Instead of assuming that every channel defined statically by
als_channels[] is present, assign dynamically based on presence of the
respective usage id in the descriptor. This will allow to register ALS
with limited channel support. Append the timestamp as the last channel.
Update available_scan_mask to specify all channels which are present.
There is no intentional function changes done.

The vcnl4040/vcnl4200 proximity sensor defaults to 12 bit data
resolution, but the chip also supports 16 bit data resolution, which is
called proximity high definition (PS_HD).
Make the vcnl4040/vcnl4200 proximity sensor use the high definition for
all data readings. Please note that in order to preserve the 12 bit
integer part of the in_proximity_raw output, the format is changed from
integer to fixed point.

When als_capture_sample() is called with usage ID
HID_USAGE_SENSOR_TIME_TIMESTAMP, return 0. The HID sensor core ignores
the return value for capture_sample() callback, so return value doesn't
make difference. But correct the return value to return success instead
of -EINVAL.

The complexity of config guards needed for ACPI_PTR() is not worthwhile
for the small amount of saved data. This example was doing it correctly
but I am proposing dropping this so as to reduce chance of cut and paste
where it is done wrong. Also drop now unneeded linux/acpi.h include and
added linux/mod_devicetable.h for struct acpi_device_id definition.

The AMS AS7331 is a UV light sensor with three channels: UVA, UVB and
UVC (also known as deep UV and referenced as DUV in the iio core).
Its internal structure and forming blocks are practically identical to
the ones the AS73211 contains: API, internal DAC, I2C interface and
registers, measurement modes, number of channels and pinout.
The only difference between them is the photodiodes used to acquire
light, which means that only some modifications are required to add
support for the AS7331 in the existing driver.
The temperature channel is identical for both devices and only the
channel modifiers of the IIO_INTENSITY channels need to account for the
device type.
The scale values have been obtained from the chapter "7.5 Transfer
Function" of the official datasheet[1] for the configuration chosen as
basis (Nclk = 1024 and GAIN = 1). Those values keep the units from the
datasheet (nW/cm^2), as opposed to the units used for the AS73211
(nW/m^2).
Add a new device-specific data structure to account for the device
differences: channel types and scale of LSB per channel.

The scale values associated to the light channels are calculated as a
division that can be better expressed as an IIO_VAL_FRACTIONAL type
instead of the current IIO_VAL_INT.
Note that the constant values used for the calculation were scaled up to
work with integers, turning the nW/cm^2 units from the datasheet into
nW/m^2, which would not be necessary with the IIO_VAL_FRACTIONAL type.
But to avoid issues from current users of the driver, the units must be
kept.

This commit assumes that every HID descriptor for ALS sensor has
presence of usage id ID HID_USAGE_SENSOR_LIGHT_COLOR_TEMPERATURE.
When the above usage id is absent, driver probe fails. This breaks
ALS sensor functionality on many platforms.
Till we have a good solution, revert this commit.

HID_USAGE_SENSOR_LIGHT_CHROMATICITY_Y. When the above usage ids are
absent, driver probe fails. This breaks ALS sensor functionality on
many platforms.
Till we have a good solution, revert this commit.

The ISL76682 is very basic ALS which only supports ALS or IR mode
in four ranges, 1k/4k/16k/64k LUX. There is no IRQ support or any
other fancy functionality.

The Vishay VEMl6075 is a low power, 16-bit resolution UVA and UVB
light sensor with I2C interface and noise compensation (visible and
infrarred).
Every UV channel generates an output signal measured in counts per
integration period, where the integration time is configurable.
This driver adds support for both UV channels and the ultraviolet
index (UVI) inferred from them according to the device application note
with open-air (no teflon) coefficients.

The RGB + IR data can be used to calculate the illuminance value (luxes).
Implement the equation obtained from the ROHM HW colleagues and add a
raw light data channel outputting illuminance values in (nano) Luxes.
Both the read_raw and buffering values are supported, with the limitation
that buffering is only allowed when a suitable scan-mask is used. (RGB+IR,
no clear).
The equation has been developed by ROHM HW colleagues for open air sensor.
Adding any lens to the sensor is likely to impact to used c1, c2, c3
coefficients. Also, the output values have only been tested on BU27008.
According to the HW colleagues, the very same equation should work on
BU27010 as well.
Calculate and output illuminance values from BU27008 and BU27010.

