Both spi and spi-mem cores already take care of checking the minimum and
maximum speed for transfers depending on the controller
capabilities. There is no reason to repeat this check in controller
drivers.
Once this possible error condition removed from the function, it makes
no longer sense to return an int.

Every ->exec_op() call correctly configures the spi bus speed to the
maximum allowed frequency for the memory using the constant spi default
parameter. Since we can now have per-operation constraints, let's use
the value that comes from the spi-mem operation structure instead. In
case there is no specific limitation for this operation, the default spi
device value will be given anyway.
This controller however performed a frequency check, which is also
observed during the ->check_op() phase.
The per-operation frequency capability is thus advertised to the spi-mem
core.

There are spi devices with multiple frequency limitations depending on
the invoked command. We probably do not want to afford running at the
lowest supported frequency all the time, so if we want to get the most
of our hardware, we need to allow per-operation frequency limitations.
Among all the SPI memory controllers, I believe all are capable of
changing the spi frequency on the fly. Some of the drivers do not make
any frequency setup though. And some others will derive a per chip
prescaler value which will be used forever.
Actually changing the frequency on the fly is something new in Linux, so
we need to carefully flag the drivers which do and do not support it. A
controller capability is created for that, and the presence for this
capability will always be checked before accepting such pattern.

In the spi subsystem, the bus frequency is derived as follows:
- the controller may expose a minimum and maximum operating frequency
- the hardware description, through the spi peripheral properties,
advise what is the maximum acceptable frequency from a device/wiring
point of view.
Transfers must be observed at a frequency which fits both (so in
practice, the lowest maximum).
Actually, this second point mixes two information and already takes the
lowest frequency among:
- what the spi device is capable of (what is written in the component
datasheet)
- what the wiring allows (electromagnetic sensibility, crossovers,
terminations, antenna effect, etc).
This logic works until spi devices are no longer capable of sustaining
their highest frequency regardless of the operation. Spi memories are
typically subject to such variation. Some devices are capable of
spitting their internally stored data (essentially in read mode) at a
very fast rate, typically up to 166MHz on Winbond SPI-NAND chips, using
"fast" commands. However, some of the low-end operations, such as
regular page read-from-cache commands, are more limited and can only be
executed at 54MHz at most. This is currently a problem in the SPI-NAND
subsystem. Another situation, even if not yet supported, will be with
DTR commands, when the data is latched on both edges of the clock. The
same chips as mentioned previously are in this case limited to
80MHz. Yet another example might be continuous reads, which, under
certain circumstances, can also run at most at 104 or 120MHz.
As a matter of fact, the "one frequency per chip" policy is outdated and
more fine grain configuration is needed: we need to allow per-operation
frequency limitations. So far, all datasheets I encountered advertise a
maximum default frequency, which need to be lowered for certain specific
operations. So based on the current infrastructure, we can still expect
firmware (device trees in general) to continued advertising the same
maximum speed which is a mix between the PCB limitations and the chip
maximum capability, and expect per-operation lower frequencies when this
is relevant.
Add a `struct spi_mem_op` member to carry this information. Not
providing this field explicitly from upper layers means that there is no
further constraint and the default spi device maximum speed will be
carried instead. The SPI_MEM_OP() macro is also expanded with an
optional frequency argument, because virtually all operations can be
subject to such a limitation, and this will allow for a smooth and
discrete transition.
For controller drivers which do not implement the spi-mem interface, the
per-transfer speed is also set acordingly to a lower (than the maximum
default) speed when relevant.

kthread_create() creates a kthread without running it yet. kthread_run()
creates a kthread and runs it.
On the other hand, kthread_create_worker() creates a kthread worker and
runs it.
This difference in behaviours is confusing. Also there is no way to
create a kthread worker and affine it using kthread_bind_mask() or
kthread_affine_preferred() before starting it.
Consolidate the behaviours and introduce kthread_run_worker[_on_cpu]()
that behaves just like kthread_run(). kthread_create_worker[_on_cpu]()

