Revert "drm: Switch DRM_DISPLAY_DP_HELPER to depends on"
This reverts commit 0323287de8, as helper
code should always be selected by the driver that needs it, for the
convenience of the final user configuring a kernel.

The user who configures a kernel should not need to know which helpers
are needed for the driver he is interested in. Making a driver depend
on helper code means that the user needs to know which helpers to enable
first, which is very user-unfriendly.

813ca3aa8f drm/panic: Add debugfs entry to test without triggering panic.
Add a debugfs file, so you can test drm_panic without freezing
your machine. This is unsafe, and should be enabled only for
developer or tester.

To display the drm_panic screen on the device 0:
echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/drm_panic_plane_0

v9:
 * Create a debugfs file for each plane in the device's debugfs
   directory. This allows to test for each plane of each GPU
   independently.

bf9fb17c66 drm/panic: Add a drm panic handler
This module displays a user friendly message when a kernel panic
occurs. It currently doesn't contain any debug information,
but that can be added later.

v2
 * Use get_scanout_buffer() instead of the drm client API.
  (Thomas Zimmermann)
 * Add the panic reason to the panic message (Nerdopolis)
 * Add an exclamation mark (Nerdopolis)

v3
 * Rework the drawing functions, to write the pixels line by line and
 to use the drm conversion helper to support other formats.
 (Thomas Zimmermann)

v4
 * Use drm_fb_r1_to_32bit for fonts (Thomas Zimmermann)
 * Remove the default y to DRM_PANIC config option (Thomas Zimmermann)
 * Add foreground/background color config option
 * Fix the bottom lines not painted if the framebuffer height
   is not a multiple of the font height.
 * Automatically register the device to drm_panic, if the function
   get_scanout_buffer exists. (Thomas Zimmermann)

v5
 * Change the drawing API, use drm_fb_blit_from_r1() to draw the font.
 * Also add drm_fb_fill() to fill area with background color.
 * Add draw_pixel_xy() API for drivers that can't provide a linear buffer.
 * Add a flush() callback for drivers that needs to synchronize the buffer.
 * Add a void *private field, so drivers can pass private data to
   draw_pixel_xy() and flush().

v6
 * Fix sparse warning for panic_msg and logo.

v7
 * Add select DRM_KMS_HELPER for the color conversion functions.

v8
 * Register directly each plane to the panic notifier (Sima)
 * Add raw_spinlock to properly handle concurrency (Sima)
 * Register plane instead of device, to avoid looping through plane
   list, and simplify code.
 * Replace get_scanout_buffer() logic with drm_panic_set_buffer()
  (Thomas Zimmermann)
 * Removed the draw_pixel_xy() API, will see later if it can be added back.

v9
 * Revert to using get_scanout_buffer() (Sima)
 * Move get_scanout_buffer() and panic_flush() to the plane helper
   functions (Thomas Zimmermann)
 * Register all planes with get_scanout_buffer() to the panic notifier
 * Use drm_panic_lock() to protect against race (Sima)

v10
 * Move blit and fill functions back in drm_panic (Thomas Zimmermann).
 * Simplify the text drawing functions.
 * Use kmsg_dumper instead of panic_notifier (Sima).

v12
 * Use array for map and pitch in struct drm_scanout_buffer
   to support multi-planar format later. (Thomas Zimmermann)
 * Better indent struct drm_scanout_buffer declaration. (Thomas Zimmermann)

4b2d588d8a drm: DRM_WERROR should depend on DRM

drm: Switch DRM_DISPLAY_DP_HELPER to depends on
Most of our helpers have relied on being selected so far through
Kconfig, but that creates issues when we have multiple layers of helpers
with some depending on others.

Indeed, select doesn't select a dependency's dependencies, and thus
isn't super intuitive. Depends on however doesn't have that limitation,
so we can just switch all the drivers that were selecting
DRM_DISPLAY_DP_HELPER to depend on it.

drm/tests: Build KMS helpers when DRM_KUNIT_TEST_HELPERS is enabled
Commit 66671944e1 ("drm/tests: helpers: Add atomic helpers")
introduced a dependency on CRTC helpers in KUnit test helpers.
Select the former when building KUnit test helpers to avoid
linker errors.

