUSY is not cleared until xpo_recvfrom returns.
That effectively blocks the receipt and handling of the next RPC
message until the current one has been taken off the transport.
This strict ordering is a requirement for socket transports.

For our kernel RPC/RDMA transport implementation, however, dequeuing
an ingress message is nothing more than a list_del(). The transport
can safely be marked un-busy as soon as that is done.

To keep the changes simpler, this patch just moves the
svc_xprt_received() call site from svc_handle_xprt() into the
transports, so that the actual optimization can be done in a
subsequent patch.

2a1e4f21d8 svcrdma: Normalize Send page handling
Currently svc_rdma_sendto() migrates xdr_buf pages into a separate
page list and NULLs out a bunch of entries in rq_pages while the
pages are under I/O. The Send completion handler then frees those
pages later.

Instead, let's wait for the Send completion, then handle page
releasing in the nfsd thread. I'd like to avoid the cost of 250+
put_page() calls in the Send completion handler, which is single-
threaded.

Refactor a bit of commonly used logic so that every site that wants
a close deferred to an nfsd thread does all the right things
(set_bit(XPT_CLOSE) then enqueue).

Also, once XPT_CLOSE is set on a transport, it is never cleared. If
XPT_CLOSE is already set, then the close is already being handled
and the enqueue can be skipped.

bade4be69a svcrdma: Revert "svcrdma: Reduce Receive doorbell rate"
I tested commit 43042b90ca ("svcrdma: Reduce Receive doorbell
rate") with mlx4 (IB) and software iWARP and didn't find any
issues. However, I recently got my hardware iWARP setup back on
line (FastLinQ) and it's crashing hard on this commit (confirmed
via bisect).

The failure mode is complex.
 - After a connection is established, the first Receive completes
   normally.
 - But the second and third Receives have garbage in their Receive
   buffers. The server responds with ERR_VERS as a result.
 - When the client tears down the connection to retry, a couple
   of posted Receives flush twice, and that corrupts the recv_ctxt
   free list.
 - __svc_rdma_free then faults or loops infinitely while destroying
   the xprt's recv_ctxts.

Since 43042b90ca ("svcrdma: Reduce Receive doorbell rate") does
not fix a bug but is a scalability enhancement, it's safe and
appropriate to revert it while working on a replacement.

This brings it in line with the regular tcp backchannel, which also has
all those timeouts disabled.

Prevents the backchannel from timing out, getting some async operations
like server side copying getting stuck indefinitely on the client side.

0ac24c320c svcrdma: Hold private mutex while invoking rdma_accept()
RDMA core mutex locking was restructured by commit d114c6feed
("RDMA/cma: Add missing locking to rdma_accept()") [Aug 2020]. When
lock debugging is enabled, the RPC/RDMA server trips over the new
lockdep assertion in rdma_accept() because it doesn't call
rdma_accept() from its CM event handler.

As a temporary fix, have svc_rdma_accept() take the handler_mutex
explicitly. In the meantime, let's consider how to restructure the
RPC/RDMA transport to invoke rdma_accept() from the proper context.

Calls to svc_rdma_accept() are serialized with calls to
svc_rdma_free() by the generic RPC server layer.

Since commit 9ed5af268e ("SUNRPC: Clean up the handling of page
padding in rpc_prepare_reply_pages()") [Dec 2020] the NFS client
passes payload data to the transport with the padding in xdr->pages
instead of in the send buffer's tail kvec. There's no need for the
extra logic to advance the base of the tail kvec because the upper
layer no longer places XDR padding there.

2324fbedc2 xprtrdma: Pad optimization, revisited
The NetApp Linux team discovered that with NFS/RDMA servers that do
not support RFC 8797, the Linux client is forming NFSv4.x WRITE
requests incorrectly.

In this case, the Linux NFS client disables implicit chunk round-up
for odd-length Read and Write chunks. The goal was to support old
servers that needed that padding to be sent explicitly by clients.

In that case the Linux NFS included the tail kvec in the Read chunk,
since the tail contains any needed padding. That meant a separate
memory registration is needed for the tail kvec, adding to the cost
of forming such requests. To avoid that cost for a mere 3 bytes of
zeroes that are always ignored by receivers, we try to use implicit
roundup when possible.