After enabling/disabling interrupts on the vcnl4040 chip the als and/or
ps sensor is powered on or off depending on the interrupt enable bits.
This is made as a last step in write_event_config.
But there is no reason to do this as the runtime PM handles the power
state of the sensors. Interfering with this may impact sensor readings.
Consider the following:
1. Userspace makes sensor data reading which triggers RPM resume
(sensor powered on) and a RPM suspend timeout. The timeout is 2000ms
before RPM suspend powers the sensor off if no new reading is made
within the timeout period.
2. Userspace disables interrupts => powers sensor off
3. Userspace reads sensor data = 0 because sensor is off and the
suspend timeout has not passed. For each new reading made within the
timeout period the timeout is renewed with 2000ms and RPM will not
make a new resume (device was not suspended). So the sensor will
not be powered on.
4. No further userspace reading for 2000ms ends RPM suspend timeout and
triggers suspend (powers off already powered off sensor).
Powering sensor off in (2) makes all consecutive readings made within
2000ms to the previous reading (3) return invalid data.
Skip setting power state when writing new event config.

In most cases, ambient color sensors also support the x and y light
colors, which represent the coordinates on the CIE 1931 chromaticity
diagram. Thus, add light chromaticity x and y.

Sensor hub attributes can be extended to support more channels. Repeat
the reading for the two existing channels and store them separately. It
still operates in the same manner as before where there was just one
entry. So in order to support more sensor hub attributes for ALS use
channel index to get specific sensor hub attributes.

returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart
from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks.
To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return
void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to
.remove_new() which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers
are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove().
Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove
callback to the void returning variant.

The ROHM BU27010 is an RGBC sensor with a flickering detection FIFO. The
RGBC+IR sensor functionality is largely similar to what the BU27008 has.
There are some notable things though:
- gain setting is once again new and exotic. Now, there is 6bit gain
setting where 4 of the bits are common to all channels and 2 bits
can be configured separately for each channel. The BU27010 has
similar "1X on other channels vs 2X on IR when selector is 0x0"
gain design as BU27008 had. So, we use same gain setting policy for
BU27010 as we did for BU27008 - driver sets same gain selector for all
channels but shows the gains separately for all channels so users
can (at least in theory) detect this 1X vs 2X madness...
- BU27010 has suffled all the control register bitfields to new
addresses and bit positions while still keeping the register naming
same.
- Some more power/reset control is added.
- FIFO for "flickering detection" is added.
The control register suffling made this slightly nasty. Still, it is
easier for maintenance perspective to add the BU27010 support in BU27008
driver because - even though the bit positions/addresses were changed -
most of the driver structure can be re-used. Writing own driver for
BU27010 would mean plenty of duplicate code albeit a tad more clarity.
The flickering FIFO is not supported by the driver.
Add BU27010 RGBC+IR support to rohm-bu27008 driver.

There is no need to call the dev_err() function directly to print a custom
message when handling an error from either the platform_get_irq() or
platform_get_irq_byname() functions as both are going to display an
appropriate error message in case of a failure.

The calibration bias is setting the LED current to change the detection
distance. Add read/write attribute for proximity calibration bias and
read attribute for available values. This is supported for vcnl4040 and

Add the proximity multi pulse (PS_MPS) as oversampling_ratio.
Instead of one single pulse per every defined time frame, one can
program2, 4, or even 8 pulses. This leads to a longer IRED on-time
for each proximity measurement value, which also results in a higher
detection range.
Add read/write attribute for proximity oversampling-ratio and read
attribute for available oversampling-ratio.
This is supported for vcnl4040 and vcnl4200.

Add read/write attribute for proximity and illuminance period. The
period is set in the interrupt persistence flags(PS_PERS and ALS_PERS).
An interrupt will not be asserted if the raw value is not over (or lower)
than the threshold for the set continued amount of measurements.
The time in seconds is calculated by the number of continued refreshes
multiplied with the integration time.
It will always pick the next lower possible value. The period changes,
if the integration time is changed.

