The bounds of idx are checked here

Current driver may lost tx interrupts under bidirectional test with iperf3,

This patch add a new dts property named "mediatek,rmii-rxc" parsing
in driver, which will configure MAC to select which pin the RMII reference
clock is connected to, TXC or RXC.
TXC pad is the default reference clock pin. If user wants to use RXC pad
instead, add "mediatek,rmii-rxc" to corresponding device node.

GCC 12 gets upset because in mtk_foe_entry_commit_subflow()
this driver allocates a partial structure. The writes are
within bounds.

Partially convert mtk_eth_soc to phylink_pcs, moving the configuration,
link up and AN restart over. However, it seems mac_pcs_get_state()
doesn't actually get the state from the PCS, so we can't convert that
over without a better understanding of the hardware.

Provide a mtk_pcs structure which encapsulates everything that the PCS
functions need (the regmap and ana_rgc3 offset), and use this in the
PCS functions. Provide shim functions to convert from the existing
"mtk_sgmii_*" interface to the converted PCS functions.

Add a fixme comment for the last remaining incorrect usage of
state->speed in the mac_config() method, which is strangely in a code
path which is only run when the PHY interface mode changes.
This means if we are in RGMII mode, changes in state->speed will not
cause the INTF_MODE, TRGMII_RCK_CTRL and TRGMII_TCK_CTRL registers to
be set according to the speed, nor will the TRGPLL clock be set to the
correct value.

Phylink does not guarantee that state->speed will be set correctly in
the mac_config() call, so it's a bug that the driver makes use of it.
Moreover, it is making use of it in a function that is only ever called
for 1000BASE-X and 2500BASE-X which operate at a fixed speed which
happens to be the same setting irrespective of the interface mode. We
can simply remove the switch statement and just set the SGMII interface
speed.

The PCS speed setting is a two bit field, but it is defined as two
separate bits. Add a bitfield mask for the speed definitions, an
use the FIELD_PREP() macro to define each PCS speed.

This will be used to implement a limited form of bridge offloading.
Since the hardware does not support flow table entries with just source
and destination MAC address, the driver has to emulate it.
The hardware automatically creates entries entries for incoming flows, even
when they are bridged instead of routed, and reports when packets for these
flows have reached the minimum PPS rate for offloading.
After this happens, we look up the L2 flow offload entry based on the MAC
header and fill in the output routing information in the flow table.
The dynamically created per-flow entries are automatically removed when
either the hardware flowtable entry expires, is replaced, or if the offload
rule they belong to is removed

The hardware was designed to handle flow detection and creation of flow entries
by itself, relying on the software primarily for filling in egress routing
information.
When there is a hash collision between multiple flows, this allows the hardware
to maintain the entry for the most active flow.
Additionally, the hardware only keeps offloading active for entries with at
least 30 packets per second.
With this rework, the code no longer creates a hardware entries directly.
Instead, the hardware entry is only created when the PPE reports a matching
unbound flow with the minimum target rate.
In order to reduce CPU overhead, looking for flows belonging to a hash entry
is rate limited to once every 100ms.
This rework is also used as preparation for emulating bridge offload by
managing L4 offload entries on demand.

Add the missing IPv6 flow offloading support for routing only.
Hardware flow offloading is done by the packet processing engine (PPE)
of the Ethernet MAC and as it doesn't support mangling of IPv6 packets,
IPv6 NAT cannot be supported.

The Wireless Ethernet Dispatch subsystem on the MT7622 SoC can be
configured to intercept and handle access to the DMA queues and
PCIe interrupts for a MT7615/MT7915 wireless card.
It can manage the internal WDMA (Wireless DMA) controller, which allows
ethernet packets to be passed from the packet switch engine (PSE) to the
wireless card, bypassing the CPU entirely.
This can be used to implement hardware flow offloading from ethernet to
WLAN.

Instead of returning -1 (-EPERM) when MDIO bus is stuck busy
while writing or 0xffff if it happens while reading, return the
appropriate -ETIMEDOUT. Also fix return type to int instead of u32.

mtk_eth_soc has not been updated for commit 7cceb599d1 ("net: phylink:
avoid mac_config calls"), and makes use of state->speed and
state->duplex in contravention of the phylink documentation. This makes
reliant on the legacy behaviours, so mark it as a legacy driver.