For NFSv4.x, the tail kvec also sometimes contains a trailing
GETATTR operation. The Linux NFS client unintentionally includes
that GETATTR operation in the Read chunk as well as inline.

The fix is simply to /never/ include the tail kvec when forming a
data payload Read chunk. The padding is thus now always present.

Note that since commit 9ed5af268e ("SUNRPC: Clean up the handling
of page padding in rpc_prepare_reply_pages()") [Dec 2020] the NFS
client passes payload data to the transport with the padding in
xdr->pages instead of in the send buffer's tail kvec. So now the
Linux NFS client appends XDR padding to all odd-sized Read chunks.
This shouldn't be a problem because:

 - RFC 8166-compliant servers are supposed to work with or without
   that XDR padding in Read chunks.

 - Since the padding is now in the same memory region as the data
   payload, a separate memory registration is not needed. In
   addition, the link layer extends data in RDMA Read responses to
   4-byte boundaries anyway. Thus there is now no savings when the
   padding is not included.

Because older kernels include the payload's XDR padding in the
tail kvec, a fix there will be more complicated. Thus backporting
this patch is not recommended.

Remove a conditional branch from the SGL set-up loop in frwr_map():
Instead of using either sg_set_page() or sg_set_buf(), initialize

kvec to an SGL entry. frwr_map() can then invoke sg_set_page()
unconditionally.

9929f4adce xprtrdma: Remove FMR support in rpcrdma_convert_iovs()
Support for FMR was removed by commit ba69cd122e ("xprtrdma:
Remove support for FMR memory registration") [Dec 2018]. That means
the buffer-splitting behavior of rpcrdma_convert_kvec(), added by
commit 821c791a0b ("xprtrdma: Segment head and tail XDR buffers
on page boundaries") [Mar 2016], is no longer necessary. FRWR
memory registration handles this case with aplomb.

dd2d055b27 svcrdma: DMA-sync the receive buffer in svc_rdma_recvfrom()
The Receive completion handler doesn't look at the contents of the
Receive buffer. The DMA sync isn't terribly expensive but it's one
less thing that needs to be done by the Receive completion handler,
which is single-threaded (per svc_xprt). This helps scalability.

15261b9126 xprtrdma: Fix XDRBUF_SPARSE_PAGES support
Olga K. observed that rpcrdma_marsh_req() allocates sparse pages
only when it has determined that a Reply chunk is necessary. There
are plenty of cases where no Reply chunk is needed, but the
XDRBUF_SPARSE_PAGES flag is set. The result would be a crash in
rpcrdma_inline_fixup() when it tries to copy parts of the received
Reply into a missing page.

To avoid crashing, handle sparse page allocation up front.

Until XATTR support was added, this issue did not appear often
because the only SPARSE_PAGES consumer always expected a reply large
enough to always require a Reply chunk.

According to RFC5666, the correct netid for an IPv6 addressed RDMA
transport is "rdma6", which we've supported as a mount option since
Linux-4.7. The problem is when we try to load the module "xprtrdma6",
that will fail, since there is no modulealias of that name.

d7cc739726 svcrdma: support multiple Read chunks per RPC
An efficient way to handle multiple Read chunks is to post them all
together and then take a single completion. This is also how the
code is already structured: when the Read completion fires, all
portions of the incoming RPC message are available to be assembled.

The difficult problem is setting up the Read sink buffers so that
the server pulls the client's data into place, making subsequent
pull-up unnecessary. There are several cases:

* No Read chunks. No-op.

* One data item Read chunk. This is the fast case, where the inline
  part of the RPC-over-RDMA message becomes the head and tail, and
  the data item chunk is placed in buf->pages.

* A Position-zero Read chunk. Treated like TCP: the Read chunk is
  pulled into contiguous pages.

+ A Position-zero Read chunk with data item chunks. Treated like
  TCP: all of the Read chunks are pulled into contiguous pages.

+ Multiple data item chunks. Treated like TCP: the inline part is
  copied and the data item chunks are pulled into contiguous pages.

The "*" cases are already supported. This patch adds support for the
"+" cases.

78147ca8b4 svcrdma: Add a "parsed chunk list" data structure
This simple data structure binds the location of each data payload
inside of an RPC message to the chunk that will be used to push it
to or pull it from the client.