The intensity data from bu27008 is unsigned. The type of the scan data
was incorrectly marked as signed resulting large intensity values to be
interpreted as negative ones.
Fix the scan data type.

raw_write. The IIO core is however defaulting to MICROs. This leads the
raw-write of smallest scales to never succeed as correct selector(s) are
not found.
Fix this by implementing the .write_raw_get_fmt callback to use NANO

The ROHM BU27008 is a sensor with 5 photodiodes (red, green, blue, clear
and IR) with four configurable channels. Red and green being always
available and two out of the rest three (blue, clear, IR) can be
selected to be simultaneously measured. Typical application is adjusting
LCD backlight of TVs, mobile phones and tablet PCs.

call-back type"), all drivers being converted to .probe_new() and then
03c835f498 ("i2c: Switch .probe() to not take an id parameter") convert

The reset bit must be always written to the hardware no matter what value
is in a cache or register. Ensure this by using regmap_write_bits()
instead of the regmap_update_bits(). Furthermore, the SWRESET bit may be
self-clearing, so mark the SYSTEM_CONTROL register volatile to guarantee
we do also read the right state - should we ever need to read it.
Finally, writing the SWRESET bit will restore the default register
values. This can cause register cache to be outdated if there are any
register values cached.
Rebuild register cache after SWRESET and use regmap_update_bits() when
performing the reset.

Devices which may take a while to initialize during probe and which have
no strong reason to probe synchronously can request asynchronous probing
as default probe strategy. This can speed-up start times on some
platforms.
The BU27034 gets probe delayed for at least two reasons. It enables the
supply regulator, (which is likely to have ramp-up delay if it was
disabled) and additionally it delays while the sensor itself is
initializing.
Changing to asynchronous probing may cause problems. Some of which are

Enabling async probing for the ROHM BU27034 should be fairly safe to try
though as there is no in-tree users for it yet. If the async probing
appears to be an issue we can switch easily back to synchronous (or
better yet, fix the actual problem).

This driver uses the continuous mode of the chip and integration
time can be configured through sysfs.
The constants for calculating lux value differs between packaging
so it uses different compatible string for the two versions
"ti,opt4001-picostar" and "ti,opt4001-sot-5x3" since the device id
is the same.

The bu27034 uses micro seconds for integration time configuration. This
is incorrect as the ABI mandates use of seconds.

It's pretty big, but due to the removal of pcmcia drivers, almost breaks
even for number of lines added vs. removed, a nice change.

ROHM BU27034 is an ambient light sensor with 3 channels and 3 photo diodes
capable of detecting a very wide range of illuminance. Typical application
is adjusting LCD and backlight power of TVs and mobile phones.
Add initial support for the ROHM BU27034 ambient light sensor.
NOTE:
- Driver exposes 4 channels. One IIO_LIGHT channel providing the
calculated lux values based on measured data from diodes #0 and
#1. In addition, 3 IIO_INTENSITY channels are emitting the raw
register data from all diodes for more intense user-space
computations.
- Sensor has GAIN values that can be adjusted from 1x to 4096x.
- Sensor has adjustible measurement times of 5, 55, 100, 200 and
400 mS. Driver does not support 5 mS which has special
limitations.
- Driver exposes standard 'scale' adjustment which is
implemented by:
1) Trying to adjust only the GAIN
2) If GAIN adjustment alone can't provide requested
scale, adjusting both the time and the gain is
attempted.
- Driver exposes writable INT_TIME property that can be used
for adjusting the measurement time. Time adjustment will also
cause the driver to try to adjust the GAIN so that the
overall scale is kept as close to the original as possible.

tsl2772_read_prox_diodes() will correctly parse the properties from
device tree to determine which proximity diode(s) to read from, however
it didn't actually set this value on the struct tsl2772_settings. Let's
go ahead and fix that.

If a second dummy client that talks to the actual I2C address was
created in probe(), there should be a proper cleanup on driver and
device removal to avoid leakage.
So unregister the dummy client via another callback.

There are different init functions for the sensors in this driver in
which only one initializes the generic vcnl4000_lock. With commit
e21b5b1f26 ("iio: light: vcnl4000: Preserve conf bits when toggle power")
the vcnl4040 sensor started to depend on the lock, but it was missed to
initialize it in vcnl4040's init function. This has not been visible
until we run lockdep on it:

This driver supports 4 chips, by which only one (vcnl4010) handles
interrupts and has support for triggered buffer. The setup of these
functions is hardcoded for vcnl4010 inside the generic vcnl4000_probe,
and thus ignores the chip specific configuration structure where all
other chip specific functions are specified.
This complicates adding interrupt handler and triggered buffer support
to chips which may have support for it.
Add members for irq threads and iio_buffer_setup_ops to the generic

In order to allow the chip_spec array reference the function pointers
for interrupts, the code for these functions need to be moved above the
chip_spec array.
This is a prestep to support a more generic setup of interrupts.