The QSPI peripheral control and status registers are
accessible via the SoC's APB bus, whereas MMIO transactions'
data travels on the AHB bus.
Microchip documentation and even sample code from Atmel
emphasises the need for a memory barrier before the first
MMIO transaction to the AHB-connected QSPI, and before the
last write to its registers via APB. This is achieved by
the following lines in `atmel_qspi_transfer()`:
/* Dummy read of QSPI_IFR to synchronize APB and AHB accesses */
(void)atmel_qspi_read(aq, QSPI_IFR);
However, the current documentation makes no mention to
synchronization requirements in the other direction, i.e.
after the last data written via AHB, and before the first
register access on APB.
In our case, we were facing an issue where the QSPI peripheral
would cease to send any new CSR (nCS Rise) interrupts,
leading to a timeout in `atmel_qspi_wait_for_completion()`
and ultimately this panic in higher levels:
ubi0 error: ubi_io_write: error -110 while writing 63108 bytes
to PEB 491:128, written 63104 bytes
After months of extensive research of the codebase, fiddling
around the debugger with kgdb, and back-and-forth with
Microchip, we came to the conclusion that the issue is
probably that the peripheral is still busy receiving on AHB
when the LASTXFER bit is written to its Control Register
on APB, therefore this write gets lost, and the peripheral
still thinks there is more data to come in the MMIO transfer.
This was first formulated when we noticed that doubling the
write() of QSPI_CR_LASTXFER seemed to solve the problem.
Ultimately, the solution is to introduce memory barriers
after the AHB-mapped MMIO transfers, to ensure ordering.

The sama7g5 QSPI controller uses dedicated clocks for the
QSPI Controller Interface and the QSPI Controller Core, and
requires synchronization before accessing registers or bit
fields.
QSPI_SR.SYNCBSY must be zero before accessing any of the bits:
QSPI_CR.QSPIEN, QSPI_CR.QSPIDIS, QSPI_CR.SRFRSH, QSPI_CR.SWRST,
QSPI_CR.UPDCFG, QSPI_CR.STTFR, QSPI_CR.RTOUT, QSPI_CR.LASTXFER.
Also, the QSPI controller core configuration can be updated by
writing the QSPI_CR.UPDCFG bit to ‘1’. This is needed by the
following registers: QSPI_MR, QSPI_SCR, QSPI_IAR, QSPI_WICR,
QSPI_IFR, QSPI_RICR, QSPI_SMR, QSPI_SKR,QSPI_REFRESH, QSPI_WRACNT
QSPI_PCALCFG.
The Octal SPI supports frequencies up to 200 MHZ DDR. The need
for output impedance calibration arises. To avoid the degradation
of the signal quality, a PAD calibration cell is used to adjust
the output impedance to the driven I/Os.
The transmission flow requires different sequences for setting
the configuration and for the actual transfer, than what is in
the sama5d2 and sam9x60 versions of the IP. Different interrupts
are handled. aq->ops->set_cfg() and aq->ops->transfer() are
introduced to help differentiating the flows.

`atmel_qspi_reg_name()` is used for pretty-printing register offsets
for verbose logging of register accesses. However, due to a typo
(likely a copy-paste error), QSPI_RD's offset prints as "MR", the
name of the previous register. Fix this typo.

SPI-NAND changes:
A load of fixes to Winbond manufacturer driver have been done, plus a
structure constification.
Raw NAND changes:
The GPMI driver has been improved on the power management side.
The Davinci driver has been cleaned up.
A leak in the Atmel driver plus some typos in the core have been fixed.
SPI NOR changes:
Introduce byte swap support for 8D-8D-8D mode and a user for it:
macronix. SPI NOR flashes may swap the bytes on a 16-bit boundary when
configured in Octal DTR mode. For such cases the byte order is
propagated through SPI MEM to the SPI controllers so that the
controllers swap the bytes back at runtime. This avoids breaking the
boot sequence because of the endianness problems that appear when the
bootloaders use 1-1-1 and the kernel uses 8D-8D-8D with byte swap
support. Along with the SPI MEM byte swap support we queue a patch for
the SPI MXIC controller that swaps the bytes back at runtime.

The words delay is computed by multiplying two unsigned ints
and by adding up the result to a u64 variable.
The multiplication, however, is performed with 32bit math
thus losing data when the actual result is larger than UINT32_MAX.
Fix the operation by casting the first operand to u64, thus forcing
the multiplication to be performed with 64bit math.

