I assume this device is only used on architectures where a 8 byte
integer type is always 8 byte aligned. However, I would prefer IIO
drivers to never make that assumption as the code gets copied into
new drivers which are not so tightly couple to one driver and those
can run on architectures that align these types to only 4 bytes in which
case this structure may be 4 byte to small leading to a buffer overrun.

The ad_sigma_delta driver helper uses irq_disable_nosync(). With that
one it is possible that the irq handler still runs after the
irq_disable_nosync() function call returns. Also to properly synchronize
irq disabling in the different threads proper locking is needed and
because it's unclear if the irq handler's irq_disable_nosync() call
comes first or the one in the enabler's error path, all code locations
that disable the irq must check for .irq_dis first to ensure there is
exactly one disable call per enable call.
So add a spinlock to the struct ad_sigma_delta and use it to synchronize
irq enabling and disabling. Also only act in the irq handler if the irq
is still enabled.

Some of the ADCs by Analog signal their irq condition on the MISO line.
So typically that line is connected to an SPI controller and a GPIO. The
GPIO is used as input and the respective interrupt is enabled when the
last SPI transfer is completed.
Depending on the GPIO controller the toggling MISO line might make the
interrupt pending even while it's masked. In that case the irq handler
is called immediately after irq_enable() and so before the device
actually pulls that line low which results in non-sense values being
reported to the upper layers.
The only way to find out if the line was actually pulled low is to read
the GPIO. (There is a flag in AD7124's status register that also signals
if an interrupt was asserted, but reading that register toggles the MISO
line and so might trigger another spurious interrupt.)
Add the possibility to specify an interrupt GPIO in the machine
description in addition to the plain interrupt. This GPIO is used then
to check if the irq line is actually active in the irq handler.

The ADC IP available on the RZ/G3S differs slightly from the one found on
the RZ/G2L. The identified differences are as follows:
- different number of channels (one being used for temperature conversion);
consequently, various registers differ
- different default sampling periods
- the RZ/G3S variant lacks the ADVIC register.
To accommodate these differences, the rzg2l_adc driver has been updated by
introducing the struct rzg2l_adc_hw_params, which encapsulates the
hardware-specific differences between the IP variants. A pointer to an
object of type struct rzg2l_adc_hw_params is embedded in
struct rzg2l_adc_data.
Additionally, the completion member of struct rzg2l_adc_data was relocated
to avoid potential padding, if any.
The code has been adjusted to utilize hardware-specific parameters stored
in the new structure instead of relying on plain macros.
The check of chan->channel in rzg2l_adc_read_raw() function, against the
driver specific mask was removed as the subsystem should have already
been done this before reaching the rzg2l_adc_read_raw() function. Along
with it the local variable ch was dropped as chan->channel could be used
instead.

Use another struct iio_info instead to actually reflect the intent
described in the commit message. This way, the structure to use is selected
at runtime and they can be kept as const.
This is safer because modifying static structs that are shared between all

Fix a possible race condition during driver probe in the ad7173 driver
due to using a shared static info struct. If more that one instance of
the driver is probed at the same time, some of the info could be
overwritten by the other instance, leading to incorrect operation.
To fix this, make the static info struct const so that it is read-only
and make a copy of the info struct for each instance of the driver that
can be modified.

Modify ad4695_buffer_preenable() by adding an extra SPI transfer after
each data read to help ensure that the timing requirement between the
last SCLK rising edge and the next CNV rising edge is met. This requires
a restructure of the buf_read_xfer array in ad4695_state. Also define
AD4695_T_SCK_CNV_DELAY_NS to use for each added transfer. Without this
change it is possible for the data to become corrupted on sequential
buffered reads due to the device not properly exiting conversion mode.
Similarly, make adjustments to ad4695_read_one_sample() so that timings
are respected, and clean up the function slightly in the process.