Commit c1e62062ff ("iio: light: cm32181: Handle CM3218 ACPI devices
with 2 I2C resources") creates a second client for the actual I2C
address, but the "struct device" passed to PM ops is the first I2C
client that can't talk to the sensor.
That means the I2C transfers in both suspend and resume routines can
fail and blocking the whole suspend process.
Instead of using the first client for I2C transfer, use the I2C client
stored in the cm32181 private struct so the PM ops can get the correct
I2C client to really talk to the sensor device.

The CALIB_FRAC() is defined and might had been used in
tsl2563_calib_from_sysfs(). But let's just move a comment
from it to the latter function.
CLAIB_FRAC_HALF is used in a single place, i.e. in
tsl2563_calib_to_sysfs(). So, let's just inline it there.
While at it, switch to use DIV_ROUND_CLOSEST().

Instead of hardcoding IRQ trigger type to IRQF_TRIGGER_RAISING,
let's respect the settings specified in the firmware description.
To be compatible with the older firmware descriptions, if trigger
type is not set up there, we'll set it to default (raising edge).

As the vcnl4040 and vcnl4200 chip uses runtime power management for
turning the ambient light and proximity sensors on/off, it overwrites
the entire register each time. In ALS_CONF register bit fields ALS_IT,
ALS_PERS, ALS_INT_EN are overwritten. In PS_CONF1 register bit fields
PS_DUTY, PS_PERS, PS_IT, PS_HD, and PS_INT are overwritten.
Add functions for preserving the affected bit fields when changing power
state.

tsl2583 probe() uses devm_iio_device_register() and calling
iio_device_unregister() causes the unregister to occur twice. s
Switch to iio_device_register() instead of devm_iio_device_register()
in probe to avoid the device managed cleanup.

Add IIO_CHAN_INFO_RAW to the mask to be able to read raw values
from the light sensor.
The userspace code for brightness control in steam deck uses the
in_illuminance_input value through sysfs and multiplies it
with a constant stored in BIOS at factory calibration time.
The downstream driver for LTRF216A that we have been using
has incorrect formula for LUX calculation which we corrected
in the upstreamed driver.
Now to be able to use the upstreamed driver, we need to add some
magic in userspace so that the brightness control works like before
even with the updated LUX formula.
Hence, we need the raw data to calculate a constant that can be
added in userspace code.

The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)
So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

Letting the compiler remove these functions when the kernel is built
without CONFIG_PM support is simpler and less error prone than the
use of #ifdef based config guards.
Removing instances of this approach from IIO also stops them being
copied into new drivers.
Very likely it would be safe to use DEFINE_RUNTIME_DEV_PM_OPS() here,
but that would be a functional change.

Instead of registering callback to process sensor events right at
initialization time, wait for the sensor to be register in the iio
subsystem.
Events can come at probe time (in case the kernel rebooted abruptly
without switching the sensor off for instance), and be sent to IIO core
before the sensor is fully registered.

Since cancel_delayed_work(&chip->poweroff_work) does not guarantee that
tsl2563_poweroff_work() is not running, tsl2563_set_power(chip, 0) can be
called from tsl2563_poweroff_work() after tsl2563_get_power(chip) and
tsl2563_set_power(chip, 1) are called. Use _sync version in order to make
sure that tsl2563_poweroff_work() is no longer running.

Commit 9e61d90115 ("iio: light: tsl2563: Remove
flush_scheduled_work") replaced cancel_delayed_work() +
flush_scheduled_work() with cancel_delayed_work_sync() for only
tsl2563_probe() side.
Do the same thing for tsl2563_remove() side, which was added by

When sensor location is known, populate iio sysfs "label" attribute:
* "accel-base" : the sensor is in the base of the convertible (2-1)
device.
* "accel-display" : the sensor is in the lid/display plane of the
device.
* "accel-camera" : the sensor is in the swivel camera subassembly.
The non-standard |location| attribute is removed, the field |loc| in
cros_ec_sensors_core_state is removed.
It apply to standalone accelerometer as well as IMU (accelerometer +
gyroscope) and sensors where the location is known (light).

Among all the users of the kfifo buffers, no one uses the
INDIO_BUFFER_HARDWARE mode. So let's take this as a general rule and
simplify a little bit the internals - overall the documentation - by

sysfs_emit() is preferred over raw s*printf() for sysfs attributes since it
knows about the sysfs buffer specifics and has some built-in checks for
size and alignment.
Use sysfs_emit() to format the custom device attributes of the lm3533
driver. Note this driver was using scnprintf correctly so this change
is about ensuring examples of code that might get cut and paste into new
drivers are using current best practice.

One case in here was inconsistent and was main focus of this patch.