Merge series from Jonas Rebmann <jre@pengutronix.de>:
The i.MX SPI controller supports inserting a configurable delay between
subsequent words, which is needed for some slower devices that couldn't
keep up otherwise.
This patch series introduces support for the word delay parameters for
i.MX51 onwards.
The SPI clock (CSRC=0) was chosen as the clock source over the also
available 32.768 KHz Low-Frequency Reference Clock (CSRC=1). The sample
period control bits (SAMPLE_PERIOD) are set to the selected word delay
converted to SPI clock cycles. A deviation from the requested number of
wait cycles and the actual word delay was observed via both software
timings and oscilloscope measurements and accounted for.
The Chip Select Delay Control bits in the Sample Period Control Register
remain zero.
Behaviour on i.MX35 and earlier, where the CSPI interface is used,
remains unchanged.
Implement support for the word delay feature of i.MX51 (and onwards) via
the ECSPI interface.
Convert the requested delay to SPI cycles and account for an extra
inter-word delay inserted by the controller in addition to the requested
number of cycles, which was observed when testing this patch.
Disable dynamic burst when word delay is set. As the configurable delay
period in the controller is inserted after bursts, the burst length must
equal the word length.
Account for word delay in the transfer time estimation for
polling_limit_us.

This SPI controller is present in Apple SoCs such as the M1 (t8103) and
M1 Pro/Max (t600x). It is a relatively straightforward design with two
16-entry FIFOs, arbitrary transfer sizes (up to 2**32 - 1) and fully
configurable word size up to 32 bits. It supports one hardware CS line
which can also be driven via the pinctrl/GPIO driver instead, if
desired. TX and RX can be independently enabled.
There are a surprising number of knobs for tweaking details of the
transfer, most of which we do not use right now. Hardware CS control
is available, but we haven't found a way to make it stay low across
multiple logical transfers, so we just use software CS control for now.
There is also a shared DMA offload coprocessor that can be used to handle
larger transfers without requiring an IRQ every 8-16 words, but that
feature depends on a bunch of scaffolding that isn't ready to be
upstreamed yet, so leave it for later.
The hardware shares some register bit definitions with spi-s3c24xx which
suggests it has a shared legacy with Samsung SoCs, but it is too
different to warrant sharing a driver.

Fix casting warnings and other cleanups:

- Use iowrite32be instead of writel
Merge series from Dragan Simic <dsimic@manjaro.org>:
This is a small series that introduces dev_warn_probe() function, which
produces warnings on failed resource acquisitions, and improves error
handling in the probe paths of Rockchip SPI drivers, by using functions
dev_err_probe() and dev_warn_probe() properly in multiple places.
This series also performs a bunch of small, rather trivial code cleanups,
to make the code neater and a bit easier to read.
The manufacturing access to the PCH/SoC SPI device is traditionally
performed via userspace driver accessing registers via /dev/mem but due
to security concerns /dev/mem access is being much restricted, hence the
reason for utilizing dedicated Intel PCH/SoC SPI controller driver,
which is already implemented in the Linux kernel.
Intel PCH/SoC SPI controller protects the flash storage via two
mechanisms one is the via region protection registers and second via
BIOS lock. The BIOS locks only the BIOS regions usually 0 and/or 6.
The device always boots with BIOS lock set, but during manufacturing the
BIOS lock has to be lifted in order to enable the write access. This can
be done by passing "writeable=1" in the command line when the driver is
loaded. This "locked" state is exposed through new sysfs attributes
(intel_spi_locked, intel_spi_bios_locked).
Second, also the region protection status is exposed via sysfs attribute
(intel_spi_protected) as the manufacturing will need the both files in
order to validate that the device is properly sealed.

Use function dev_err_probe() in the probe path instead of dev_err() where
appropriate, to make the code a bit more uniform and compact. Use the new
function dev_warn_probe() to improve error handling for the TX and RX DMA
channel requests, which are actually optional, and tweak the logged warnings
a bit to additionally describe their optional nature.
Previously, deferred requests for the TX and RX DMA channels produced no
debug messages, and the final error messages didn't include the error codes,
which are all highly useful when debugging permanently failed DMA channel
requests, such as when the required drivers aren't enabled.

Some SPI-NOR flash swap the bytes on a 16-bit boundary when
configured in Octal DTR mode. It means data format D0 D1 D2 D3
would be swapped to D1 D0 D3 D2. So that whether controller
support swapping bytes should be checked before enable Octal
DTR mode. Add swap byte support on a 16-bit boundary when
configured in Octal DTR mode for Macronix xSPI host controller
driver.
According dtr_swab in operation to enable/disable Macronix
xSPI host controller swap byte feature.
To make sure swap byte feature is working well, program data in
1S-1S-1S mode then read back and compare read data in 8D-8D-8D
mode.
This feature have been validated on byte-swap flash and
non-byte-swap flash.
Macronix xSPI host controller bit "HC_CFG_DATA_PASS" determine
the byte swap feature disabled/enabled and swap byte feature is
working on 8D-8D-8D mode only.