When during a measurement two channels are enabled, two measurements are
done that are reported sequencially in the DATA register. As the code
triggered by reading one of the sysfs properties expects that only one
channel is enabled it only reads the first data set which might or might
not belong to the intended channel.
To prevent this situation disable all channels during probe. This fixes
a problem in practise because the reset default for channel 0 is
enabled. So all measurements before the first measurement on channel 0
(which disables channel 0 at the end) might report wrong values.

Alongside new drivers and device support there are several large
cleanups going on across the IIO tree and we see part of some of those
in this pull request.
Merged char-misc-next at point of 6.12-rc6 merge to avoid a
conflict with a fix for the ad7380 merged earlier this cycle.
Note that I previously messed this merge up and had to reconstruct
it this morning so a coherent pull request was possible. The new
stuff is all the same as has been in linux-next for some time with
the exception of the kernel-doc related __private ordering fix
that went in yesterday.
New device support
==================
adi,ad7380
- Support for adaq4370-4 and adaq4370 quad channel ADCs.
adi,ad7606
- Various cleanups preceeding support of AD7607, AD7608 and AD7609 ADCs.
adi,ad7779
- New driver supproting AD7770, AD7771 and AD7779 ADCs.
allegro,als31300

enabling much higher speed data capture.
bosch,bme680
- Support control of preheat current
- Support triggered buffer capture

Note that not all drivers are yet fixed, but macros have been added
to avoid potential repeats of this in future.
- Tidy up handling in iio_read_acpi_mount matrix.
- Mark iio_dev::priv with __private. Later move the marking before the

- Add an iio_get_acpi_device_name_and_data() handler to replace some
commonly repeated code.
- simplify use of 'state' in write_event_config() callback as it is
effectively a boolean. Once done make it a boolean (lots of drivers
were updated to enable this)

open coded versions. Where this enables it convert all of remove
handling to devm based and drop the remove callback.

accel drivers
- Use aligned_s64 instead of s64 __aligned(8)
adi,ad5791
- Add some missing GPIOs and power supplies that presumably were always
hard wired on previous boards.
- Refactor to use chip_info in device id tables.
- Convert probe entirely to devm based simplify code and allowing remove()
callback to be dropped.
adi,ad7192
- Check return from spi_get_device_match_data()
adi,ad74413r
- Don't keep an unnecessary copy of the gpio after probe.
- Use devm_regulator_get_enable_read_voltage() instead of open coding.
- Apply cleanup.h approach to reduce complexity.
adi,dac8460
- Fix a wrong compaitble ID due to a stray space.
- Add an spi_device_id table.
bosch,bmc150

- Reduce excessive sleep on startup.
- Drop some cammelcase usage.
- Use fsleep
- Generalize read functions to allow for reuse.
- Use s16 variable to avoid some incorrect casting
bosch,bmg150
- Drop some likely false ACPI IDs.
bosch,bmi270
- Drop unused FREQUENCY and SCALE attributes that always returned an
error (they wil be back impelmented correctly).
- Factor out the chip specific data into a structure to enable simple
support for additional devices.
isil,isl29018
- Drop ACPI_PTR() and CONFIG_ACPI guards as not worth the trouble for very
minor saving.
invensense,mpu6050
- Use much simpler test for ACPI firmware.
kionix,kxcjk-1013
- Drop unnecessary ACPI entry in the i2c_device_id table.
- Drop support KX022-1020 to fix a bug that was introduced with that change.
Hopefully a fixed version will replace it soon.
- Drop CONFIG guards for PM in favor of pm_ptr() and the compiler removing
dead code.
- Switch from enum to chip_info structure and add ODR times to that structure.
- Deduplicate one of those ODR structures
- Drop ACPI_PTR() and move ID table out of config guards.
- Minor additional cleanup.
liteon,ltr401
- Drop some likely false ACPI Ids and add LTER0303 which is know to be in use.
microchip,pac1934
- Use much simpler test for ACPI firmware.

The formula in the datasheet for oversampling time conversion seems to
be valid when device is at full speed using the maximum number of SDO
lines. The driver currently support only 1 SDO line. The correct formula
is: t_convert = T_CONVERT_0_NS + T_CONVERT_X_NS*(x -
1)*num_channel/number_of_sdo_lines.
It will produce larger delays than what is currently set, but some devices
actually require it.

