f60f8705fc drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: s/armh/asyh/ in nv50_msto_atomic_enable()
I have a strange dejavu feeling that I tried to submit a patch for this in
the past, but that it was rejected. I can't remember though, but I'm
further convinced this patch is the right thing to do anyway.

We label the to-be-committed head state in nv50_msto_atomic_enable() as
armh. Normally armh implies a state which is currently armed in hardware.
nv50_msto_atomic_enable() is called _after_ drm_atomic_swap_state()
however, but before the commit tail ends, which means that said state is
not actually armed on hardware.

As well - take note that this is the same convention followed in all of the
other atomic_enable() callbacks.

So, let's correct this to asyh.

f575f2bdb6 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Remove (nv_encoder->crtc) checks in ->disable callbacks
Noticed these in both the disable (which we'll be getting rid of in a
moment) and the atomic disable callbacks: both callback types check whether
or not there's actually a CRTC assigned to the given encoder. However, as
->atomic_disable and ->disable will never be called without a CRTC assigned
to the given encoder there's no point in this check. So just remove it.

4a05a223e7 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Don't call HEAD_SET_CRC_CONTROL in head907d_mode()
This was a mistake that was present before, but never got noticed until
we converted over to using nvidia's class headers for display
programming. Luckily though it never caused any problems, since we
always end up calling crc907d_set_src() after head907d_mode().

So, let's get rid of this.

ba839b7598 drm/nouveau/kms/gk104-gp1xx: Fix > 64x64 cursors
While we do handle the additional cursor sizes introduced in NVE4, it looks
like we accidentally broke this when converting over to use Nvidia's
display headers. Since we now use NVVAL in dispnv50/head907d.c in order to
format the value for the cursor layout and NVD9 only had one byte reserved
vs. the 2 bytes reserved in later generations, we end up accidentally
stripping the second bit in the cursor layout format parameter - causing us
to set the wrong cursor size.

This fixes that by adding our own curs_set hook for 917d which uses the
NV917D headers.

fd55b61ebd drm/nouveau/dispnv50: Restore pushing of all data.
Commit f844eb485e introduced a regression for
NV50, which lead to visual artifacts, tearing and eventual crashes.

In the changes of f844eb485e only the first line
was correctly translated to the new NVIDIA header macros:

- PUSH_NVSQ(push, NV827C, 0x0110, 0,
-					0x0114, 0);
+ PUSH_MTHD(push, NV827C, SET_PROCESSING,
+			  NVDEF(NV827C, SET_PROCESSING, USE_GAIN_OFS, DISABLE));

The lower part ("0x0114, 0") was probably omitted by accident.

This patch restores the push of the missing data and fixes the regression.

8ef23b6f6a drm/nouveau/disp/ga10[24]: initial support
UEFI/RM no longer use IED scripts from the VBIOS, though they appear to
have been updated for use by the x86 VBIOS code, so we should be able to
continue using them for the moment.

Unfortunately, we require some hacks to do so, as the BeforeLinkTraining
IED script became a pointer to an array of scripts instead, without a
revbump of the relevant tables.

There's also some changes to SOR clock divider fiddling, which are
hopefully correct enough that things work as they should.

AFAIK, GA100 shouldn't have display, so it hasn't been added.

6ca2ab8086 drm: automatic legacy gamma support
To support legacy gamma ioctls the drivers need to set
drm_crtc_funcs.gamma_set either to a custom implementation or to
drm_atomic_helper_legacy_gamma_set. Most of the atomic drivers do the
latter.

We can simplify this by making the core handle it automatically.

Move the drm_atomic_helper_legacy_gamma_set() functionality into
drm_color_mgmt.c to make drm_mode_gamma_set_ioctl() use
drm_crtc_funcs.gamma_set if set or GAMMA_LUT property if not.

drm: Pass the full state to connectors atomic functions
The current atomic helpers have either their object state being passed as
an argument or the full atomic state.