There are several benefits to this small additional overhead:

 * It enables support for more than one chunk in incoming Read and
   Write lists.

 * It translates the version-specific on-the-wire format into a
   generic in-memory structure, enabling support for multiple
   versions of the RPC/RDMA transport protocol.

 * It enables the server to re-organize a chunk list if it needs to
   adjust where Read chunk data lands in server memory without
   altering the contents of the XDR-encoded Receive buffer.

Construction of these lists is done while sanity checking each
incoming RPC/RDMA header. Subsequent patches will make use of the
generated data structures.

f6ad77590a svcrdma: Post RDMA Writes while XDR encoding replies
The only RPC/RDMA ordering requirement between RDMA Writes and RDMA
Sends is that the responder must post the Writes on the Send queue
before posting the Send that conveys the RPC Reply for that Write
payload.

The Linux NFS server implementation now has a transport method that
can post result Payload Writes earlier than svc_rdma_sendto:

   ->xpo_result_payload()

This gets RDMA Writes going earlier so they are more likely to be
complete at the remote end before the Send completes.

Some care must be taken with pulled-up Replies. We don't want to
push the Write chunk and then send the same payload data via Send.

76e5492b16 NFSD: Invoke svc_encode_result_payload() in "read" NFSD encoders
Have the NFSD encoders annotate the boundaries of every
direct-data-placement eligible result data payload. Then change
svcrdma to use that annotation instead of the xdr->page_len
when handling Write chunks.

For NFSv4 on RDMA, that enables the ability to recognize multiple
result payloads per compound. This is a pre-requisite for supporting
multiple Write chunks per RPC transaction.

7a03aeb66c xprtrdma: Micro-optimize MR DMA-unmapping
Now that rpcrdma_ep is no longer part of rpcrdma_xprt, there are
four or five serial address dereferences needed to get to the
IB device needed for DMA unmapping.

Instead, let's use the same pattern that regbufs use: cache a
pointer to the device in the MR, and use that as the indication
that unmapping is necessary.

This also guarantees that the exact same device is used for DMA
mapping and unmapping, even if the r_xprt's ep has been replaced. I
don't think this can happen today, but future changes might break
this assumption.

8e24e191d4 xprtrdma: Trace unmap_sync calls
->buf_free is called nearly once per RPC. Only rarely does
xprt_rdma_free() have to do anything, thus tracing every one of
these calls seems unnecessary. Instead, just throw a trace event
when that one occasional RPC still has MRs that need to be
released.

xprt_rdma_free() is further micro-optimized to reduce the amount of
work done in the common case.

5de55ce951 xprtrdma: Release in-flight MRs on disconnect
Dan Aloni reports that when a server disconnects abruptly, a few
memory regions are left DMA mapped. Over time this leak could pin
enough I/O resources to slow or even deadlock an NFS/RDMA client.

I found that if a transport disconnects before pending Send and
FastReg WRs can be posted, the to-be-registered MRs are stranded on
the req's rl_registered list and never released -- since they
weren't posted, there's no Send completion to DMA unmap them.

365e9992b9 svcrdma: Remove transport reference counting
Jason tells me that a ULP cannot rely on getting an ESTABLISHED
and DISCONNECTED event pair for each connection, so transport
reference counting in the CM event handler will never be reliable.

Now that we have ib_drain_qp(), svcrdma should no longer need to
hold transport references while Sends and Receives are posted. So
remove the get/put call sites in the CM event handlers.

This eliminates a significant source of locked memory bus traffic.

64d2642251 svcrdma: Fix another Receive buffer leak
During a connection tear down, the Receive queue is flushed before
the device resources are freed. Typically, all the Receives flush
with IB_WR_FLUSH_ERR.

However, any pending successful Receives flush with IB_WR_SUCCESS,
and the server automatically posts a fresh Receive to replace the
completing one. This happens even after the connection has closed
and the RQ is drained. Receives that are posted after the RQ is
drained appear never to complete, causing a Receive resource leak.
The leaked Receive buffer is left DMA-mapped.

To prevent these late-posted recv_ctxt's from leaking, block new
Receive posting after XPT_CLOSE is set.