The IIO_DIFF_EVENT_CODE macro helper was introduced to provide a more
specific alternative to the generic IIO_EVENT_CODE macro for handling
differential channels. This commit updates the code to use
IIO_DIFF_EVENT_CODE for better clarity and maintainability.
However, the current implementation incorrectly sets both chan1 and
chan2 to 0. To maintain compatibility and avoid breaking existing
user space applications, this behavior is preserved for now.

The AD7607, AD7608 and AD7609 are some older parts of the AD7606 family.
They are hardware-only, meaning that they don't have any registers
accessible via SPI or Parallel interface.
They are more similar to the AD7605-4 part, which is supported by the
'ad7606' driver, and are configurable via GPIOs.
Like the AD7605-4 part, all 3 parts have 2 CONVST (Conversion Start) pins
(CONVST A and CONVST B). But in practice, these should be tied together to
make reading of samples easier via a serial line.
The AD7607 has an 14-bit resolution and AD7608 & AD7609 have an 18-bit
resolution. The main difference between the AD7608 & AD7609 is that the
AD7609 has a larger range (±10V & ±20V) vs the ±5V & ±10V ranges for AD7608.
However, unlike AD7605-4 part, these 3 parts have oversampling which is
configurable (like for the AD7606 in HW-mode) via GPIOs.

The main driver for this change is the AD7607 part, which has a scale of
"1.220703" for the ±10V range. The AD7607 has a resolution of 14-bits.
So, just adding the scale-available list for that part would require some
quirks to handle just that scale value.
But to do it more neatly, the best approach is to rework the scale
available lists to have the same format as it is returned to userspace.
That way, we can also get rid of the allocation for the 'scale_avail_show'
array.

When the mutexes were reworked to guards, the caching of the
oversampling_ratio values was removed by accident.
The main effect of this change is that, after setting the
oversampling_ratio value, reading it back would result in the initial value

The value would get sent to the device correctly though.

Until now, the conversion were triggered by setting high the GPIO
connected to the convst pin. This commit gives the possibility to
connect the convst pin to a PWM.
Connecting a PWM allows to have a better control on the samplerate,
but it must be handled with care, as it is completely decorrelated of
the driver's busy pin handling.
Hence it is not recommended to be used "as is" but must be exploited
in conjunction with IIO backend, and for now only a mock functionality
is enabled, i.e PWM never swings, but is used as a GPIO, i.e duty_cycle
== period equals high state, duty_cycle == 0 equals low state.
This mock functionality will be disabled after the IIO backend usecase
is introduced.

Convert all platform drivers below drivers/iio/ to use .remove(), with
the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As
.remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done
by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer.
While touching these files, make indention of the struct initializer
consistent in several files.

The AD7606C-16 and AD7606C-18 are pretty similar with the AD7606B.
The main difference between AD7606C-16 & AD7606C-18 is the precision in
bits (16 vs 18).
Because of that, some scales need to be defined for the 18-bit variants, as
they need to be computed against 2**18 (vs 2**16 for the 16 bit-variants).
Because the AD7606C-16,18 also supports bipolar & differential channels,
for SW-mode, the default range of 10 V or ±10V should be set at probe.
On reset, the default range (in the registers) is set to value 0x3 which
corresponds to '±10 V single-ended range', regardless of bipolar or
differential configuration.
Aside from the scale/ranges, the AD7606C-16 is similar to the AD7606B.
The AD7606C-18 variant offers 18-bit precision. Because of this, the
requirement to use this chip is that the SPI controller supports padding
of 18-bit sequences to 32-bit arrays.