The former is the pattern that was done at first, before switching to the
latter for new hooks or when it was needed.

Now that the CRTCs have been converted, let's move forward with the
connectors to provide a consistent interface.

The conversion was done using the coccinelle script below, and built tested

drm/atomic: Pass the full state to CRTC atomic_check
The current atomic helpers have either their object state being passed as
an argument or the full atomic state.

The former is the pattern that was done at first, before switching to the
latter for new hooks or when it was needed.

Let's start convert all the remaining helpers to provide a consistent
interface, starting with the CRTC's atomic_check.

The conversion was done using the coccinelle script below,
built tested on all the drivers and actually tested on vc4.

24d9422e26 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Program notifier offset before requesting disp caps
Not entirely sure why this never came up when I originally tested this
(maybe some BIOSes already have this setup?) but the ->caps_init vfunc
appears to cause the display engine to throw an exception on driver

nouveau 0000:01:00.0: disp: chid 0 mthd 008c data 00000000 0000508c 0000102b

This is magic nvidia speak for "You need to have the DMA notifier offset
programmed before you can call NV507D_GET_CAPABILITIES." So, let's fix
this by doing that, and also perform an update afterwards to prevent
racing with the GPU when reading capabilities.

v2:
* Don't just program the DMA notifier offset, make sure to actually
  perform an update
v3:
* Don't call UPDATE()
* Actually read the correct notifier fields, as apparently the
CAPABILITIES_DONE field lives in a different location than the main
NV_DISP_CORE_NOTIFIER_1 field. As well, 907d+ use a different
  CAPABILITIES_DONE field then pre-907d cards.
v4:
* Don't forget to check the return value of core507d_read_caps()
v5:
* Get rid of NV50_DISP_CAPS_NTFY[14], use NV50_DISP_CORE_NTFY
* Disable notifier after calling GetCapabilities()

a0922278f8 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Refactor and cleanup DP HPD handling
First some backstory here: Currently, we keep track of whether or not
we've enabled MST or not by trying to piggy-back off the MST helpers.
This means that in order to check whether MST is enabled or not, we
actually need to grab drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr.lock.

Back when I originally wrote this, I did this piggy-backing with the
intention that I'd eventually be teaching our MST helpers how to recover
when an MST device has stopped responding, which in turn would require
the MST helpers having a way of disabling MST independently of the
driver. Note that this was before I reworked locking in the MST helpers,
so at the time we were sticking random things under &mgr->lock - which
grabbing this lock was meant to protect against.

This never came to fruition because doing such a reset safely turned out
to be a lot more painful and impossible then it sounds, and also just
risks us working around issues with our MST handlers that should be
properly fixed instead. Even if it did though, simply calling
drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst() from the MST helpers (with the
exception of when we're tearing down our MST managers, that's always OK)
wouldn't have been a bad idea, since drivers like nouveau and i915 need
to do their own book keeping immediately after disabling MST.
So-implementing that would likely require adding a hook for
helper-triggered MST disables anyway.

So, fast forward to now - we want to start adding support for all of the
miscellaneous bits of the DP protocol (for both SST and MST) we're
missing before moving on to supporting more complicated features like
supporting different BPP values on MST, DSC, etc. Since many of these
features only exist on SST and make use of DP HPD IRQs, we want to be
able to atomically check whether we're servicing an MST IRQ or SST IRQ
in nouveau_connector_hotplug(). Currently we literally don't do this at
all, and just handle any kind of possible DP IRQ we could get including
ESIs - even if MST isn't actually enabled.

This would be very complicated and difficult to fix if we need to hold
&mgr->lock while handling SST IRQs to ensure that the MST topology
state doesn't change under us. What we really want here is to do our own
tracking of whether MST is enabled or not, similar to drivers like i915,
and define our own locking order to decomplicate things and avoid
hitting locking issues in the future.