3a63826c72 drm/mm: Allow CONFIG_DRM_MM_DEBUG with DRM=m
The original rationale for
commit cd456f8d06 ("drm: Restrict stackdepot usage to builtin drm.ko")
was that depot_save_stack() (which is what we used back then)

exported however, so relax the dependency allow CONFIG_DRM_MM_DEBUG

dd08ebf6c3 drm/xe: Introduce a new DRM driver for Intel GPUs
Xe, is a new driver for Intel GPUs that supports both integrated and
discrete platforms starting with Tiger Lake (first Intel Xe Architecture).

The code is at a stage where it is already functional and has experimental
support for multiple platforms starting from Tiger Lake, with initial
support implemented in Mesa (for Iris and Anv, our OpenGL and Vulkan
drivers), as well as in NEO (for OpenCL and Level0).

The new Xe driver leverages a lot from i915.

As for display, the intent is to share the display code with the i915
driver so that there is maximum reuse there. But it is not added
in this patch.

This initial work is a collaboration of many people and unfortunately
the big squashed patch won't fully honor the proper credits. But let's
get some git quick stats so we can at least try to preserve some of the
credits:

bb6c4507fe
drm: fix up fbdev Kconfig defaults
As a result of the recent Kconfig reworks, the default settings for the
framebuffer interfaces changed in unexpected ways:

Configurations that leave CONFIG_FB disabled but use DRM now get
DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION by default. This also turns on the deprecated /dev/fb
device nodes for machines that don't actually want it.

In turn, configurations that previously had DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION enabled
now only get the /dev/fb front-end but not the more useful framebuffer
console, which is not selected any more.

We had previously decided that any combination of the three frontends
(FB_DEVICE, FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE and LOGO) should be selectable, but the
new default settings mean that a lot of defconfig files would have to
get adapted.

Change the defaults back to what they were in Linux 6.5:

 - Leave DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION turned off unless CONFIG_FB
   is enabled. Previously this was a hard dependency but now the two are
   independent. However, configurations that enable CONFIG_FB probably
   also want to keep the emulation for DRM, while those without FB
   presumably did that intentionally in the past.

 - Leave FB_DEVICE turned off for FB=n. Following the same
   logic, the deprecated option should not automatically get enabled
   here, most users that had FB turned off in the past do not want it,
   even if they want the console

 - Turn the FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE option on if
   DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION is set to avoid having to change defconfig
   files that relied on it being selected unconditionally in the past.
   This also makes sense since both LOGO and FB_DEVICE are now disabled
   by default for builds without CONFIG_FB, but DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION
   would make no sense if all three are disabled.

drm: Drop select FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE for DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION
The commit c242f48433 ("drm: Make FB_CORE to be selected if DRM fbdev
emulation is enabled") changed DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION from 'depends on FB'
to an effective 'select FB_CORE', so any config that previously had DRM=y
and FB=n now has FB_CORE=y and FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE=y.

This leads to unmet direct dependencies detected for FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE
as reported by Arthur Grillo, e.g:

WARNING: unmet direct dependencies detected for FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE
  Depends on [n]: VT [=n] && FB_CORE [=y] && !UML [=y]
  Selected by [y]:
  - DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION [=y] && HAS_IOMEM [=y] && DRM [=y] && !EXPERT [=n]

Arnd Bergmann suggests to drop the select FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE for the
DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION Kconfig symbol, since a possible use case could
be to enable DRM fbdev emulation but without a framebuffer console.

09593216bf drm: execution context for GEM buffers v7
This adds the infrastructure for an execution context for GEM buffers
which is similar to the existing TTMs execbuf util and intended to replace
it in the long term.

The basic functionality is that we abstracts the necessary loop to lock
many different GEM buffers with automated deadlock and duplicate handling.

v2: drop xarray and use dynamic resized array instead, the locking
    overhead is unnecessary and measurable.
v3: drop duplicate tracking, radeon is really the only one needing that.
v4: fixes issues pointed out by Danilo, some typos in comments and a
    helper for lock arrays of GEM objects.
v5: some suggestions by Boris Brezillon, especially just use one retry

f39db26c54 drm: Add kms driver for loongson display controller
Loongson display controller IP has been integrated in both Loongson north
bridge chipset (ls7a1000/ls7a2000) and Loongson SoCs (ls2k1000/ls2k2000).
It has even been included in Loongson's BMC products. It has two display
pipes, and each display pipe supports a primary plane and a cursor plane.