There are NOR flashes (Macronix) that swap the bytes on a 16-bit
boundary when configured in Octal DTR mode. The byte order of
16-bit words is swapped when read or written in Octal Double
Transfer Rate (DTR) mode compared to Single Transfer Rate (STR)
modes. If one writes D0 D1 D2 D3 bytes using 1-1-1 mode, and uses
8D-8D-8D SPI mode for reading, it will read back D1 D0 D3 D2.
Swapping the bytes may introduce some endianness problems. It can
affect the boot sequence if the entire boot sequence is not handled
in either 8D-8D-8D mode or 1-1-1 mode. Therefore, it is necessary
to swap the bytes back to ensure the same byte order as in STR modes.
Fortunately there are controllers that could swap the bytes back at
runtime, addressing the flash's endianness requirements. Provide a
way for the upper layers to specify the byte order in Octal DTR mode.
Merge Tudor's patch and add modifications for suiting newer version
of Linux kernel.

platform drivers.
Convert all platform drivers below drivers/spi to use .remove(), with
the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.
The change for the spi-npcm-fiu stands out in the diffstat because the
inconsistent formatting style of the platform_driver initializer is
fixed to match the other struct initializer in the file.

SPI index mode has hardware limitation of reading only 64 bytes per
transaction due to fixed number of FIFO registers. This constraint leads
to performance issues when reading data from NAND/NOR flash devices, as the
controller must issue multiple requests to read 64-byte chunks, even if the
slave can send up to 2 or 4 KB in single transaction. The AMD HID2 SPI
controller supports DMA mode, which allows reading up to 4 KB of data in
single transaction. This patch introduces changes to implement HID2 DMA
read support for the HID2 SPI controller.

Previously the MR and SCR registers were just set with the supposedly
required values, from cached register values (cached reg content
initialized to zero).
All parts fixed here did not consider the current register (cache)
content, which would make future support of cs_setup, cs_hold, and
cs_inactive impossible.
Setting SCBR in atmel_qspi_setup() erases a possible DLYBS setting from
atmel_qspi_set_cs_timing(). The DLYBS setting is applied by ORing over
the current setting, without resetting the bits first. All writes to MR
did not consider possible settings of DLYCS and DLYBCT.

SPI_NFI_READ_FROM_CACHE_DONE bit must be written at the end of
dirmap_read operation even if it is already set.
In the same way, SPI_NFI_LOAD_TO_CACHE_DONE bit must be written at the
end of dirmap_write operation even if it is already set.
For this reason use regmap_write_bits() instead of regmap_set_bits().
This patch fixes mtd_pagetest kernel module test.

This is quite a quiet release for sPI. The one new core feature here is
support for configuring the state of the MOSI pin when the bus is idle,
there are some devices which are very fragile in this regard even when
the chip select signal is not asserted. Otherwise we have some new
driver support, a bunch of small fixes and some general cleanup work.
- Support for configuring the state of the MOSI pin when the the bus is
idle.
- Add the Elgin JG0309-01 in spidev.
- Support for Marvell xSPI, Mediatek MTK7981, Microchip PIC64GX,
NXP i.MX8ULP, and Rockchip RK3576 controllers.
I also accidentally pulled in an IIO DT bindings update due to a typo
when applying the MOSI idle state patches.

Use devm_pm_runtime_enable(), devm_request_irq() and
devm_spi_register_controller() to simplify code.
And also register a callback spi_geni_release_dma_chan() with
devm_add_action_or_reset(), to release dma channel in both error
and device detach path, which can make sure the release sequence is
consistent with the original one.
1. Unregister spi controller.
2. Free the IRQ.
3. Free DMA chans
4. Disable runtime PM.
So the remove function can also be removed.

Replace SET_RUNTIME_PM_OPS()/SET SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS() with their modern
RUNTIME_PM_OPS() and SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS() alternatives.
The combined usage of pm_ptr() and RUNTIME_PM_OPS/SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS()
allows the compiler to evaluate if the runtime suspend/resume() functions
are used at build time or are simply dead code.
This allows removing the __maybe_unused annotations from the
suspend/resume() functions.

