drm/connector: Set DDC pointer in drmm_connector_init
Commit 35a3b82f1b ("drm/connector: Introduce drmm_connector_init")
introduced the function drmm_connector_init() with a parameter for an
optional ddc pointer to the i2c controller used to access the DDC bus.

However, the underlying call to __drm_connector_init() was always
setting it to NULL instead of passing the ddc argument around.

This resulted in unexpected null pointer dereference on platforms
expecting to get a DDC controller.

drm/connector: Introduce drmm_connector_init
Unlike other DRM entities, there's no helper to create a DRM-managed
initialisation of a connector.

Let's create an helper to initialise a connector that would be passed as an
argument, and handle the cleanup through a DRM-managed action.

drm/connector: Consolidate Connector Initialization
We're going to add a DRM-managed connector initialization function.
Since we'll need both the with and without the DDC pointer, having a
single function that takes an optional pointer is easier to maintain.

Let's create a static function that will back both existing variants,
and will be reused by the DRM-managed variant.

drm/connector: Clarify when drm_connector_unregister is needed
The current documentation for drm_connector_unregister() mentions that
it's needed for connectors that have been registered through
drm_dev_register().

However, this was a typo and was meant to be drm_connector_register(),
which only applies to connectors registered after drm_dev_register() has
been called.

In addition, it was also mentioning that connectors are unregistered
automatically when drm_dev_unregister() is called. This part is a bit
misleading, since it might make it appear that
drm_connector_unregister() applies either to all connectors, or none of
them.

After discussing it with Daniel, it appears that we always need to call
drm_connector_unregister() on connectors that have been registered with
drm_connector_register(), but only those.

drm_connector_init() already mentions that it only needs
drm_connector_cleanup(), so let's clarify the drm_connector_register()
and drm_connector_unregister() documentation to point at each other, and
remove the misleading part about drm_dev_unregister().

5e41b01a78 drm/panel: Add an API to allow drm to set orientation from panel
Panels usually call drm_connector_set_panel_orientation(), which is
later than drm/kms driver calling drm_dev_register(). This leads to a

The orientation property is known earlier. For example, some panels
parse the property through device tree during probe.

Add an API to return the property from panel to drm/kms driver, so the
drivers are able to call drm_connector_set_orientation_from_panel() before
drm_dev_register().

4fc8cb47fc drm/display: Move HDMI helpers into display-helper module
Move DRM's HMDI helpers into the display/ subdirectoy and add it
to DRM's display helpers. Update all affected drivers. No functional
changes.

The HDMI helpers were implemented in the EDID and connector code, but
are actually unrelated. With the move to the display-helper library, we
can remove the dependency on drm_edid.{c,h} in some driver's HDMI source
files.

Several of the HDMI helpers remain in EDID code because both share parts
of their implementation internally. With better refractoring of the EDID
code, those HDMI helpers could be moved into the display-helper library
as well.

334f74ee85 drm/connector: Add a drm_connector privacy-screen helper functions (v2)
Add 2 drm_connector privacy-screen helper functions:

1. drm_connector_attach_privacy_screen_provider(), this function creates

generic notifier for generating sysfs-connector-status-events on external
changes to the privacy-screen status.

2. drm_connector_update_privacy_screen(), update the privacy-screen's
sw_state if the connector has a privacy-screen.

Changes in v2:
- Do not update connector->state->privacy_screen_sw_state on
  atomic-commits.
- Change drm_connector_update_privacy_screen() to take drm_connector_state
as argument instead of a full drm_atomic_state. This allows the helper

72ad49682d drm/connector: Add support for out-of-band hotplug notification (v3)
Add a new drm_connector_oob_hotplug_event() function and
oob_hotplug_event drm_connector_funcs member.

On some hardware a hotplug event notification may come from outside the
display driver / device. An example of this is some USB Type-C setups
where the hardware muxes the DisplayPort data and aux-lines but does
not pass the altmode HPD status bit to the GPU's DP HPD pin.

In cases like this the new drm_connector_oob_hotplug_event() function can
be used to report these out-of-band events.

Changes in v2:
- Make drm_connector_oob_hotplug_event() take a fwnode as argument and
have it call drm_connector_find_by_fwnode() internally. This allows
  making drm_connector_find_by_fwnode() a drm-internal function and
avoids code outside the drm subsystem potentially holding on the
  a drm_connector reference for a longer period.

Changes in v3:
- Drop the data argument to the drm_connector_oob_hotplug_event
function since it is not used atm. This can be re-added later when
a use for it actually arises.

