ad06972d53 drm/msm/dpu: Reorder encoder kickoff for CWB
Add a helper that will handle the correct order of the encoder kickoffs
for concurrent writeback.

For concurrent writeback, the realtime encoder must always kickoff last
as it will call the trigger flush and start.

This avoids the following scenario where the writeback encoder
increments the pending kickoff count after the WB_DONE interrupt is
fired:

If the realtime encoder is kicked off first, the encoder kickoff will
flush/start the encoder and increment the pending kickoff count. The
WB_DONE interrupt then fires (before the writeback encoder is kicked
off). When the writeback encoder enters its kickoff, it will skip the
flush/start (due to CWB being enabled) and hit a frame done timeout
as the frame was kicked off (and the WB_DONE interrupt fired) without
the pending kickoff count being incremented.

In addition, the writeback timer should only start after the realtime
encoder is kicked off to ensure that we don't get timeouts when the
system has a heavy load (ex. when debug logs are enabled)

2ea3468226 drm/msm/dpu: Add CWB to msm_display_topology
Currently, the topology is calculated based on the assumption that the
user cannot request real-time and writeback simultaneously. For example,
the number of LMs and CTLs are currently based off the number of phys
encoders under the assumption there will be at least 1 LM/CTL per phys
encoder.

This will not hold true for concurrent writeback as both phys encoders
(1 real-time and 1 writeback) must be driven by 1 LM/CTL when concurrent
writeback is enabled.

To account for this, add a cwb_enabled flag and only adjust the number of
CTL/LMs needed by a given topology based on the number of phys encoders
only if CWB is not enabled.

1ce69c265a drm/msm/dpu: move resource allocation to CRTC
All resource allocation is centered around the LMs. Then other blocks
(except DSCs) are allocated basing on the LMs that was selected, and LM
powers up the CRTC rather than the encoder.

Moreover if at some point the driver supports encoder cloning,
allocating resources from the encoder will be incorrect, as all clones
will have different encoder IDs, while LMs are to be shared by these
encoders.

In addition, move mode_changed() to dpu_crtc as encoder no longer has
access to topology information

d245ce5689 drm/msm/dpu: Remove arbitrary limit of 1 interface in DSC topology
When DSC is enabled the number of interfaces is forced to be 1, and
documented that it is a "power-optimal" layout to use two DSC encoders

hard-slice encoders with two LMs) is also used when the display is
fed with data over two instead of one interface (common on 4k@120Hz

num_intf = 1 assignment as the count is already calculated by computing
the number of physical encoders within the virtual encoder.

b6090ffb30 drm/msm/dpu: Fall back to a single DSC encoder (1:1:1) on small SoCs
Some SoCs such as SC7280 (used in the Fairphone 5) have only a single
DSC "hard slice" encoder. The current hardcoded use of 2:2:1 topology
(2 LM and 2 DSC for a single interface) make it impossible to use
Display Stream Compression panels with mainline, which is exactly what's
installed on the Fairphone 5.

By loosening the hardcoded `num_dsc = 2` to fall back to `num_dsc =
1` when the catalog only contains one entry, we can trivially support
this phone and unblock further panel enablement on mainline. A few
more supporting changes in this patch ensure hardcoded constants of 2
DSC encoders are replaced to count or read back the actual number of
DSC hardware blocks that are enabled for the given virtual encoder.
Likewise DSC_MODE_SPLIT_PANEL can no longer be unconditionally enabled.

144429831f drm/msm/dpu: Don't leak bits_per_component into random DSC_ENC fields
What used to be the input_10_bits boolean - feeding into the lowest
bit of DSC_ENC - on MSM downstream turned into an accidental OR with
the full bits_per_component number when it was ported to the upstream
kernel.

On typical bpc=8 setups we don't notice this because line_buf_depth is
always an odd value (it contains bpc+1) and will also set the 4th bit
after left-shifting by 3 (hence this |= bits_per_component is a no-op).

Now that guards are being removed to allow more bits_per_component
values besides 8 (possible since commit 49fd30a715 ("drm/msm/dsi: use
DRM DSC helpers for DSC setup")), a bpc of 10 will instead clash with
the 5th bit which is convert_rgb. This is "fortunately" also always set
to true by MSM's dsi_populate_dsc_params() already, but once a bpc of 12
starts being used it'll write into simple_422 which is normally false.

To solve all these overlaps, simply replicate downstream code and only
set this lowest bit if bits_per_component is equal to 10. It is unclear
why DSC requires this only for bpc=10 but not bpc=12, and also notice
that this lowest bit wasn't set previously despite having a panel and
patch on the list using it without any mentioned issues.