Commit e882575efc ("spi: rockchip: Suspend and resume the bus during
NOIRQ_SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM ops") stopped respecting runtime PM status and
simply disabled clocks unconditionally when suspending the system. This
causes problems when the device is already runtime suspended when we go
to sleep -- in which case we double-disable clocks and produce a
WARNing.
Switch back to pm_runtime_force_{suspend,resume}(), because that still
seems like the right thing to do, and the aforementioned commit makes no
explanation why it stopped using it.
Also, refactor some of the resume() error handling, because it's not
actually a good idea to re-disable clocks on failure.

The effective SPI clock frequency should never exceed speed_hz
otherwise this might result in undefined behavior of the SPI device.
Currently the scldiv calculation could violate this constraint.
For the example parameters perclk_rate = 24 MHz and speed_hz = 7 MHz,
the function fsl_lpspi_set_bitrate will determine perscale = 0 and
scldiv = 1, which is a effective SPI clock of 8 MHz.

Some SPI peripherals may require strict MOSI line state when the controller
is not clocking out data. Implement support for MOSI idle state
configuration (low or high) by setting the data output line level on
controller setup and after transfers. Bitbang operations now call
controller specific set_mosi_idle() callback to set MOSI to its idle state.
The MOSI line is kept at its idle state if no tx buffer is provided.

The behavior of an SPI controller data output line (SDO or MOSI or COPI
(Controller Output Peripheral Input) for disambiguation) is usually not
specified when the controller is not clocking out data on SCLK edges.
However, there do exist SPI peripherals that require specific MOSI line
state when data is not being clocked out of the controller.
Conventional SPI controllers may set the MOSI line on SCLK edges then bring
it low when no data is going out or leave the line the state of the last
transfer bit. More elaborated controllers are capable to set the MOSI idle
state according to different configurable levels and thus are more suitable
for interfacing with demanding peripherals.
Add SPI mode bits to allow peripherals to request explicit MOSI idle state
when needed.
When supporting a particular MOSI idle configuration, the data output line
state is expected to remain at the configured level when the controller is
not clocking out data. When a device that needs a specific MOSI idle state
is identified, its driver should request the MOSI idle configuration by
setting the proper SPI mode bit.

Marvell Xfer overlay extends xSPI capabilities to support non-memory SPI
operations. The Marvell overlay, combined with a generic command, allows
for full-duplex SPI transactions. It also enables transactions with
undetermined lengths using the cs_hold parameter and the ability to
extend CS signal assertion, even if the xSPI block requests CS signal
de-assertion.
Marvell overlay is using part of xSPI for writing data into device, and
additional hardware block to read data from the device. To do that xSPI
will trigger 1 byte generic command followed by data sequence. In same
time overlay block will monitor MISO pin to read data from the device.
Due to that SDMA data start will be shifted by 1 byte.

Here is the big set of driver core changes for 6.11-rc1.
Lots of stuff in here, with not a huge diffstat, but apis are evolving
which required lots of files to be touched. Highlights of the changes
in here are:
- platform remove callback api final fixups (Uwe took many releases to
get here, finally!)
- Rust bindings for basic firmware apis and initial driver-core
interactions. It's not all that useful for a "write a whole driver
in rust" type of thing, but the firmware bindings do help out the
phy rust drivers, and the driver core bindings give a solid base on
which others can start their work. There is still a long way to go
here before we have a multitude of rust drivers being added, but
it's a great first step.
- driver core const api changes. This reached across all bus types,
and there are some fix-ups for some not-common bus types that
linux-next and 0-day testing shook out. This work is being done to
help make the rust bindings more safe, as well as the C code, moving
toward the end-goal of allowing us to put driver structures into
read-only memory. We aren't there yet, but are getting closer.
- minor devres cleanups and fixes found by code inspection
- arch_topology minor changes
- other minor driver core cleanups
All of these have been in linux-next for a very long time with no
reported problems.

When Maxime originally added the BH2228FV to the spidev driver, he spelt
it incorrectly - the d should have been a b. Add the correctly spelt

the incorrect spelt compatible, so keep it in the driver to avoid
breaking the few real users it has.

There's some quite exciting core work in this release, we've got the
beginnings of support for hardware initiated transfers which is itself
independently useful for optimising fast paths in existing drivers.
We also have a rework of the DMA mapping which allows finer grained
decisions about DMA mapping messages and also helps remove some bodges
that we'd had.
Otherwise it's a fairly quiet release, a few new drivers and features
for existing drivers, together with various cleanups and DT binding
conversions.
One regmap SPI fix made it's way in here too which I should probably
have sent as a regmap fix instead.
- Support for pre-optimising messages, reducing the overhead for
messages that are repeatedly used (eg, reading the interrupt status
from a device). This will also be used for hardware initiated
transfers in future.
- A reworking of how DMA mapping is done, introducing a new helper and
allowing the DMA mapping decision to be done per transfer instead of
per message.
- Support for Atmel SAMA7D64, Freescale LX2160A DSPI and WCH CH341A.