Now that we have a better method to select SFP interface modes, we
no longer need to use phylink_helper_basex_speed() in a driver's
validation function, and we can also get rid of our hack to indicate
both 1000base-X and 2500base-X if the comphy is present to make that
work. Remove this hack and use of phylink_helper_basex_speed().

As phylink checks the interface mode against the supported_interfaces
bitmap, we no longer need to validate the interface mode, nor handle
PHY_INTERFACE_MODE_NA in the validation function. Remove these to
simplify the implementation.

This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and
function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr.
Commit 406f42fa0d ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount
of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look
up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all
the writes to it got through appropriate helpers.
Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const
is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing.
It seems like it's still better to add the const in case
the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled
for the build.
No functional changes.

Sometimes multiple CLS_REPLACE calls are issued for the same connection.
rhashtable_insert_fast does not check for these duplicates, so multiple
hardware flow entries can be created.

Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement
the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware
timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP.
Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to
implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands.
This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find
their way through the implementation.

The MT7628/88 SoC(s) have other (limited) packet counter registers than
currently supported in the mtk_eth_soc driver. This patch adds support
for reading these registers, so that the packet statistics are correctly
updated.
Additionally the defines for the non-MT7628 variant packet counter
registers are added and used in this patch instead of using hard coded
values.

When updating to latest mainline for some testing on the GARDENA smart
gateway based on the MT7628, I noticed that ethernet does not work any
more. Commit e9229ffd55 ("net: ethernet: mtk_eth_soc: implement
dynamic interrupt moderation") introduced this problem, as it missed the
RX_DIM & TX_DIM configuration for this SoC variant. This patch fixes
this by calling mtk_dim_rx() & mtk_dim_tx() in this case as well.

When running short on descriptors, only stop the queue for the netdev that
tx was attempted for. By the time something tries to send on the other

usleep_range often ends up sleeping much longer than the 10-20us provided
as a range here. This causes significant latency in mdio bus acceses,
which easily adds multiple seconds to the boot time on MT7621 when polling
DSA slave ports.
Use cond_resched instead of usleep_range, since the MDIO access does not
take much time

Issue was traffic problems after a while with increased ping times if
flow offload is active. It turns out that key_offset with cookie is
needed in rhashtable_params but was re-assigned to head_offset.
Fix the assignment.

The intention is for the loop to timeout if the body does not succeed.
The current logic calls time_is_before_jiffies(timeout) which is false
until after the timeout, so the loop body never executes.
Fix by using readl_poll_timeout as a more standard and less error-prone
solution.

of_get_mac_address() returns a "const void*" pointer to a MAC address.
Lately, support to fetch the MAC address by an NVMEM provider was added.
But this will only work with platform devices. It will not work with
PCI devices (e.g. of an integrated root complex) and esp. not with DSA
ports.
There is an of_* variant of the nvmem binding which works without
devices. The returned data of a nvmem_cell_read() has to be freed after
use. On the other hand the return of_get_mac_address() points to some
static data without a lifetime. The trick for now, was to allocate a
device resource managed buffer which is then returned. This will only
work if we have an actual device.
Change it, so that the caller of of_get_mac_address() has to supply a
buffer where the MAC address is written to. Unfortunately, this will
touch all drivers which use the of_get_mac_address().
Usually the code looks like:

This can then be simply rewritten as:

Sometimes is_valid_ether_addr() is used to test the MAC address.
of_get_mac_address() already makes sure, it just returns a valid MAC
address. Thus we can just test its return code. But we have to be
careful if there are still other sources for the MAC address before the
of_get_mac_address(). In this case we have to keep the
is_valid_ether_addr() call.
The following coccinelle patch was used to convert common cases to the
new style. Afterwards, I've manually gone over the drivers and fixed the
return code variable: either used a new one or if one was already

The PPE (packet processing engine) is used to offload NAT/routed or even
bridged flows. This patch brings up the PPE and uses it to get a packet
hash. It also contains some functionality that will be used to bring up
flow offloading.

MT762x HW, except for MT7628, supports frame length up to 2048
(maximum length on GDM), so allow setting MTU up to 2030.