The common "send RDMA_ERR" function should be in svc_rdma_sendto.c,
since that is where the other Send-related functions are located.
So from here, I will beef up svc_rdma_send_error_msg() and deprecate

A generic svc_rdma_send_error_msg() will need to handle both
ERR_CHUNK and ERR_VERS. Copy that logic from svc_rdma_send_error()
to svc_rdma_send_error_msg().

made an effort to preserve I/O pages until RDMA Write completion.

In a subsequent patch, I intend to de-duplicate the two functions

Ensure that the connect worker is awoken if an attempt to establish
a connection is unsuccessful. Otherwise the worker waits forever
and the transport workload hangs.

Connect errors should not attempt to destroy the ep, since the
connect worker continues to use it after the handler runs, so these
errors are now handled independently of DISCONNECTED events.

4cf44be6f1 xprtrdma: Fix recursion into rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect()
Both Dan and I have observed two processes invoking
rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect() concurrently. In my case:

1. The connect worker invokes rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect(), which
   drains the QP and waits for the final completion
2. This causes the newly posted Receive to flush and invoke
   xprt_force_disconnect()
3. xprt_force_disconnect() sets CLOSE_WAIT and wakes up the RPC task
   that is holding the transport lock
4. The RPC task invokes xprt_connect(), which calls ->ops->close
5. xprt_rdma_close() invokes rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect(), which tries
   to destroy the QP.

Deadlock.

To prevent xprt_force_disconnect() from waking anything, handle the
clean up after a failed connection attempt in the xprt's sndtask.

The retry loop is removed from rpcrdma_xprt_connect() to ensure
that the newly allocated ep and id are properly released before
a REJECTED connection attempt can be retried.

7b2182ec38 xprtrdma: Fix handling of RDMA_ERROR replies
The RPC client currently doesn't handle ERR_CHUNK replies correctly.
rpcrdma_complete_rqst() incorrectly passes a negative number to
xprt_complete_rqst() as the number of bytes copied. Instead, set
task->tk_status to the error value, and return zero bytes copied.

In these cases, return -EIO rather than -EREMOTEIO. The RPC client's
finite state machine doesn't know what to do with -EREMOTEIO.

Additional clean ups:
- Don't double-count RDMA_ERROR replies
- Remove a stale comment

Clean up: Sometimes creating a fresh rpcrdma_ep can fail. That's why
xprt_rdma_connect() always checks if the r_xprt->rx_ep pointer is

simply check rpcrdma_xprt_connect()'s return value.

Also, there's no need to set re_connect_status to zero just after
the rpcrdma_ep is created, since it is allocated with kzalloc.

2acc5cae29 xprtrdma: Prevent dereferencing r_xprt->rx_ep after it is freed
r_xprt->rx_ep is known to be good while the transport's send lock is
held.  Otherwise additional references on rx_ep must be held when it
is used outside of that lock's critical sections.

For now, bump the rx_ep reference count once whenever there is at
least one outstanding Receive WR. This avoids the memory bandwidth
overhead of taking and releasing the reference count for every
ib_post_recv() and Receive completion.

53bc19f17f SUNRPC: receive buffer size estimation values almost never change
Avoid unnecessary cache sloshing by placing the buffer size
estimation update logic behind an atomic bit flag.

The size of GSS information included in each wrapped Reply does
not change during the lifetime of a GSS context. Therefore, the
au_rslack and au_ralign fields need to be updated only once after
establishing a fresh GSS credential.

Thus a slack size update must occur after a cred is created,
duplicated, renewed, or expires. I'm not sure I have this exactly
right. A trace point is introduced to track updates to these
variables to enable troubleshooting the problem if I missed a spot.

ea740bd5f5 svcrdma: Fix backchannel return code
Way back when I was writing the RPC/RDMA server-side backchannel
code, I misread the TCP backchannel reply handler logic. When
svc_tcp_recvfrom() successfully receives a backchannel reply, it
does not return -EAGAIN. It sets XPT_DATA and returns zero.

Update svc_rdma_recvfrom() to return zero. Here, XPT_DATA doesn't
need to be set again: it is set whenever a new message is received,
behind a spin lock in a single threaded context.

Also, if handling the cb reply is not successful, the message is
simply dropped. There's no special message framing to deal with as
there is in the TCP case.