Userspace tools like iio-sensor-proxy need to know the proximity level
that should be considered "near". This value is hardware-specific and
can be defined via the devicetree. Allow the driver to export the near
level.

Interrupt handlers must return one of the irqreturn_t values. Returning a
error code is not supported.
The stk3310 event interrupt handler returns an error code when reading the
flags register fails.
Fix the implementation to always return an irqreturn_t value.

IIO trigger handlers need to return one of the irqreturn_t values.
Returning an error code is not supported.
The ltr501 interrupt handler gets this right for most error paths, but
there is one case where it returns the error code.
In addition for this particular case the trigger handler does not call
`iio_trigger_notify_done()`. Which when not done keeps the triggered
disabled forever.
Modify the code so that the function returns a valid irqreturn_t value as
well as calling `iio_trigger_notify_done()` on all exit paths.

Previously ltr501 driver supported a number of light and,
proximity sensors including ltr501, ltr559 and ltr301.
This adds support for another light sensor ltr303
used in Seeed Studio reTerminal, a carrier board
for Raspberry Pi 4 CM.

The IIO core handles a trigger ops with all NULL callbacks the
same as if the trigger ops itself was NULL.
Remove the empty trigger ops from the interrupt trigger driver to slightly
reduce the boilerplate code. Object size of the driver module is also
slightly reduced.

PROBE_DEFER error, the benefit is that DEFER issue will be logged
in the devices_deferred debugfs file.
Using dev_err_probe() can reduce code size, and the error value
gets printed.

On some platforms the supply regulators must be enabled before the
sensor can work. Add vdd and vddio regulators for the sensor and IO bus
power respectively.

This change converts the driver to use only device-managed init routines in
the probe function of the driver.
This way, we no longer need the tcs3414_remove() hook.
We still need to keep the i2c_set_clientdata() call, as that's being used
for the PM routines.
And lastly, a devm_add_action_or_reset() hook is added to call the
powerdown handler when the chip is uninitialized or the probe fails.

Now that the driver's buffer is stored on the adjd_s311_data private
object, the driver is a simple conversion to use only device-managed
functions in the probe.
The iio_triggered_buffer_setup() and iio_device_register() functions are
the only ones needing conversion.
And i2c_set_clientdata() is no longer required.

This change moves the entire buffer on the private adjd_s311_data type.
Since the device has 4 channels, it's not a big waste to just allocate the
maximum possible buffer and use only what's needed.
This is in contrast with free-ing and re-allocating the buffer on the
update_scan_mode hook.
Since the driver pushes buffer data with
iio_push_to_buffers_with_timestamp(), the buffer must also include a
64-bit buffer for the timestamp, for each sample-set.
With this change, the adjd_s311_update_scan_mode() is no longer needed.

Some HID drivers use devm_kmemdup() already to clone the template IIO
channels information and update it.
However, there are still some drivers that kmemdup() and kfree() the
channels.
This change converts them to use devm_kmemdup() and bind the life-time of
this allocated object to the parent device object (in these drivers).

Allocating an IRQ is conditional to the IRQ existence, but freeing it
was not. If no IRQ was allocate, the driver would still try to free
IRQ 0. Add the missing checks.
This fixes the following trace when the driver is removed:

General driver churn doesn't always include updates of header includes.
Manual review of the output of the include-what-you-use checker lead to the
following cleanup. Hopefuly this brings things back to a good state for the
hid-sensor drivers.

A namespace for exported symbols makes clear who is a provider

aligned timestamp that will be inserted.
Here an explicit structure is not used, because the holes would
necessitate the addition of an explict memset(), to avoid a potential
kernel data leak, making for a less minimal fix.

The ltr559 chip uses only the lowest bit of the ALS_CONTR register to
configure between active and stand-by mode. In the original driver
BIT(1) is used, which does a software reset instead.
This patch fixes the problem by using BIT(0) as als_mode_active for
the ltr559 chip.

The regmap is configured for 8 bit registers, uses a RB-Tree cache and
marks several registers as volatile (i.e. do not cache).
The ALS and PS data registers in the chip are 16 bit wide and spans
two regmap registers. In the current driver only the base register is
marked as volatile, resulting in the upper register only read once.
Further the data sheet notes:
| When the I2C read operation starts, all four ALS data registers are
| locked until the I2C read operation of register 0x8B is completed.
Which results in the registers never update after the 2nd read.
This patch fixes the problem by marking the upper 8 bits of the ALS
and PS registers as volatile, too.

Fixes tag is not strictly accurate as prior to that patch there was