48c429c6d1 drm/connector: Add a fwnode pointer to drm_connector and register with ACPI (v2)
Add a fwnode pointer to struct drm_connector and register an acpi_bus_type
for the connectors with the ACPI subsystem (when CONFIG_ACPI is enabled).

The adding of the fwnode pointer allows drivers to associate a fwnode
that represents a connector with that connector.

When the new fwnode pointer points to an ACPI-companion, then the new
acpi_bus_type will cause the ACPI subsys to bind the device instantiated
for the connector with the fwnode by calling acpi_bind_one(). This will
result in a firmware_node symlink under /sys/class/card#-<connecter-name>/
which helps to verify that the fwnode-s and connectors are properly
matched.

8f86c82aba drm/connector: demote connector force-probes for non-master clients
Force-probing a connector can be slow and cause flickering. As this
affects the global KMS state, let's make it so only the DRM master
can force-probe a connector.

Non-master DRM clients won't be able to force-probe a connector
anymore. Instead, KMS will perform a regular read-only connector

8445e2c54c drm: Replace mode->export_head with a boolean
In order to shrink drm_display_mode below the magic two cacheline
mark in 64bit we need to shrink it by another 8 bytes. The easiest
thing to eliminate is the 'export_head' list head which is only
used during the getconnector ioctl to temporarly track which modes
on the connector's mode list are to be exposed and which are to
remain hidden.

We can simply replace the list head with a boolean which we use
to tag the modes that are to be exposed. If we make sure to clear
the tags after we're done with them we don't even need an extra
loop over the modes to reset the tags at the start of the
getconnector ioctl.

Conveniently we already have a hole for the boolean left
behind by the removal of mode->private_flags. The final size
of the struct is now 112 bytes on 32bit and 120 bytes on 64bit.

Another alternative would be a temp bitmask so we wouldn't have
to have anything in the mode struct itself. The main issue is
how large of a bitmask do we need? I guess we could allocate
it dynamically but that means an extra kcalloc() and an extra
loop through the modes to count them first (or grow the bitmask
with krealloc() as needed).

e5b9277328 drm: report dp downstream port type as a subconnector property
Currently, downstream port type is only reported in debugfs. This
information should be considered important since it reflects the actual
physical connector type. Some userspace (e.g. window compositors)
may want to show this info to a user.

The 'subconnector' property is already utilized for DVI-I and TV-out for
reporting connector subtype.

The initial motivation for this feature came from i2c test [1].
It is supposed to be skipped on VGA connectors, but it cannot
detect VGA over DP and fails instead.

v2:
 - Ville: utilized drm_dp_is_branch()
 - Ville: implement DP 1.0 downstream type info

 - Ville: assume DVI is DVI-D
 - Ville: reuse Writeback enum value for Virtual subconnector

5186421cbf drm: Introduce epoch counter to drm_connector
This counter will be used by drm_helper_probe_detect caller to determine
if anything had changed(including edid, connection status and etc).
Hardware specific driver detect hooks are responsible for updating this
counter when some change is detected to notify the drm part,
which can trigger for example hotplug event.

change tons of source code as currently
drm_connector_update_edid_property is called only in

actually updated.

092c367ac6 drm/edid: Fix DispID tile parsing for override EDID
Currently the DispID tile block gets parsed in drm_get_edid(), which
is an odd place for it considering we parse nothing else there. Also
this doesn't work for override EDIDs since
drm_connector_update_edid_property() refuses to do its job twice
in such cases. Thus we never update the tile property with results
of the DispID tile block parsing during drm_get_edid().

To fix this let's just move the tile block parsing to happen during
drm_connector_update_edid_property(), which is where we parse a bunch
of other stuff as well (and where we update both the EDID and tile
properties).

69654c632d drm/connector: Split out orientation quirk detection (v2)
Not every platform needs quirk detection for panel orientation, so
split the drm_connector_init_panel_orientation_property into two
functions. One for platforms without the need for quirks, and the
other for platforms that need quirks.

Hans de Goede (changes in v2):

Rename the function from drm_connector_init_panel_orientation_property
to drm_connector_set_panel_orientation[_with_quirk] and pass in the
panel-orientation to set.

Beside the rename, also make the function set the passed in value
only once, if the value was set before (to a value other then
DRM_MODE_PANEL_ORIENTATION_UNKNOWN) make any further set calls a no-op.

This change is preparation for allowing the user to override the
panel-orientation for any connector from the kernel commandline.
When the panel-orientation is overridden this way, then we must ignore
the panel-orientation detection done by the driver.