During development we tried to make the interrupt handling as fine-grained
as possible with TX and RX interrupts being disabled/enabled independently
and the counter registers reset from workqueue context.
Unfortunately after thorough testing of current mainline, we noticed the
driver has become unstable under heavy load. While this is hard to
reproduce, it's quite consistent in the driver's current form.
This patch proposes to go back to the previous approach of doing all
processing in napi context with all interrupts masked in order to make the
driver usable in mainline linux. This doesn't impact the performance on
pumpkin boards at all and it's in line with what many ethernet drivers do
in mainline linux anyway.
At the same time we're adding a FIXME comment about the need to improve
the interrupt handling.

Since commit 84af7a6194 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.
This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.

The dma_addr field in desc_data must not be overwritten until after the
new skb is mapped. Currently we do replace it with uninitialized value
in error path. This change fixes it by moving the assignment before the
label to which we jump after mapping or allocation errors.

Propagate the resolved link parameters via the mac_link_up() call for
MACs that do not automatically track their PCS state. We propagate the
link parameters via function arguments so that inappropriate members
of struct phylink_link_state can't be accessed, and creating a new
structure just for this adds needless complexity to the API.

Rename the mac_link_state() method to mac_pcs_get_state() to make it
clear that it should be returning the MACs PCS current state, which
is used for inband negotiation rather than just reading back what the
MAC has been configured for. Update the documentation to explicitly
mention that this is for inband.
We drop the return value as well; most of phylink doesn't check the
return value and it is not clear what it should do on error - instead
arrange for state->link to be false.

Enable GDM GDMA_DROP_ALL mode to drop all packet during the
stop operation. This is recommended by the mt762x HW design
to drop all packet from GMAC before stopping PDMA.

Refine the timing of GDM/PSE setup, move it from mtk_hw_init
to mtk_open. This is recommended by the mt762x HW design to
do GDM/PSE setup only after PDMA has been started.
We exclude mt7628 in mtk_gdm_config function since it is a old IP
and there is no GDM/PSE block on it.

Before this change of_get_phy_mode() returned an enum,
phy_interface_t. On error, -ENODEV etc, is returned. If the result of
the function is stored in a variable of type phy_interface_t, and the
compiler has decided to represent this as an unsigned int, comparision
with -ENODEV etc, is a signed vs unsigned comparision.
Fix this problem by changing the API. Make the function return an
error, or 0 on success, and pass a pointer, of type phy_interface_t,
where the phy mode should be stored.

In the original design, mtk_phy_connect function will set ge_mode=1
if phy-mode is GMII(PHY_INTERFACE_MODE_GMII) and then set the correct
ge_mode to ETHSYS_SYSCFG0 register. This logic was broken after apply
mediatek PHYLINK patch(Fixes tag), the new mtk_mac_config function will
not set ge_mode=1 for GMII mode hence the final ETHSYS_SYSCFG0 setting
will be incorrect for mt7629 GMII mode. This patch add the missing logic
back to fix it.

with one exception: MTK_QMTK_INT_STATUS. This patch renames

Each iteration of for_each_child_of_node puts the previous node, but in
the case of a goto from the middle of the loop, there is no put, thus
causing a memory leak. Hence add an of_node_put before the goto.

Both MTK_TRGMII_MT7621_CLK and MTK_PATH_BIT are defined as bit 10.
This can causes issues on non-MT7621 devices which has the
MTK_PATH_BIT(MTK_ETH_PATH_GMAC1_RGMII) and MTK_TRGMII capability set.
The wrong TRGMII setup code can be executed. The current wrongly executed
code doesn’t do any harm on MT7623 and the TRGMII setup for the MT7623
SOC side is done in MT7530 driver So it wasn’t noticed in the test.
Move all capability bits in one enum so that they are all unique and easy
to expand in the future.
Because mtk_eth_path enum is merged in to mkt_eth_capabilities, the
variable path value is no longer between 0 to number of paths,
mtk_eth_path_name can’t be used anymore in this form. Convert the
mtk_eth_path_name array to a function to lookup the pathname.
The old code walked thru the mtk_eth_path enum, which is also merged
with mkt_eth_capabilities. Expand array mtk_eth_muxc so it can store the
name and capability bit of the mux. Convert the code so it can walk thru
the mtk_eth_muxc array.