8c62a31607 drm/msm/dpu: allow using two SSPP blocks for a single plane
Virtual wide planes give high amount of flexibility, but it is not
always enough:

In parallel multirect case only the half of the usual width is supported
for tiled formats. Thus the whole width of two tiled multirect
rectangles can not be greater than max_linewidth, which is not enough
for some platforms/compositors.

Another example is as simple as wide YUV plane. YUV planes can not use
multirect, so currently they are limited to max_linewidth too.

Now that the planes are fully virtualized, add support for allocating
two SSPP blocks to drive a single DRM plane. This fixes both mentioned
cases and allows all planes to go up to 2*max_linewidth (at the cost of
making some of the planes unavailable to the user).

774bcfb731 drm/msm/dpu: add support for virtual planes
Only several SSPP blocks support such features as YUV output or scaling,
thus different DRM planes have different features. Properly utilizing
all planes requires the attention of the compositor, who should
prefer simpler planes to YUV-supporting ones. Otherwise it is very easy
to end up in a situation when all featureful planes are already
allocated for simple windows, leaving no spare plane for YUV playback.

To solve this problem make all planes virtual. Each plane is registered
as if it supports all possible features, but then at the runtime during
the atomic_check phase the driver selects backing SSPP block for each
plane.

As the planes are attached to the CRTC and not the encoder, the SSPP
blocks are also allocated per CRTC ID (all other resources are currently
allocated per encoder ID). This also matches the hardware requirement,
where both rectangles of a single SSPP can only be used with the LM
pair.

Note, this does not provide support for using two different SSPP blocks
for a single plane or using two rectangles of an SSPP to drive two
planes. Each plane still gets its own SSPP and can utilize either a solo
rectangle or both multirect rectangles depending on the resolution.

Note #2: By default support for virtual planes is turned off and the
driver still uses old code path with preallocated SSPP block for each
plane. To enable virtual planes, pass 'msm.dpu_use_virtual_planes=1'
kernel parameter.

d9f55e2abf drm/msm/dpu1: don't choke on disabling the writeback connector

It doesn't make sense to check for the Writeback connected status (and

It wasn't a problem before the commit 71174f362d ("drm/msm/dpu: move
writeback's atomic_check to dpu_writeback.c"), since encoder's
atomic_check() is called under a different conditions that the

e70140ba0d Get rid of 'remove_new' relic from platform driver struct
The continual trickle of small conversion patches is grating on me, and
is really not helping. Just get rid of the 'remove_new' member
function, which is just an alias for the plain 'remove', and had a
comment to that effect:

  /*
   * .remove_new() is a relic from a prototype conversion of .remove().
   * New drivers are supposed to implement .remove(). Once all drivers are
   * converted to not use .remove_new any more, it will be dropped.
   */

This was just a tree-wide 'sed' script that replaced '.remove_new' with
'.remove', with some care taken to turn a subsequent tab into two tabs
to make things line up.

I did do some minimal manual whitespace adjustment for places that used
spaces to line things up.

Then I just removed the old (sic) .remove_new member function, and this
is the end result. No more unnecessary conversion noise.

ce357877e6 drm/msm/dpu: drop extra aspace checks in dpu_formats
The DPU driver isn't expected to be used without an IOMMU. Thus the
aspace will be always present. Not to mention that mdp4/mdp5 drivers
call msm_framebuffer_iova() without such checks, as the whole
msm_framebuffer layer is expected to support both IOMMU and IOMMU-less
configurations.

Drop these useless if (aspace) checks.

40dad89cb8 drm/msm/dpu: Don't always set merge_3d pending flush
Don't set the merge_3d pending flush bits if the mode_3d is
BLEND_3D_NONE.

Always flushing merge_3d can cause timeout issues when there are
multiple commits with concurrent writeback enabled.

This is because the video phys enc waits for the hw_ctl flush register
to be completely cleared [1] in its wait_for_commit_done(), but the WB
encoder always sets the merge_3d pending flush during each commit
regardless of if the merge_3d is actually active.

This means that the hw_ctl flush register will never be 0 when there are
multiple CWB commits and the video phys enc will hit vblank timeout
errors after the first CWB commit.

3ae133b019 drm/msm/dpu: move CRTC resource assignment to dpu_encoder_virt_atomic_check
Historically CRTC resources (LMs and CTLs) were assigned in
dpu_crtc_atomic_begin(). The commit 9222cdd27e ("drm/msm/dpu: move hw
resource tracking to crtc state") simply moved resources to
struct dpu_crtc_state, without changing the code sequence. Later on the
commit b107603b4a ("drm/msm/dpu: map mixer/ctl hw blocks in encoder
modeset") rearanged the code, but still kept the cstate->num_mixers
assignment to happen during commit phase. This makes dpu_crtc_state
inconsistent between consequent atomic_check() calls.