7672dbba85 drm: Add Content protection type property
This patch adds a DRM ENUM property to the selected connectors.
This property is used for mentioning the protected content's type
from userspace to kernel HDCP authentication.

Type of the stream is decided by the protected content providers.
Type 0 content can be rendered on any HDCP protected display wires.
But Type 1 content can be rendered only on HDCP2.2 protected paths.

So when a userspace sets this property to Type 1 and starts the HDCP
enable, kernel will honour it only if HDCP2.2 authentication is through
for type 1. Else HDCP enable will be failed.

drm/connector: Fix warning in debug message
The commit 3aeeb13d89 ("drm/modes: Support modes names on the command
line") added name support to the DRM modes, and added that name to the
debug message.

However, that code tests for whether or not the name variable is NULL and
only prints it if it's not. Except that that variable is an array, so it
will never be NULL.

The original intent was to print it only when the name has been specified.
Just printing the array directly will achieve the same thing since the
drm_cmdline_mode structure that holds it is itself contained in
drm_connector, that is allocated with its whole content zero'd.

That means that if the name is not declared, the array will be all zeros,
which will not print anything.

drm/modes: Support modes names on the command line
The drm subsystem also uses the video= kernel parameter, and in the
documentation refers to the fbdev documentation for that parameter.

However, that documentation also says that instead of giving the mode using
its resolution we can also give a name. However, DRM doesn't handle that
case at the moment. Even though in most case it shouldn't make any
difference, it might be useful for analog modes, where different standards
might have the same resolution, but still have a few different parameters
that are not encoded in the modes (NTSC vs NTSC-J vs PAL-M for example).

0cbd0adc44 drm: Fix timestamp docs for variable refresh properties.
As discussed with Nicholas and Daniel Vetter (patchwork
link to discussion below), the VRR timestamping behaviour
produced utterly useless and bogus vblank/pageflip
timestamps. We have found a way to fix this and provide
sane behaviour.

As of Linux 5.2, the amdgpu driver will be able to
provide exactly the same vblank / pageflip timestamp
semantic in variable refresh rate mode as in standard
fixed refresh rate mode. This is achieved by deferring
core vblank handling (drm_crtc_handle_vblank()) until
the end of front porch, and also defer the sending of
pageflip completion events until end of front porch,
when we can safely compute correct pageflip/vblank
timestamps.

The same approach will be possible for other VRR
capable kms drivers, so we can actually have sane
and useful timestamps in VRR mode.

This patch removes the section of the docs that
describes the broken timestamp behaviour present
in Linux 5.0/5.1.

2de3a07849 drm/dp: Set the connector's TILE property even for DP SST connectors
Current driver sets the tile property only for DP MST connectors.
However there are some tiled displays where each SST connector
carries a single tile. So we need to attach this property object
for every connector and set it for every connector (DP SST and MST).
Plus since the tile information is obtained as a result of EDID
parsing, the best place to update tile property is where we update
edid property.
Also now we dont need to explicitly set this now for MST connectors.

This has been tested with xrandr --props and modetest and verified
that TILE property is exposed correctly.

d2c6a40584 drm: Add HDMI colorspace property
Create a new connector property to program colorspace to sink
devices. Modern sink devices support more than 1 type of
colorspace like 601, 709, BT2020 etc. This helps to switch
based on content type which is to be displayed. The decision
lies with compositors as to in which scenarios, a particular
colorspace will be picked.

This will be helpful mostly to switch to higher gamut colorspaces
like BT2020 when the media content is encoded as BT2020. Thereby
giving a good visual experience to users.

The expectation from userspace is that it should parse the EDID
and get supported colorspaces. Use this property and switch to the
one supported. Sink supported colorspaces should be retrieved by
userspace from EDID and driver will not explicitly expose them.

Basically the expectation from userspace is:
 - Set up CRTC DEGAMMA/CTM/GAMMA to convert to some sink
   colorspace
 - Set this new property to let the sink know what it
   converted the CRTC output to.

v2: Addressed Maarten and Ville's review comments. Enhanced
the colorspace enum to incorporate both HDMI and DP supported
colorspaces. Also, added a default option for colorspace.

v3: Removed Adobe references from enum definitions as per
Ville, Hans Verkuil and Jonas Karlman suggestions. Changed
Default to an unset state where driver will assign the colorspace
is not chosen by user, suggested by Ville and Maarten. Addressed
other misc review comments from Maarten. Split the changes to
have separate colorspace property for DP and HDMI.

v4: Addressed Chris and Ville's review comments, and created a
common colorspace property for DP and HDMI, filtered the list
based on the colorspaces supported by the respective protocol
standard.

