arch/*/io.h: remove ioremap_uc in some architectures
ioremap_uc() is only meaningful on old x86-32 systems with the PAT extension, and on ia64 with its slightly unconventional ioremap() behavior. So remove the ioremap_uc() definition in architecutures other than x86 and ia64. These architectures all have asm-generic/io.h included and will have the default ioremap_uc() definition which returns NULL. This changes the existing behaviour, while no need to worry about any breakage because in the only callsite of ioremap_uc(), code has been adjusted to eliminate the impact. Please see atyfb_setup_generic() of drivers/video/fbdev/aty/atyfb_base.c. If any new invocation of ioremap_uc() need be added, please consider using ioremap() intead or adding a ARCH specific version if necessary. sh: Remove stale microdev board
This board was an early prototype platform for early SH4 CPUs and related to the already removed SH5 cayman platform. The microdev board itself has been kept in the tree for this long despite being in a bad shape even 20 years ago when it got merged, with no working PCI support and ugly workarounds for its I/O port implementation that try to emulate PC style peripheral access despite being quite different in reality. As far as I can tell, the ethernet, display, USB and PCI devices on it already broke at some point ( |

CET consists of two related security features: shadow stacks and indirect branch tracking. This series implements just the shadow stack part of this feature, and just for userspace. The main use case for shadow stack is providing protection against return oriented programming attacks. It works by maintaining a secondary (shadow) stack using a special memory type that has protections against modification. When executing a CALL instruction, the processor pushes the return address to both the normal stack and to the special permission shadow stack. Upon RET, the processor pops the shadow stack copy and compares it to the normal stack copy. sh: mm: convert to GENERIC_IOREMAP
By taking GENERIC_IOREMAP method, the generic generic_ioremap_prot(), generic_iounmap(), and their generic wrapper ioremap_prot(), ioremap() and iounmap() are all visible and available to arch. Arch needs to provide wrapper functions to override the generic versions if there's arch specific handling in its ioremap_prot(), ioremap() or iounmap(). This change will simplify implementation by removing duplicated code with generic_ioremap_prot() and generic_iounmap(), and has the equivalent functioality as before. Here, add wrapper functions ioremap_prot() and iounmap() for SuperH's special operation when ioremap() and iounmap(). In <asm-generic/io.h>, it provides a generic implementation of all I/O accessors. For some port|mm io functions, SuperH has its own implementation in arch/sh/kernel/iomap.c and arch/sh/include/asm/io_noioport.h. mm: Rename arch pte_mkwrite()'s to pte_mkwrite_novma()
The x86 Shadow stack feature includes a new type of memory called shadow stack. This shadow stack memory has some unusual properties, which requires some core mm changes to function properly. One of these unusual properties is that shadow stack memory is writable, but only in limited ways. These limits are applied via a specific PTE bit combination. Nevertheless, the memory is writable, and core mm code will need to apply the writable permissions in the typical paths that call pte_mkwrite(). The goal is to make pte_mkwrite() take a VMA, so that the x86 implementation of it can know whether to create regular writable or shadow stack mappings. But there are a couple of challenges to this. Modifying the signatures of each arch pte_mkwrite() implementation would be error prone because some are generated with macros and would need to be re-implemented. Also, some pte_mkwrite() callers operate on kernel memory without a VMA. So this can be done in a three step process. First pte_mkwrite() can be renamed to pte_mkwrite_novma() in each arch, with a generic pte_mkwrite() added that just calls pte_mkwrite_novma(). Next callers without a VMA can be moved to pte_mkwrite_novma(). And lastly, pte_mkwrite() and all callers can be changed to take/pass a VMA. Start the process by renaming pte_mkwrite() to pte_mkwrite_novma() and adding the pte_mkwrite() wrapper in linux/pgtable.h. Apply the same pattern for pmd_mkwrite(). Since not all archs have a pmd_mkwrite_novma(), create a new arch config HAS_HUGE_PAGE that can be used to tell if pmd_mkwrite() should be defined. Otherwise in the !HAS_HUGE_PAGE cases the compiler would not be able to find pmd_mkwrite_novma(). No functional change. The unxlate_dev_mem_ptr() function has no prototype on the sh architecture which does not include asm-generic/io.h. This results in the following build failure: drivers/char/mem.c: In function 'read_mem': drivers/char/mem.c:164:25: error: implicit declaration of function 'unxlate_dev_mem_ptr' This compile error is now seen because commit |

Locking changes for v6.5:
- Introduce cmpxchg128() -- aka. the demise of cmpxchg_double(). The cmpxchg128() family of functions is basically & functionally the same as cmpxchg_double(), but with a saner interface: instead of a 6-parameter horror that forced u128 - u64/u64-halves layout details on the interface and exposed users to complexity, fragility & bugs, use a natural 3-parameter interface with u128 types. - Restructure the generated atomic headers, and add kerneldoc comments for all of the generic atomic{,64,_long}_t operations. Generated definitions are much cleaner now, and come with documentation. - Implement lock_set_cmp_fn() on lockdep, for defining an ordering when taking multiple locks of the same type. This gets rid of one use of lockdep_set_novalidate_class() in the bcache code. - Fix raw_cpu_generic_try_cmpxchg() bug due to an unintended variable shadowing generating garbage code on Clang on certain ARM builds. sh: Avoid using IRQ0 on SH3 and SH4
IRQ0 is no longer returned by platform_get_irq() and its ilk -- they now
return -EINVAL instead. However, the kernel code supporting SH3/4-based
SoCs still maps the IRQ #s starting at 0 -- modify that code to start the
IRQ #s from 16 instead.
The patch should mostly affect the AP-SH4A-3A/AP-SH4AD-0A boards as they
indeed are using IRQ0 for the SMSC911x compatible Ethernet chip.

thread_info: move function declarations to linux/thread_info.h
There are a few __weak functions in kernel/fork.c, which architectures can override. If there is no prototype, the compiler warns about them: kernel/fork.c:164:13: error: no previous prototype for 'arch_release_task_struct' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] kernel/fork.c:991:20: error: no previous prototype for 'arch_task_cache_init' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] kernel/fork.c:1086:12: error: no previous prototype for 'arch_dup_task_struct' [-Werror=missing-prototypes] There are already prototypes in a number of architecture specific headers that have addressed those warnings before, but it's much better to have these in a single place so the warning no longer shows up anywhere. The init/main.c file contains some extern declarations for functions defined in architecture code, and it defines some other functions that are called from architecture code with a custom prototype. locking/atomic: sh: add preprocessor symbols
Some atomics can be implemented in several different ways, e.g. FULL/ACQUIRE/RELEASE ordered atomics can be implemented in terms of RELAXED atomics, and ACQUIRE/RELEASE/RELAXED can be implemented in terms of FULL ordered atomics. Other atomics are optional, and don't exist in some configurations (e.g. not all architectures implement the 128-bit cmpxchg ops). Subsequent patches will require that architectures define a preprocessor symbol for any atomic (or ordering variant) which is optional. This will make the fallback ifdeffery more robust, and simplify future changes. Add the required definitions to arch/sh. gpiolib: remove empty asm/gpio.h files
The arm and sh versions of this file are identical to the generic versions and can just be removed. The drivers that actually use the sh3 specific version also include cpu/gpio.h directly, with the exception of magicpanelr2, which is easily fixed. This leaves coldfire as the only gpio driver that needs something custom for gpiolib. sh/mm: support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE
Let's support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE by using bit 6 in the PTE, reducing the swap type in the !CONFIG_X2TLB case to 5 bits. Generic MM currently only uses 5 bits for the type (MAX_SWAPFILES_SHIFT), so the stolen bit is effectively unused. Interrestingly, the swap type in the !CONFIG_X2TLB case could currently overlap with the _PAGE_PRESENT bit, because there is a sneaky shift by 1 in __pte_to_swp_entry() and __swp_entry_to_pte(). Bit 0-7 in the architecture specific swap PTE would get shifted to bit 1-8 in the PTE. As generic MM uses 5 bits only, this didn't matter so far. While at it, mask the type in __swp_entry(). stackprotector: actually use get_random_canary()
The RNG always mixes in the Linux version extremely early in boot. It also always includes a cycle counter, not only during early boot, but each and every time it is invoked prior to being fully initialized. Together, this means that the use of additional xors inside of the various stackprotector.h files is superfluous and over-complicated. Instead, we can get exactly the same thing, but better, by just calling `get_random_canary()`. mm: remove kern_addr_valid() completely
Most architectures (except arm64/x86/sparc) simply return 1 for kern_addr_valid(), which is only used in read_kcore(), and it calls copy_from_kernel_nofault() which could check whether the address is a valid kernel address. So as there is no need for kern_addr_valid(), let's remove it. Merge tag 'hardening-v6.1-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kees/linux
Pull kernel hardening updates from Kees Cook:
"Most of the collected changes here are fixes across the tree for
various hardening features (details noted below).