Move CRTC resource assignment to happen at the end of
dpu_encoder_virt_atomic_check().

be3415c620 drm/msm/dpu: Configure DP INTF/PHY selector
Some platforms provides a mechanism for configuring the mapping between
(one or two) DisplayPort intfs and their PHYs.

In particular SC8180X requires this to be configured, since on this
platform there are fewer controllers than PHYs.

The change implements the logic for optionally configuring which PHY
each of the DP INTFs should be connected to and marks the SC8180X DPU to
program 2 entries.

For now the request is simply to program the mapping 1:1, any support
for alternative mappings is left until the use case arrise.

Note that e.g. msm-4.14 unconditionally maps INTF 0 to PHY 0 on all
platforms, so perhaps this is needed in order to get DisplayPort working
on some other platforms as well.

d3a785e4f9 drm/msm/dpu: take plane rotation into account for wide planes
Take into account the plane rotation and flipping when calculating src
positions for the wide plane parts.

This is not an issue yet, because rotation is only supported for the
UBWC planes and wide UBWC planes are rejected anyway because in parallel
multirect case only the half of the usual width is supported for tiled
formats. However it's better to fix this now rather than stumbling upon
it later.

aedf02e46e drm/msm/dpu: move dpu_encoder's connector assignment to atomic_enable()
For cases where the crtc's connectors_changed was set without enable/active
getting toggled , there is an atomic_enable() call followed by an
atomic_disable() but without an atomic_mode_set().

This results in a NULL ptr access for the dpu_encoder_get_drm_fmt() call in
the atomic_enable() as the dpu_encoder's connector was cleared in the
atomic_disable() but not re-assigned as there was no atomic_mode_set() call.

Fix the NULL ptr access by moving the assignment for atomic_enable() and also
use drm_atomic_get_new_connector_for_encoder() to get the connector from
the atomic_state.

df24373435 drm/msm/dpu: don't play tricks with debug macros
DPU debugging macros need to be converted to a proper drm_debug_*
macros, however this is a going an intrusive patch, not suitable for a
fix. Wire DPU_DEBUG and DPU_DEBUG_DRIVER to always use DRM_DEBUG_DRIVER
to make sure that DPU debugging messages always end up in the drm debug
messages and are controlled via the usual drm.debug mask.

I don't think that it is a good idea for a generic DPU_DEBUG macro to be
tied to DRM_UT_KMS. It is used to report a debug message from driver, so by
default it should go to the DRM_UT_DRIVER channel. While refactoring
debug macros later on we might end up with particular messages going to
ATOMIC or KMS, but DRIVER should be the default.

  __string(field, mystring)

Which use to be assigned with __assign_str(field, mystring), no longer
needs the second parameter and it is unused. With this, __assign_str()
will now only get a single parameter.

There's over 700 users of __assign_str() and because coccinelle does not
handle the TRACE_EVENT() macro I ended up using the following sed script:

  git grep -l __assign_str | while read a ; do
      sed -e 's/\(__assign_str([^,]*[^ ,]\) *,[^;]*/\1)/' $a > /tmp/test-file;
      mv /tmp/test-file $a;
  done

I then searched for __assign_str() that did not end with ';' as those
were multi line assignments that the sed script above would fail to catch.

Note, the same updates will need to be done for:

  __assign_str_len()
  __assign_rel_str()
  __assign_rel_str_len()

I tested this with both an allmodconfig and an allyesconfig (build only for both).

ca97fa419d drm/msm/dpu: Allow configuring multiple active DSC blocks
Just like the active interface and writeback block in ctl_intf_cfg_v1(),
and later the rest of the blocks in followup active-CTL fixes or
reworks, multiple calls to this function should enable additional DSC
blocks instead of overwriting the blocks that are enabled.

This pattern is observed in an active-CTL scenario since DPU 5.0.0 where
for example bonded-DSI uses a single CTL to drive multiple INTFs, and
each encoder calls this function individually with the INTF (hence the
pre-existing update instead of overwrite of this bitmask) and DSC blocks
it wishes to be enabled, and expects them to be OR'd into the bitmask.

The reverse already exists in reset_intf_cfg_v1() where only specified
DSC blocks are removed out of the CTL_DSC_ACTIVE bitmask (same for all
other blocks and ACTIVE bitmasks), leaving the rest enabled.

However, when DPU was originally submitted to mainline PPSPLIT was no

that there is no support for PPSPLIT (currently), flushing the slave