For the DC in the LS7a1000, each display pipe has a DVO output interface,
which is able to support 1920x1080@60Hz. For the DC in the LS7A2000, each
display pipe is equipped with a built-in HDMI encoder, which is compliant
with the HDMI 1.4 specification. The first display pipe is also equipped
with a transparent VGA encoder, which is parallel with the HDMI encoder.
To get a decent performance for writing framebuffer data to the VRAM, the
write combine support should be enabled.

v1 -> v2:
 1) Use hpd status reg when polling for ls7a2000.
 2) Fix all warnings that emerged when compiling with W=1.

v2 -> v3:
 1) Add COMPILE_TEST to Kconfig and make the driver off by default
 2) Alphabetical sorting headers (Thomas)
 3) Untangle register access functions as much as possible (Thomas)
 4) Switch to TTM-based memory manager (Thomas)
 5) Add the chip ID detection function which can be used to distinguish
    chip models
 6) Revise the built-in HDMI phy driver, nearly all main stream mode below
    4K@30Hz is tested, and this driver supports clone(mirror) display mode
    and extend(joint) display mode.

v3 -> v4:
 1) Quickly fix a small mistake.

v4 -> v5:
 1) Add per display pipe debugfs support to the builtin HDMI encoder.

v5 -> v6:
 1) Remove stray code which didn't get used, say lsdc_of_get_reserved_ram
 2) Fix all typos I could found, make sentences and code more readable
 3) Untangle lsdc_hdmi*_connector_detect() function according to the pipe
 4) Rename this driver as loongson.

v6 -> v7:
1) Add prime support for buffer self-sharing, sharing buffer with
   drm/etnaviv is also tested and it works with limitations.
2) Implement buffer object tracking with list_head.
3) Add S3(sleep to RAM) support
4) Rewrite lsdc_bo_move since TTM core stop allocating resources
    during BO creation. Patch V1 ~ V6 of this series no longer work.
    Thus, we send V7.

v7 -> v8:
 1) Zero a compile warning on a 32-bit platform, compile with W=1
 2) Revise lsdc_bo_gpu_offset() and make minor cleanups.
 3) Pageflip tested on the virtual terminal with the following commands:

    modetest -M loongson -s 32:1920x1080 -v
    modetest -M loongson -s 34:1920x1080 -v -F tiles

   It works like a charm, when running the pageflip test with dual screens
   configuration, another two additional BOs were created by the modetest,
   VRAM usage up to 40+ MB, well we have at least 64MB, still enough.

   # cat bos

       bo[0000]: size:     8112kB VRAM
       bo[0001]: size:       16kB VRAM
       bo[0002]: size:       16kB VRAM
       bo[0003]: size:    16208kB VRAM
       bo[0004]: size:     8112kB VRAM
       bo[0005]: size:     8112kB VRAM

v8 -> v9:
 1) Select I2C and I2C_ALGOBIT in Kconfig, should depend on MMU.
 2) Using pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot to get the GPU device.

v9 -> v10:
 1) Revise lsdc_drm_freeze() to implement S3 correctly. We realized that
    the pinned BO could not be moved, the VRAM lost power when sleeping
    to RAM. Thus, the data in the buffer who is pinned in VRAM will get
    lost when resumed. Yet it's not a big problem because this driver
    relies on the CPU to update the front framebuffer. We can see the
    garbage data when resume from S3, but the screen will show the right
    image as I move the cursor. This is due to the CPU repaint. v10 of
    this patch makes S3 perfect by unpin all of the BOs in VRAM, evict
    them all to system RAM in lsdc_drm_freeze().

v10 -> v11:
 1) On a double-screen case, The buffer object backing the single giant
    framebuffer is referenced by two GEM objects; hence, it will be
    pinned at least twice by prepare_fb() function. This causes its pin
    count > 1. V10 of this patch only unpins VRAM BOs once when suspend,
    which is not correct on double-screen case. V11 of this patch unpin
    the BOs until its pin count reaches zero when suspend. Then, we make
    the S3 support complete finally. With v11, I can't see any garbage
    data when resume.