Now that the handle_bc_reply() return value is ignored, I've removed
the dprintk call sites in the error exit of handle_bc_reply() in
favor of trace points in other areas that already report the error
cases.

ca4faf543a SUNRPC: Move xpt_mutex into socket xpo_sendto methods
It appears that the RPC/RDMA transport does not need serialization
of calls to its xpo_sendto method. Move the mutex into the socket
methods that still need that serialization.

Tail latencies are unambiguously better with this patch applied.
fio randrw 8KB 70/30 on NFSv3, smaller numbers are better:

With xpt_mutex:

w    | 99.99th=[ 9634]

Without xpt_mutex:

Serializing the construction of RPC/RDMA transport headers is not
really necessary at this point, because the Linux NFS server
implementation never changes its credit grant on a connection. If
that should change, then svc_rdma_sendto will need to serialize
access to the transport's credit grant fields.

32927393dc sysctl: pass kernel pointers to ->proc_handler
Instead of having all the sysctl handlers deal with user pointers, which
is rather hairy in terms of the BPF interaction, copy the input to and
from  userspace in common code.  This also means that the strings are
always NUL-terminated by the common code, making the API a little bit
safer.

As most handler just pass through the data to one of the common handlers
a lot of the changes are mechnical.

bdb2ce8281 xprtrdma: Fix trace point use-after-free race
It's not safe to use resources pointed to by the @send_wr of
ib_post_send() _after_ that function returns. Those resources are
typically freed by the Send completion handler, which can run before
ib_post_send() returns.

Thus the trace points currently around ib_post_send() in the
client's RPC/RDMA transport are a hazard, even when they are
disabled. Rearrange them so that they touch the Work Request only
_before_ ib_post_send() is invoked.

23cf1ee1f1 svcrdma: Fix leak of svc_rdma_recv_ctxt objects
Utilize the xpo_release_rqst transport method to ensure that each
rqstp's svc_rdma_recv_ctxt object is released even when the server
cannot return a Reply for that rqstp.

Without this fix, each RPC whose Reply cannot be sent leaks one
svc_rdma_recv_ctxt. This is a 2.5KB structure, a 4KB DMA-mapped
Receive buffer, and any pages that might be part of the Reply
message.

The leak is infrequent unless the network fabric is unreliable or
Kerberos is in use, as GSS sequence window overruns, which result
in connection loss, are more common on fast transports.

It's absolutely not safe to use resources pointed to by the @send_wr
argument of ib_post_send() _after_ that function returns. Those
resources are typically freed by the Send completion handler, which
can run before ib_post_send() returns.

Thus the trace points currently around ib_post_send() in the
server's RPC/RDMA transport are a hazard, even when they are
disabled. Rearrange them so that they touch the Work Request only
_before_ ib_post_send() is invoked.

6221f1d9b6 SUNRPC: Fix backchannel RPC soft lockups
Currently, after the forward channel connection goes away,
backchannel operations are causing soft lockups on the server
because call_transmit_status's SOFTCONN logic ignores ENOTCONN.
Such backchannel Calls are aggressively retried until the client
reconnects.

Backchannel Calls should use RPC_TASK_NOCONNECT rather than
RPC_TASK_SOFTCONN. If there is no forward connection, the server is
not capable of establishing a connection back to the client, thus
that backchannel request should fail before the server attempts to
send it. Commit 58255a4e3c ("NFSD: NFSv4 callback client should
use RPC_TASK_SOFTCONN") was merged several years before
RPC_TASK_NOCONNECT was available.

Because setup_callback_client() explicitly sets NOPING, the NFSv4.0
callback connection depends on the first callback RPC to initiate
a connection to the client. Thus NFSv4.0 needs to continue to use
RPC_TASK_SOFTCONN.

e28ce90083 xprtrdma: kmalloc rpcrdma_ep separate from rpcrdma_xprt
Change the rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect() function so that it no longer
waits for the DISCONNECTED event.  This prevents blocking if the
remote is unresponsive.

In rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect(), the transport's rpcrdma_ep is
detached. Upon return from rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect(), the transport
(r_xprt) is ready immediately for a new connection.

The RDMA_CM_DEVICE_REMOVAL and RDMA_CM_DISCONNECTED events are now
handled almost identically.