For SW mode, the oversampling and scales attributes are always present.
So, they can be implemented via a 'read_avail' hook in iio_info.
For HW mode, it's a bit tricky, as these attributes get assigned based on
GPIO definitions.
So, for SW mode, we define a separate AD7606_SW_CHANNEL() macro, and use
that for the SW channels.
And 'ad7606_info_os_range_and_debug' can be renamed to
'ad7606_info_sw_mode' as it is only used for SW mode.
For the 'read_avail' hook, we'll need to allocate the SW scales, so that
they are just returned userspace without any extra processing.
The allocation will happen when then ad7606_state struct is allocated.
The oversampling available parameters don't need any extra processing; they
can just be passed back to userspace (as they are).

With the addition of AD7606C-16,18 which have differential & bipolar
channels (and ranges), which can vary from channel to channel, we'll need
to keep more information about each channel range.
To do that, we'll add a 'struct ad7606_chan_scale' type to hold just
configuration for each channel.
This includes the scales per channel (which can be different with
AD7606C-16,18), as well as the range for each channel.
This driver was already keeping the range value for each channel before,
and since this is couple with the scales, it also makes sense to put them
in the same struct.

Up until now, all ADCs were 16-bit precision.
With the addition of the AD7606C some things will change. For one thing,
we'll need to setup available-scales for each channel. Also for the 18-bit
precision variants, the scales will be different.
This change adds a function-pointer to the chip-info struct to be able to
set this up (differently) for the new parts. For the current parts, the
scales are the same (for all parts) between HW and SW modes.
Also creating a 'ad7606_sw_mode_setup()' function that must be called
before the scale_setup callback. This is needed in case SW mode is enabled
for some ADCs.

The ad7606_scan_direct() function returns 'int', which is fine for 16-bit
samples.
But when going to 18-bit samples, these need to be implemented as 32-bit
(or int) type.
In that case when getting samples (which can be negative), we'd get random
error codes.
So, the easiest thing is to just move the 'val' pointer to
'ad7606_scan_direct()'. This doesn't qualify as a fix, it's just a
preparation for 18-bit ADCs (of the AD7606 family).

There are not kernel wide rules for these, but for IIO the style
that I prefer (and hence most common) is:

- No comma after terminator { }
This may cause merge conflicts but they should be trivial to resolve
hence I have not broken this into per driver patches.

when the binding was converted to schema. As a result, they are listed
as undocumented when running "make dt_compatible_check". Rather than add

Furthermore, they are unnecessary as the SPI matching will strip the

Add scaling support to STM32 DFSDM.
When used in an analog context, a DFSDM filter typically converts the data
from a sigma delta modulator. The IIO device associated to the DFSDM
filter provides these data as raw data.
The IIO device can provide scaling information (voltage and offset) to
allow conversion of raw data into physical values.
With the new binding based on IIO backend framework, the sigma delta
modulators are defined as backends providing scaling information.
The scaling is not supported with legacy binding.

The legacy sd modulator driver registers the sigma delta modulator as
an IIO channel provider. This implementation is not convenient when the
SD modulator has to be cascaded with another IIO device. The scaling
information is distributed across devices, which makes it difficult to
report consistent scaling data on IIO devices.
The solution is to expose these cascaded IIO devices as an aggregate
device, which report global scaling information.

During setup the st->adc_control is 0, which corresponds to a continuous
conversion mode. The reset value for channel 1 is to enable it. The
combined effect of these two is that the ADC will start conversions for
channel 1 without them being read.
This is not neccessarily a problem, but it is an unexpected behavior.
Set the ADC state to idle during setup to avoid this.

The ad7124_find_similar_live_cfg() computes the compare size by
substracting the address of the cfg struct from the address of the live

Also, the memcmp() call is made from the start of the cfg struct, which
includes the live and cfg_slot fields, which are not relevant for the