No reason to error out on a MT7621 device with DDR2 memory when non
TRGMII mode is selected.
Only MT7621 DDR2 clock setup is not supported for TRGMII mode.
But non TRGMII mode doesn't need any special clock setup.

These are all more "GPL-2.0-or-later" or "GPL-2.0-only" tags being
added, based on the text in the files. We are slowly chipping away at
the 700+ different ways people tried to write the license text. All of
these were reviewed on the spdx mailing list by a number of different
people.
We now have over 60% of the kernel files covered with SPDX tags:

All path route on various SoCs all would be managed in common function
mtk_setup_hw_path that is determined by the both applied devicetree
regarding the path between GMAC and the target PHY or switch by the
capability of target SoC in the runtime.

There was NVMEM support added to of_get_mac_address, so it could now
return ERR_PTR encoded error values, so we need to adjust all current
users of of_get_mac_address to this new fact.
While at it, remove superfluous is_valid_ether_addr as the MAC address
returned from of_get_mac_address is always valid and checked by
is_valid_ether_addr anyway.

There are two reasons for this.
First, the xmit_more flag conceptually doesn't fit into the skb, as
xmit_more is not a property related to the skb.
Its only a hint to the driver that the stack is about to transmit another
packet immediately.
Second, it was only done this way to not have to pass another argument
to ndo_start_xmit().
We can place xmit_more in the softnet data, next to the device recursion.
The recursion counter is already written to on each transmit. The "more"
indicator is placed right next to it.
Drivers can use the netdev_xmit_more() helper instead of skb->xmit_more
to check the "more packets coming" hint.
skb->xmit_more is retained (but always 0) to not cause build breakage.
This change takes care of the simple s/skb->xmit_more/netdev_xmit_more()/
conversions. Remaining drivers are converted in the next patches.

The Mediatek MT7621 SoC contains the same ethernet hardware module as
used on a number of other MediaTek SoC parts. There are some minor
differences to deal with but we can use the same driver to support
them all.
This patch is based on work by Bjørn Mork <bjorn@mork.no>, and his
original patch is at:

There is an additional compatible devicetree type added, and the primary
change to the code required is to support a single interrupt (for both
RX and TX interrupts).

- phy_set_max_speed() is only needed if you want to reduce the
max speed, typically if the PHY supports 1Gbps but the MAC
supports 100Mbps only.
- The pause parameters are autonegotiated. Except you have a specific
need you normally don't need to manually fiddle with this.
- phy_start_aneg() is called implicitly by the phylib state machine,
you shouldn't call it manually except you have a good excuse.
- netif_carrier_on/netif_carrier_off in mtk_phy_link_adjust() isn't
needed. It's done by phy_link_change() in phylib.

There are a few MAC/PHYs combinations which now support > 1Gbps. These
may need to make use of link modes with bits > 31. Thus their
supported PHY features or advertised features cannot be implemented
using the current bitmap in a u32. Convert to using a linkmode bitmap,
which can support all the currently devices link modes, and is future
proof as more modes are added.

PHY drivers don't indicate they support pause. They expect MAC drivers
to enable its support if the MAC has the needed hardware. Thus MAC
drivers should not mask Pause support, but enable it.

Many Ethernet MAC drivers want to limit the PHY to only advertise a
maximum speed of 100Mbs or 1Gbps. Rather than using a mask, make use
of the helper function phy_set_max_speed().

Since driver is devicetree-based, all device type and charateristic can be
determined by the compatible string and its data. It's unnecessary to
create another dependent function to check chip ID and then decide whether
the specific funciton is being supported on a certain device. It can be
totally replaced by the existing flag, so a cleanup is made by removing
the function and the only user, HWLRO.
MT2701 also have a missing HWLRO support in old code, so add it the same
patch.

The Mediatek ethernet driver fails to build after commit 23c35f48f5
("pinctrl: remove include file from <linux/device.h>") because it relies
on the pinctrl/consumer.h and pinctrl/devinfo.h being pulled in by the
device.h header implicitly.
Include these headers explicitly to avoid the build failure.