However, because the lifetimes of rpcrdma_xprt structures and
rpcrdma_ep structures are now independent, creating an rpcrdma_ep
needs to take a module ref count. The ep now owns most of the
hardware resources for a transport.

Also, a kref is needed to ensure that rpcrdma_ep sticks around
long enough for the cm_event_handler to finish.

93aa8e0a9d xprtrdma: Merge struct rpcrdma_ia into struct rpcrdma_ep
I eventually want to allocate rpcrdma_ep separately from struct
rpcrdma_xprt so that on occasion there can be more than one ep per
xprt.

The new struct rpcrdma_ep will contain all the fields currently in
rpcrdma_ia and in rpcrdma_ep. This is all the device and CM settings
for the connection, in addition to per-connection settings
negotiated with the remote.

Take this opportunity to rename the existing ep fields from rep_* to
re_* to disambiguate these from struct rpcrdma_rep.

Completion errors after a disconnect often occur much sooner than a
CM_DISCONNECT event. Use this to try to detect connection loss more
quickly.

Note that other kernel ULPs do take care to disconnect explicitly

81fe0c57f4 xprtrdma: Invoke rpcrdma_ia_open in the connect worker
Move rdma_cm_id creation into rpcrdma_ep_create() so that it is now
responsible for allocating all per-connection hardware resources.

With this clean-up, all three arms of the switch statement in
rpcrdma_ep_connect are exactly the same now, thus the switch can be
removed.

Because device removal behaves a little differently than
disconnection, there is a little more work to be done before
rpcrdma_ep_destroy() can release the connection's rdma_cm_id. So
it is not quite symmetrical with rpcrdma_ep_create() yet.

9ba373ee24 xprtrdma: Allocate Protection Domain in rpcrdma_ep_create()
Make a Protection Domain (PD) a per-connection resource rather than
a per-transport resource. In other words, when the connection
terminates, the PD is destroyed.

Thus there is one less HW resource that remains allocated to a
transport after a connection is closed.

85cd8e2b78 xprtrdma: Invoke rpcrdma_ep_create() in the connect worker
Refactor rpcrdma_ep_create(), rpcrdma_ep_disconnect(), and
rpcrdma_ep_destroy().

rpcrdma_ep_create will be invoked at connect time instead of at
transport set-up time. It will be responsible for allocating per-
connection resources. In this patch it allocates the CQs and
creates a QP. More to come.

rpcrdma_ep_destroy() is the inverse functionality that is
invoked at disconnect time. It will be responsible for releasing
the CQs and QP.

These changes should be safe to do because both connect and
disconnect is guaranteed to be serialized by the transport send
lock.

This takes us another step closer to resolving the address and route
only at connect time so that connection failover to another device
will work correctly.

- Show the number of SG entries that were mapped. This helps debug
  DMA-related problems.
- Record the MR's resource ID instead of its memory address. This

0dabe948f2 svcrdma: Avoid DMA mapping small RPC Replies
On some platforms, DMA mapping part of a page is more costly than
copying bytes. Indeed, not involving the I/O MMU can help the
RPC/RDMA transport scale better for tiny I/Os across more RDMA
devices. This is because interaction with the I/O MMU is eliminated
for each of these small I/Os. Without the explicit unmapping, the
NIC no longer needs to do a costly internal TLB shoot down for
buffers that are just a handful of bytes.

Since pull-up is now a more a frequent operation, I've introduced a
trace point in the pull-up path. It can be used for debugging or
user-space tools that count pull-up frequency.

6fd5034db4 svcrdma: Refactor chunk list encoders
Same idea as the receive-side changes I did a while back: use
xdr_stream helpers rather than open-coding the XDR chunk list
encoders. This builds the Reply transport header from beginning to
end without backtracking.

As additional clean-ups, fill in documenting comments for the XDR
encoders and sprinkle some trace points in the new encoding
functions.

Because they actually trace posting on the Send Queue. Let's rename
them so that I can add trace points in the chunk list encoders that
actually do trace chunk list encoding events.

Pass the RPC Call's svc_rdma_recv_ctxt deeper into the sendto()
path. This enables passing more information about Requester-

2fe8c44633 svcrdma: De-duplicate code that locates Write and Reply chunks
Cache the locations of the Requester-provided Write list and Reply
chunk so that the Send path doesn't need to parse the Call header
again.