One useful thing to do (in case of problems) in this high speed devices
with digital interfaces is to try different test patterns to see if the
interface is working properly (and properly calibrated). Hence add this
to debugfs.
On top of this, for some test patterns, the backend may have a matching
validator block which can be helpful in identifying possible issues. For
the other patterns some test equipment must be used so one can look into
the signal and see how it looks like.
Hence, we also add the backend debugfs interface with

ad7386/7/8(-4) single-ended parts have a 2:1 mux in front of each ADC.
>From an IIO point of view, all inputs are exported, i.e ad7386/7/8
export 4 channels and ad7386-4/7-4/8-4 export 8 channels. First inputs
of muxes correspond to the first half of IIO channels (i.e 0-1 or 0-3)
and second inputs correspond to second half (i.e 2-3 or 4-7)
Currently, the driver supports only sampling first half OR second half of
the IIO channels. To enable sampling all channels simultaneously, these
parts have an internal sequencer that automatically cycles through the
mux entries.
When enabled, the maximum throughput is divided by two. Moreover, the ADCs
need additional settling time, so we add an extra CS toggle to correctly
propagate setting, and an additional spi transfer to read the second
half.

Adding ad7386/7/8 (16/14/12 bits) unsigned, dual simultaneous sampling,
single-ended compatible parts, and the corresponding ad7386-4/7-4/8-4
4 channels.
These parts have a 2:1 multiplexer in front of each ADC. They also include
additional configuration registers that allow for either manual selection
or automatic switching (sequencer mode), of the multiplexer inputs.
This commit focus on integrating manual selection. Sequencer mode will
be implemented later.
>From an IIO point of view, all inputs are exported, i.e ad7386/7/8
export 4 channels and ad7386-4/7-4/8-4 export 8 channels.
Inputs AinX0 of multiplexers correspond to the first half of IIO channels
(i.e 0-1 or 0-3) and inputs AinX1 correspond to second half (i.e 2-3 or
4-7). Example for AD7386/7/8 (2 channels parts):
IIO | AD7386/7/8
| +----------------------------
| | _____ ______
| | | | | |
voltage0 | AinA0 --|--->| | | |
| | | mux |----->| ADCA |---
voltage2 | AinA1 --|--->| | | |
| | |_____| |_____ |
| | _____ ______
| | | | | |
voltage1 | AinB0 --|--->| | | |
| | | mux |----->| ADCB |---
voltage3 | AinB1 --|--->| | | |
| | |_____| |______|
| |
| +----------------------------
When switching channel, the ADC require an additional settling time.
According to the datasheet, data is valid on the third CS low. We already
have an extra toggle before each read (either direct reads or buffered
reads) to sample correct data, so we just add a single CS toggle at the
end of the register write.

The current implementation attempts to recover from an eventual glitch
in the clock by checking frstdata state after reading the first
channel's sample: If frstdata is low, it will reset the chip and
return -EIO.
This will only work in parallel mode, where frstdata pin is set low
after the 2nd sample read starts.
For the serial mode, according to the datasheet, "The FRSTDATA output
returns to a logic low following the 16th SCLK falling edge.", thus
after the Xth pulse, X being the number of bits in a sample, the check
will always be true, and the driver will not work at all in serial
mode if frstdata(optional) is defined in the devicetree as it will
reset the chip, and return -EIO every time read_sample is called.
Hence, this check must be removed for serial mode.

gpiod_set_array_value was misused here: the implementation relied on the
assumption that an unsigned long was required for each gpio, while the
function expects a bit array stored in "as much unsigned long as needed
for storing one bit per GPIO", i.e it is using a bit field.
This leaded to incorrect parameter passed to gpiod_set_array_value, that
would set 1 value instead of 3.
It also prevents to select the software mode correctly for the AD7606B.

If there's only one possible scale, there's no way to change the Vref
select in the device so avoid reading the register in ad9467_get_scale().
In this case, it makes no sense to provide the .read_available()
callback nor allowing for writing the scale attribute.
Note this is in preparation for supporting a new device that only has
one possible scale.

The calibration process mixes the support for calibrating multiple
channels with only having one channel. Some paths do have 'num_channels'
into account while others don't.
As of now, the driver only supports devices with one channel so the
above is not really a problem. That said, we'll add support for devices
with more than one channel, hence let's properly make the calibration
process to work with it.