While transmitting with rx_len == 0, the RX FIFO is not going to be
emptied in the interrupt handler. A subsequent transfer could then
read crap from the previous transfer out of the RX FIFO into the
start RX buffer. The core provides a register that will empty the RX and
TX FIFOs, so do that before each transfer.

Setting up many of the registers for a new SPI transfer involves
unconditionally disabling the SPI controller, writing the register
value and re-enabling the controller. This is being done for registers
even when the value is unchanged and is also done for registers that
don't require the controller to be disabled for the change to take
effect. Make an effort to detect changes to the register values, and
only disables the controller if the new register value is different
and disabling the controller is required. This stops the controller
being repeated disabled and the bus going tristate before every
transfer.

Setting up many of the registers for a new SPI transfer requires the
SPI controller to be disabled after set_cs() has been called to assert
the chip select line. However, disabling the controller results in the
SCLK and MOSI output pins being tristate, which can cause clock
transitions to be seen by a slave device whilst SS is active. To fix
this, the CS is only set to inactive inline, whilst setting it active
is deferred until all registers are set up and the any controller
disables have been completed.

It is possible for the TXDONE interrupt be raised if the tx FIFO becomes
temporarily empty while transmitting, resulting in recursive calls to
mchp_corespi_write_fifo() and therefore a garbage message might be
transmitted depending on when the interrupt is triggered. Moving all of
the tx FIFO writes out of the TXDONE portion of the interrupt handler
avoids this problem.
Most of rest of the TXDONE portion of the handler is problematic too.
Only reading the rx FIFO (and finalising the transfer) when the TXDONE
interrupt is raised can cause the transfer to stall, if the final bytes
of rx data are not available in the rx FIFO when the final TXDONE
interrupt is raised. The transfer should be finalised regardless of
which interrupt is raised, provided that all tx data has been set and
all rx data received.
The first issue was encountered "in the wild", the second is
theoretical.

underlying controller.

Adding spi_optimize_message() broke the spi-mux driver because it
calls spi_async() from it's transfer_one_message() callback. This
resulted in passing an incorrectly optimized message to the controller.
For example, if the underlying controller has an optimize_message()
callback, this would have not been called and can cause a crash when
the underlying controller driver tries to transfer the message.
Also, since the spi-mux driver swaps out the controller pointer by
replacing msg->spi, __spi_unoptimize_message() was being called with a
different controller than the one used in __spi_optimize_message(). This
could cause a crash when attempting to free the message resources when
__spi_unoptimize_message() is called in spi_finalize_current_message()
since it is being called with a controller that did not allocate the
resources.
This is fixed by adding a defer_optimize_message flag for controllers.
This flag causes all of the spi_[maybe_][un]optimize_message() calls to
be a no-op (other than attaching a pointer to the spi device to the
message).
This allows the spi-mux driver to pass an unmodified message to
spi_async() in spi_mux_transfer_one_message() after the spi device has
been swapped out. This causes __spi_optimize_message() and
__spi_unoptimize_message() to be called only once per message and with
the correct/same controller in each case.

Calling spi_maybe_unoptimize_message() in spi_async() is wrong because
the message is likely to be in the queue and not transferred yet. This
can corrupt the message while it is being used by the controller driver.
spi_maybe_unoptimize_message() is already called in the correct place
in spi_finalize_current_message() to balance the call to
spi_maybe_optimize_message() in spi_async().

In the match() callback, the struct device_driver * should not be
changed, so change the function callback to be a const *. This is one
step of many towards making the driver core safe to have struct
device_driver in read-only memory.
Because the match() callback is in all busses, all busses are modified
to handle this properly. This does entail switching some container_of()
calls to container_of_const() to properly handle the constant *.
For some busses, like PCI and USB and HV, the const * is cast away in
the match callback as those busses do want to modify those structures at
this point in time (they have a local lock in the driver structure.)
That will have to be changed in the future if they wish to have their
struct device * in read-only-memory.