 2) Fix vblank wait timeout when disable CRTC.
 3) Test against IGT, at least fbdev test and kms_flip test passed.
 4) Rewrite pixel PLL update function, magic numbers eliminated (Emil)
 5) Drop a few common hardware features description in lsdc_desc (Emil)
 6) Drop lsdc_mode_config_mode_valid(), instead add restrictions in dumb
    create function. (Emil)
 7) Untangle the ls7a1000 case and ls7a2000 case completely (Thomas)

v11 -> v12:
 none

v12 -> v13:
 1) Add benchmarks to figure out the bandwidth of the hardware platform.
    Usage:
    # cd /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/
    # cat benchmark

 2) VRAM is filled with garbage data if uninitialized, add a buffer
    clearing procedure (lsdc_bo_clear), clear the BO on creation time.
 3) Update copyrights and adjust coding style (Huacai)

v13 -> v14:
 1) Trying to add async update support for cursor plane.

v14 -> v15:
 1) Add lsdc_vga_set_decode() funciton, which allow us remove multi-video
    cards workaround, now it allow drm/loongson, drm/amdgpu, drm/etnaviv
    co-exist in the system, more is also possible (Emil and Xuerui)
 2) Fix typos and grammar mistakes as much as possible (Xuerui)
 3) Unify copyrights as GPL-2.0+ (Xuerui)
 4) Fix a bug introduce since V13, TTM may import BO from other drivers,
    we shouldn't clear it on such a case.

849ee8a2f0 drm/suballoc: Extract amdgpu_sa.c as generic suballocation helper
Suballocating a buffer object is something that is not driver-specific
and useful for many drivers.

Use a slightly modified version of amdgpu_sa.c

v2:
- Style cleanups.
- Added / Modified documentation.
- Use u64 for the sizes and offset. The code dates back to 2012 and
  using unsigned int will probably soon come back to bite us.
  We can consider size_t as well for better 32-bit efficiency.
- Add and document gfp, intr and align arguments to drm_suballoc_new().
- Use drm_printer for debug output.

v3:
- Remove stale author info (Christian König)

v4:
- Avoid 64-bit integer divisions (kernel test robot <lkp@intel.com>)
- Use size_t rather than u64 for the managed range. (Thomas)

93604a5ade fbdev: Handle video= parameter in video/cmdline.c
Handle the command-line parameter video= in video/cmdline.c. Implement
the fbdev helper fb_get_options() on top. Will allows to handle the
kernel parameter in DRM without fbdev dependencies.

Note that __video_get_options() has the meaning of its return value
inverted compared to fb_get_options(). The new helper returns true if
the adapter has been enabled, and false otherwise.

There is the ofonly parameter, which disables output for non-OF-based
framebuffers. It is only for offb and looks like a workaround. The actual
purpose it not clear to me. Use 'video=off' or 'nomodeset' instead.

bb2ff6c27b drm: Disable dynamic debug as broken
CONFIG_DRM_USE_DYNAMIC_DEBUG breaks debug prints for (at least modular)
drm drivers. The debug prints can be reinstated by manually frobbing
/sys/module/drm/parameters/debug after the fact, but at that point the
damage is done and all debugs from driver probe are lost. This makes
drivers totally undebuggable.

There's a more complete fix in progress [1], with further details, but
we need this fixed in stable kernels. Mark the feature as broken and
disable it by default, with hopes distros follow suit and disable it as
well.

  requirements from memory allocated in the KFD with how we manage GPUVM PTEs. They
  are currently blocked in the GEM_CREATE IOCTL as we don't have a user right now.
  They are just used internally in the kernel driver for now for existing KFD memory
  allocations. So a change to the UAPI header, but no functional change in the UAPI.

9a758d8756 drm: Move nomodeset kernel parameter to drivers/video
Move the nomodeset kernel parameter to drivers/video to make it
available to non-DRM drivers. Adapt the interface, but keep the DRM
interface drm_firmware_drivers_only() to avoid churn within DRM. The
function should later be inlined into callers.