The of_property_for_each_u32() macro needs five parameters, two of which
are primarily meant as internal variables for the macro itself (in the
for() clause). Yet these two parameters are used by a few drivers, and this
can be considered misuse or at least bad practice.
Now that the kernel uses C11 to build, these two parameters can be avoided
by declaring them internally, thus changing this pattern:
struct property *prop;
const __be32 *p;
u32 val;
of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", prop, p, val) { ... }
to this:
u32 val;
of_property_for_each_u32(np, "xyz", val) { ... }
However two variables cannot be declared in the for clause even with C11,
so declare one struct that contain the two variables we actually need. As
the variables inside this struct are not meant to be used by users of this
macro, give the struct instance the noticeable name "_it" so it is visible
during code reviews, helping to avoid new code to use it directly.
Most usages are trivially converted as they do not use those two
parameters, as expected. The non-trivial cases are:
- drivers/clk/clk.c, of_clk_get_parent_name(): easily doable anyway
- drivers/clk/clk-si5351.c, si5351_dt_parse(): this is more complex as the
checks had to be replicated in a different way, making code more verbose
and somewhat uglier, but I refrained from a full rework to keep as much
of the original code untouched having no hardware to test my changes
All the changes have been build tested. The few for which I have the
hardware have been runtime-tested too.

Label all the channels using names from the reference manual. Some of
the "control" channels are duplicates of other channels. The reference
manual describes it like:
> The AMS register set includes several measurement registers that are
> written to by the PS SYSMON unit using the single-channel mode
> (sequencer off). These voltage measurements are performed using the
> unipolar sampling circuit with a 0 to 3V range and do not have alarms

So I think these really are measuring the same voltages but in a
different location. In which case, sharing labels makes sense to me.

The ADS1119 is a precision, 16-bit, analog-to-digital converter (ADC)
that features two differential or four single-ended inputs through a
flexible input multiplexer (MUX), rail-to-rail input
buffers, a programmable gain stage, a voltage reference, and an
oscillator.
Apart from normal single conversion, the driver also supports

Add support for AD4111/AD4112/AD4114/AD4115/AD4116.
The AD411X family encompasses a series of low power, low noise, 24-bit,
sigma-delta analog-to-digital converters that offer a versatile range of
specifications.
This family of ADCs integrates an analog front end suitable for processing
both fully differential and single-ended, bipolar voltage inputs
addressing a wide array of industrial and instrumentation requirements.
- All ADCs have inputs with a precision voltage divider with a division
ratio of 10.
- AD4116 has 5 low level inputs without a voltage divider.
- AD4111 and AD4112 support current inputs (0 mA to 20 mA) using a 50ohm
shunt resistor.

The current error handling for calls such as devm_clk_get_enabled() in
the adi-axi-adc probe() function means that, if a property such as
'clocks' (for example) is not present in the devicetree when booting a

ams_enable_channel_sequence constructs a "scan_mask" for all the PS and
PL channels. This works out fine, since scan_index for these channels is
less than 64. However, it also includes the ams_ctrl_channels, where
scan_index is greater than 64, triggering undefined behavior. Since we

ad7380x(-4) parts are able to do oversampling to increase accuracy.
This chips supports a normal oversampling mode and a rolling mode and
also allows enabling and disabling extra resolution bits when
oversampling is enabled.
We have intentionally left out the rolling mode for now as there is not
a compelling use case for it. User can process a captured data buffer
to get the same effect.
We are also currently not supporting changing the oversampling mode
independently of the resolution bits. The resolution boost feature
can only be enabled when oversampling is enabled and oversampling is
not as useful without the resolution boost. So for now we consider the
features tightly coupled. When oversampling is enabled, the resolution
boost is enabled and when oversampling is disabled, the resolution
boost is disabled.
Since the resolution boost feature causes 16-bit chips to now have
18-bit data which means the storagebits has to change from 16 to 32
bits, we use the new ext_scan_type feature to allow changing the
scan_type at runtime based on if the resolution boost is enabled or
not.
SPI message optimization has to be moved since now some of the xfer
parameters change based on the resolution boost mode.
A few neighboring comments are also fixed up while we are touching this
code.