So, let's do this by refactoring our MST probing/enabling code to use
our own MST bookkeeping, along with adding a lock for protecting DP
state that needs to be checked outside of our connector probing
functions. While we're at it, we also remove a bunch of unneeded steps
we perform when probing/enabling MST:

* Enabling bits in MSTM_CTRL before calling drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst().
I don't think these ever actually did anything, since the nvif methods
for enabling MST don't actually do anything DPCD related and merely
indicate to nvkm that we've turned on MST.
* Checking the MSTM_CTRL bit is intact when checking the state of an
enabled MST topology in nv50_mstm_detect(). I just added this to be safe
originally, but now that we try reading the DPCD when probing DP
connectors it shouldn't be needed as that will abort our hotplug probing
if the device was removed well before we start checking for MST..
* All of the duplicate DPCD version checks.

This leaves us with much nicer looking code, a much more sensible
locking scheme, and an easy way of checking whether MST is enabled or
not for handling DP HPD IRQs.

v2:
* Get rid of accidental newlines
v4:
* Fix uninitialized usage of mstm in nv50_mstm_detect() - thanks kernel

Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"New xilinx displayport driver, AMD support for two new GPUs (more
header files), i915 initial support for RocketLake and some work on
  their DG1 (discrete chip).

The core also grew some lockdep annotations to try and constrain what
drivers do with dma-fences, and added some documentation on why the
idea of indefinite fences doesn't work.

  The long list is below.

I do have some fixes trees outstanding, but I'll follow up with those
  later.

2d7865082d drm/nouveau/kms/nvd9-: Fix disabling CRCs alongside OR reprogramming
While I had thought I'd tested this before, it looks like this one issue
slipped by my original CRC patches. Basically, there seem to be a few
rules we need to follow when sending CRC commands to the display
controller:

* CRCs cannot be both disabled and enabled for a single head in the same
  flush
* If a head with CRC reporting enabled switches from one OR to another,
there must be a flush before the OR is re-enabled regardless of the
  final state of CRC reporting.

So, split nv50_crc_atomic_prepare_notifier_contexts() into two
functions:
* nv_crc_atomic_release_notifier_contexts() - checks whether the CRC
notifier contexts were released successfully after the first flush
* nv_crc_atomic_init_notifier_contexts() - prepares any CRC notifier
contexts for use before enabling reporting

Additionally, in order to force a flush when we re-assign ORs with heads
that have CRCs enabled we split our atomic check function into two:

* nv50_crc_atomic_check_head() - called from our heads' atomic checks,
determines whether a state needs to set or clear CRC reporting
* nv50_crc_atomic_check_outp() - called at the end of the atomic check
after all ORs have been added to the atomic state, and sets
  nv50_atom->flush_disable if needed

12885ecbfe drm/nouveau/kms/nvd9-: Add CRC support
This introduces support for CRC readback on gf119+, using the
documentation generously provided to us by Nvidia:

https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-doc/blob/master/Display-CRC/display-crc.txt

We expose all available CRC sources. SF, SOR, PIOR, and DAC are exposed
through a single set of "outp" sources: outp-active/auto for a CRC of
the scanout region, outp-complete for a CRC of both the scanout and
blanking/sync region combined, and outp-inactive for a CRC of only the
blanking/sync region. For each source, nouveau selects the appropriate
tap point based on the output path in use. We also expose an "rg"
source, which allows for capturing CRCs of the scanout raster before
it's encoded into a video signal in the output path. This tap point is
referred to as the raster generator.

Note that while there's some other neat features that can be used with
CRC capture on nvidia hardware, like capturing from two CRC sources
simultaneously, I couldn't see any usecase for them and did not
implement them.

Nvidia only allows for accessing CRCs through a shared DMA region that
we program through the core EVO/NvDisplay channel which is referred to
as the notifier context. The notifier context is limited to either 255
(for Fermi-Pascal) or 2047 (Volta+) entries to store CRCs in, and
unfortunately the hardware simply drops CRCs and reports an overflow
once all available entries in the notifier context are filled.