On the OMAPL138, the SPI reference clock is provided by the Power and
Sleep Controller (PSC). The PSC's datasheet says that 'some peripherals
have special programming requirements and additional recommended steps
you must take before you can invoke the PSC module state transition'. I
didn't find more details in documentation but it appears that PSC needs
the SPI to clear the POWERDOWN bit before disabling the clock. Indeed,
when this bit is set, the PSC gets stuck in transitions from enable to
disable state.

The patch 15a6af94a2 ("spi: Increase imx51 ecspi burst length based

mx51_ecspi_prepare_transfer() to be based on the transfer length.
This breaks HW CS + SPI_CS_WORD support which was added in

with bits-per-word != 8, 16, 32.
SPI_CS_WORD means the CS should be toggled after each word. The
implementation in the imx-spi driver relies on the fact that the HW CS
is toggled automatically by the controller after each burst length
number of bits. Setting the burst length to the number of bits of the
_whole_ message breaks this use case.

length based on transfer length") claims to optimize the transfers.
But even without this patch, on modern spi-imx controllers with
"dynamic_burst = true" (imx51, imx6 and newer), the transfers are
already optimized, i.e. the burst length is dynamically adjusted in
spi_imx_push() to avoid the pause between the SPI bursts. This has
been confirmed by a scope measurement on an imx6d.
Subsequent Patches tried to fix these and other problems:
- 5f66db08cb ("spi: imx: Take in account bits per word instead of assuming 8-bits")
- e9b220aeac ("spi: spi-imx: correctly configure burst length when using dma")
- c712c05e46 ("spi: imx: fix the burst length at DMA mode and CPU mode")
- cf6d79a0f5 ("spi: spi-imx: fix off-by-one in mx51 CPU mode burst length")
but the HW CS + SPI_CS_WORD use case is still broken.
To fix the problems revert the burst size calculation in
mx51_ecspi_prepare_transfer() back to the original form, before
15a6af94a2 ("spi: Increase imx51 ecspi burst length based on
transfer length") was applied.

When spi-cadence is configured as a slave, it requires the SPI refclk to
detect the synchronization start condition while communicating with the
master. However, the spi-cadence driver never enables the SPI refclk in
slave mode, causing the refclk to remain disabled if the
"clk_ignore_unused" kernel parameter is not passed through bootargs.
As a result, the slave cannot detect data sent by the master, leading to
communication failure. Update driver to enable the SPI refclk in both
master and slave configurations.

While adding a SPI device, the SPI core ensures that multiple logical CS
doesn't map to the same physical CS. For example, spi->chip_select[0] !=
spi->chip_select[1] and so forth. However, unlike the SPI master, the SPI
slave doesn't have the list of chip selects, this leads to probe failure
when the SPI controller is configured as slave. Update the
__spi_add_device() function to perform this check only if the SPI
controller is configured as master.

Merge series from Andy Shevchenko <andriy.shevchenko@linux.intel.com>:
The first part of the series (patches 1 to 7) is an introduction
of a new helper followed by the user conversion.
This consolidates the same code and also makes patch 8 (last one)
be localised to the SPI core part.
The last patch is the main rework to get rid of a recently introduced
hack with a dummy SG list and move to the transfer-based DMA mapped
flag.
That said, the patches 1 to 7 may be applied right away since they
have no functional change intended, while the last one needs more
testing and reviewing.

The granularity of DMA mappings is transfer and moreover,
the direction is also important as it can be unidirect.
The current cur_msg_mapped flag doesn't fit well the DMA mapping
and syncing calls and we have tons of checks around on top of it.
So, instead of doing that rework the code to use per transfer per
direction flag to show if it's DMA mapped or not.

We need these to get the i.MX8 boards working in CI again.
The dev_warn to notify about a spurious interrupt was introduced with
the reasoning that these are unexpected. However spurious interrupts
tend to trigger continously and the error message on the serial console
prevents that the core's detection of spurious interrupts kicks in
(which disables the irq) and just floods the console.

Commit 8cc3bad9d9 ("spi: Remove unneded check for orig_nents")
introduced a regression: unmapped data could now be passed to the DMA
APIs, resulting in null pointer dereferences. Commit 9f788ba457 ("spi:
Don't mark message DMA mapped when no transfer in it is") and commit
da560097c0 ("spi: Check if transfer is mapped before calling DMA sync
APIs") addressed the problem, but only partially. Unidirectional
transactions will still result in null pointer dereference. To prevent
that from happening, assign a dummy scatterlist when no data is mapped,
so that the DMA API can be called and not result in a null pointer
dereference.