Remove superfluous pin setup to get out of accessing invalid I/O pin
registers because the way for pin configuring tends to be different from
various SoCs and thus it should be better being managed and controlled by
the pinctrl driver which MT7622 already can support.

The current solution would setup fixed and force link of 1Gbps to the both
GMAC on the default. However, The GMAC should always be put to link down
state when the GMAC is disabled on certain target boards. Otherwise,
the driver possibly receives unexpected data from the floating hardware
connection through the unused GMAC. Although the driver had been added
certain protection in RX path to get rid of such kind of unexpected data
sent to the upper stack.

atomic_t variables are currently used to implement reference
counters with the following properties:
- counter is initialized to 1 using atomic_set()
- a resource is freed upon counter reaching zero
- once counter reaches zero, its further
increments aren't allowed
- counter schema uses basic atomic operations
(set, inc, inc_not_zero, dec_and_test, etc.)
Such atomic variables should be converted to a newly provided
refcount_t type and API that prevents accidental counter overflows
and underflows. This is important since overflows and underflows
can lead to use-after-free situation and be exploitable.
The variable mtk_eth.dma_refcnt is used as pure reference counter.
Convert it to refcount_t and fix up the operations.

This patch adds the driver for ethernet controller on MT7622 SoC. It has
the similar handling logic as the previously MT7623 does, but there are
additions against with MT7623 SoC, the shared SGMII given for the dual
GMACs and including 5-ports 10/100 embedded switch support (ESW) as the
GMAC1 option, thus more clocks consumers for the extra feature are
introduced here. So for ease portability and maintenance, those
differences all are being kept inside the platform data as other drivers
usually do. Currently testing successfully is done with those patches for
the conditions such as GMAC2 with IP1001 PHY via RGMII and GMAC1/2 with
RTL8211F PHY via SGMII.

This patch is the preparation patch in order to adapt into various
hardware through adding platform data which holds specific characteristics
among MediaTek SoCs and introducing the unified clock handler for those
distinct clock requirements depending on different features such as
TRGMII and SGMII getting support on the target SoC. And finally, add
enhancement with given the generic description for Kconfig and remove the
unnecessary machine type dependency in Makefile.

Potential dangerous invalid memory might be accessed if invalid mac value
reflected from the forward port field in rxd4 caused by possible potential
hardware defects. So added a simple sanity checker to avoid the kind of

The get_rps_cpu() function will not do any RPS on the data flow when no
queue is setup and always use the current cpu where the IRQ was handled
to also handle the backlog. As we only have one physical queue we always
set this to 0 unconditionally.

Originally the driver only utilised the new QDMA engine. The current code
still assumes this is the case when locking the IRQ mask register. Since
RX now runs on the old style PDMA engine we can add a second lock. This
patch reduces the IRQ latency as the TX and RX path no longer need to wait
on each other under heavy load.

The PDMA engine used for RX allows IRQ aggregation. The patch sets up the
corresponding registers to aggregate 4 IRQs into one. Using aggregation
reduces the load on the core handling to a quarter thus reducing IRQ
latency and increasing RX performance by around 10%.

Fix port inconsistency on TXD due to hardware BUG that would cause
different port number is carried on the same TXD between tx_map()
and tx_unmap() with the iperf test. It would cause confusing BQL
logic which leads to kernel panic when dual GMAC runs concurrently.

The patch adds the setup for allowing CDM can recognize these packets with
carrying port-distinguishing tag. Otherwise, these tagging packets will be
handled incorrectly by CDM. The setup is also working out for general
untag packets as well.

When the binding was defined, I was not aware that mt2701 was an earlier
version of the SoC. For sake of consistency, the ethernet driver should
use mt2701 inside the compat string as this is the earliest SoC with the
ethernet core.
The ethernet driver is currently of no real use until we finish and
upstream the DSA driver. There are no users of this binding yet. It should
be safe to fix this now before it is too late and we need to provide
backward compatibility for the mt7623-eth compat string.

The network device operation for reading statistics is only called
in one place, and it ignores the return value. Having a structure
return value is potentially confusing because some future driver could
incorrectly assume that the return value was used.
Fix all drivers with ndo_get_stats64 to have a void function.