v5: Made the property creation helper accept enum list based on
platform capabilties as suggested by Shashank. Consolidated HDMI
and DP property creation in the common helper.

v6: Addressed Shashank's review comments.

v7: Added defines instead of enum in uapi as per Brian Starkey's
suggestion in order to go with string matching at userspace. Updated
the commit message to add more details as well kernel docs.

v8: Addressed Maarten's review comments.

v9: Removed macro defines from uapi as per Brian Starkey and Daniel
Stone's comments and moved to drm include file. Moved back to older
design with exposing all HDMI colorspaces to userspace since infoframe
capability is there even on legacy platforms, as per Ville's review
comments.

v10: Fixed sparse warnings, updated the RB from Maarten and Jani's ack.

v11: Addressed Ville's review comments. Updated the Macro naming and
added DCI-P3 colorspace as well, defined in CTA 861.G spec.

v12: Appended BT709 and SMPTE 170M with YCC information as per Ville's
review comment to be clear and not to be confused with RGB.

v13: Reorder the colorspace macros.

v14: Removed DP as of now, will be added later once full support is

47e22ff1a9 drm: Add connector property to limit max bpc
At times 12bpc HDMI cannot be driven due to faulty cables, dongles
level shifters etc. To workaround them we may need to drive the output
at a lower bpc. Currently the user space does not have a way to limit
the bpc. The default bpc to be programmed is decided by the driver and
is run against connector limitations.

Creating a new connector property "max bpc" in order to limit the bpc.

not exceed the configured value. This property can be used by userspace to

de9f8eea5a drm/atomic_helper: Stop modesets on unregistered connectors harder
Unfortunately, it appears our fix in:
commit b5d29843d8 ("drm/atomic_helper: Allow DPMS On<->Off changes
for unregistered connectors")

Which attempted to work around the problems introduced by:
commit 4d80273976 ("drm/atomic_helper: Disallow new modesets on
unregistered connectors")

Is still not the right solution, as modesets can still be triggered
outside of drm_atomic_set_crtc_for_connector().

So in order to fix this, while still being careful that we don't break
modesets that a driver may perform before being registered with
userspace, we replace connector->registered with a tristate member,
connector->registration_state. This allows us to keep track of whether
or not a connector is still initializing and hasn't been exposed to
userspace, is currently registered and exposed to userspace, or has been
legitimately removed from the system after having once been present.

Using this info, we can prevent userspace from performing new modesets
on unregistered connectors while still allowing the driver to perform
modesets on unregistered connectors before the driver has finished being
registered.

Changes since v1:
- Fix WARN_ON() in drm_connector_cleanup() that CI caught with this
  patchset in igt@drv_module_reload@basic-reload-inject and
igt@drv_module_reload@basic-reload by checking if the connector is
registered instead of unregistered, as calling drm_connector_cleanup()
on a connector that hasn't been registered with userspace yet should
  stay valid.
- Remove unregistered_connector_check(), and just go back to what we
were doing before in commit 4d80273976 ("drm/atomic_helper: Disallow
new modesets on unregistered connectors") except replacing
  READ_ONCE(connector->registered) with drm_connector_is_unregistered().
This gets rid of the behavior of allowing DPMS On<->Off, but that should
be fine as it's more consistent with the UAPI we had before - danvet
- s/drm_connector_unregistered/drm_connector_is_unregistered/ - danvet

v2: Across all the kms ioctls we had a mixture of reporting EINVAL,

v3: ENOTSUPP is an internal errno! It's value (524) does not correspond
to a POSIX errno, the one we want is ENOTSUP. However,
uapi/asm-generic/errno.h doesn't include ENOTSUP but man errno says

"ENOTSUP and EOPNOTSUPP have the same value on Linux,

97e14fbeb5 drm: drop _mode_ from remaining connector functions
Since there's very few callers of these I've decided to do them all in
one patch. With this the unecessarily long drm_mode_connector_ prefix
is gone from the codebase! The only exception being struct
drm_mode_connector_set_property, which is part of the uapi so can't be
renamed.

Again done with sed+some manual fixups for indent issues.

935774cd71 drm: Add writeback connector type
Writeback connectors represent writeback engines which can write the
CRTC output to a memory framebuffer. Add a writeback connector type and
related support functions.

Drivers should initialize a writeback connector with
drm_writeback_connector_init() which takes care of setting up all the
writeback-specific details on top of the normal functionality of
drm_connector_init().