The parameter disables any DRM graphics driver that would replace a
driver for firmware-provided scanout buffers. It is an option to easily
fallback to basic graphics output if the hardware's native driver is
broken. Moving it to a more prominent location wil make it available
to fbdev as well.

20ea34710f drm/radeon: Add HD-audio component notifier support (v6)
This patch adds the support for the notification of HD-audio hotplug
via the already existing drm_audio_component framework to radeon
driver. This allows us more reliable hotplug notification and ELD
transfer without accessing HD-audio bus; it's more efficient, and more
importantly, it works without waking up the runtime PM.

The implementation is rather simplistic: radeon driver provides the
get_eld ops for HD-audio, and it notifies the audio hotplug via
pin_eld_notify callback upon each radeon_audio_enable() call.
The pin->id is referred as the port number passed to the notifier
callback, and the corresponding connector is looked through the
encoder list in the get_eld callback in turn.

The bind and unbind callbacks handle the device-link so that it
assures the PM call order.

Also, as a gratis bonus, this patch "fixes" the regression by the
recent change in HD-audio to be more strict for the HDMI/DP
connection, too. Since the HD-audio HDMI/DP codec requires both the
connection bit and the valid ELD to be provided, it started failing on
some RADEON gfx boards where the ELD update performed instably. As
this change switches the communication to a direct way between the
audio and the graphics drivers, now the system receives the proper
ELD, and the HDMI/DP hotplug starts working again.

[ v2: fix the logic in radeon_audio_component_get_eld to walk the
  connector list since that is where the EDID lives and we can
  derive the encoder from the connector because the encoder has
  not been assigned at this point (i.e., during monitor probe).

  v3: the component binding is moved outside radeon_audio_init() and
  _fini(), as those are called from suspend/resume, too.
  Drop modeset lock calls that caused Oops.
  Moved Kconfig change so that it can be applied on older kernels.

  v4: revive drm_modeset_lock*() again, add the missing
  device_link_remove() call at unbinding

  v5: squash in mutex fix

  v6: squash in fix for audio get_eld callback ]

84ec67288c drm_print: wrap drm_*_dbg in dyndbg descriptor factory macro
For CONFIG_DRM_USE_DYNAMIC_DEBUG=y, wrap __drm_dbg() & __drm_dev_dbg()
in one of dyndbg's Factory macros: _dynamic_func_call_no_desc().

This adds the callsite descriptor into the code, and an entry for each
into /proc/dynamic_debug/control.

  #> echo class DRM_UT_ATOMIC +p > /proc/dynamic_debug/control

CONFIG_DRM_USE_DYNAMIC_DEBUG=y/n is configurable because of the .data
footprint cost of per-callsite control; 56 bytes/site * ~2k for i915,
~4k callsites for amdgpu. This is large enough that a kernel builder
might not want it.

1eb6778111 drm/radeon: Don't register backlight when another backlight should be used (v3)
Before this commit when we want userspace to use the acpi_video backlight
device we register both the GPU's native backlight device and acpi_video's

firmware type backlight devices over native ones.

Registering 2 backlight devices for a single display really is
undesirable, don't register the GPU's native backlight device when
another backlight device should be used.

Changes in v2:
- To avoid linker errors when amdgpu is builtin and video_detect.c is in
  a module, select ACPI_VIDEO and its deps if ACPI is enabled.
  When ACPI is disabled, ACPI_VIDEO is also always disabled, ensuring
  the stubs from acpi/video.h will be used.

Changes in v3:

- ACPI_VIDEO can now be enabled on non X86 too,
  adjust the Kconfig changes to match this.

4a83c26a1d drm/gem: rename GEM CMA helpers to GEM DMA helpers
Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the
hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM

Besides that, commit e57924d4ae ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers")
requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be
confused about the naming.

In order to do this renaming the following script was used:

Only a few more manual modifications were needed, e.g. reverting the
following modifications in some DRM Kconfig files

    -       select CMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS
    +       select DMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS

as well as manually picking the occurrences of 'CMA'/'cma' in comments and
documentation which relate to "GEM CMA", but not "FB CMA".

Also drivers/gpu/drm/Makefile was fixed up manually after renaming
drm_gem_cma_helper.c to drm_gem_dma_helper.c.