Couple conflicts resolved here:
1) In the MACB driver, a bug fix to properly initialize the
RX tail pointer properly overlapped with some changes
to support variable sized rings.
2) In XGBE we had a "CONFIG_PM" --> "CONFIG_PM_SLEEP" fix
overlapping with a reorganization of the driver to support
ACPI, OF, as well as PCI variants of the chip.
3) In 'net' we had several probe error path bug fixes to the
stmmac driver, meanwhile a lot of this code was cleaned up
and reorganized in 'net-next'.
4) The cls_flower classifier obtained a helper function in
'net-next' called __fl_delete() and this overlapped with
Daniel Borkamann's bug fix to use RCU for object destruction
in 'net'. It also overlapped with Jiri's change to guard
the rhashtable_remove_fast() call with a check against
tc_skip_sw().
5) In mlx4, a revert bug fix in 'net' overlapped with some
unrelated changes in 'net-next'.
6) In geneve, a stale header pointer after pskb_expand_head()
bug fix in 'net' overlapped with a large reorganization of
the same code in 'net-next'. Since the 'net-next' code no
longer had the bug in question, there was nothing to do
other than to simply take the 'net-next' hunks.

Replace dev_kfree_skb with dev_kfree_skb_any in mtk_start_xmit()
which can be called from hard irq context (netpoll) and from
other contexts. mtk_start_xmit() only frees skbs that it has
dropped.

With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by
eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as
deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been
audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means
they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu
prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of
out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it.
Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using
eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you
couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set
to 4096 to remedy that.

adds PHY-mode "trgmii" as an extension for the operation
mode of the PHY interface for PHY_INTERFACE_MODE_TRGMII.
and adds a variable trgmii inside mtk_mac as the indication
to make the difference between the MAC connected to internal
switch or connected to external PHY by the given configuration
on the board and then to perform the corresponding setup on
TRGMII hardware module.

The codes add ethtool functions to set RX flows for HW LRO. Because the
HW LRO hardware can only recognize the destination IP of TCP/IP RX flows,
the ethtool command to add HW LRO flow is as below:
ethtool -N [devname] flow-type tcp4 dst-ip [ip_addr] loc [0~1]
Otherwise, cause the hardware can set total four destination IPs, each
GMAC (GMAC1/GMAC2) can set two IPs separately at most.

The codes add the large receive offload (LRO) functions by hardware as below:
1) PDMA has total four RX rings that one is the normal ring, and others can
be configured as LRO rings.
2) Only TCP/IP RX flows can be offloaded. The hardware can set four IP
addresses at most, if the destination IP of the RX flow matches one of
them, it has the chance to be offloaded.
3) There three RX flows can be offloaded at most, and one flow is mapped to
one RX ring.
4) If there are more than three candidate RX flows, the hardware can
choose three of them by throughput comparison results.

struct mtk_eth has already contained struct regmap ethsys pointer
to the address range of the internal circuit reset, so we reuse it
to reset more internal blocks on ethernet hardware such as packet
processing engine (PPE) and frame engine (FE) instead of rstc which
deals with FE only.

1) original driver only resets DMA used by descriptor rings
which can't guarantee it can recover all various kinds of fatal
errors, so the patch tries to reset the underlying hardware
resource from scratch on Mediatek SoC required for ethernet
running, including power, pin mux control, clock and internal
circuits on the ethernet in order to restore into the initial
state which the rebooted machine gives.
2) add state variable inside structure mtk_eth to help distinguish
mtk_hw_init is called between the initialization during boot time
or re-initialization during the reset process.
3) add ge_mode variable inside structure mtk_mac for restoring
the interface mode of the current setup for the target MAC.
4) remove __init attribute from mtk_hw_init definition

the ethernet belongs to inside the flow of hardware initialization
and deinitialization which helps the entire ethernet hardware block

the existing mtk_hw_init includes hardware and software
initialization inside so that it is slightly hard to reuse
them for the process of the reset recovery, so some splitting
is made here for keeping hardware initializing relevant thing
and the else such as IRQ registration and MDIO initialization
what are all about to the interface of core driver moved to the
other proper place because they have no needs to register IRQ and
re-initialize structure again during the reset process.