This changes the AD7380 to use spi_optimize_message() to optimize
buffered reads.
This changes both direct reads and buffered reads to use the same
spi_message. This has some (welcome) side effects. The first is that
in buffered reads, the timestamp will now correspond to the same sample
rather than the previous sample. The second is that direct reads now
use the same SPI bus speed as buffered reads.
This reduces CPU usage of the IRQ thread from around 25% to around 20%
when sampling at 10 kHz on a ZedBoard.

This patch fixes two issues regarding the sampling frequency setting:
-The attribute was set as per device, not per channel. As such, when
setting the sampling frequency, the configuration was always done for
the slot 0, and the correct configuration was applied on the next
channel configuration call by the LRU mechanism.
-The LRU implementation does not take into account external settings of
the slot registers. When setting the sampling frequency directly to a
slot register in write_raw(), there is no guarantee that other channels
were not also using that slot and now incorrectly retain their config
as live.
Set the sampling frequency attribute as separate in the channel templates.
Do not set the sampling directly to the slot register in write_raw(),
just mark the config as not live and let the LRU mechanism handle it.
As the reg variable is no longer used, remove it.

To make sure that we have the best timings on the serial data interface
we should calibrate it. This means going through the device supported
values and see for which ones we get a successful result. To do that, we
use a prbs test pattern both in the IIO backend and in the frontend
devices. Then for each of the test points we see if there are any
errors. Note that the backend is responsible to look for those errors.
As calibrating the interface also requires that the data format is disabled
(the one thing being done in ad9467_setup()), ad9467_setup() was removed

The helper functions wrapping spi_sync() for 3-wire and 4-wire modes are
virtually identical. Since gpiod_set_value_cansleep() does a NULL check
internally, we can consolidate the two functions into one and avoid
switch statements at the call sites.

This adds support for AD7944 ADCs wired in "3-wire mode". (NOTE: 3-wire
is the datasheet name for this wiring configuration and has nothing to
do with SPI_3WIRE.)
In the 3-wire mode, the SPI controller CS line can be wired to the CNV
line on the ADC and used to trigger conversions rather that using a
separate GPIO line.
The turbo/chain mode compatibility check at the end of the probe
function is technically can't be triggered right now but adding it now
anyway so that we don't forget to add it later when support for

This release sees some exciting changes from David Lechner which
implements some optimisations that have been talked about for a long
time which allows client drivers to pre-prepare SPI messages for
repeated or low latency use. This lets us move work out of latency
sensitive paths and avoid repeating work for frequently performed
operations. As well as being useful in itself this will also be used in
future to allow controllers to directly trigger SPI operations (eg, from
interrupts).
Otherwise this release has mostly been focused on cleanups, plus a
couple of new devices:
- Support for pre-optimising messages.
- A big set of updates from Uwe Kleine-König moving drivers to use APIs
with more modern terminology for controllers.
- Major overhaul of the s3c64xx driver.
- Support for Google GS101 and Samsung Exynos850.

Some of the registers on the SARADCv2 have bits write protected except
if another bit is set. This is usually done by having the lowest 16 bits
store the data to write and the highest 16 bits specify which of the 16
lowest bits should have their value written to the hardware block.
The write_enable mask for the channel selection was incorrect because it
was just the value shifted by 16 bits, which means it would only ever
write bits and never clear them. So e.g. if someone starts a conversion
on channel 5, the lowest 4 bits would be 0x5, then starts a conversion
on channel 0, it would still be 5.
Instead of shifting the value by 16 as the mask, let's use the OR'ing of
the appropriate masks shifted by 16.
Note that this is not an issue currently because the only SARADCv2
currently supported has a reset defined in its Device Tree, that reset
resets the SARADC controller before starting a conversion on a channel.
However, this reset is handled as optional by the probe function and
thus proper masking should be used in the event an SARADCv2 without a
reset ever makes it upstream.