Since the DRM CRC API and igt-gpu-tools don't expect there to be a limit
on how many CRCs can be captured, we work around this in nouveau by
allocating two separate notifier contexts for each head instead of one.
We schedule a vblank worker ahead of time so that once we start getting
close to filling up all of the available entries in the notifier
context, we can swap the currently used notifier context out with
another pre-prepared notifier context in a manner similar to page
flipping.

Unfortunately, the hardware only allows us to this by flushing two
separate updates on the core channel: one to release the current
notifier context handle, and one to program the next notifier context's
handle. When the hardware processes the first update, the CRC for the
current frame is lost. However, the second update can be flushed
immediately without waiting for the first to complete so that CRC
generation resumes on the next frame. According to Nvidia's hardware
engineers, there isn't any cleaner way of flipping notifier contexts
that would avoid this.

Since using vblank workers to swap out the notifier context will ensure
we can usually flush both updates to hardware within the timespan of a
single frame, we can also ensure that there will only be exactly one
frame lost between the first and second update being executed by the
hardware. This gives us the guarantee that we're always correctly
matching each CRC entry with it's respective frame even after a context
flip. And since IGT will retrieve the CRC entry for a frame by waiting
until it receives a CRC for any subsequent frames, this doesn't cause an
issue with any tests and is much simpler than trying to change the
current DRM API to accommodate.

In order to facilitate testing of correct handling of this limitation,
we also expose a debugfs interface to manually control the threshold for
when we start trying to flip the notifier context. We will use this in
igt to trigger a context flip for testing purposes without needing to
wait for the notifier to completely fill up. This threshold is reset
to the default value set by nouveau after each capture, and is exposed
in a separate folder within each CRTC's debugfs directory labelled
"nv_crc".

0bc8ffe097 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Move hard-coded object handles into header
While most of the functionality on Nvidia GPUs doesn't require using an
explicit handle instead of the main VRAM handle + offset, there are a
couple of places that do require explicit handles, such as CRC
functionality. Since this means we're about to add another
nouveau-chosen handle, let's just go ahead and move any hard-coded
handles into a single header. This is just to keep things slightly
organized, and to make it a little bit easier if we need to add more
handles in the future.

dbdaf719c6 drm/nouveau/kms/nv140-: Track wndw mappings in nv50_head_atom
While we're not quite ready yet to add support for flexible wndw
mappings, we are going to need to at least keep track of the static wndw
mappings we're currently using in each head's atomic state. We'll likely
use this in the future to implement real flexible window mapping, but
the primary reason we'll need this is for CRC support.

See: on nvidia hardware, each CRC entry in the CRC notifier dma context
has a "tag". This tag corresponds to the nth update on a specific
EVO/NvDisplay channel, which itself is referred to as the "controlling
channel". For gf119+ this can be the core channel, ovly channel, or base
channel. Since we don't expose CRC entry tags to userspace, we simply
ignore this feature and always use the core channel as the controlling
channel. Simple.

Things get a little bit more complicated on gv100+ though. GV100+ only
lets us set the controlling channel to a specific wndw channel, and that
wndw must be owned by the head that we're grabbing CRCs when we enable
CRC generation. Thus, we always need to make sure that each atomic head
state has at least one wndw that is mapped to the head, which will be
used as the controlling channel.

Note that since we don't have flexible wndw mappings yet, we don't
expect to run into any scenarios yet where we'd have a head with no
mapped wndws. When we do add support for flexible wndw mappings however,
we'll need to make sure that we handle reprogramming CRC capture if our
controlling wndw is moved to another head (and potentially reject the
new head state entirely if we can't find another available wndw to
replace it).

With that being said, nouveau currently tracks wndw visibility on heads.
It does not keep track of the actual ownership mappings, which are
(currently) statically programmed. To fix this, we introduce another
bitmask into nv50_head_atom.wndw to keep track of ownership separately
from visibility. We then introduce a nv50_head callback to handle
populating the wndw ownership map, and call it during the atomic check
phase when core->assign_windows is set to true.