This patch is compile-time tested building a x86_64 kernel with
`make allyesconfig && make drivers/gpu/drm`.

efeeaefe9b drm: Add support for the LogiCVC display controller
Introduces a driver for the LogiCVC display controller, a programmable
logic controller optimized for use in Xilinx Zynq-7000 SoCs and other
Xilinx FPGAs. The controller is mostly configured at logic synthesis
time so only a subset of configuration is left for the driver to
handle.

The following features are implemented and tested:
- LVDS 4-bit interface;
- RGB565 pixel formats;
- Multiple layers and hardware composition;
- Layer-wide alpha mode;

The following features are implemented but untested:
- Other RGB pixel formats;
- Layer framebuffer configuration for version 4;
- Lowest-layer used as background color;
- Per-pixel alpha mode.

The following features are not implemented:
- YUV pixel formats;
- DVI, LVDS 3-bit, ITU656 and camera link interfaces;
- External parallel input for layer;
- Color-keying;
- LUT-based alpha modes.

Additional implementation-specific notes:
- Panels are only enabled after the first page flip to avoid flashing a
  white screen.
- Depth used in context of the LogiCVC driver only counts color components
  to match the definition of the synthesis parameters.

Support is implemented for both version 3 and 4 of the controller.

With version 3, framebuffers are stored in a dedicated contiguous
memory area, with a base address hardcoded for each layer. This requires
using a dedicated CMA pool registered at the base address and tweaking a
few offset-related registers to try to use any buffer allocated from
the pool. This is done on a best-effort basis to have the hardware cope
with the DRM framebuffer allocation model and there is no guarantee
that each buffer allocated by GEM CMA can be used for any layer.
In particular, buffers allocated below the base address for a layer are
guaranteed not to be configurable for that layer. See the implementation of
logicvc_layer_buffer_find_setup for specifics.

Version 4 allows configuring each buffer address directly, which
guarantees that any buffer can be configured.

4fc8cb47fc drm/display: Move HDMI helpers into display-helper module
Move DRM's HMDI helpers into the display/ subdirectoy and add it
to DRM's display helpers. Update all affected drivers. No functional
changes.

The HDMI helpers were implemented in the EDID and connector code, but
are actually unrelated. With the move to the display-helper library, we
can remove the dependency on drm_edid.{c,h} in some driver's HDMI source
files.

Several of the HDMI helpers remain in EDID code because both share parts
of their implementation internally. With better refractoring of the EDID

as well.

adb9d5a2cc drm/dp: Move DisplayPort helpers into separate helper module
Move DisplayPort functions into a separate module to reduce the size
of the KMS helpers. Select DRM_DP_HELPER for all users of the code. To
avoid naming conflicts, rename drm_dp_helper.c to drm_dp.c

This change can help to reduce the size of the kernel binary. Some
numbers from a x86-64 test build:

Before:
	drm_kms_helper.ko:	447480 bytes

After:
	drm_dp_helper.ko:	216632 bytes
	drm_kms_helper.ko:	239424 bytes

For early-boot graphics, generic DRM drivers, such as simpledrm,
require DRM KMS helpers to be built into the kernel. Generic helper
functions for DisplayPort take up a significant portion of DRM KMS
helper library. These functions are not used by generic drivers and
can be loaded as a module.

a1a9868930 drm: Add privacy-screen class (v4)
On some new laptops the LCD panel has a builtin electronic privacy-screen.
We want to export this functionality as a property on the drm connector
object. But often this functionality is not exposed on the GPU but on some
other (ACPI) device.

This commit adds a privacy-screen class allowing the driver for these
other devices to register themselves as a privacy-screen provider; and
allowing the drm/kms code to get a privacy-screen provider associated
with a specific GPU/connector combo.