The most notable new feature here is the addition of the memcpy()
overflow warning (under CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE), which is the next step
on the path to killing the common class of "trivially detectable"
buffer overflow conditions (i.e. on arrays with sizes known at compile
time) that have resulted in many exploitable vulnerabilities over the
years (e.g. BleedingTooth).
This feature is expected to still have some undiscovered false
positives. It's been in -next for a full development cycle and all the
reported false positives have been fixed in their respective trees.
All the known-bad code patterns we could find with Coccinelle are also
either fixed in their respective trees or in flight.

perf/hw_breakpoint: Optimize constant number of breakpoint slots
Optimize internal hw_breakpoint state if the architecture's number of breakpoint slots is constant. This avoids several kmalloc() calls and potentially unnecessary failures if the allocations fail, as well as subtly improves code generation and cache locality. The protocol is that if an architecture defines hw_breakpoint_slots via the preprocessor, it must be constant and the same for all types. PCI: Move isa_dma_bridge_buggy out of asm/dma.h
The isa_dma_bridge_buggy symbol is only used for x86_32, and only x86_32 platforms or quirks ever set it. Add a new linux/isa-dma.h header that #defines isa_dma_bridge_buggy to 0 except on x86_32, where we keep it as a variable, and remove all the arch- specific definitions. PCI: Remove pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() and asm-generic/pci.h
pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() is only used on platforms that support PNP, so many architectures define it but never use it. Since pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() is no longer used, remove all the architecture-specific definitions of it as well as asm-generic/pci.h, which only provides pci_get_legacy_ide_irq() [bhelgaas: commit log] Co-developed-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220722214944.831438-2-shorne@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: Stafford Horne <shorne@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Bjorn Helgaas <bhelgaas@google.com> Reviewed-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Acked-by: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> Acked-by: Pierre Morel <pmorel@linux.ibm.com> Acked-by: Rafael J. sh/mm: enable ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT
This enables ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT on the platform and exports standard vm_get_page_prot() implementation via DECLARE_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT, which looks up a private and static protection_map[] array. Subsequently all __SXXX and __PXXX macros can be dropped which are no longer needed. bitops: unify non-atomic bitops prototypes across architectures
Currently, there is a mess with the prototypes of the non-atomic bitops across the different architectures: ret bool, int, unsigned long nr int, long, unsigned int, unsigned long addr volatile unsigned long *, volatile void * Thankfully, it doesn't provoke any bugs, but can sometimes make the compiler angry when it's not handy at all. Adjust all the prototypes to the following standard: ret bool retval can be only 0 or 1 nr unsigned long native; signed makes no sense addr volatile unsigned long * bitmaps are arrays of ulongs Next, some architectures don't define 'arch_' versions as they don't support instrumentation, others do. To make sure there is always the same set of callables present and to ease any potential future changes, make them all follow the rule: * architecture-specific files define only 'arch_' versions; * non-prefixed versions can be defined only in asm-generic files; and place the non-prefixed definitions into a new file in asm-generic to be included by non-instrumented architectures. Finally, add some static assertions in order to prevent people from making a mess in this room again. I also used the %__always_inline attribute consistently, so that they always get resolved to the actual operations. mm: change huge_ptep_clear_flush() to return the original pte