9c8e9b790d drm/nouveau/kms/nv140-: Don't modify depth in state during atomic commit
Currently, we modify the depth value stored in the atomic state when
performing a commit in order to workaround the fact we haven't
implemented support for depths higher then 10 yet. This isn't idempotent
though, as it will happen every atomic commit where we modify the OR
state even if the head's depth in the atomic state hasn't been modified.

Normally this wouldn't matter, since we don't modify OR state outside of
modesets, but since the CRC capture region is implemented as part of the
OR state in hardware we'll want to make sure all commits modifying OR
state are idempotent so as to avoid changing the depth unexpectedly.

So, fix this by simply not writing the reduced depth value we come up
with to the atomic state.

d6a9efece7 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Share DP SST mode_valid() handling with MST
Currently, the nv50_mstc_mode_valid() function is happy to take any and
all modes, even the ones we can't actually support sometimes like
interlaced modes.

Luckily, the only difference between the mode validation that needs to
be performed for MST vs. SST is that eventually we'll need to check the
minimum PBN against the MSTB's full PBN capabilities (remember-we don't
care about the current bw state here). Otherwise, all of the other code
can be shared.

So, we move all of the common mode validation in
nouveau_connector_mode_valid() into a separate helper,
nv50_dp_mode_valid(), and use that from both nv50_mstc_mode_valid() and
nouveau_connector_mode_valid(). Note that we allow for returning the
calculated clock that nv50_dp_mode_valid() came up with, since we'll

This fixes some hangs with Turing, which would be caused by attempting
to set an interlaced mode on hardware that doesn't support it. This
patch likely fixes other hardware hanging in the same way as well.

Since the commit 742db30c4e ("drm/nouveau: Add HD-audio component

is the naive assumption that crtc->index corresponds to the HDA pin.

from the output ior id number.

This patch corrects the assignment of port and dev_id arguments in the

f287d3d197 drm/nouveau/kms/gv100-: Re-set LUT after clearing for modesets
While certain modeset operations on gv100+ need us to temporarily
disable the LUT, we make the mistake of sometimes neglecting to
reprogram the LUT after such modesets. In particular, moving a head from
one encoder to another seems to trigger this quite often. GV100+ is very
picky about having a LUT in most scenarios, so this causes the display
engine to hang with the following error code:

disp: chid 1 stat 00005080 reason 5 [INVALID_STATE] mthd 0200 data
00000001 code 0000002d)

So, fix this by always re-programming the LUT if we're clearing it in a
state where the wndw is still visible, and has a XLUT handle programmed.

137c4ba716 drm/nouveau/kms/gv100-: avoid sending a core update until the first modeset
The OR routing logic in NVKM does not expect to receive supervisor
interrupts until the DD has provided consistent information on the
ORs it's using and the EVO/NVD assembly state to match.

The combination of changing window ownership + core channel update
during display init triggered a situation where we'd disconnect an
OR from the pad it was meant to still be driving on some systems.

5bb88d0794 drm/nouveau/kms/gv100-: move window ownership setup into modesetting path
For various complicated reasons, we need to avoid sending a core update
method during display init. Something, which we've been required to do
on GV100 and up because we've been assigning windows to heads there and
the HW is rather picky about when that's allowed.

This moves window assignment into the modesetting path at a point where
it's much safer to send our first update methods to NVDisplay.

742db30c4e drm/nouveau: Add HD-audio component notifier support
This patch adds the support for the notification of HD-audio hotplug
via the already existing drm_audio_component framework. This allows
us more reliable hotplug notification and ELD transfer without
accessing HD-audio bus; it's more efficient, and more importantly, it
works without waking up the runtime PM.