Changes in v2:
- Make CONFIG_DRM_PRIVACY_SCREEN a bool which controls if the drm_privacy
  code gets built as part of the main drm module rather then making it
  a tristate which builds its own module.
- Add a #if IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_DRM_PRIVACY_SCREEN) check to
  drm_privacy_screen_consumer.h and define stubs when the check fails.
  Together these 2 changes fix several dependency issues.
- Remove module related code now that this is part of the main drm.ko
- Use drm_class as class for the privacy-screen devices instead of
  adding a separate class for this

Changes in v3:
- Make the static inline drm_privacy_screen_get_state() stub set sw_state
  and hw_state to PRIVACY_SCREEN_DISABLED to squelch an uninitialized
  variable warning when CONFIG_DRM_PRIVICAY_SCREEN is not set

cd06ab2fd4 drm/locking: add backtrace for locking contended locks without backoff
If drm_modeset_lock() returns -EDEADLK, the caller is supposed to drop

For example, the patch [1] inadvertently dropped the return value check

With CONFIG_FB=m and CONFIG_DRM=y, we get a link error in the fb helper:

Tighten the dependency so it is only allowed in the case that DRM can

45d9c8dde4 drm/vgem: use shmem helpers
Aside from deleting lots of code the real motivation here is to switch
the mmap over to VM_PFNMAP, to be more consistent with what real gpu
drivers do. They're all VM_PFNMAP, which means get_user_pages doesn't
work, and even if you try and there's a struct page behind that,
touching it and mucking around with its refcount can upset drivers
real bad.

v2: Review from Thomas:
- sort #include
- drop more dead code that I didn't spot somehow

v3: select DRM_GEM_SHMEM_HELPER to make it build (intel-gfx-ci)

v4: I got tricked by 0cf2ef46c6 ("drm/shmem-helper: Use cached
mappings by default"), and we need WC in vgem because vgem doesn't
have explicit begin/end cpu access ioctls.

Also add a comment why exactly vgem has to use wc.

v5: Don't set obj->base.funcs, it will default to drm_gem_shmem_funcs
(Thomas)

v6: vgem also needs an MMU for remapping

v7: I absolutely butchered the rebases over the vgem mmap change and
revert and broke the patch. Actually go back to v6 from before the
vgem mmap changes.

8b93d1d7db drm/shmem-helper: Switch to vmf_insert_pfn
We want to stop gup, which isn't the case if we use vmf_insert_page
and VM_MIXEDMAP, because that does not set pte_special.

The motivation here is to stop get_user_pages from working on buffer
object mmaps in general. Quoting some discussion with Thomas:

get_user_pages. It pins memory wherever it is, which badly wreaks at least
ttm and could also cause trouble with cma allocations. In both cases
becaue we can't move/reuse these pages anymore.

Now get_user_pages fails when the memory isn't considered "normal", like
with VM_PFNMAP and using vm_insert_pfn. For consistency across all dma-buf
I'm trying (together with Christian König) to roll this out everywhere,
for fewer surprises.

E.g. for 5.14 iirc we merged a patch to do the same for ttm, where it
closes an actual bug (ttm gets really badly confused when there's suddenly
pinned pages where it thought it can move them).

cma allcoations already use VM_PFNMAP (because that's what dma_mmap is
using underneath), as is anything that's using remap_pfn_range. Worst case
we have to revert this patch for shmem helpers if it breaks something, but
I hope that's not the case. On the ttm side we've also had some fallout
that we needed to paper over with clever tricks.
v2: With this shmem gem helpers now definitely need CONFIG_MMU (0day)

v3: add more depends on MMU. For usb drivers this is a bit awkward,
but really it's correct: To be able to provide a contig mapping of
buffers to userspace on !MMU platforms we'd need to use the cma
helpers for these drivers on those platforms. As-is this wont work.

Also not exactly sure why vm_insert_page doesn't go boom, because that
definitely wont fly in practice since the pages are non-contig to
begin with.

v4: Explain the entire motivation a lot more (Thomas)

aeb33699fc drm: Introduce the DP AUX bus
Historically "simple" eDP panels have been handled by panel-simple
which is a basic platform_device. In the device tree, the panel node
was at the top level and not connected to anything else.

Let's change it so that, instead, panels can be represented as being
children of the "DP AUX bus". Essentially we're saying that the
hierarchy that we're going to represent is the "control" connections
between devices. The DP AUX bus is a control bus provided by an eDP
controller (the parent) and consumed by a device like a panel (the
child).

The primary incentive here is to cleanly provide the panel driver the
ability to communicate over the AUX bus while handling lifetime issues
properly. The panel driver may want the AUX bus for controlling the
backlight or querying the panel's EDID.

The idea for this bus's design was hashed out over IRC [1].