Patch series "Fix CONT-PTE/PMD size hugetlb issue when unmapping or migrating", v4. presently, migrating a hugetlb page or unmapping a poisoned hugetlb page, we'll use ptep_clear_flush() and set_pte_at() to nuke the page table entry and remap it, and this is incorrect for CONT-PTE or CONT-PMD size hugetlb page, which will cause potential data consistent issue. This patch set will change to use hugetlb related APIs to fix this issue. Note: Mike pointed out the huge_ptep_get() will only return the one specific value, and it would not take into account the dirty or young bits of CONT-PTE/PMDs like the huge_ptep_get_and_clear() [1]. This inconsistent issue is not introduced by this patch set, and this issue will be addressed in another thread [2]. Meanwhile the uffd for hugetlb case [3] pointed out by Gerald also needs another patch to address. asm-generic updates for 5.18
There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. This was already gone from all major architectures, but now we can finally remove it everywhere, which loses some particularly tricky and error-prone code. There is a small merge conflict against a parisc cleanup, the solution is to use their new version. - The nds32 architecture ends its tenure in the Linux kernel. The hardware is still used and the code is in reasonable shape, but the mainline port is not actively maintained any more, as all remaining users are thought to run vendor kernels that would never be updated to a future release. There are some obvious conflicts against changes to the removed files. - A series from Masahiro Yamada cleans up some of the uapi header files to pass the compile-time checks. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEo6/YBQwIrVS28WGKmmx57+YAGNkFAmI69BsACgkQmmx57+YA GNn/zA//f4d5VTT0ThhRxRWTu9BdThGHoB8TUcY7iOhbsWu0X/913NItRC3UeWNl IdmisaXgVtirg1dcC2pWUmrcHdoWOCEGfK4+Zr2NhSWfuZDWvODHK9pGWk4WLnhe cQgUNBvIuuAMryGtrOBwHPO4TpfCyy2ioeVP36ZfcsWXdDxTrqfaq/56mk3sxIP6 sUTk1UEjut9NG4C9xIIvcSU50R3l6LryQE/H9kyTLtaSvfvTOvprcVYCq0GPmSzo DtQ1Wwa9zbJ+4EqoMiP5RrgQwWvOTg2iRByLU8ytwlX3e/SEF0uihvMv1FQbL8zG G8RhGUOKQSEhaBfc3lIkm8GpOVPh0uHzB6zhn7daVmAWtazRD2Nu59BMjipa+ims a8Z58iHH7jRAnKeEkVZqXKb1CEiUxaQx/IeVPzN4QlwMhDtwrI76LY7ZJ1zCqTGY ENG0yRLav1XselYBslOYXGtOEWcY5EZPWqLyWbp4P9vz2g0Fe0gZxoIOvPmNQc89 QnfXpCt7vm/DGkyO255myu08GOLeMkisVqUIzLDB9avlym5mri7T7vk9abBa2YyO CRpTL5gl1/qKPWuH1UI5mvhT+sbbBE2SUHSuy84btns39ZKKKynwCtdu+hSQkKLE h9pV30Gf1cLTD4JAE0RWlUgOmbBLVp34loTOexQj4MrLM1noOnw= =vtCN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-5.18' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are three sets of updates for 5.18 in the asm-generic tree: - The set_fs()/get_fs() infrastructure gets removed for good. arch: Add pmd_pfn() where it is missing
We need to use this function in common code, so define it for architectures and/or configrations that miss it. The result of pmd_pfn() will only be used if TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE is enabled, but a function or macro called pmd_pfn() must be defined, even on machines with two level page tables. sh: remove CONFIG_SET_FS support
sh uses set_fs/get_fs only in one file, to handle address errors in both user and kernel memory. uaccess: generalize access_ok()
There are many different ways that access_ok() is defined across architectures, but in the end, they all just compare against the user_addr_max() value or they accept anything. Provide one definition that works for most architectures, checking against TASK_SIZE_MAX for user processes or skipping the check inside of uaccess_kernel() sections. For architectures without CONFIG_SET_FS(), this should be the fastest check, as it comes down to a single comparison of a pointer against a compile-time constant, while the architecture specific versions tend to do something more complex for historic reasons or get something wrong. Type checking for __user annotations is handled inconsistently across architectures, but this is easily simplified as well by using an inline function that takes a 'const void __user *' argument. A handful of callers need an extra __user annotation for this. Some architectures had trick to use 33-bit or 65-bit arithmetic on the addresses to calculate the overflow, however this simpler version uses fewer registers, which means it can produce better object code in the end despite needing a second (statically predicted) branch. treewide: Replace zero-length arrays with flexible-array members