The implementation is rather simplistic: nouveau driver provides the
get_eld ops for HD-audio, and it notifies the audio hotplug via
pin_eld_notify callback upon each nv50_audio_enable() and _disable()
call. As the HD-audio pin assignment seems corresponding to the CRTC,
the crtc->index number is passed directly as the zero-based port
number.

The bind and unbind callbacks handle the device-link so that it
assures the PM call order.

This commit is seperate from the previous one to make it easier to

Note as well that Intel already has a temporary workaround for this in

5ff0cb1ce2 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Use less encoders by making mstos per-head
Currently, for every single MST capable DRM connector we create a set of
fake encoders, one for each possible head. Unfortunately this ends up
being a huge waste of encoders. While this currently isn't causing us
any problems, it's extremely close to doing so.

The ThinkPad P71 is a good example of this. Originally when trying to
figure out why nouveau was failing to load on this laptop, I discovered
it was because nouveau was creating too many encoders. This ended up
being because we were mistakenly creating MST encoders for the eDP port,
however we are still extremely close to hitting the encoder limit on
this machine as it exposes 1 eDP port and 5 DP ports, resulting in 31
encoders.

So while this fix didn't end up being necessary to fix the P71, we still
need to implement this so that we avoid hitting the encoder limit for
valid display configurations in the event that some machine with more
connectors then this becomes available. Plus, we don't want to let good
code go to waste :)

So, use less encoders by only creating one MSTO per head. Then, attach
each new MSTC to each MSTO which corresponds to a head that it's parent
DP port is capable of using. This brings the number of encoders we
register on the ThinkPad P71 from 31, down to just 15. Yay!

When drm_connector_helper_funcs->atomic_best_encoder is defined,
->best_encoder is ignored by the atomic modesetting helpers. That being
said, this hook is completely broken anyway - it always returns the
first msto for a given mstc, despite the fact it might already be in
use.

So, just get rid of it. We'll need this in a moment anyway, when we make
mstos per-head as opposed to per-connector.

ae5769d467 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Limit MST BPC to 8
Noticed this while working on some unrelated CRC stuff. Currently,
userspace has very little support for BPCs higher than 8. While this
doesn't matter for most things, on MST topologies we need to be careful
about ensuring that we do our best to make any given display
configuration fit within the bandwidth restraints of the topology, since
otherwise less people's monitor configurations will work.

Allowing for BPC settings higher than 8 dramatically increases the
required bandwidth for displays in most configurations, and consequently
makes it a lot less likely that said display configurations will pass
the atomic check.

In the future we want to fix this correctly by making it so that we
adjust the bpp for each display in a topology to be as high as possible,
while making sure to lower the bpp of each display in the event that we
run out of bandwidth and need to rerun our atomic check. But for now,
follow the behavior that both i915 and amdgpu are sticking to.

6f85f73821 drm/dp_mst: Add basic topology reprobing when resuming
Finally! For a very long time, our MST helpers have had one very
annoying issue: They don't know how to reprobe the topology state when
coming out of suspend. This means that if a user has a machine connected
to an MST topology and decides to suspend their machine, we lose all
topology changes that happened during that period. That can be a big
problem if the machine was connected to a different topology on the same
port before resuming, as we won't bother reprobing any of the ports and
likely cause the user's monitors not to come back up as expected.

So, we start fixing this by teaching our MST helpers how to reprobe the
link addresses of each connected topology when resuming. As it turns
out, the behavior that we want here is identical to the behavior we want
when initially probing a newly connected MST topology, with a couple of
important differences:

- We need to be more careful about handling the potential races between
events from the MST hub that could change the topology state as we're
  performing the link address reprobe
- We need to be more careful about handling unlikely state changes on
ports - such as an input port turning into an output port, something
that would be far more likely to happen in situations like the MST hub
we're connected to being changed while we're suspend

Both of which have been solved by previous commits. That leaves one
requirement:

- We need to prune any MST ports in our in-memory topology state that
were present when suspending, but have not appeared in the post-resume
link address response from their parent branch device

Which we can now handle in this commit by modifying
drm_dp_send_link_address(). We then introduce suspend/resume reprobing
by introducing drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_invalidate_mstb(), which we call
in drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_suspend() to traverse the in-memory topology
state to indicate that each mstb needs it's link address resent and PBN
resources reprobed.