Writeback connectors have a WRITEBACK_FB_ID property, used to set the
output framebuffer, and a WRITEBACK_PIXEL_FORMATS blob used to expose the
supported writeback formats to userspace.

When a framebuffer is attached to a writeback connector with the
WRITEBACK_FB_ID property, it is used only once (for the commit in which
it was included), and userspace can never read back the value of
WRITEBACK_FB_ID. WRITEBACK_FB_ID can only be set if the connector is
attached to a CRTC.

Changes since v1:
 - Added drm_writeback.c + documentation
 - Added helper to initialize writeback connector in one go
 - Added core checks
 - Squashed into a single commit
 - Dropped the client cap
 - Writeback framebuffers are no longer persistent

Changes since v2:
 Daniel Vetter:
 - Subclass drm_connector to drm_writeback_connector
 - Relax check to allow CRTC to be set without an FB
 - Add some writeback_ prefixes
 - Drop PIXEL_FORMATS_SIZE property, as it was unnecessary
 Gustavo Padovan:
 - Add drm_writeback_job to handle writeback signalling centrally

Changes since v3:
 - Rebased
 - Rename PIXEL_FORMATS -> WRITEBACK_PIXEL_FORMATS

Chances since v4:
 - Embed a drm_encoder inside the drm_writeback_connector to
reduce the amount of boilerplate code required from the drivers
   that are using it.

Changes since v5:
 - Added Rob Clark's atomic_commit() vfunc to connector helper
funcs, so that writeback jobs are committed from atomic helpers
 - Updated create_writeback_properties() signature to return an
error code rather than a boolean false for failure.
 - Free writeback job with the connector state rather than when
   doing the cleanup_work()

Changes since v7:
 - fix extraneous use of out_fence that is only introduced in a
   subsequent patch.

Changes since v8:
 - whitespace changes pull from subsequent patch

Changes since v9:
 - Revert the v6 changes that free the writeback job in the connector
state cleanup and return to doing it in the cleanup_work() function

50525c332b drm: content-type property for HDMI connector
Added content_type property to drm_connector_state
in order to properly handle external HDMI TV content-type setting.

v2:
 * Moved helper function which attaches content type property
to the drm core, as was suggested.
   Removed redundant connector state initialization.

v3:
 * Removed caps in drm_content_type_enum_list.
After some discussion it turned out that HDMI Spec 1.4
was wrongly assuming that IT Content(itc) bit doesn't affect
Content type states, however itc bit needs to be manupulated
as well. In order to not expose additional property for itc,
for sake of simplicity it was decided to bind those together
   in same "content type" property.

v4:
 * Added it_content checking in intel_digital_connector_atomic_check.
Fixed documentation for new content type enum.

v5:
 * Moved patch revision's description to commit messages.

v6:
 * Minor naming fix for the content type enumeration string.

v7:
 * Fix parameter name for documentation and parameter alignment
in order not to get warning. Added Content Type description to
   new HDMI connector properties section.

v8:
 * Thrown away unneeded numbers from HDMI content-type property
description. Switch to strings desription instead of plain
   definitions.

v9:
 * Moved away hdmi specific content-type enum from
drm_connector_state. Content type property should probably not
be bound to any specific connector interface in
   drm_connector_state.
Same probably should be done to hdmi_picture_aspect_ration enum
which is also contained in drm_connector_state. Added special
helper function to get derive hdmi specific relevant infoframe
   fields.

v10:
 * Added usage description to HDMI properties kernel doc.

v11:
 * Created centralized function for filling HDMI AVI infoframe, based
   on correspondent DRM property value.

c3ff0cdb35 drm: Expose modes with aspect ratio, only if requested
We parse the EDID and add all the modes in the connector's modelist.
This adds CEA modes with aspect ratio information too, regardless of
whether user space requested this information or not.

This patch:
-prunes the modes with aspect-ratio information, from the
drm_mode_get_connector modelist supplied to the user, if the
user-space has not set the aspect ratio DRM client cap. However if
such a mode is unique in the list, it is kept in the list, with
 aspect-ratio flags reset.
-prepares a list of exposed modes, which is used to find unique modes
 if aspect-ratio is not allowed.
-adds a new list_head 'exposed_head' in drm_mode_display, to traverse
 the list of exposed modes.

V3: As suggested by Ville, modified the mechanism of pruning of modes

of straight away pruning such a mode, the mode is retained with
aspect ratio bits set to zero, provided it is unique.

V5: Addressed review comments from Ville:
-used a pointer to store last valid mode.
-avoided, modifying of picture_aspect_ratio in kernel mode,
instead only flags bits of user mode are reset (if aspect-ratio
