3e566bee7f i2c: imx: remove duplicate print after platform_get_irq()
We don't need dev_err() message because when something goes wrong,
platform_get_irq() has print an error message itself, so we should
remove duplicate dev_err().

3a5ee18d2a i2c: imx: implement master_xfer_atomic callback
Rework the read and write code paths in the driver to support operation
in atomic contexts. To achieve this, the driver must not rely on IRQs
and not call schedule(), e.g. via a sleep routine, in these cases.

With this patch the driver supports normal operation, DMA transfers and
now the polling mode or also called sleep-free or IRQ-less operation. It
makes the code not simpler or easier to read, but atomic I2C transfers
are needed on some hardware configurations, e.g. to trigger reboots on
an external PMIC chip.

This endless clk warnings behaviour is well explained by Andrey Smirnov:

"Allocating DMA after registering I2C adapter can lead to infinite
probing loop, for example, consider the following scenario:

    1. i2c_imx_probe() is called and successfully registers an I2C
       adapter via i2c_add_numbered_adapter()

    2. As a part of i2c_add_numbered_adapter() new I2C slave devices
are added from DT which results in a call to
       driver_deferred_probe_trigger()

    3. i2c_imx_probe() continues and calls i2c_imx_dma_request() which
due to lack of proper DMA driver returns -EPROBE_DEFER

    4. i2c_imx_probe() fails, removes I2C adapter and returns
-EPROBE_DEFER, which places it into deferred probe list

    5. Deferred probe work triggered in #2 above kicks in and calls
i2c_imx_probe() again thus bringing us to step #1"

So revert commit e1ab9a468e ("i2c: imx: improve the error handling in
i2c_imx_dma_request()") and restore the old behaviour, in order to
avoid regressions on existing setups.

and there can only be a single user. So in this case there should be no

emitted at debug level before should be described at a higher level
to be better visible and so understandable.

99cc7ad46b Merge branch 'i2c/for-4.19' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/wsa/linux
Pull i2c updates from Wolfram Sang:

 - the core has now a lockless variant of i2c_smbus_xfer. Some open
coded versions of this got removed in drivers. This also enables
   proper SCCB support in regmap.

 - locking got a more precise naming. i2c_{un}lock_adapter() had to go,
and we know use i2c_lock_bus() consistently with flags like
I2C_LOCK_ROOT_ADAPTER and I2C_LOCK_SEGMENT to avoid ambiguity.

 - the gpio fault injector got a new delicate testcase

 - the bus recovery procedure got fixed to handle the new testcase
   correctly

 - a new quirk flag for controllers not able to handle zero length
messages together with driver updates to use it

 - new drivers: FSI bus attached I2C masters, GENI I2C controller, Owl
   family S900

 - and a good set of driver improvements and bugfixes

fd8961c5ba i2c: imx: make bus recovery through pinctrl optional
Since commit 1c4b6c3bcf ("i2c: imx: implement bus recovery") the
driver starts to use gpio/pinctrl to support optional bus recovery
feature. But pinctrl is not always usable. There are platforms such
as ls1021a and ls1043a that don't support pinctrl, and it could just
be broken due to old/broken device tree. The patch makes it really
optional that the probe function won't bailout on pinctrl problems
instead it just disables bus recovery and prints out notification when
there is problem with pinctrl. Since pinctrl is only used by bus
recovery in this driver, move pinctrl initialization into bus recovery
init function to prevent confusion.

588eb93ea4 i2c: imx: add runtime pm support to improve the performance
In our former i2c driver, i2c clk is enabled and disabled in
xfer function, which contributes to power saving. However,
the clk enable process brings a busy wait delay until the core
is stable. As a result, the performance is sacrificed.

To weigh the power consumption and i2c bus performance, runtime
pm is the good solution for it. The clk is enabled when a i2c
transfer starts, and disabled after a specifically defined delay.

If CONFIG_PM is disabled the net result of this patch is that the
clock is never disabled.

Without the patch the test case (many eeprom reads) executes with approx:
real 1m7.735s

With the patch the same test case (many eeprom reads) executes with approx:

a5f650182b i2c: imx: init bus recovery info before adding i2c adapter
During driver probe, i2c_imx_init_recovery_info() must come before
i2c_add_numbered_adapter(), because the get/set_scl() functions
are assigned in i2c_register_adapter() under the conditon that bus
recover_info are initialized. Otherwise, get/set_scl() function
pointers never get assigned.

In such case, when i2c_generic_gpio_recovery() is used for bus recovery,
there will be kernel crash because bri->set_scl is NULL.

The solution to this bug is moving i2c_imx_init_recovery_info() before

e6b5be2be4 Driver core patches for 3.19-rc1
Here's the set of driver core patches for 3.19-rc1.

They are dominated by the removal of the .owner field in platform
drivers. They touch a lot of files, but they are "simple" changes, just
removing a line in a structure.

Other than that, a few minor driver core and debugfs changes. There are
some ath9k patches coming in through this tree that have been acked by
the wireless maintainers as they relied on the debugfs changes.

Everything has been in linux-next for a while.