On resume, we start back up &mgr->work and have it reprobe the topology
in the same way we would on a hotplug, removing any leftover ports that
no longer appear in the topology state.

Changes since v4:
* Split indenting changes in drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_resume() into a
  separate patch
* Only fire hotplugs when something has actually changed after a link
  address probe
* Don't try to change port->connector at all on ports, just throw out
ports that need their connectors removed to make things easier.

3f9b3f02dd drm/dp_mst: Protect drm_dp_mst_port members with locking
This is a complicated one. Essentially, there's currently a problem in the MST
core that hasn't really caused any issues that we're aware of (emphasis on "that
we're aware of"): locking.

When we go through and probe the link addresses and path resources in a
topology, we hold no locks when updating ports with said information. The
members I'm referring to in particular are:

- ldps
- ddps
- mcs
- pdt
- dpcd_rev
- num_sdp_streams
- num_sdp_stream_sinks
- available_pbn
- input
- connector

Now that we're handling UP requests asynchronously and will be using some of
the struct members mentioned above in atomic modesetting in the future for
features such as PBN validation, this is going to become a lot more important.
As well, the next few commits that prepare us for and introduce suspend/resume
reprobing will also need clear locking in order to prevent from additional
racing hilarities that we never could have hit in the past.

So, let's solve this issue by using &mgr->base.lock, the modesetting
lock which currently only protects &mgr->base.state. This works
perfectly because it allows us to avoid blocking connection_mutex
unnecessarily, and we can grab this in connector detection paths since
it's a ww mutex. We start by having drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req() hold this
when updating ports. For drm_dp_mst_handle_link_address_port() things
are a bit more complicated. As I've learned the hard way, we can grab
&mgr->lock.base for everything except for port->connector. See, our
normal driver probing paths end up generating this rather obvious
lockdep chain:

&drm->mode_config.mutex
  -> crtc_ww_class_mutex/crtc_ww_class_acquire
    -> &connector->mutex

However, sysfs grabs &drm->mode_config.mutex in order to protect itself
from connector state changing under it. Because this entails grabbing
kn->count, e.g. the lock that the kernel provides for protecting sysfs
contexts, we end up grabbing kn->count followed by
&drm->mode_config.mutex. This ends up creating an extremely rude chain:

&kn->count
  -> &drm->mode_config.mutex
    -> crtc_ww_class_mutex/crtc_ww_class_acquire
      -> &connector->mutex

I mean, look at that thing! It's just evil!!! This gross thing ends up
making any calls to drm_connector_register()/drm_connector_unregister()
impossible when holding any kind of modesetting lock. This is annoying
because ideally, we always want to ensure that
drm_dp_mst_port->connector never changes when doing an atomic commit or
check that would affect the atomic topology state so that it can
reliably and easily be used from future DRM DP MST helpers to assist
with tasks such as scanning through the current VCPI allocations and
adding connectors which need to have their allocations updated in
response to a bandwidth change or the like.

Being able to hold &mgr->base.lock throughout the entire link probe
process would have been _great_, since we could prevent userspace from
ever seeing any states in-between individual port changes and as a
result likely end up with a much faster probe and more consistent
results from said probes. But without some rework of how we handle
connector probing in sysfs it's not at all currently possible. In the
future, maybe we can try using the sysfs locks to protect updates to
connector probing state and fix this mess.