There is a regular need in the kernel to provide a way to declare having a dynamically sized set of trailing elements in a structure. Kernel code should always use “flexible array members”[1] for these cases. The older style of one-element or zero-length arrays should no longer be used[2]. This code was transformed with the help of Coccinelle: (next-20220214$ spatch --jobs $(getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN) --sp-file script.cocci --include-headers --dir . > output.patch) @@ identifier S, member, array; type T1, T2; @@ struct S { ... locking: Allow to include asm/spinlock_types.h from linux/spinlock_types_raw.h
The printk header file includes ratelimit_types.h for its __ratelimit() based usage. It is required for the static initializer used in printk_ratelimited(). It uses a raw_spinlock_t and includes the spinlock_types.h. PREEMPT_RT substitutes spinlock_t with a rtmutex based implementation and so its spinlock_t implmentation (provided by spinlock_rt.h) includes rtmutex.h and atomic.h which leads to recursive includes where defines are missing. By including only the raw_spinlock_t defines it avoids the atomic.h related includes at this stage. Add linux/cacheflush.h
Many architectures do not include asm-generic/cacheflush.h, so turn
the includes on their head and add linux/cacheflush.h which includes
asm/cacheflush.h.
Move the flush_dcache_folio() declaration from asm-generic/cacheflush.h
to linux/cacheflush.h and change linux/highmem.h to include
linux/cacheflush.h instead of asm/cacheflush.h so that all necessary
places will see flush_dcache_folio().
More functions should have their default implementations moved in the
future, but those are for follow-on patches. This fixes csky, sparc and
sparc64 which were missed in the commit which added flush_dcache_folio().

Tracing updates for 5.16:

mm: remove flush_kernel_dcache_page
flush_kernel_dcache_page is a rather confusing interface that implements a subset of flush_dcache_page by not being able to properly handle page cache mapped pages. The only callers left are in the exec code as all other previous callers were incorrect as they could have dealt with page cache pages. Replace the calls to flush_kernel_dcache_page with calls to flush_dcache_page, which for all architectures does either exactly the same thing, can contains one or more of the following: 1) an optimization to defer the cache flush for page cache pages not mapped into userspace 2) additional flushing for mapped page cache pages if cache aliases are possible Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20210712060928.4161649-7-hch@lst.de Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Acked-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Reviewed-by: Ira Weiny <ira.weiny@intel.com> Cc: Alex Shi <alexs@kernel.org> Cc: Geoff Levand <geoff@infradead.org> Cc: Greentime Hu <green.hu@gmail.com> Cc: Guo Ren <guoren@kernel.org> Cc: Helge Deller <deller@gmx.de> Cc: "James E.J. asm-generic/unaligned: Unify asm/unaligned.h around struct helper
The get_unaligned()/put_unaligned() helpers are traditionally architecture specific, with the two main variants being the "access-ok.h" version that assumes unaligned pointer accesses always work on a particular architecture, and the "le-struct.h" version that casts the data to a byte aligned type before dereferencing, for architectures that cannot always do unaligned accesses in hardware. Based on the discussion linked below, it appears that the access-ok version is not realiable on any architecture, but the struct version probably has no downsides. This series changes the code to use the same implementation on all architectures, addressing the few exceptions separately.