During dummy-cycles xSPI will switch GPIO into Hi-Z mode. In that dummy
period voltage on data lines will slowly drop, what can cause
unintentional modebyte transmission. Value send to SPI memory chip will
depend on last address, and clock frequency.
To prevent unforeseen consequences of that behaviour, force send
single modebyte(0x00).
Modebyte will be send only if number of dummy-cycles is not equal
to 0. Code must also reduce dummycycle byte count by one - as one byte
is send as modebyte.

When the requested dirmap accesses are outside of the window, it is
probably more sensible to return -EINVAL rather than an "unsupported"

-EOPNOTSUP is likely going to be preferred as it is a standard error

Currently, the DesignWare SPI controller driver supports only host mode.
However, spi2 on the Kendryte K210 SoC supports only target mode,
triggering an error message on e.g. SiPEED MAiXBiT since commit
98d75b9ef2 ("spi: dw: Drop default number of CS setting"):
dw_spi_mmio 50240000.spi: error -22: problem registering spi host
dw_spi_mmio 50240000.spi: probe with driver dw_spi_mmio failed with error -22
As spi2 rightfully has no "num-cs" property, num_chipselect is now zero,
causing spi_alloc_host() to fail to register the controller. Before,
the driver silently registered an SPI host controller with 4 chip
selects.
Reject target mode early on and warn the user, getting rid of the
error message.

Merge series from Serge Semin <fancer.lancer@gmail.com>:
The main goal of the short series is to provide a procedure implementing
the auto-detection of the number of native Chip-Select signals supported
by the controller. The suggested algorithm is straightforward. It relies
on the fact that the SER register writable flags reflects the actual
number of available native chip-select signals. So the DW APB/AHB SSI
driver now tests the SER register for having the writable bits,
calculates the number of CS signals based on the number of set flags and
then initializes the num_cs private data field based on that, which then
will be passed to the SPI-core subsystem indicating the number of
supported hardware chip-selects. The implemented procedure will be useful
for the DW SSI device nodes not having the explicitly set "num-cs"
property. In case if the property is specified it will be utilized instead
of the auto-detection procedure.
Besides of that a small cleanup patch is introduced in the head of the
series. It converts the driver to using the BITS_TO_BYTES() macro instead
of the hard-coded DIV_ROUND_UP()-based calculation of the number of
bytes-per-transfer-word.
Now the struct chip_data is local to spi-pxa2xx.c, move
its definition to the C file. This will slightly speed up
a build and also hide badly named data type (too generic).

Aside with the FIFO depth and DFS field size it's possible to auto-detect
a number of native chip-select synthesized in the DW APB/AHB SSI IP-core.
It can be done just by writing ones to the SER register. The number of
writable flags in the register is limited by the SSI_NUM_SLAVES IP-core
synthesize parameter. All the upper flags are read-only and wired to zero.
Based on that let's add the number of native CS auto-detection procedure

On the STM32F4/7, the MOSI and CLK pins float while the controller is
disabled. CS is a regular GPIO, and therefore always driven. Currently,
the controller is enabled in the transfer_one() callback, which runs
after CS is asserted. Therefore, there is a period where the SPI pins
are floating while CS is asserted, making it possible for stray signals
to disrupt communications. An analogous problem occurs at the end of the
transfer when the controller is disabled before CS is released.
This problem can be reliably observed by enabling the pull-up (if
CPOL=0) or pull-down (if CPOL=1) on the clock pin. This will cause two
extra unintended clock edges per transfer, when the controller is
enabled and disabled.
Note that this bug is likely not present on the STM32H7, because this
driver sets the AFCNTR bit (not supported on F4/F7), which keeps the SPI
pins driven even while the controller is disabled.
Enabling/disabling the controller as part of runtime PM was suggested as
an alternative approach, but this breaks the driver on the STM32MP1 (see
[1]). The following quote from the manual may explain this:
> To restart the internal state machine properly, SPI is strongly
> suggested to be disabled and re-enabled before next transaction starts
> despite its setting is not changed.
This patch has been tested on an STM32F746 with a MAX14830 UART
expander.

There is a confusing pattern in the kernel to use a variable named 'timeout' to
store the result of wait_for_completion_timeout() causing patterns like:
timeout = wait_for_completion_timeout(...)
if (!timeout) return -ETIMEDOUT;
with all kinds of permutations. Use 'time_left' as a variable to make the code
self explaining.
Fix to the proper variable type 'unsigned long' while here.