So for now, to protect everything other than port->connector under
&mgr->base.lock and ensure that we still have the guarantee that atomic
check/commit contexts will never see port->connector change we use a
silly trick. See: port->connector only needs to change in order to
ensure that input ports (see the MST spec) never have a ghost connector
associated with them. But, there's nothing stopping us from simply
throwing the entire port out and creating a new one in order to maintain
that requirement while still keeping port->connector consistent across
the lifetime of the port in atomic check/commit contexts. For all
intended purposes this works fine, as we validate ports in any contexts
we care about before using them and as such will end up reporting the
connector as disconnected until it's port's destruction finalizes. So,
we just do that in cases where we detect port->input has transitioned
from true->false. We don't need to worry about the other direction,
since a port without a connector isn't visible to userspace and as such
doesn't need to be protected by &mgr->base.lock until we finish
registering a connector for it.

For updating members of drm_dp_mst_port other than port->connector, we
simply grab &mgr->base.lock in drm_dp_mst_link_probe_work() for already
registered ports, update said members and drop the lock before
potentially registering a connector and probing the link address of it's
children.

Finally, we modify drm_dp_mst_detect_port() to take a modesetting lock
acquisition context in order to acquire &mgr->base.lock under
&connection_mutex and convert all it's users over to using the
.detect_ctx probe hooks.

With that, we finally have well defined locking.

Changes since v4:
* Get rid of port->mutex, stop using connection_mutex and just use our own
modesetting lock - mgr->base.lock. Also, add a probe_lock that comes
  before this patch.
* Just throw out ports that get changed from an output to an input, and
replace them with new ports. This lets us ensure that modesetting
contexts never see port->connector go from having a connector to being
  NULL.
* Write an extremely detailed explanation of what problems this is
trying to fix, since there's a _lot_ of context here and I honestly
forgot some of it myself a couple times.
* Don't grab mgr->lock when reading port->mstb in
  drm_dp_mst_handle_link_address_port(). It's not needed.

698c1aa9f8 drm/nouveau/kms/nv50-: Don't create MSTMs for eDP connectors
On the ThinkPad P71, we have one eDP connector exposed along with 5 DP
connectors, resulting in a total of 11 TMDS encoders. Since the GPU on
this system is also capable of MST, we create an additional 4 fake MST
encoders for each DP port. Unfortunately, we also do this for the eDP
port as well, resulting in:

1 eDP port: +1 TMDS encoder
              +4 DPMST encoders
5 DP ports: +2 TMDS encoders
              +4 DPMST encoders
	      *5 ports
	      == 35 encoders

Which breaks things, since DRM has a hard coded limit of 32 encoders.
So, fix this by not creating MSTMs for any eDP connectors. This brings
us down to 31 encoders, although we can do better.

This fixes driver probing for nouveau on the ThinkPad P71.

62afb4ad42 drm/connector: Allow max possible encoders to attach to a connector
Currently we restrict the number of encoders that can be linked to
a connector to 3, increase it to match the maximum number of encoders
that can be initialized(32).

To more effiently do that lets switch from an array of encoder ids to
bitmask.

ed22eb56f2 drm/nouveau/dispnv50: Fix runtime PM ref tracking for non-blocking modesets
This is something that got noticed a while ago back when I was fixing a
large number of runtime PM related issues in nouveau, but never got
fixed:

https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/series/46815/#rev7

It's not safe to iterate the entire list of CRTCs in
nv50_disp_atomic_commit(), as we could be doing a non-blocking modeset
on one CRTC in parallel with one or more other CRTCs. Likewise, this
means it's also not safe to do so in order to track runtime PM state.
While this code is certainly wrong, so far the only issues I've seen
this cause in the wild is the occasional PM ref unbalance after an
atomic check failure + module reloading (since the PCI device will
outlive nouveau in such scenarios).

So, do this far more elegantly: grab a runtime PM ref across the modeset
and commit tail, then grab/put references for each CRTC enable/disable.
This also ends up being much simpler then the previous broken solution
we had.

Finally, since we've removed all it's users: get rid of
nouveau_drm->have_disp_power_ref.