The patch adds support for aggregating more SKBs feed into NAPI in
order to get more benefits from generic receive offload (GRO) by
peeking at the RX ring status and moving more packets right before
returning from NAPI RX polling handler if NAPI budgets are still
available and some packets already present in hardware.

The patch makes move wmb() to outside the loop that could help
RX path handling more faster although that RX descriptors aren't
freed for DMA to use as soon as possible, but based on my experiment
and the result shows it still can reach about 943Mbpis without
performance drop that is tested based on the setup with one port
using Giga PHY and 256 RX descriptors for DMA to move.

a lot of parts in the driver uses devm_* APIs to gain benefits from the
device resource management, so devm_mdiobus_alloc is also used instead
of mdiobus_alloc to have more elegant code flow.
Using common code provided by the devm_* helps to
1) have simplified the code flow as [1] says
2) decrease the risk of incorrect error handling by human
3) only a few drivers used it since it was proposed on linux 3.16,
so just hope to promote for this.

which net device the SKB is complete for depends on the forward port
on txd4 on the corresponding TX descriptor, but the information isn't
set up well in case of SKB fragments that would lead to watchdog timeout

Runtime warning occurs if DMA-API debug feature is enabled that would be
raised by pointers passed to DMA API as arguments to inconsistent struct
device objects, so that the patch makes them usage aligned between DMA
operations such as dma_map_*() and dma_unmap_*() to eliminate the warning.

Commit 08ef55c6f2
("net-next: mediatek: fix gigabit and flow control advertisement")
had supported proper flow control settings for GMAC1. But for GMAC0,
1.GMAC0 shares the common logic with GMAC1 inside mtk_phy_link_adjust()
to adapt various settings for the target phy.
2.GMAC0 uses fixed-phy to connect to a builtin gigabit switch with
fixed link speed as commit 0c72c50f6f
("net-next: mediatek: add fixed-phy support") describes.
3.However, fixed-phy doesn't enable SUPPORTED_Pause & SUPPORTED_Asym_Pause
supported flag on default that would cause mtk_phy_link_adjust() not to
enable flow control setting on GMAC0 properly and cause packet dropped
when high traffic.
Due to these reasons, the patch adds SUPPORTED_Pause & SUPPORTED_Asym_Pause
supported flags on fixed-phy used by the driver to have proper handling on
the both GMAC with the shared common logic.

The ethernet core has 3 IRQs. Using the IRQ grouping registers we are able
to separate TX and RX IRQs, which allows us to service them on separate
cores. This patch splits the IRQ handler into 2 separate functions, one for
TX and another for RX. The TX housekeeping is split out into its own NAPI
handler.

The code that enables and disables IRQs is missing proper locking. After
adding the IRQ grouping patch and routing the RX and TX IRQs to different
cores we experienced IRQ stalls. Fix this by adding proper locking.
We use a dedicated lock to reduce the latency if the IRQ code.

The code currently uses variables to store and never modify the bit masks
of interrupts. This is legacy code from an early version of the driver
that supported MIPS based SoCs where the IRQ bits depended on the actual
SoC. As the bits are the same for all ARM based SoCs using this driver we
can remove the intermediate variables.

The driver was originally written for MIPS based SoC. These required the
IRQ mask register to be read after writing it to ensure that the content
was actually applied. As this version only works on ARM based SoCs, we can
safely remove the 2 reads as they are no longer required.

The code checks if the queue should be stopped because we are below the
threshold of free descriptors only to check if it should be started again.
If we do end up in a state where we are at the threshold limit, it makes
more sense to just stop the queue and wait for the next IRQ to trigger the
TX housekeeping again. There is no rush in enqueuing the next packet, it
needs to wait for all the others in the queue to be dispatched first
anyway.

The TX ring setup has an off by one error causing it to not utilise all
descriptors. This has the side effect that we need to reset the next
pointer at runtime to make it work. Fix the off by one and remove the
code fixing the ring at runtime.

During stress testing, after reducing the threshold value, we have seen
TX timeouts that were caused by the watchdog_timeo value being too low.
Increase the value to 5 * HZ which is a value commonly used by many other
drivers.

The logic to calculate the threshold value for stopping the TX queue is
bad. Currently it will always use 1/2 of the rings size, which is way too
much. Set the threshold to MAX_SKB_FRAGS. This makes sure that the queue
is stopped when there is not enough room to accept an additional segment.