639a26cf07 i2c: imx: Add arbitration lost check
According to the i.mx spec, for multimaster mode, if I2C is
enabled when the bus is busy and asserts start, hardware inhibits
the transmission, clears MSTA without signaling a stop, generate
an interrupt, and set I2C_I2SR[IAL] to indicate a failed attempt
to engage the bus, which means arbitration lost. In this case,
we should first test I2C_I2SR[IAL], and clear this bit if it is

This patch check the IAL bit every time before an I2c transmission.

9b2a6da33c i2c: imx: update i2c clock divider for each transaction
Since IMX serial SOCs support low bus freq mode, some clocks freq
may change to save power. I2C needs to check the clock source and
update the divider.

For example:
i.MX6SL I2C clk is from IPG_PERCLK which is sourced from IPG_CLK.
Under normal operation, IPG_CLK is 66MHz, ipg_perclk is at 22MHz.
In low bus freq mode, IPG_CLK is at 12MHz and IPG_PERCLK is down
to 4MHz. So the I2C driver must update the divider register for
each transaction when the current IPG_PERCLK is not equal to the
clock of previous transaction.

054b62d9f2 i2c: imx: fix the i2c bus hang issue when do repeat restart
Test i2c device Maxim max44009, datasheet is located at:
http://www.maximintegrated.com/datasheet/index.mvp/id/7175

The max44009 support repeat operation like:
read -> repeat restart -> read/write

The current i2c imx host controller driver don't support this
operation that causes i2c bus hang due to "MTX" is cleared in
.i2c_imx_read(). If "read" is the last message there have no problem,
so the current driver supports all SMbus operation like:
write -> repeat restart -> read/write

IMX i2c controller for master receiver has some limitation:
- If it is the last byte for one operation, it must generate STOP
signal before read I2DR to prevent controller from generating another
  clock cycle.
- If it is the last byte in the read, and then do repeat restart, it must
set "MTX" before read I2DR to prevent controller from generating another
  extra clock cycle.

The patch is to fix the issue.

55827f4aa6 i2c: Remove unneeded xxx_set_drvdata(..., NULL) calls
There is simply no reason to be manually setting the private driver
data to NULL in the remove/fail to probe cases. This is just extra
cruft code that can be removed.

A few notes:
* Nothing relies on drvdata being set to NULL.
* The __device_release_driver() function eventually calls
dev_set_drvdata(dev, NULL) anyway, so there's no need to do it
  twice.
* I verified that there were no cases where xxx_get_drvdata() was
being called in these drivers and checking for / relying on the NULL
  return value.

This could be cleaned up kernel-wide but for now just take the baby
step and remove from the i2c subsystem.

12250d843e Merge branch 'i2c-embedded/for-next' of git://git.pengutronix.de/git/wsa/linux
Pull i2c-embedded changes from Wolfram Sang:
 "The changes for i2c-embedded include:

   - massive rework of the omap driver
   - massive rework of the at91 driver. In fact, the old driver gets
removed; I am okay with this approach since the old driver was
depending on BROKEN and its limitations made it practically
unusable, so people used bitbanging instead. But even if there are
users, there is no platform_data or module parameter which would
need to be converted. It is just another driver doing I2C
transfers, just way better. Modifications of arch/arm/at91 related
files have proper acks from the maintainer.
   - new driver for R-Car I2C
   - devicetree and generic_clock conversions and fixes
   - usual driver fixes and changes.

The rework patches have come a long way and lots of people have been
involved in creating/testing them. Most patches have been in
linux-next at least since 3.6-rc5. A few have been added in the last
  week, I have to admit.

An unexpected (but welcome :)) peak in private life is the cause for
that. The "late" patches shouldn't cause any merge conflicts and I
will have a special eye on them during the stabilization phase. This
is an exception and I want to have the patches in place properly in
time again for the next kernels."

ae32adc1e0 Merge branch 'i2c-embedded/for-next' of git://git.pengutronix.de/git/wsa/linux
Pull i2c-embedded changes from Wolfram Sang:
 "Major changes:

   - lots of devicetree additions for existing drivers. I tried hard to
make sure the bindings are proper. In more complicated cases, I
requested acks from people having more experience with them than
me. That took a bit of extra time and also some time went into
discussions with developers about what bindings are and what not.
I have the feeling that the workflow with bindings should be
improved to scale better. I will spend some more thought on
     this...

   - i2c-muxes are succesfully used meanwhile, so we dropped
EXPERIMENTAL for them and renamed the drivers to a standard pattern
to match the rest of the subsystem. They can also be used with
     devicetree now.

   - ixp2000 was removed since the whole platform goes away.

   - cleanups (strlcpy instead of strcpy, NULL instead of 0)

   - The rest is typical driver fixes I assume.

All patches have been in linux-next at least since v3.4-rc6."

Fixed up trivial conflict in arch/arm/mach-lpc32xx/common.c due to the
same patch already having come in through the arm/soc trees, with
additional patches on top of it.

bb79a0798d i2c: imx: fix imx driver to work though signal is pending
Interrupt a test application for I2C based mc13xxx driven
touch panel, SIGINT, causes open event file descriptor to be
closed, which in turn causes I2C activity to mask PMIC local
interrupts. This eventually ends up in i2c_imx_bus_busy to
wait for some busy flag to toggle, but while waiting it would
find a signal pending and break. The final symptom is the
device is not closed down cleanly and thus not reopenable.

Do without check for pending signal.