The current code only disables those IRQs that we will later use. To
ensure that we have a predefined state, we really want to disable all IRQs.

The QDMA engine can fail to update the register pointing to the next TX
descriptor if this bit does not get set in the QDMA configuration register.
Not setting this bit can result in invalid values inside the TX rings
registers which will causes TX stalls.

Scratch memory gets allocated in mtk_init_fq_dma() but the corresponding
code to free it is missing inside mtk_dma_free() causing a memory leak.
With this patch applied, we can run ifconfig up/down several thousand
times without any problems.

If an external Gigabit PHY is connected to either of the MACs we need to
be able to tell the PHY to use a delay. Not doing so will result in heavy
packet loss and/or data corruption when using PHYs such as the IC+ IP1001.
We tell the PHY which MII delay mode to use via the devictree.
The ethernet driver needs to be adapted to handle all 3 rgmii-*id modes
in the same way as normal rgmii when setting up the MAC.

The MT7623 SoC has a builtin gigabit switch. If we want to use it, GMAC1
needs to be configured using a fixed link speed and flow control settings.
The easiest way to do this is to used the fixed-phy driver, allowing us to
reuse the existing mdio polling code to setup the MAC.

The current code will not setup the PHYs advertisement features correctly.
Fix this and properly advertise Gigabit features and properly handle
asymmetric pause frames.

The driver currently uses kfree() to clear the mii_bus. This is not the
correct way to clear the memory and mdiobus_free() should be used instead.
This patch fixes the two instances where this happens in the driver.

The QID field gets set to the mac id. This made the DMA linked list queue
the traffic of each MAC on a different internal queue. However during long
term testing we found that this will cause traffic stalls as the multi
queue setup requires a more complete initialisation which is not part of
the upstream driver yet.
This patch removes the code setting the QID field, resulting in all
traffic ending up in queue 0 which works without any special setup.

The worker always touches both netdevs. It is ethernet core and not MAC
specific. We only need one worker, which belongs into the ethernets core
struct.

The driver supports 2 MACs. Both run on the same DMA ring. If we hit a TX
timeout we need to stop both netdevs before restarting them again. If we
don't do this, mtk_stop() wont shutdown DMA and the consecutive call to
mtk_open() wont restart DMA and enable IRQs.

Inside the TX path there is a lock inside the tx_map function. This is
however too late. The patch moves the lock to the start of the xmit
function right before the free count check of the DMA ring happens.
If we do not do this, the code becomes racy leading to TX stalls and
dropped packets. This happens as there are 2 netdevs running on the
same physical DMA ring.

The driver supports 2 MACs. Both run on the same DMA ring. If we go
above/below the TX rings threshold value, we always need to wake/stop
the queue of both devices. Not doing to can cause TX stalls and packet
drops on one of the devices.

HW reset is triggered in the mtk_hw_init() function. There is no need to
also reset the core during probe.

The code used to also support the PDMA engine, which had 2 packet pointers
per descriptor. Because of this we had to divide the result by 2 and round
it up. This is no longer needed as the code only supports QDMA.

The device_reset() function may fail, so we have to check
its return value, e.g. to make deferred probing work correctly.
gcc warns about it because of the warn_unused_result attribute:

Device drivers should not mess with the DMA mask directly,
but instead call dma_set_mask() etc if needed.
In case of the mtk_eth_soc driver, the mask already gets set
correctly when the device is created, and setting it again
is against the documented API.
This removes the incorrect setting.

Add ethernet support for MediaTek SoCs from the MT7623 family. These have
dual GMAC. Depending on the exact version, there might be a built-in
Gigabit switch (MT7530). The core does not have the typical DMA ring setup.
Instead there is a linked list that we add descriptors to. There is only
one linked list that both MACs use together. There is a special field
inside the TX descriptors called the VQID. This allows us to assign packets
to different internal queues. By using a separate id for each MAC we are
able to get deterministic results for BQL. Additionally we need to
provide the core with a block of scratch memory that is the same size as
the RX ring and data buffer. This is really needed to make the HW datapath
work. Although the driver does not support this yet, we still need to
assign the memory and tell the core about it for RX to work.
